Javier Bardem To Guest-Star On ‘Glee’

Oscar winner is expected to appear as a ‘rock star’ on the musical hit show. By Mawuse Ziegbe Javier Bardem Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images “Glee” has scored fans by covering infectious pop hits from musical mega-stars, but the smash TV show is also lining up some A-list Hollywood talent for its upcoming season. Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem is expected to guest-star on “Glee” when the show returns for season two. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Oscar-winning Spaniard will play a “rock star” who makes friends with Gleek Artie (played by Kevin McHale). The magazine’s website reports that Bardem became a fan of the show after viewing the entire first season of the breakout TV phenomenon in a single week. Apparently the actor, who is known for more dramatic flicks such as “No Country for Old Men” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” is up for the chance to be a part of the song-and-dance juggernaut. “We’re going to rock the house,” Bardem said, adding that he plans to mix up the show’s catalog of dance-floor-friendly fare. “We’re going to do some heavy metal,” said Bardem. ” Spanish heavy metal, which is the worst. ” The entertainment website also reports that the upcoming guest role comes after Bardem brought up the idea to “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy. Bardem and Murphy worked together on this summer’s Julia Roberts-helmed flick, “Eat, Pray, Love,” which is based on the best-selling memoir. Bardem isn’t the only Hollywood heavyweight to pass through the halls of William McKinley High. “How I Met Your Mother” star and Emmy Awards host Neil Patrick Harris appeared on the show, Broadway diva Idina Menzel popped up as a coach of the rival team, Vocal Adrenaline, and Olivia Newton-John stopped by to revamp her 1981 hit “Physical.” Related Photos The Year In ‘Glee’ What Other ‘Glee’ Music Videos Do We Want To See?

Adam Sandler, Chris Rock Talk Richard Pryor Biopic

‘It’s all being worked on,’ Sandler tells MTV News, after losing director Bill Condon to ‘Breaking Dawn.’ By Eric Ditzian Chris Rock and Adam Sandler Photo: MTV News Richard Pryor died in 2005 at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of legendary comedy — and equally legendary debauchery. He was the guy a generation of stand-up comedians modeled themselves after, and he was the guy whose long-standing drug abuse — including a frightening incident in which he lit himself on fire while freebasing cocaine — stood as a warning to rising comics about the dangers of addiction and fame. Two of the comedians who rose to prominence in the decades after Pryor’s trailblazing comedic stylings, Adam Sandler and Chris Rock , are deep in development as the producers of “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?” a biopic about the funnyman. Eddie Murphy circled the Pryor role at one point, and before his death, Pryor himself anointed Mike Epps (“The Hangover”) as the guy for the part. But the gig eventually went to Marlon Wayans. Why? Rock had some answers. “Marlon Wayans, he did a screen test and it was just unbelievable,” Rock told MTV News recently. “It’s not just doing the comedy of Richard Pryor. He captures the vulnerability of Richard Pryor.” Long attached to helm the project, director Bill Condon should begin shooting “Is It Something I Said?” in the fall. But now that Condon has signed on to direct the conclusion of the two-part “Twilight Saga,” “Breaking Dawn” — also this fall — things seem to be getting complicated. Is Condon still on board? Will Sandler and Rock get their project off the ground? “Hopefully, soon,” Sandler said. “It’s all being worked on. Hopefully soon.” What do you think of Marlon Wayans playing iconic comedian Richard Pryor? Would you have cast another actor? Let us know in the comments!

Andrew Garfield’s Journey Toward Spider-Man

Young actor’s life will never be the same following director Marc Webb’s choosing him as the new Spider-Man. By Eric Ditzian Andrew Garfield Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images On Thursday night in Cancun, Mexico, new “Spider-Man” director Marc Webb and his producers took the stage at a press event to make a long-awaited announcement — one feverishly anticipated and debated since the collapse of Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” in January: the name of the new Spider-Man . “Though his name may be new to many, those who have seen his work will know this young man embodies an exceedingly rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity,” Webb said onstage . “Without further ado, meet your new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield.” And with that, the 26-year-old Garfield walked onto the stage to a chorus of applause, his life never to be the same again. For while he does have a significant filmography to his name, he’s never experienced anything that can compare to being the face of a blockbuster comic-book franchise. Born in Los Angeles, he was raised outside London and got his start as an actor on the stage. In 2006, he was dubbed outstanding newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his West End stage work and in 2007 shared the London Theatre Critics’ Circle Most Promising Newcomer Award. By that point, Garfield had already stepped in front of the camera for big- and small-screen work. He appeared alongside Robert Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep in “Lions for Lambs,” prompting Variety to name him one of 10 Actors to Watch. “I’m just lucky to be there working on the same project as them, although I don’t really expect to be recognized later by audiences,” he told the magazine. Across the pond, he blew British audiences away with his performance as a secretive kid in “Boy A,” a TV movie that won Garfield a BAFTA Best Actor Award . Perhaps his most well-known role to date, though, is a turn opposite Heath Ledger in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” in which he played a gangly kid and romantic rival to Ledger as they both competed for the affections of Lily Cole. While “Spider-Man” won’t hit theaters until the summer of 2012, this year is already shaping up to be a profile-raising one for Garfield. He stars alongside Jesse Eisenberg this fall in the highly anticipated, David Fincher-directed “The Social Network” and also with Keira Knightley in “Never Let Me Go,” an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s haunting novel of the same name. Mel Gibson Condemned For Alleged Racist, Sexist Rant Against Ex

Reported taped outburst against Oksana Grigorieva ‘reveal the actor’s fundamental character flaw,’ Jesse Jackson says. By Gil Kaufman Mel Gibson Photo: Jordan Strauss/WireImage Mel Gibson’s messy public split from the mother of his 8-month-old daughter got uglier on Thursday, when reports emerged about a 30-minute tape-recorded rant of the actor hurling racist and sexist epithets against Oksana Grigorieva. Amid reports that physical abuse allegedly took place in the brief relationship Gibson, 54, had with the 40-year-old Russian model/singer following his divorce from his wife of 30 years, RadarOnline revealed that the actor used the N-word and other expletives during a profanity-laced argument with his ex. Gibson’s spokesperson did not deny that the speaker in the taped outburst was his client, but the one-time box-office giant has not commented on the recording as of press time. The couple, who were first seen together a month after Gibson’s divorce last year from the mother of his seven children, broke up in April and are fighting for custody of their daughter. Grigorieva reportedly made the tape because she feared for her life after Gibson allegedly made threats against her. During one segment, Gibson allegedly says, “I am going to come and burn the f–king house down … but you will b— me first.” And in another, he reportedly tells her that she looks like a “f—ing pig in heat” who risked getting “raped by a pack of n—–s,” as their baby screams in the background. The Reverend Jesse Jackson told Radar that the latest racist outburst proved that Gibson has a “fundamental character flaw.” “Mel Gibson’s outburst demonstrates once again that we are far from a society that is ‘beyond race and racism,’ ” Jackson told the site. “His penchants for anti-Semitic and racist diatribes reveal the actor’s fundamental character flaw. … He needs help.” The Los Angeles NAACP released a statement to TMZ condemning the outburst. “An apology is insufficient given his history of racism, sexism and anti-Semitism,” L.A. branch president Leon Jenkins said. “No amount of words will change his image as an out of date and out of control racist. Only [with] a sustained period of positive acts can his legacy be redeemed.” Renowned attorney Gloria Alred also got into the mix and sent Gibson an open letter via Radar saying, “As an attorney who has represented many sexual assault victims and as a woman who is a survivor of rape myself, I want you to know how deeply offensive, appalling and harmful your reported statements are.” This is not the first time Gibson has been called out in public for using racial slurs. The “Lethal Weapon” actor, once one of the most popular, bankable movie stars in the world, was blasted by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in 1991 over an interview in which he made derogatory comments about homosexuals. Several of his movies — including “Braveheart” and “The Passion of the Christ” — have been criticized for their portrayal of homosexuals and Jews. In addition to allegations that “Christ” had anti-Semitic overtones, a leaked report from a DUI arrest in July 2006 had Gibson — who has struggled with alcohol abuse — making anti-Jewish remarks to one of the arresting officers, saying, “F—ing Jews. … Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” He also made derogatory, sexist remarks to a female officer during the same traffic stop, calling her “sugar t–s.” Gibson later confirmed that he made the comments and apologized twice through his publicist, but the incident appeared to have a lasting impact on his movie career, which has stalled since the arrest. Gibson has denied claims by Grigorieva that he knocked her teeth out during an argument. Both parties have filed restraining orders against each other in the midst of the custody battle. A spokesperson for Gibson could not be reached for comment at press time.

Will the New Mel Gibson Controversy Wreck Jodie Foster’s The Beaver?

I had no doubt that the Mel Gibson/Oksana Grigorieva breakup as going to get ugly, but I guess I didn’t quite anticipate it to get this ugly: Radar Online has come into some nasty tirades the actor unleashed on his ex , and it ain’t pretty. The centerpiece line — “You look like a f***ing pig in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n***ers, it will be your fault” — has already resuscitated memories of Gibson’s infamously anti-Semitic 2006 arrest in Malibu, a blight that caused the actor to disappear from the screen until this year. In fact, 2010 was supposed to herald a comeback for Gibson, thanks to his role in Jodie Foster’s quirky comedy The Beaver . Now what?

Jeffrey Jones Arrested on Sex Offender Charge

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off feels a lot less funny all of a sudden. Jeffrey Jones, the actor best known for playing Principal Ed Rooney in that classic comedy, was arrested last week on a felony charge after he failed to update his registration as a sex offender. Yes, the man that tried to chase down Matthew Broderick’s character in that 1986 movie pleaded no contest to having a 14-year old boy pose seductively for him in 2003. As a result, he was forced to register, visit a counselor and complete five years’ probation. On June 23, Jones was apprehended after he did not renew his California registration within the five days of his previous birthday. It’s the second time the troubled actor has faced an arrest after his initial charges. He failed to inform authorities of a move in 2004. Can we put this guy behind bars now please?!?

Kellan Lutz Says ‘Eclipse’ Has ‘A Great Mix Of Romance And Action’

‘It’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,’ Lutz tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Kellan Lutz definitely has the build to pull off the most intense action scenes in “Eclipse,” and the actor knows that the third “Twilight Saga” flick is Emmett Cullen’s time to shine. “I just love doing my own stunts,” he told MTV News. “I love stunt work. It sucks that I can’t rewrite the books and add more dialogue for Emmett, because I really do have more action scenes than dialogue. So it’s great when ‘Eclipse’ came around, ’cause I do love the book the best, and I think it just had such a great mix of the romance and the action and the collaboration of the two. “I love to work, so it’s great when Emmett’s in there, and he’s there to fight,” he added. “So I really just loved doing stunts.” When ideas were brewing about how to make the stunts happen in “Eclipse,” Lutz was the go-to guy for experimentation. “The producers know I like doing the stunts so much, to the point where they make me the guinea pig,” he laughed. “So we were doing this treadmill running sequence, so you’re wearing these contacts and you’re breathing in exhaust from the truck, and it’s cold as hell up there, and you’re trying to run and not pant, ’cause I’m a vampire.” The cast has been quite vocal about upping the action ante in “Eclipse.” Taylor Lautner recently revealed that it’s the most “guy-friendly” of the “Twilight” flicks. “It’s my favorite, because it’s the most guy-friendly by far,” Lautner explained. “It’s dangerous. There’s a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It’s great.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Twilight’ Vs. ‘The Last Airbender’: Jackson Rathbone’s Characters Face Off!

‘I’m just lucky they live in two different dimensions,’ the actor tells MTV News. By Rick Marshall Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News Jackson Rathbone is a busy guy these days. With featured roles in not one but two of this week’s biggest releases, the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “The Last Airbender” actor is doing the press rounds and fielding questions from just about every media outlet in the world. Don’t worry, though, MTV News still managed to ask him the most important question of them all: Who would win in a fight between his boomerang-wielding “Airbender” character Sokka and his “Twilight” vampire Jasper? Given the magnitude of the question, it’s no surprise he had to stall for time and defer to “Airbender” co-star Nicola Peltz when MTV News posed the question. “Sokka, no question,” Peltz said. Pressed for an explanation as to why her “Airbender” character’s brother, who can’t “bend” water and doesn’t have any special abilities other than a good throwing arm, could hold his own against the “Twilight” bloodsucker, Peltz reiterated that Sokka would be the victor if the two ever faced off. “Definitely Sokka,” she said. “He has a boomerang!” Rathbone, on the other hand, took a more neutral — though decidedly less fun — stance on the debate. “I’m just lucky they live in two different dimensions, two different worlds,” he said, going the safe route. “It’s an honor to be a part of these two big franchises that seem to have captivated the world in one form or another, and I’m just privileged to be able to do what I love to do.” With “Eclipse” arriving in theaters Wednesday (June 30) and “The Last Airbender” premiering Thursday, it looks like audiences will be able to decide for themselves soon enough. Which of Jackson’s characters do you think would come out on top? Sound off in the comments!
