Remember that bag of human parts found in the BX Tuesday? Turns out that was the work of a mentally ill epitome of a bad son, who killed his mother leaving his disabled 7-year-old brother without his caretaker. Via NYDailyNews reports : A schizophrenic South Bronx man confessed Tuesday to dismembering his mom and scattering her body parts in garbage bags across the South Bronx, police sources said. Deranged suspect Bashid McLean, 23, implicated himself in the gruesome death after investigators recovered a saw inside the apartment where he lived with victim Tanya Byrd and his 7-year-old brother, Nasyr. Cops also found a shopping cart used to lug 52-year-old Byrd’s severed body parts from their home to four locations within walking distance of the murder scene, police sources said. Byrd was terrified by McLean, who was on probation after coming at two cops with a knife in 2010, and suspected that he was battering little Nasyr. The younger brother has Down syndrome, according to one neighbor. “I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Bashid killed her,” said a 43-year-old woman who lives in the building on Westchester Ave. in Melrose. “She was afraid of that boy. . .He was a hellion.” When bruises began appearing on the special-needs child, Byrd suspected her older son, the neighbor said. “Bashid had a problem controlling his rage,” said the neighbor. “He had creepy eyes. Didn’t like to look you in the eye — but when he did, they went right through you.” Although McLean called police to report his mom was missing, he quickly emerged as a suspect in the gruesome killing, police sources said. Cops were questioning him at the 40th Precinct stationhouse late Tuesday. McLean’s sister, Porsche Lovett, who visited him at the stationhouse, said he showed no remorse. “He looked me in the eyes and told me he did nothing wrong when he killed her,” she said. “I don’t know who he is.”Byrd’s body parts were stuffed in garbage bags and scattered throughout her neighborhood, with a dog walker spying her right leg protruding from a pile of garbage around 5 a.m., police said. Three heavy-duty plastic garbage bags stuffed with body parts were found nearby. The victim’s head, hands, torso, legs and shoulder were pulled from the trash bags, the sources said. The brutal killing left McLean’s family members reeling — despite Bashid’s history of aggression and mental health problems. “He did destructive things,” said his father, James McLean. “He set fires; nobody could control him. ” The dead woman’s sister said Bashid nursed a grudge against Byrd over his placement in foster care while his mom battled a drug problem. They reunited when he turned 18. “I want people to know my sister was a good mother,” said Cassandra McLean. “She always took care of him.” SMH. This is just awful. It just kind of falls off, I guess. It’s weird.” Zolciak added, “I don’t work out at all. And I eat very bad! I do think breastfeeding definitely helps. The good news for rapper Ja Rule today? He is officially out of an Upstate New York prison after serving most of his two-year sentence for gun possession. The bad news? He headed straight into federal custody in a tax case. U.S. Marshals escorted the 36-year-old out of Mid-State Correctional Facility this morning. He is now being held at the Oneida County Jail in central New York. The rapper, who had been in protective custody because of his celebrity, has some time left on a 28-month sentence for tax evasion that ran concurrently. Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, may have less than six months left and may be eligible for a halfway house, defense attorney Stacey Richman said. Back taxes are one of the main reasons he wants to get back to work, too. “People are looking forward to experiencing his talent again,” she said. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Mack said it is being determined where Ja Rule will serve the rest of his time, and how much of the $1.1 million he owes the IRS has been paid. Once out of custody, he also faces a year of supervised release. Ja Rule went to prison in Marcy, N.Y., in June 2011, and got out at his earliest possible release date, state correction spokeswoman Linda Foglia said. He was written up twice for unauthorized phone calls in 2012 but had work assignments on lawn and grounds crews and participated in education programs. In the gun case, New York City police said they found a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic gun in a rear door of Ja Rule’s $250,000 luxury car in 2010. In March 2011 he admitted in federal court that he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million he earned from 2004-2006 while he lived in Saddle River, N.J. “I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal,” he said. “I was a young man who made a lot of money … I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.” Richman said Ja Rule is looking forward to his daughter’s graduation.
Lady Gaga said she has undergone successful surgery to repair an injured hip that forced the pop singer last week to cancel the remainder of her tour . The star thanked fans in a blog post on her littlemonsters (dot) com fan website on Thursday, saying the surgical setback was “just a bump in the road.” The 26-year-old writes: “As they wheeled me into surgery, I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness, identity struggles.” “So I thought to myself, ‘I’m alive; I’m living my dream.'” “This is just a bump in the road.” A labral tear of her right hip was what sidelined Gaga, leaving her unable to walk . No timetable has been set for her to return, but she will require “strict downtime.” The injury, while specifically not something anyone predicted, wasn’t all that surprising to those familiar with Lady Gaga and how dedicated she is to her craft. She’s been on the road pretty much non-stop for two years, performing concerts on six continents, while doing albums, TV and other work in between. Be well, Mother Monster. Be well. By flaunting both the Kim Kardashian baby bump and her natural complexion for photographer Bruce Weber, posing in a bikini and going practically makeup-free in her first shoot since the December 30 announcement that she’s expecting. Inside the magazine, Kim says she’s learned a lot from Kanye West, specially when it comes to “privacy.” “I’m ready to be a little less open about some things, like my relationships,” she says. “I’m realizing everyone doesn’t need to know everything. I’m shifting my priorities.” We’ll try to ignore the irony of Kardashian saying this TO A MAGAZINE. News of troubled country singer Mindy McCready’s death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound took the celebrity news world by storm late Sunday. Criticism of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab spread almost as fast. Mindy is now the fifth celebrity cast member to die since appearing on the show, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, and the third from Season 3 alone. The Celebrity Rehab stars who died before McCready: Mike Starr, bassist for Alice in Chains Joey Kovar, a Real World participant Rodney King of L.A. riots fame Actor Jeff Conaway Starr and Kovar overdosed, King was found dead in his pool with alcohol and marijuana in his system, Conaway died of pneumonia and an infection. All stirred up rumors of a curse and a debate about the show’s purpose/helpfulness. Mindy’s apparent suicide upped the pitch of the reaction, however. Singer Richard Marx, who made news slamming Chris Brown earlier this month, compared Pinsky to Dr. Jack Kevorkian on Twitter: “Same results.” Marx backed off later, saying the crack went too far. He reiterated, however, that the show is … well … “It is, however, my opinion that what Dr. D does is exploitation and his track record is not good,” he wrote. VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew is not currently on the air. Pinsky switched his focus to non-celebrities in Season 6 last fall and changed the title to Rehab . Season 3, shot in 2009, featured McCready, Dennis Rodman, Tom Sizemore, Mackenzie Phillips, Heidi Fleiss and a handful of lesser known celebrities. McCready was a sympathetic character on the show and appeared far less damaged than her fellow cast members in terms of full-fledged addiction. Pinsky diagnosed her with “love addiction.” Mindy suffered a seizure while on the show, further endearing her to Dr. Drew and the others. In an interview with The Associated Press several months later, he said McCready had a good shot at recovery if she remained in treatment. “Like with anybody I treat, it’s really up to them,” Pinsky said. “I never know. If they do the work they’re supposed to do, yes (there can be success).” “If she does the work it will be great. It’s up to her how much of that she does, how much she feels she needs to do. It seems like she’s doing rather well.” Three years later, she’s dead. Her body was found on the front porch of a home she shared with boyfriend David Wilson, who died in the same place – and fashion – 36 days earlier. Pinsky issued a statement Sunday night after he learned of Mindy’s demise. “She is a lovely woman who will be missed by many,” the statement said. “Although I have not treated her for a few years, I had reached out to her upon hearing about the apparent suicide of her boyfriend and father of her younger (child).” “She was devastated. Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority.” “Unfortunately it seems that Mindy did not sustain her treatment.” What do you think? With that Tierra nonsense finally behind us, The Bachelor is getting serious. Sean Lowe has reached the hometown dates. In other words, high stakes. With four women remaining and only three spots remaining to continue on his “journey” next week, one very special someone had to get the chop. But who? Check out The Bachelor spoilers to learn what happens next week and beyond, then come along for THG’s +/- recap of the hometown date episode … Plus 25 right off the bat for the fact that we finally get to see some real dates, i.e. Sean hanging out with the girls without six other girls waiting around. And no Tierra, in general. Plus 5 . The first hometown date goes to AshLee Frazier, who is definitely the oldest, most mature and most serious of the final four. Does that make her a favorite? Not necessarily. They talk about meeting her family and then they do it. That’s about it. They have a nice time, and everyone gets along very well. No points , though because while he seems perfectly content with AshLee, the fun-loving and passionate side of Sean seems lacking when he’s with her. Similar values and backgrounds? No question. Compatible over the long run? Unclear. Guess it all depends on who else he’s still dating here, right? Enter Catherine Giudici, who’s as fun as you can get. They throw fish at each other at Seattle’s Pike Place Fish Market and laugh their brains out. Plus 70 . Sean and Catherine really click – it’s natural, spirited and maybe even a little romantic – but surprisingly, this was his least successful family meeting. Catherine’s family GRILLED both of them, seemingly unconvinced any of this could be genuine. Minus 50 , because they weren’t even listening. Being protective is one thing, but were they just going overboard? It appears she went on the show as a whim, and is now in it for love. They don’t buy it. He also doesn’t get his theoretical proposal blessing from her mom. Burn! Minus 20 . Catherine has life goals and he doesn’t know where he fits in. Burn again! Minus 20 . She’s still in the running, but this hometown date didn’t do her too many favors. Lindsay Yenter, meanwhile, had a great date. In Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Sean met her family, including her dad, who’s a 2-star Army General. Plus 40 for his service to our country. Minus 40 for the producers having Lindsay putting Sean Lowe through a fake army boot camp of sorts. The meeting with her mom and dad went as well as one can hope for under these or any circumstances, however. What nice people they are. Her mom adores Sean and loves how he makes her daughter feel, and respects that he doesn’t dole out the “I love you” bomb lightly. Plus 40 . Her dad, despite the Army exterior, even grants Sean permission to maybe, perhaps, ask his daughter to maybe marry him someday. Plus 10 . Minus 30 , though, for Sean asking this so often and awkwardly, especially if he can’t or won’t say “I love you.” What reactions does he think he’ll get? Lindsay is young and not necessarily the “mature beyond her years” sort of young. Just young. Cute, fun, kind and sweet, but still, very young. Is she ready to settle down? Is Catherine? Maybe AshLee is still in the running after all … it all depends what Sean’s looking for out of all this. Oh, Desiree Hartsock. How you managed to shake up this episode. Plus 30 for the drama that played out, even if some of it was scripted. When she brought Sean back to her house, a jilted ex-boyfriend showed up to try to win her back … and totally fooled Sean. He was an actor. Sort of lame by the producers to pull that, but it was fun to watch Sean squirm a little, and the actor even got in his face, so Plus 20 overall. Des’ parents seemed to approve of Sean, though her brother Nate dominated the interviews (that’s what we’ll call it) and not in a good way at all. First, he tells Desiree Sean feels nothing for her, then pulls Sean away to tell him he doesn’t appreciate The Bachelor playing his sister for a fool. Minus 50 because how would he even know that if it were true? A little guarded skepticism is one thing, but this was just way over the top by Nate. Desiree knew it cast a pall over the whole night, and was hurt, frightened and confused by what happened. Would it be too much for Sean to get past? By the time the rose ceremony came around, he convinced that he wanted to keep AshLee and Lindsay. Plus 25 . The final rose? Still up for grabs! Concerns about Desiree’s brother permeated, though. Whatever his issues with Catherine, he sort of knows where he stands there, unlike with Des. Desiree pleaded for forgiveness for her brother’s behavior … which only made things worse for her when Sean ended up giving that last rose to Catherine. Plus 25 , because that was the right choice, even if Desiree was devastated, and Sean clearly wasn’t sure she was wrong. But, hey, life goes on. Celibate Fantasy Suite time next week!
