True Blood’s Ratings Don’t Suck

True Blood came back to HBO with its biggest season premiere yet , although its 5.1 million viewer tally — up 38% from last year’s opener — isn’t the show’s highest-rated episode ever. Still, if True Blood can continue its unlikely trend of growing from episode to episode, as it did last season, this is a great place to start. How soon until they add some (literal) bloodsuckers to Tilda ? [ EW ]

Breaking Bad Finale Ratings Rise

Apparently viewers do like soul-crushingly bleak darkness on their television. The season finale of Breaking Bad was watched by 1.6 million viewers, up 17 percent from last year’s season finale. Overall, Breaking Bad was up 22 percent for the season in the 18-49 demographic. No wonder AMC renewed it. No word yet on whether the network will pay for fans’ therapy bills. [ THR /The Live Feed]

CNN Hopes to Replace Larry King with Piers Morgan; Confuse Got Talent Viewers

Sad news, the 700,000 or so viewers that still tune into Larry King Live! Your favorite suspendered host allegedly has only until the autumn to croak “You’re on, caller” into the mic because CNN is finally replacing Larry King with someone a little younger, a little hipper and a little less likely to cite Arthur Godfrey as his broadcasting inspiration.

What is it with movie stars moonlighting as marketing geniuses? Earlier, it was Aubrey Plaza stumping for Super 8 — though, to be fair, Plaza just tweeted the following: “I’m not MarKEtinG SH*T! I just GOTTA know what’s indat BOXXXX ” — and now Robert Pattinson has come up with a surefire way to get people in the seats for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse . At a press conference today, when asked why people should see Eclipse , Pattinson offered the best reason he could think of: “Why not?”
