Modern Family: It’s Coming to an End!

One of the most successful sitcoms in television history will soon be coming to an end. During her panel discussion at the 2019 Television Critics Association winter press tour on Tuesday, ABC President Karey Burke announced that Modern Family has been renewed for its 11th season. Hooray, right? Yes, but before you pop open that bottle of champagne: It has been renewed for its 11th and FINAL season. Referencing so-creators Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, Burke gushed over the series that has won Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys five times. “So proud to announce that Modern Family is returning for its 11th and final season,” Burke said, adding in her statement: “Chris and Steve have created one of the most seminal and iconic comedies in television history. “In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.” Lloyd and Levitan released their own statements on the end of their show’s incredible run as well. First, from Lloyd: For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of Modern Family. And now from Levitan: Even after 10 years together, we realized there are still some things our writers don’t yet know about each other’s sex lives. As would be the case for any series that has aired for a full decade, ratings have been trending downward of late for the sitcom. Modern Family is averaging 5.1 million total viewers for Season 10, along with a 1.4 rating among 18-49-year olds; down 10 and 15 percent from Season 9 … … yet ranking as ABC’s number-two comedy (behind The Conners) and number-four series overall. Over the years, Modern Family has won 22 Emmys. The comedy has also picked up a Golden Globe… four SAG Award wins for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series… a Peabody Award… two GLAAD Media Awards… two NAACP Image Awards… six WGA awards… four PGA awards… a Television Critics award. And this list doesn’t even include all the individual honors earned by the show’s cast members. It will go down as one of the most decorated programs of all-time. (And it will end a year after another all-time sitcom great, The Big Bang Theory, airs its final episode on CBS this spring.) Modern Family tells the story of the Dunphys and the Pritchetts — and it has maintained a very steady cast through the years. All of the original actors and actresses remain in their roles, in fact, including: – Ed O’Neill as Jay Pritchett – Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy – Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy – Sofia Vergara as Gloria Pritchett – Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett – Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker – Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy – Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy – Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy – Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado. Will you miss Modern Family? Or is this the right time for the show to say goodbye?

Mo Money: Amazon Closes $13 Million Deal For New Mindy Kaling Comedy About Diversity In Writers Rooms

Source: Phillip Faraone / Getty Mindy Kaling To Star In Comedy About Diversity In Writers Rooms Amazon just closed a $13 million deal for Late Night , a comedy about diversity in a late night talk show writers room that is written, produced, and stars Mindy Kaling . This marks the first major sale out of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Late Night is set to co-star Emma Thompson as a comic who begrudgingly takes an Indian-American writer (played by Kaling) under her wing after she is shamed into hiring more women and minorities. In  her cover story  for  Variety , Kaling said that she saw Late Night as a chance to retell a familiar story of someone trying to break into the entertainment business, but from a fresh perspective. “So much of this movie is about being a fan and being on the outside of the entertainment business,” she told  Variety . “That story has been told many, many, many times by 52-year-old white men, and I love all those movies. And as a comedy nerd I’ve always identified with them because it was the closest thing that I could identify with. There was no one like me making those kind of films.” Late Night was originally set up at Fox 2000 with Paul Feig slated to direct the comedy, but plans changed following Kaling’s pregnancy and an illness in Thompson’s family resulted in the start date getting pushed back. Once production finally began, Kaling lined up independent financing and tapped Nisha Ganatra to direct. Late Night also co-stars John Lithgow, Amy Ryan, and Ike Barinholtz.

Exclusive: Malcolm-Jamal Warner Talks ‘The Resident’, Geoffrey Owens Outrage & More

Read more from the original source:

Malcolm-Jamal Warner never stops working! From his teen days as Theo Huxtable on the Cosby Show to being the cool ladies man on shows like Malcolm & Eddie, MJW has been super consistent in his 30-plus year career. Now the Emmy nominated star is playing a Heart Surgeon on the hit FOX show The Resident. We talked to Warner about playing not only a Black doctor, but a cardiothoracic surgeon in a time when respresentation is more important than ever. He stated, “We spend so much time trying to show the gamit of African American images that I think it’s wonderful to have a Black man as not only one of the top cardiothoracic surgeons in the country, but he’s unabashedly confident about his skills.” During Maocolm’s days on the Cosby Show, one of his former costars was actor Geoffrey Owens who recently made headlines a fan photo of him bagging grocers at Trader Joe’s went viral. Malcolm said if the incident, ”I think I was more moved by the love and support that Geoffrey got  and how the internet just really rallied behind him and shamed those who were at the time trying to shame him. Especially when you look at social media and see how terrible people can be, it was really heart warming to see how many people came behind him to be supportive.“ As for what fans can expect from Season 2 or The Resident, “I think what’s really exciting for all of us is that we get to pull back some layers and see what makes each person tick. And it’s fun for us because as much research and homework we’ve done on our characters, there’s still things we’re learning from the writers. “ The Resident is a cool, new medical drama that focuses on the lives and duties of staff members at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. As they learn the ins and outs of the medical field — we learn the ins and outs and their personal lives and the lives of some of their patients. Warner plays AJ Austin aka The Raptor, a larger-than-life cardio-thoracic surgeon whose uncontrollable personality makes him a serious liability to the hospital. Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who went from recurring character in season 1 to being promoted to a series regular, describes season 2 of the FOX drama as “riveting”, which is code for “you don’t want to miss any of it”. Fellas, Season 3 Of ‘Insecure’ Will Definitely Be Your Favorite…LOL

See the article here:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Insecure is one of those shows that you simply must. tune. into. And it looks like season 3 is going to get even spicier when it drops on August 12. In a recent interview, Issa Rae let it be known that she’s about to take it there . She told The Hollywood Reporter  the upcoming season will address toxic masculinity and adulting, so we hope everyone can handle having to take a look in the mirror. She tells the publication, “I don’t want to give anything away! But I love black masculinity as it relates to black women. I think that’s something interesting that we haven’t gotten a chance to explore yet — and specifically toxic male black masculinity as it relates to black women. I’m trying to find a way to explore that and get a rounded storyline that isn’t preachy.” Issa adds, “This season is about adulting in a new way. I think we’ve watched our characters really fumble and fuck up — and in some ways in your 20s you are allowed that — but this season is about not acting like you’re naive anymore or that you don’t know better. So it is about, what does it look like to know better and to do better?” As for where she draws inspiration for the Insecure storyline, Issa reveals “I’m definitely mining experiences from my own life, especially for my character. And then we tap into the lives and instances and moments a bunch of our writers bring to the room, as well. I think that’s a fun part — everybody has a piece of their life in the show.” Hit THR for Issa’s full interview and get excited for her return to your living room later this summer.
