Having returned from the motherland to haterville , The Real Housewives of Atlanta headed to a party this week, but instead of encountering a good time there, our fair ladies found only tears, feuding, and boredom. So it goes. Come along as we recap it all, THG +/- style! You can’t kill ’em if they’re already dead. That’s Phaedra’s take away from her embalming training. Plus 15 for her overall excitement about diving into the more gruesome aspects of the job but I was relieved that we only had to watch her work on a dummy. Seeing her learn on a person would have been a little creepy. But Phaedra’s enthusiasm makes the funeral arts look fun. She can’t wait to get in there and make the dead look pretty with a hair and makeup makeover. Plus another 5 because I’m actually beginning to think she can pull this off. Across town, Kim’s trying to get the new house in order before Kroy comes home from training camp but it isn’t going so well. Her dad keeps trying to throw things away. Minus 7 . I hate that but I will agree that Kim’s got way too much stuff but that’s her decision not his. Her bigger issue is Sweetie. Sweetie’s always been a slacker but it’s gotten worse and now she’s complaining about being asked to do too much. Minus 20 . I’ve never had a job where I was allowed to lounge by the pool for the day. Heaven forbid Kim ask her to help move a few boxes in between sun bathing and smoking her cigarettes.
‘I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore,’ she tells Elle U.K. By Jocelyn Vena Ashley Olsen on the April issue of Elle U.K. Photo: Elle UK/Alexei Hay While her little sister Elizabeth Olsen is currently Hollywood’s “It” girl, one half of the Olsen twins, Ashley, has announced that she no longer has plans to act. “We worked non-stop until we were 18,” the fashion mogul said in an interview with Elle U.K. “Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.” It seems her focus will be on her three fashion lines with Mary-Kate, and perhaps a move behind the camera. “I don’t have to be a pretty face,” she said, reports E! News . “I’ve done that, but now it’s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore. “We are perfectionists,” she added about her work as a fashion designer. “We’ve always wanted to be closely involved with everything, totally hands on — that’s why it works. If we step away, it stops working. I know it sounds controlling, but that’s how it has to be.” At the end of the day, MK and Ash still seem to share a similar work ethic. “We’re attracted to different things, but we arrive at the same place,” she said. “I think we’re probably unaware of how intuitive it might seem from the outside. Benedict Cumberbatch tells MTV News working with Peter Jackson was ‘extraordinary.’ By Kara Warner Benedict Cumberbatch Photo: MTV News For those who have been keeping tabs on the comings and goings surrounding Peter Jackson’s return to Middle-earth in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” there is a unique level of excitement building around the film. The die-hard Jackson fans and “Lord of the Rings” loyalists are eager to see anything helmed by the Oscar-winner, particularly when it involves a faithful adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved book, which has a different tone and fanbase from “LOTR.” This excitement level is not just for fans like us, but everyone involved with the production as well. When MTV News caught up with rising star Benedict Cumberbatch recently, who is playing not one but two roles in the film, he was full of praise for Jackson as well as his friend/co-star Martin Freeman. “I was very lucky [to work] with Pete,” Cumberbatch told us at Elton John’s Oscar-viewing party. “As far as the experience, what an extraordinary one it was because at the time I was in my work; I was in isolation with him and this incredible tag team. And at the very cool place with that technology doing mo-cap for two characters, Smaug the dragon and another character, which will remain nameless, and it was an awful lot of fun.” Cumberbatch went on to say that he hasn’t seen any finished shots from the film since he worked mainly by himself doing voice-over work and movements for the characters. “It’s a sort of wonderful ongoing process,” he said. “I spent a lot of time recording voice as well as doing movements. So, it was sort of freeing; it was fun. It was like playing a game. It’s going to be an amazing film; it’s going to be a real treat. I watched ‘The Lord of the Rings’ again before I started working, and the way those films grow in depth of craft on every level are extraordinary. Their mark is for that.” The “War Horse” actor admitted that the only trouble he had while on set was keeping a straight face when he saw his friend and “Sherlock” co-star Martin Freeman in costume as lovable Hobbit Bilbo Baggins. “It was great. I got to hang out with him, and I kept a straight face for a bit and then I started giggling because I know Martin, I don’t know Bilbo,” Cumberbatch said with a grin. “For Martin to be sitting there playing Bilbo is amazing. Asking the important questions while he’s shooting hockey pucks at you is an entirely different story. The star of “John Carter” and “Battleship” hit the ice with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz to take your questions as a part of “MTV First: John Carter.” Though he’s known for his work on the football field in “Friday Night Lights,” Kitsch originally hails from the Great White North, so hockey is in his blood. That isn’t a problem until you’re the one playing goalie. During their interview, Horowitz strapped himself in and faced down Kitsch for a no-holds-barred round of movie questions and ice hockey. But before all that, Kitsch will premiere a never-before-seen clip from “John Carter” on MTV. You’ll have to tune in Thursday, March 1, at 7:56 p.m. ET to see the brand-new footage. Immediately afterward, on MTV.com, Kitsch will answer fan-submitted questions while shooting hockey pucks at his interviewer. It should be a good time. It’s going to be an epic showdown on the ice, and it’s all going to take place on MTV and MTV.com. Mom-to-be will star as Robert Pattinson’s love interest in ‘Bel Ami.’ By Kara Warner Uma Thurman Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images Uma Thurman is a mama-to-be once again. According to E! Online, the “Kill Bill” and ” Bel Ami ” actress and her financier beau Arpad Busson will welcome a new bundle of joy into the world later this year. The new addition to Thurman’s family will join her children Maya, 13, and Levon, 10, with whom she shares custody with ex-husband Ethan Hawke. Hawke has expanded his family in recent years as well. After marrying his and Thurman’s one-time nanny Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, the happy couple has welcomed two children of their own: Clementine, 3, and Indiana, 6 months. Although Thurman will likely begin preparations for her new arrival, fans will get to see more of the 41-year-old beauty in Robert Pattinson’s next film, “Bel Ami,” which opens in March. Thurman has been fortunate to have co-starred with a slew of handsome younger men in her films over the years, which she said she has not taken for granted: “I have been cast opposite a lot of really handsome, charming young men,”
An American television producer found dead on a hotel balcony in Uganda last week died after taking contaminated coke, police and a private investigator said on Saturday. An official toxicology report confirmed the narcotic was in Jeff Rice’s blood, dispelling initial suspicions the father of two known for his work on the U.S. show “The Amazing Race” had been poisoned by attackers. Rice, who was found slumped over a table bleeding through the nose and mouth, died of asphyxiation, a post mortem showed. Drug users who fall unconscious risk inhaling vomit. “Rice … used cocaine which had lethal additives and that’s what killed him,” Uganda police spokesperson Asuman Mugenyi told Reuters. Brad Nathanson, a private investigator and friend of Rice, said he had been shown the toxicology report by police and there was no evidence of foul play in Rice’s death. “In fact it was as a result of buying bad drugs, coke to be specific … it was a bad concoction,” Nathanson told reporters. “I have read the toxicology report … it shows that there were small traces of coke in their blood and urine,” he said, adding he had traveled to Uganda as a friend of the Rice family following rumors he had been poisoned, and not for payment. Rice’s assistant, identified as Kathryne Fuller, was found unconscious when Rice’s body was discovered Feb. 18 at the Serena hotel in the capital, Kampala. She is now reported to be conscious but paralyzed down the right side of her body. Early on, there had been speculation that the two had been poisoned, then that they might have been forced to consume the drugs, because of the high amount of coke in Rice’s stomach. NBC News contributor Clint van Zandt said on the “TODAY Show” on Saturday that it seemed unlikely that Rice would have willingly taken that amount of coke. If Rice and Fuller were believed to have voluntarily consumed the drugs, Fuller could be prosecuted under Uganda’s drug laws. Ugandan police said on Saturday they had arrested a man who confessed selling drugs to the pair who had been in the east African country working on a documentary. SMH.
