Media Liberals on ‘JournoList’ Plotted to Bury the Jeremiah Wright Story in 2008

The Daily Caller has another scoop on the leftist JournoList e-mails today, recalling when they all wanted the Jeremiah Wright story to be dead and buried in the spring of 2008. Jonathan Strong explained “Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.” Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do?”…The tough questioning from ABC left many of them outraged. “George [Stephanopoulos],” fumed Richard Kim of the Nation, is “being a disgusting little rat snake.” In one instance, Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.” Michael Tomasky, a writer for the Guardian, also tried to rally his fellow members of Journolist: “Listen folks–in my opinion, we all have to do what we can to kill ABC and this idiocy in whatever venues we have. This isn’t about defending Obama. This is about how the [mainstream media] kills any chance of discourse that actually serves the people .” “Richard Kim got this right above: ‘a horrible glimpse of general election press strategy.’ He’s dead on,” Tomasky continued. “We need to throw chairs now, try as hard as we can to get the call next time. Otherwise the questions in October will be exactly like this. This is just a disease.” The most eye-opening quote may come from Chris Hayes, a regular guest and occasional guest host on The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, writing about how America is a murderous, torturing giant, and that’s much more outrageous than Wright. In fact, Hayes echoed Wright’s sermons: Chris Hayes of the Nation posted on April 29, 2008, urging his colleagues to ignore Wright. Hayes directed his message to “particularly those in the ostensible mainstream media” who were members of the list. The Wright controversy, Hayes argued, was not about Wright at all. Instead, “It has everything to do with the attempts of the right to maintain control of the country.” Hayes castigated his fellow liberals for criticizing Wright. “All this hand wringing about just how awful and odious Rev. Wright remarks are just keeps the hustle going.” “Our country disappears people. It tortures people. It has the blood of as many as one million Iraqi civilians — men, women, children, the infirmed — on its hands. You’ll forgive me if I just can’t quite dredge up the requisite amount of outrage over Barack Obama’s pastor,” Hayes wrote. For followers of the Clinton scandals, it gets incredibly rich when Katha Pollitt confesses: Katha Pollitt – Hayes’s colleague at the Nation – didn’t disagree on principle, though she did sound weary of the propaganda. “I hear you. but I am really tired of defending the indefensible. The people who attacked Clinton on Monica were prissy and ridiculous, but let me tell you it was no fun, as a feminist and a woman, waving aside as politically irrelevant and part of the vast rightwing conspiracy Paula, Monica, Kathleen, Juanita,” Pollitt said. “Part of me doesn’t like this s–t either,” agreed Spencer Ackerman, then of the Washington Independent. “But what I like less is being governed by racists and warmongers and criminals.” Ackerman went on: I do not endorse a Popular Front, nor do I think you need to. It’s not necessary to jump to Wright-qua-Wright’s defense. What is necessary is to raise the cost on the right of going after the left. In other words, find a rightwinger’s [sic] and smash it through a plate-glass window. Take a snapshot of the bleeding mess and send it out in a Christmas card to let the right know that it needs to live in a state of constant fear . Obviously I mean this rhetorically.

‘Harry Potter’ Actress Bonnie Wright Dishes On Growing Up With Ginny

‘Being the person who sort of ends up with the hero of this franchise is never something I ever would have imagined,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bonnie Wright Photo: MTV News It’s hard to believe that Bonnie Wright was only 9 years old when she first appeared onscreen in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Though looking at production stills of Wright in “Sorcerer’s Stone” through the teasers for “Deathly Hallows,” it’s easy to see the evolution of the young girl grown into the young woman she is today. When MTV News caught up with the actress at the recent opening of Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter , we asked Wright to reflect on how her character, Ginny Weasley, has evolved along with her over the course of the eight “Potter” films. “Being the person who sort of ends up with the hero of this franchise is never something I ever would have imagined,” she said of her character becoming Harry’s love interest. “It’s just been so exciting, so lovely to have something that develops further, and you can make [Ginny] my own and take things from your own life growing up and put those things into it.” Regarding the much-discussed, heavily hyped epilogue , Wright said the “full-on scene” is a fitting end to the series because the filmmakers chose to shoot it as a stand-alone ending, not just a background for the end credits. She added that one of her last scenes in the epilogue was a particularly surreal moment, because her character started and ended her “Potter” journey in the same place. “It wasn’t my last scene, but it was one of my last scenes. That’s where I started the journey of ‘Harry Potter,’ on the platform, and then to see the girl who’s playing our daughter was just psychologically, it was very weird, because she’s the same age as me. It was literally having a whole cycle of the journey.” Wright hopes audiences will appreciate that final scene as much as she did. “I hope it’s well-received. In terms of the prosthetics and creativity of it, they took months and months — I must have done 100 tests and costume fittings. A lot of energy went into making that moment perfect.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Director Edgar Wright Breaks Down Exclusive Clip

He reveals that Chris Evans’ look-alikes in the footage are his actual stunt men. By Rick Marshall Michael Cera in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” Photo: Universal During the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” director Edgar Wright introduced an exclusive new clip from his much-anticipated comic book adaptation. And while the footage of Michael Cera’s Scott Pilgrim throwing down with skateboarder-turned-actor Lucas Lee (Chris Evans) was impressive on its own, Wright took some time out to explain the clip a little better to MTV readers — and offer a little behind-the-scenes information about the scene too. “[It’s] a clip of ex number two, who is Lucas Lee, pro skateboarder-turned-action star played by Chris Evans, and he’s making a new film in Toronto,” Wright explained. “Rather unwisely, Scott Pilgrim stumbles across the set and is about to get his ass handed to him.” As Wright said, it’s only the second of seven battles Scott Pilgrim must wage against the evil ex-lovers of his girlfriend, Ramona Flowers. But when Scott ends up on the wrong side of a beating in the clip, it isn’t delivered by Evans’ character. As you see in the clip (if you haven’t watched it, do it now!), Lucas Lee’s stunt team gets in on the action, forcing Scott to fight off not one, but a whole crew of Lucas look-alikes. According to Wright, the stunt team also happens to be a real group of stunt actors who double for Evans. “They are his stunt guys,” Wright told MTV News. “And the joke is that, as they fan out, they look less and less like Chris Evans. So the main one looks very much like Chris Evans, two and three are pretty good, [but] five, six and seven, not so good.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Jesse James Says He ‘Threw Away’ A ‘Pretty Amazing Life’

‘She’s going to be hurt for a long time,’ he says of his divorce from Sandra Bullock. By Jocelyn Vena Jesse James and Sandra Bullock Photo: Jordan Strauss/ WireImage After months of speculation about his affairs and the eventual end of his marriage to Oscar winner Sandra Bullock , Jesse James sat down with “Nightline” on Tuesday night to try to clear the air. “I think out of everything, this is why I’m doing this interview the most, because you know, dealing with losing my marriage and my son and embarrassing everyone and decimating my life, but to be called a racist on top of that is … it makes me really sad,” James said, referring to photos of him dressed in Nazi regalia that were leaked shortly after it was learned he had cheated on Bullock. “I could tell by the look on my face it was a joke that was funny then, probably for a minute, but then looking at it in the context of now and in my life, it’s not funny,” he said of the photo. “There’s not a racist bone in my body.” In fact, James says that when he and Bullock were in the process of adopting a child, a son that Bullock would later adopt on her own , he says he “didn’t care what color” the baby was. And he says that seeing Bullock now with Louie, he is excited for her. “To see her in the role as mother is, like, one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. She is like a fish to water. … As soon as she put that baby into her hands it was automatic and amazing,” James said. “I found a new trust for her, like I knew she wasn’t going to leave, and our relationship blossomed.” But shortly after they met baby Louie, women began admitting to having affairs with James. “I took a pretty amazing life and amazing success and marriage … and threw it away by my own hands,” he said. “I’ve spent my whole life with the kids and with her trying to … protect her from everything, but the most hurt she’s ever been caused is by the person that wanted to protect her. It’s terrible, and she’s going to be hurt for a long time.” He says that Bullock had suspected something was wrong in the past, but he had tried to convince her otherwise. “I think she’s had her suspicions in the past, but, you know, I lied and lied my way out of it,” he said. “I lied to everyone about everything, even to myself. “When I was doing it, you know, one, I knew it was horrible, it made me feel horrible. And two, I knew I would get caught eventually, and I think I wanted to get caught,” he continued. “I know for a fact now what it was, you know. I mean, it was me trying to self-sabotage my life.” James eventually owned up to the affairs and went to rehab for sex addiction and anger issues . It was a decision that Bullock supported. “I just told her I was going to get some help and I wanted to make sure she would take care of [his daughter] Sunny,” James said. He added that Bullock was “proud” of him.

Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley To Replace Megan Fox In ‘Transformers 3’

Victoria’s Secret model is relative newcomer to acting. By Adam Rosenberg Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Photo: Todd Williamson/ WireImage With Megan Fox out of “Transformers 3” and actors already showing up on set , it’s getting down to crunch time for director Michael Bay, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Paramount to find a replacement female lead. The news today is that they appear to have found one. Deadline Hollywood reported Tuesday afternoon that the search had narrowed to three candidates: Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, actress and former fashion model Sarah Wright and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover girl Brooklyn Decker. Huntington-Whiteley was named the front-runner in the original report, and a later update revealed that she had been chosen. Unlike Wright and Decker, who between them have a number of film and television credits, Huntington-Whiteley is a relative newcomer. She’s been modeling since 2003, for a range of names that include Abercrombie & Fitch, Clinique, DKNY and Ralph Lauren. Huntington-Whiteley has been working with Victoria’s Secret since 2006; it is likely that she made Bay’s short list because of his work on ad campaigns for the lingerie brand. Huntington-Whiteley’s name first came up as a possibility last week in a report from GeekWeek . Neither Wright nor Decker were named in the earlier story; GeekWeek simply wrote, “Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will soon be cast to replace Megan Fox.” Deadline further reports that Bay still has a week before he needs to finalize his pick. Star Shia LaBeouf shoots his first scenes with the female lead in two weeks and the production will continue through the summer. “Transformers 3” is scheduled for a July 2011 release. Chely Wright Makes It Official: I’m Gay

It’s official: Chely Wright is gay. The country music singer tells this week’s issue of People : “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.” That moment has arrived, but Wright says it took awhile to get there. Growing up in the south (she was born in Kansas City, Missouri), the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist in 1994 said she doesn’t have “a memory in my life that doesn’t include the dream of making music.” But she resided in a world that shunned homosexuality and, therefore, “hid everything for my music.” Why come out now? The news coincides with the release of Wright’s memoir this week Like Me , as well as her first album in five years, Lifted off the Ground . Part of the official synopsis for the book reads that Wright made “a pact with God: to keep her “sinning” to a minimum if he’d get her to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.” We’re proud of her for finally revealing her true true to the world. What do you think of this announcement?
