Hov says he has no release date in mind for his next LP, in Mixtape Daily. We couldn’t script the problems we had getting to Dallas (with all the flight cancellations), but we made it and D-Town was a movie. Big up to Play N Skillz for rolling out the red carpet and a special thanks to Ahyiana Deldridge and the entire NBA PR team for all the help and access (we were on the court with all the NBA All-Stars!). Normally, on Tuesdays Mixtape features “Don’t Sleep,” but we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming for a special message from Jigga. During the red carpet for his and LeBron James’ “Two Kings Dinner and Afterparty,” presented by Bing and Sprite, we got Jay-Z to tell us a little bit about his new LP. However, don’t expect it any time soon. Just like last year when we asked him about Blueprint 3, Hov said he doesn’t have a release date in mind. (Back in September, he told MTV News that his next album will be the “most experimental” he’s ever made.) “I don’t know,” he said on Saturday when asked about a release date for his next LP. “I didn’t really start yet. I got a couple of scraps and I got a couple of ideas. I didn’t really go into the studio yet. I’ve been toying with ideas and direction and things like that. “I got one crazy record,” he added. “To be honest with you, it’s crazy. I got one and we’ll build from there. Whether it comes out this year or next year, it depends on the music and how it’s coming out. I don’t really have any dates.” In the past few months, we’ve seen Jay perform at the World Series , open up the Super Bowl with a performance video, team up with Rihanna and members of U2 for the Haiti benefit song “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour),” and during NBA All-Star weekend, he definitely had one of the biggest and anticipated parties. This weekend he starts another leg of his Blueprint 3 tour and this summer he headlines the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. Seemingly Jay is everywhere, and it’s all serving as a muse for the music. “The world is inspiring me,” he said. “I get out and see the world and more of the world is accepting of our music and what we do. I’m just inspired by the whole thing and how big hip-hop can be and how much of a phenomenon it is. You couldn’t imagine hip-hop being at the World Series. I touched the championship trophy before A-Rod and the Vince Lombardi trophy before the Saints. You couldn’t imagine that happening 10 years ago. How about five years ago? I’m saying that to say that the journey hip-hop has taken and we are right now, there’s no imitation to it … still.
