Michelle Williams ‘So Grateful’ For Oscar Nod

‘This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime,’ the ‘My Week With Marilyn’ star says in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn” Photo: The Weinstein Company Michelle Williams is getting Oscar love yet again. Williams is nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for “My Week With Marilyn,” facing off against screen legends and some fresh blood. “I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors — a special congratulations to [co-star] Kenneth Branagh — and the fearless Harvey Weinstein,” she said in a statement. “This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime. I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn’s legacy.” The other nominees in her category are Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Viola Davis (“The Help”), Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”). Branagh, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work in “Marilyn,” was equally amped about the recognition. “It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier,” he said in a statement. “To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I’m absolutely thrilled.” Williams already won the Golden Globe for her role in the film earlier this month. This marks her third Oscar nod after previous nominations for “Blue Valentine” and “Brokeback Mountain,” though she has yet to take one home. Recently, former “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Joshua Jackson opened up about Williams’ critically lauded career . “It’s surreal, in that it would be surreal to see any of your friends [up for an Oscar]. It’s amazing. She’s an excellent actress,” he told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival . “Of all of us, when we finished that show, she was the one who had the clearest idea about what it was that she wanted to do. To be able to go out and achieve that is no small feat. I just think it’s wonderful.” See the complete list of Academy Awards Nominations . Ricky Gervais Slams Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber in Golden Globes Monologue

Compared to his monologue from 2011 , Ricky Gervais took it very easy on celebrities to open tonight’s Golden Globe Awards. Celebrities in attendance, that is. The comedian did get in a couple of digs at two THG mainstays, however, first comparing this ceremony to the Academy awards via this zinger: “The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton. A bit louder, bit trashier, bit drunker, and more easily bought… allegedly.” Gervais then turned his attention to Justin Bieber, referring to his paternity test scandal and expressing shock at the mere notion of Bieber as a father. Quipped the host: “The only way that he could have impregnated a girl is if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart’s turkey basters.” Eh, not bad. Fairly random, considering music is the one industry NOT recognized by the Golden Globes, but, hey, being referenced in a monologue means you’ve really made it. Wait, no one tell that to Kim.

Gene Hackman Hit By Car, Airlifted to Hospital

Oscar winner Gene Hackman airlifted to the hospital Friday afternoon after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in the Florida Keys, his rep said. Fortunately, the 81-year-old is alright and and on the mend. “Gene was airlifted (because he is on an island) to the hospital for routine tests,” the rep confirmed. “Everything is fine and Gene is on his way home now.” The actor suffered only “a few bumps and bruises.” TMZ, which first reported the accident, said that the collision occurred at around 3 p.m. EST Friday, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Gene was assigned a special hospital room for high-profile patients where doctors could keep a close eye on the star, who suffered a cut on his forehead. Hackman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for 1971’s The French Connection and another Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1992’s Unforgiven . [Photo: WENN.com]

Finding Nemo Trailer: Just Keep Swimming in 3D!

Finding Nemo, the undersea classic from Disney and Pixar, returns to theaters in 3D this September. The 2003 hit won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Albert Brooks stars as Marlin, a maligned clownfish determined to rescue son Nemo, who was scooped up by an Aussie diver and placed in a tank with other captives. Ellen DeGeneres is Dory, Marlin’s lovable, memory-challenged sidekick. Visually stunning then, and even now in standard definition, it should look even more so in three dimensions. After a month-long absence, Long first appeared on New Year’s Eve preaching from his pulpit with his usual fiery style, saying: 2012 is here! Shake off the remorse, shake off the depression, shake off the financial burden, start using your hands again and reconstructing! God is more about your future than he was about your past. I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction. You’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business. As we previously reported, Long’s wife, Vanessa Long, wife filed for divorce last month. Last fall four young men accused Eddie Long of sexual abuse. Although Long vowed to fight the charges, he later settled the matter out of court for an undisclosed sum of money.
