Kush Chronic-les: New Study Shows That “Piff-Puffers” Are Less Dedicated To Their Jobs And Careers

“It’s Friday, you ain’t got no job, and you ain’t got isht to do!” *Chris Tucker voice* The author of the study said it can’t prove whether that’s due to the drug’s effects, the social environment in which it’s used or whether pot smokers are just more likely to be laid-back from the get-go. Though researcher Christer Hyggen suspects pot is the culprit, another possible explanation is that people who aren’t so happy with their work situation or motivated on the job are more likely turn to drugs. “There’s a popular belief that people who smoke cannabis are slackers and that they don’t want to work,” Hyggen, from the Oslo-based social research institute NOVA, told Reuters Health. To see how well that perception held up, he analyzed data from a 25-year-long study of close to 1,500 Norwegians. Starting in 1987, when they were in their late teens and early 20s, participants filled out surveys that included questions on their recent pot use on five different occasions, into their 40s. They also rated their attitudes on statements that reflected work commitment, such as “It is very important for me to have a job” and “I feel restless when I have no work to do,” ranked on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 reflecting the most commitment. People who reported smoking in the past year generally reported less dedication to work than abstainers, according to findings published in the journal Addiction. The results of the study are as follows: By the last survey, in 2010, the 63 repeat users had an average score of 3.9 on questions of work commitment. That compared to scores between 4.2 and 4.3 in participants who had only experimented with (cannibis) (ed.) or never tried it, including those who said their friends used the drug but they didn’t. The findings suggested that over time, “people who quit smoking cannabis increase their work commitment, and people who take up smoking cannabis reduce their work commitment,” Hyggen said. While his results can’t prove a cause-and-effect relationship, “we were able to at least close in on this association.” We’re not sure about this one, we’ve known a few folks that are known to wake up and roll a fatty before heading into the office Image via Toxipedia Source More On Bossip! Nick Jonas Talks ‘Dynamite’ Bromance With John Stamos

‘He’s everybody’s Uncle Jesse,’ singer/actor jokes to MTV News about ‘Full House’ alum. By Jocelyn Vena Nick Jonas Photo: MTV News Nick Jonas is currently playing Finch, the lead role in Broadway’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” following in the footsteps of an elite group of singers and actors, including Matthew Broderick, Ralph Macchio and, most recently, Darren Criss and Daniel Radcliffe . But Jonas finds himself channeling a few other actors — one of whom he happens to be besties with — for his performance. “I’m a big fan of Bobby Morse; he was the original, and he was in the movie. I love his work in the movie,” he said, before joking, “I obviously didn’t get to see him when he was Finch in the ’60s. But I really loved his performance [in the movie], and John Stamos is a friend of mine and also played this role back in 1995.” In case you’re wondering how Stamos and Jonas know each other, they both appeared in “Hairspray” at the Hollywood Bowl last year and have stayed in touch since. “He came and saw the show and overall is a pretty hilarious guy,” Jonas said. “So it’s been fun, and I hope that I can meet Bobby Morse one day. Stamos actually sent me a picture of he and Bobby Morse to kind of rub it in my face, so I’m a bit jealous. “[Me and] Stamos? It’s like dynamite,” Jonas continued of their bromance. “We watch a lot of YouTube videos. We talk about music quite a bit. He’s a big music fan. He’s a really good dude. He’s been really kind through the whole process, because he played the role. He knows what it takes to do it. [It’s a] cool older-brother type vibe in that sense. He’s everybody’s Uncle Jesse.” Do you want to hang with Nick and John? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Nick Jonas Related Artists Nick Jonas & The Administration

Chris Brown Accused of Cell Phone Theft; Warrant Issued For Singer’s Arrest

A warrant for Chris Brown’s arrest is being prepared by the Florida State’s Attorney’s office Thursday after he allegedly stole a woman’s phone. Seriously. The supposed victim recently filed a police report against him, according to Deborah Doty, the public information officer for the Miami Police Department. “An incident report was filed against Mr. Brown, and the Florida State Attorney’s Office will be issuing a warrant for his arrest this afternoon,” she said . “I can’t tell you what time, but it will be today.” Chris Brown, whose remixes and relationship with Rihanna are making all kinds of news, is accused of snatching Chrital Spann’s cell phone outside a club. As he sat in a Bentley after exiting a nightclub, the police report states that Spann snapped a picture of Chris Brown chilling in the back of the car. That is when Brown allegedly snatched the phone, which he did not give back (obviously) and told Spann, “B!tch, you ain’t giving this to no website.” Eloquent, Chris Brown. Eloquent. The star, who is currently on probation, has not commented, nor has his attorney, Mark Geragos. Stay tuned. [Photo: WENN.com]

Gabe Watson, Alleged Honeymoon Killer: Acquitted of Murder!

Gabe Watson, the accused and so-called Honeymoon Killer, who spent 18 months in an Australian jail for manslaughter, was acquitted today in an American court. Watson has been cleared in the 2003 death of wife Tina, who died on their honeymoon , suspiciously, and not even two weeks after the couple got married. Prosecutors in Birmingham, Ala., alleged that Watson, 34, shut off his 26-year-old wife’s oxygen supply while scuba diving in Australia to collect insurance money. But, when the prosecution rested after two weeks, the judge granted a defense’s motion for an acquittal on the grounds the prosecution failed to prove its case. “The evidence is sorely lacking that it was an intentional act,” Judge Tommy Nail told the courtroom, according to The Birmingham News . “The only way to convict him of intentional murder is to speculate. Nobody knows exactly what happened in the water. I’m sure we’ll never know.” Watson’s mother collapsed in tears outside court. Watson was being tried in Alabama because that’s where he had been married and where the alleged murder plan had allegedly been hatched. He stunned members of Tina’s family when he pleaded guilty in Australia in 2009 to a lesser charge of manslaughter. Australian authorities agreed to release him to the United States to face charges here after American authorities waived seeking the death penalty. In 2008, while still facing murder charges in Australia, Watson married Kim Lewis, with whom he had gone to high school.

Selena Gomez Gets New Tattoo Of…

Selena Gomez has some fresh ink on her wrist. The singer stopped by Under the Gun tattoo parlor in Hollywood last night and employee Jordan Sandoval Tweeted a shot of his work on Selena’s body: a tiny little heart just under her right forearm. “She was excited…she wasn’t nervous. She is way cute,” Jordan Tweeted along with the photo, adding that Gomez “took it like a champ” and didn’t mention if the heart was in honor of someone in particular. But we all know the answer to that question, don’t we? Selena’s boyfriend is no stranger to do body art himself. Justin Bieber made headlines in January for his Jesus Christ tattoo .

Our History Makers: W.E.B. Du Bois

Visit link:

W. E. B. Du Bois , the African American sociologist, historian, civil rights activist, Pan-Africanist, author, and editor, is most known for his pursuit of social justice and literary imagination. One of the best African American writers to date, Du Bois published over 1,000 essays and writings, some standing the test of over 100 years and still used in classrooms today. Click Here To Read W. E. B. Du Bois Bio Below is a list of the most influential writings of W. E. B. Du Bois. Feel free to add to the list below by adding your comment. 1. The Souls of Black Folk Said to be W. E. B. Du Bois’ most influential piece of writing, this classic piece of American Literature by W. E. B. Du Bois changed the perspective on African American writers, as well as the horrible social life for blacks in the early 1900′s. The Souls of Black Folk also holds an important place in social science as one of the early works to deal with sociology. 2. The Philadelphia Negro In 1897 W. E. B. Du Bois worked as the Assistant in Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducted a social experiment of the Negro community in Philadelphia. His publication that would soon follow his experiment would turn out to be one or the greatest writings on the “Negro” in America. Du Bois gathered information by traveling house to house and conducted personal interviews with each individual head of household. 3. The Negro This non-fiction writing was the first comprehensive history of African and African-derived people, from their early cultures through the period of the slave trade and into the twentieth century. Published in 1915, this book influenced both white and black communities of its time, bringing a better awareness to the plight of the African American. This book was also highly instrumental in helping to inspire generations of people to see things from an African perspective. 4. The Talented Tenth , second chapter of The Negro Problem , a collection of articles by African Americans The talented Tenth is a term that was created by W. E. B. Du Bois to give name to a group of African Americans who had the distinct duty of lifting African Americans from poverty and discrimination to a middle class standard. Du Bois used the term “the talented tenth” to describe the likelihood of one in ten black men becoming leaders of their race in the world, through methods such as continuing their education, writing books, or becoming directly involved in social change. He believed that this was the only way for African Americans to strive in an environment that was set up for failure in the black community. Men we shall have only as we make manhood the object of the work of the schools — intelligence, broad sympathy, knowledge of the world that was and is, and of the relation of men to it — this is the curriculum of that Higher Education which must underlie true life. On this foundation we may build bread winning, skill of hand and quickness of brain, with never a fear lest the child and man mistake the means of living for the object of life. 5. Black Reconstruction in America Published in 1935, Black Reconstruction In America took an in-depth look at the Reconstruction of the south after its defeat in the American civil war. Du Bois’ basic argument was one of rich vs. poor and how Black and White laborers, who are the proletariat, were divided after the civil war on the lines of race, and as such were unable to stand together against the white propertied class, the bourgeoisie. Du Bois stated this was the reason for the rise of Jim Crow Laws and the failure of reconstruction. What makes this book so important is how relevant it is when you look at the problems in today’s society.

Jessica Biel Debuts Engagement Ring From Justin Timberlake

Jessica Biel debuted her engagement ring from Justin Timberlake Saturday. We don’t have photos to prove it, as the notoriously private couple would never flaunt such a thing (they’re the anti-Kardashians). But it happened . The actress, 29, was seen getting cozy with her man, 31, at a Saturday Night Live after-party, the first time Biel went out in public with her sparkler. It was a rare public display of affection for a couple who doesn’t often step out together and who didn’t even announce their own engagement . They usually don’t even attend premieres of the other’s films together, so that the person starring gets the full spotlight for their work each time. This time, though, Biel, 29, and Timberlake, 31, “were very lovey all night and kissed a few times,” a guest at the Ristorante Asellina party says. The couple, who started dating in 2007, celebrated Timberlake’s appearance on SNL as Grammy-winning folk sensation Bon Iver with other guests. Evan Rachel Wood, Sports Illustrated cover girl Kate Upton , David Alan Grier, Seth Meyers, Chloe Sevigny, Natasha Lyonne, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kenan Thompson and Maya Rudolph were all on hand. Also spending time with them: former SNL star Amy Poehler and current cast mate Kristen Wiig, who “loved the ring and chatted [Biel] up about it.” Justin and Jessica are currently trailing Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in our favorite couples tournament matchup .
