Ultra Music Festival: An Exclusive Tour Of The Grounds

2011 UMF will ‘be like nothing that anyone has ever seen before,’ festival president Russell Faibisch says. By Adam Stewart Photo: MTV News To the estimated 150,000 fans who will be passing through the gates of the most anticipated dance festival in the U.S., the building anticipation for the Ultra Music Festival is sort of like that of a child’s on Christmas Eve. Starting Friday night and running through Sunday, the Ultra Music Festival will be taking Miami by storm. As crews put the finishing touches on a behemoth two-week-long build, a camera-shy Russell Faibisch, president and executive producer of UMF, was gracious enough to give MTV News a tour of the festival grounds. “Ultra Music Festival 2011 is something that’s going to be like nothing that anyone has ever seen before, on any level,” Faibisch said. “The production is unlike any other festival. The caliber of lineup is second to none. Everyone who walks away from here will be trying to figure out what just happened!” The now three-day event will again be held in downtown Miami’s Bicentennial Park, which for this year will be arranged slightly differently than in years past due to a construction project that’s going on in its traditional footprint. “While we lost one corner to construction, we cleared out a lot of space on the other side of the park that wasn’t usable before,” Faibisch said. “When you add it all up, it about evens out, and the layout is actually much more functional for us this year.” Said shuffle has given birth to the insanely impressive Carl Cox and Friends arena, which will be home base for the man of the same name on Friday and Saturday. The arena will then be handed over to Dutch trance legend Armin Van Buuren, who will be broadcasting his “A State of Trance 500” show live via satellite to a worldwide audience estimated at 20 million. “We’re really proud of this thing. We brought it out from California — we’ve never had it out here in Florida before,” Faibisch said of the arena, which boasts two floors and an estimated capacity of over 10,000 all on its own. “We have VIPs on the second level inside, and the production that’s going on there is really going to be out of this world.” Adjacent to the mega-arena, several high-tech “domes” garnish the grounds, including the Tower of Ultra, which will play host exclusively to Dubstep artists on Saturday and Sunday, all to a visual 3-D display that is sure to make Skrillex blush during his live set. But the granddaddy of them all is, of course, the Ultra Main Stage, and with this year’s immense superstructure graced by the presence of Ti

B.o.B Says Fans Will ‘Be Surprised’ By His New Album

‘You’ll definitely see new music this year,’ he says at South by Southwest. By James Montgomery B.o.B Photo: MTV News AUSTIN, Texas — B.o.B’s debut disc topped the Billboard albums chart and spawned a pair of smash singles, and, in the process, transformed him from a hotly tipped underground artist to one of the brightest stars in hip-hop. As he begins work on the follow-up to The Adventures of Bobby Ray , is it possible for him to top that album’s success? Even he doesn’t know the answer to that question — but he’s willing to give it his best shot. “I would have to parallel my album coming out to losing your virginity,” he told MTV News at the South by Southwest festival. “The first time you have sex is way more exciting than the second time. Not that the second time isn’t exciting, it’s just … the initial excitement of finally having that first album. “I think that people will definitely be surprised at the music they hear on the second album,” he added. “I don’t think they would expect that coming from me.” And while details of the new album are still scarce — switching from sexual metaphors to sports metaphors, B.o.B said he’s “just at the end of the first quarter” of the recording process” — he’s already planning to give fans a taste of his new material very soon. “There’s probably going to be some surprises. There’s no telling what the next three quarters will be like,” he said. “We should be seeing something very soon. Even if not an album, you’ll definitely see new music this year.” And though he might be changing things up for album number two, B.o.B isn’t going to stray far from the concept that brought him so much success with Bobby Ray : Specifically, avoiding any and all preconceived notions of what hip-hop should be. Which, in one way, is probably going to make his album feel very much like the first time. “You should never get comfortable,” he said. “I feel like, for me, I embrace everything.” What do you expect B.o.B’s next album to sound like? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists B.o.B

L.A. Reid, Enrique Iglesias Reportedly Tapped For ‘X Factor’

Announcement regarding judges expected this week. By Jocelyn Vena Enrique Iglesias Photo: Kristian Dowling/ WireImage With names like Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger all still floating around as possible judges, multiple sources are confirming that music executive L.A. Reid will be one of the judges on Simon Cowell’s “X Factor” when it premieres this fall. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that “it’s a done deal.” Simon Cowell told MTV News earlier this week that an announcement regarding the judges on the show would be made “within the week.” Reid will reportedly be let out of his contract with Universal Music early and may take a position with Sony Music, who will provide the show’s winner a recording contract in addition to the $5 million cash prize. Sources confirmed Reid’s departure to Billboard . In addition to the news that Reid is joining the show, there’s talk that Enrique Iglesias has been approached to host the reality singing competition, according to Deadline Hollywood . Iglesias reportedly was interested in becoming a judge rather than the host of the show, but with his own music career as red hot as ever, he may choose to stick with performing. A rep for the show had no comment regarding the rumors when contacted by MTV News. Reid’s involvement would make sense, given what Cowell shared with us regarding what he wants in the judges on the panel. “I’ve got to have people on the panel with me who can judge American talent because I’m 51 years old, I’m British and we’ve got people as young as 14 entering this competition. So I’ve got to make sure I’ve got people sitting alongside me who genuinely know what they’re talking about so that we don’t lose somebody in the audition process.” Related Artists Enrique Iglesias
