Bob Burns, a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at 64. The drummer, who played on the band’s first two albums, was killed in a car crash. A Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman said Burns, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed when his car left the road , striking a mailbox and a tree. He was alone in the car, and no other cars were involved in the fatal Friday crash. Police are trying to establish if weather was a factor in the accident. Burns performed alongside singer Ronnie Van Zant, bassist Larry Junstrom and guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins in Skynyd from 1966-74. Named after their childhood P.E. teacher, Leonard Skinner, the band recorded such songs as “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Simple Man” and “Free Bird.” Burns left the band after becoming exhausted by touring, and Artimus Pyle subsequently replaced him as drummer for 1975’s Nuthin’ Fancy album. He was not aboard the plane that crashed in 1977, killing three of the band’s members, including Van Zant, and disbanding the band until a decade later. The surviving members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, at which point Burns rejoined the group for a one-off performance. “Well, today I’m at a loss for words, but I just remember Bob being a funny guy,” Rossington said in a message posted on the Lynyrd Skynyrd Facebook page. “He used to do skits for us and make us laugh all the time, he was hilarious!” “Ironically, since we played Jacksonville yesterday, Dale, my daughter and I, went by the cemetery to see some of the guys in the band and my parents’ grave sites.” “On the way back, we went by Bob Burns’ old house. It was there in the carport where we used to first start to practice with Skynyrd. My heart goes out to his family.” “God bless him and them in this sad time. A.J. Pero, the lead drummer for rock band Twisted Sister, was found dead on Friday in Poughkeepsie, New York. He was 55 years old. According to multiple outlets, Pero was found unresponsive on the group’s tour bus and pronounced dead soon afterward at a nearby hospital. It is believed he passed away from a heart attack. “The members of Twisted Sister are profoundly saddened to announce the untimely passing of our brother, AJ Pero,” the group announced on Facebook this afternoon. “The band, crew and most importantly the family of AJ Pero thank you for your thoughts and prayers at this time.” Pero joined Twisted Sister in 1982; departed the band in 1986; and returned in 1997. He played on all but one of the beloved hair metal band’s studio albums. Monday night on ABC, Dancing With the Stars Season 20 Episode 1 kicked off the show’s 10th anniversary (they do two seasons per year) in terrific fashion. The premiere encapsulated so many of the things that have made the show a hit for that long, from the music to the celebrity stories to, yes, the dancing. No perfect 10s or even 9s were awarded on night one, but a couple of stars already shone brightly, while some others clearly have their work cut out. Let’s check out the Dancing With the Stars Season 20 Episode 1 performances … Rumer Willis & Val Chmerkovskiy – Dancing With the Stars Season 20 Week 1 Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy: The daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, who were there with her sisters Tallulah and Scout, won the night. Her foxtrot drew glowing praise from the panel (and her famous family) and established her instantly as one of the stars to watch this coming season. Noah Galloway & Sharna Burgess – Cha Cha – Dancing With The Stars – Season 20 Week 1 Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess: The inspirational, heroic, amputee Army vet instantly became a fan favorite when his introductory video aired. He also became a challenge for partner Sharna from the standpoint of a choreographer, who told him he plus play on the fact that he is a titan among men. Will he become a titan of dance as he broadens the scope (as Carrie Ann Inaba put it) of what dancing looks like? Only time will tell, but not bad. Score: 26 . Daniel von Barge, a veteran actor of both the big screen and the small screen, passed away over the weekend after long battle with an unknown illness. He was 64 years old. The actor’s death was confirmed by Cincinnati TV station WLWT, though no further details are available at this time. “We are learning of this event at the same time as the rest of the industry and are deeply saddened to hear of Daniel’s loss. Although we represented Daniel to the Voice Over Industry for many years, for the past five years he had been grappling with health issues that precluded his active pursuit of work in this area,” Chas Cowing, co-owner of Access Talent, tells E!
