Kids’ Choice Awards 2011: The Show And Winners List

Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus awarded on slime-filled Nickelodeon night. By Aly Semigran Russell Brand and Rico Rodriguez get slimed onstage during Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images For 23 years, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards has been an event in which celebrities can truly let loose. After all, it’s hard to have an ego when you’re getting covered in green slime or being inducted into the Arm Fart Hall of Fame (we’re looking at you, Josh Duhamel). Nick’s 2011 awards show, which aired lived on the network Saturday from Los Angeles, kept with its tradition of stars finding themselves in some truly outrageous situations. Host Jack Black , who was at the helm for the third time (he last helped hand out those coveted orange kaleidoscope blimps in 2008), kicked things off with an over-the-top musical number. The funnyman, wearing a black leather jumpsuit with flames — the first of many quirky wardrobe changes — was joined by a group of dancers to perform his own rendition of the Black Eyed Peas’ hit “I Gotta Feelin’.” Black then introduced the group, as the “Jack Black Eyed Peas,” and joined them onstage for “The Time (Dirty Bit).” BEP, who later won the award for Best Music Group, then sang their next single, “Just Can’t Get Enough.” The first award of the evening was given out to Johnny Depp, who won Favorite Movie Actor for his performance in “Alice in Wonderland.” Depp, who emerged from backstage, told the kiddie crowd and voters it was “truly a pleasure to receive this award that comes from you guys. I appreciate it.” After apologizing for beating Black in the category, Depp told Nick viewers, “You guys are the future; take good care of us.” The actor then proceeded to get in on the fun, sliming the group of young fans who stood at the foot of the stage. Depp’s stunt led to one of the evening’s most memorable — and by far, funniest — moments when “Arthur” actor Russell Brand and “Modern Family” star Rico Rodriguez appeared onstage soon after to present the award for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (the blimp eventually went to Eddie Murphy, who got the crowd to sing him “Happy Birthday,” for his role in “Shrek Forever After”). Before Brand and Rodriguez could even begin their banter at the podium, the freshly slimed youngsters began throwing the green, gooey mess at the two stars. In response to the mayhem, Brand declared, “I’m never having children.” Brand continued, as he guarded Rodriguez from the kiddie coup, “I am English! I am your leader! You must not do this, I am royalty! You are all going to juvenile hall. You children are going to prison. You are bad children!” Brand, who is voicing a character in the animated feature “Hop,” cried that the moment was not in the script, then joked, “Johnny, I wished you’d drowned them.” They weren’t the only stars to get slimed during the broadcast. Heidi Klum, who almost took a spill thanks to her sky-high heels, got hit, as did Jason Segel, who received a slime slushie courtesy of Jane Lynch. Even Snoop Doog — who joined pop-rock group and Nick stars Big Time Rush for their song “Boyfriend” — got doused in the green stuff. As Willow Smith performed her hits “21st Century Girl” and “Whip My Hair,” the 10-year-old was cheered on by her dad, Will Smith, and brother, Jaden Smith, who were in the audience. The final big award of the evening went to Miley Cyrus , who won for Favorite Movie Actress for “The Last Song.” The former “Hannah Montana” star attempted to put gossip to rest during her acceptance speech as she thanked her family for supporting her career. Cyrus will no doubt get fans wondering about the status of her relationship with “Last Song” co-star and on-again, off-again beau Liam Hemsworth , whom she thanked for “helping me make movie magic” in the 2010 drama. The Big Help Award, which was presented by Rosario Dawson, went to singer/actor Justin Timberlake for his devotion to charities, particularly the work he does with Shriners Hospital for Children. In between cracking jokes about burping and getting the crowd to cheer if they had ever helped anyone, Timberlake took the time to tell his young fans, “Your heart is the most beautiful part, so don’t forget to use it.” In addition to telling kids they can do their part to help, even with major issues such as the crisis in Japan, the star said something bound to make any adult watching elated: “Listen to your parents!” Finally, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian hit the stage to help give away the last award of the night for Favorite TV Show, which went to the kid-friendly Nickelodeon hit “iCarly.” Black kept a high energy throughout the show, including some interactions with his “Kung Fu Panda 2” character, Po, — one of which featured a cameo from Britney Spears in a pre-recorded segment. He ended the evening with a slime battle between himself and Jim Carrey, who made a surprise finale appearance. Other winners included: Favorite Female Singer Katy Perry Favorite Male Singer Justin Bieber Favorite Song “Baby” – Justin Bieber Favorite Movie “The Karate Kid” Favorite Animated Movie “Despicable Me” Favorite Reality Show “American Idol” Favorite TV Actress Selena Gomez Favorite TV Actor Dylan Sprouse Favorite Book “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series Favorite Cartoon “Spongebob Square Pants” Favorite Male Athlete Shaquille O’Neal Favorite Female Athlete Lindsey Vonn Favorite Video Game “Just Dance 2” What was your favorite moment at the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards? Denise Richards Increases Security, In Fear of Charlie Sheen

When Charlie Sheen is spewing nonsense about warlocks and winning, it’s easy to laugh along with the unemployed actor. But then it’s also important to remember: He’s been accused of, and arrested for, multiple assaults against women. This is a shady individual whose issues go far beyond whatever he puts in his own body and whatever words he uses against Chuck Lorre. Denise Richards is constantly aware of this fact, however, which is why sources say the actress has increased security around her and her daughters. She’s taken such a step in light of Sheen’s recent, hate-filled Tweet that labeled her a “traitor” and a “dog killer.” “Denise and her girls live a simple life,” an insider tells Pop Eater . “She wants Sam and Lola to have normal lives, but after the recent threats and verbal attacks, she has increased her security. When you are dealing with a mad man, it’s better to be safe than sorry.” While the public is first getting a look at the dangerous side of Sheen, it’s one with which Richards has been unfortunately aware for years. Says the source: “If Charlie is willing to put those evil tweets out in public, you can only imagine what he has called Denise in private… Denise is no longer angry – she’s scared.” Does anyone blame her?

Lil Wayne, Paris Hilton Bond Over Jail Time In Interview

The rapper and the heiress also discuss astrology, animals and, of course, music in the April issue of the magazine. By James Montgomery Lil Wayne Photo: Alexander Tamargo/Getty Images In the April issue of Interview magazine , Lil Wayne and Paris Hilton bond over their love of animals, music and Miami hotspots … and, of course, their time behind bars, too. In a cross-country phone call — Wayne was at home in Miami while Hilton was taking a break from shooting a reality series in Los Angeles — the pair discussed a variety of topics (Googling themselves, the paparazzi, astrology, etc.,), but really broke the ice when the conversation turned to their respective jail sentences. Wayne did eight months at New York’s Rikers Island after a gun-possession arrest, while Hilton famously served 23 days in 2007 following a parole violation. “For me, it was OK, because it just meant that I was alone in my thoughts,” Wayne said when asked about the portion of his sentence he served in solitary confinement, after being caught with an MP3 player. “There were times when it was pretty tough to be by yourself, and to have no television, no nothing. That was kind of tough.” “I had to do 24 nights in solitary,” Hilton added [during her sentence, she was held in a separate cell as a safety precaution]. “Oh, so you know how it is?” Wayne responded. “Yeah, I know how it is,” Hilton said. The discussion then turned to being released from prison — an experience Wayne said “words cannot explain,” and one Hilton called “the best feeling in the world” — and how that newfound freedom affects the individual. “You’re definitely more in tune to what you’re doing. You’re definitely more humble,” Wayne explained. “I think that most people who come out of that situation just want to make the most of life afterwards. Honestly, it was just one big humbling experience.” And in keeping with that life-affirming sentiment — following some in-depth talk about travel and zodiac signs and Weezy’s pet sharks — both Wayne and Hilton discussed what’s next for them: Hilton said she’d “really love” to finish her long-in-the-works second album, while Wayne … well, he has more tangible goals. “I want to bank a cool $50 million at least,” he said. “At the end of the year, I want to be able to say that I banked $50 million. Not generated $50 million, but actually banked $50 million.” Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Moments In Paris Hilton’s Legal Life Related Artists Lil Wayne Paris Hilton

‘Black Swan’ Body Double Sarah Lane Stirs Controversy

Lane says there’s been a ‘cover-up’ to promote idea that Natalie Portman did most of the dancing. By Eric Ditzian Natalie Portman in “Black Swan” Photo: FOX Searchlight “It was really extreme,” Natalie Portman told MTV News in November. “And I definitely felt both physical and mental aftershocks from the experience, because it was the first thing I’ve ever done that was this physically demanding on top of an emotionally demanding part.” She was speaking about the 10 months she spent training to play a ballerina in “Black Swan,” a role that would earn her a Best Actress Oscar in February. Now that awards season is over, however, a controversy has erupted over how much of the dancing in “Black Swan” was executed by Portman and how much was the work of her professional ballet-dancing body doubles. Sarah Lane, a 27-year-old soloist at the American Ballet Theatre who stood in for Portman in the film, told Entertainment Weekly that she has been the victim of a “cover-up” meant to tout Portman’s work at the expense of her own. “Of the full body shots, I would say 5 percent are Natalie. All the other shots are me,” she said. “They wanted to create this idea in people’s minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half for the movie, basically because of the Oscar. It is demeaning to the profession and not just to me. I’ve been doing this for 22 years.” Following Lane’s comments, Fox Searchlight released a statement that was both supportive of the dancer but emphasized the amount of Portman’s own ballet that made it into the movie. “We were fortunate to have Sarah there to cover the more complicated dance sequences and we have nothing but praise for the hard work she did,” the statement read. “However, Natalie herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film.” The debate caught fire last week after Benjamin Millepied, Portman’s fianc

Amy Adams: From ‘June Bug’ To Lois Lane

We take a look at the eclectic list of roles the Oscar-nominated actress, and new Superman love interest, has played. By Eric Ditzian Amy Adams Photo: Getty Images Henry Cavill might have been getting a little lonely in Metropolis. Two months after landing the role of Superman in Zack Snyder’s reboot of the superhero franchise, the 27-year-old actor still hadn’t found out who’d become his Lois Lane. The answer arrived on Sunday: Amy Adams will be play the Daily Planet reporter and Superman love interest . In a statement, Snyder called Adams “one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today.” That’s hardly an overstatement: The 36-year-old star has performed in indies and blockbusters, musicals and animated fare, solemn dramas and bawdy comedies. Along the way she’s managed to earn three Oscar nominations, the latest for her supporting turn last year in “The Fighter.” A former Hooters waitress, Adams made her debut in 1999’s “Drop Dead Gorgeous” as a dim and cheerful beauty-pageant contestant. Supporting roles on the big and small screen followed, but her next step up the Hollywood food chain didn’t arrive until Steven Spielberg cast her as Leonardo DiCaprio’s love interest in 2002’s “Catch Me If You Can.” While things were undoubtedly going well for the actress, she then took a step back from the spotlight over the next few years and only fully resurfaced in very unlikely fashion. “June Bug,” a sort of “Meet the Parents” for the art-house crowd that starred Adams as a wide-eyed gal named Ashley who’s days away from giving birth and seemingly miles away from planet earth, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2005. The performance won her a special jury prize for acting — and a year later she earned her first Oscar nod for the part. The decision to avoid mainstream fare turned out to be just what Adams’ career needed. “If you love the project, you love the project, and you could be making millions of dollars and have millions of dollars to spend or no money to spend and making no money,” Adams told us at the time . “But it’s about the script and it’s about the people and it’s about the story.” From there she began mixing studio pictures (“Talladega Nights”) with indie roles (“Sunshine Cleaning”), and ended up wowing critics and audiences in “Enchanted,” a film that managed to breathe new life into movie musicals while at the same time paying deep respect to the genre. There was also a short but satisfying arc on “The Office” as Jim Halpert’s (John Krasinski) handbag-slinging girlfriend. By the start of 2009, Adams would earn her second Oscar nod — this one for playing a 1960s-era nun in “Doubt” — and yet she couldn’t quite get used to the idea that she was indeed a movie star. “You see yourself onscreen, or you see pictures of yourself, and it can get really heady. I don’t think human beings are supposed to look at themselves that much,” she said in a 2009 Allure interview , adding that she used to think of herself as “homely” and “painfully small, short, with too much blue eye shadow because I thought, ‘It matches my eyes, so why not?’ ” Perhaps by now, following her third Oscar honor, she’s more comfortable with the notion of celebrity. Hopefully. Because her star is about to rise to a whole new level. There’s her turn as Jason Segel’s girlfriend in “The Muppets,” set to premiere later this year, and she wrapped production last year on “On the Road” opposite Kristen Stewart. In addition, she’s attached to play Janis Joplin in a big-screen biopic . But none of that will compare to the exposure the new “Superman” movie will bring her when it premieres in December 2012. Snyder, for one, couldn’t be happier with the choice. “Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois,” he said. “[S]mart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.” What’s your favorite Amy Adams performance?
