Ke$ha Named Billboard Artist of the Year

It’s hard to believe, but Ke$ha has only been part of the pop culture consciousness for a year. This singer’s first hit, “Tik Tok,” hit number-one in January. It was then followed by three more smashes, as well as 1.1 million copies sold of the album “Animal.” For these reasons and more, Billboard Magazine has named Ke$ha its Artist of the Year. [Photos: Splash News] How does Ke$ha feel about this honor and her meteoric rise in general? She told the publication: “I pretty much feel like I’ve been reborn into this completely different existence. My entire life has become making music and playing shows, and I love it. I’ve accepted the fact that my fans are now my family.” Think Ke$ha deserves this honor? Ponder that question as you check out a video of her and her friends covering a Rolling Stones classic below.

Selena Gomez on Justin Bieber Breakfast Date: Just Pancakes!

When is breakfast at IHOP more than just a chance to catch up over some deliciously greasy fare? When it involves two of the world’s most popular pop singers. Indeed, the Internet has been buzzing over the supposed date Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber went on late last week, as the two were seen all cute and cozy at the aforementioned establishment. Can we officially dub these two “Jelena?” Not exactly, Gomez says. “It was just pancakes! Oh my gosh!” she exclaimed to Us Weekly , adding in an interview with MTV: “Who doesn’t like pancakes? We were both performing in the same place so we went and had pancakes together. That’s all it is. All innocent.” Well… that’s no fun. Selena does admit that she’s close to Bieber, but not in the way many have been believing. “I love Justin. When he first started to come over from Canada his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid… I feel like a big sister now, ’cause I want to protect him.”

B.o.B’s ‘Don’t Let Me Fall’ Video Premieres

T.I. makes an appearance in trippy new clip. By Paul Cantor B.o.B in his music video for “Don’t Let Me Fall” Photo: Atlantic B.o.B’s new video for “Don’t Let Me Fall,” the fourth clip from the Atlanta rapper’s debut LP, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, premiered midnight Tuesday (November 16) on MTV.com. The video was directed by Ethan Lander, who also manned the lens for B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You,” and was shot in downtown Denver and at Red Rocks Park and Ampitheatre. The clip weaves in footage from B.o.B’s humble beginnings and follows him as he rises up the ranks in rap’s food chain. Supporters, from manager TJ Chapman to T.I., who executive-produced B.o.B’s debut LP and released it on his Grand Hustle imprint, are also included in the footage. It’s appropriate, considering the song is a “thank you” of sorts to those who’ve supported him. The lyrics find B.o.B singing, “Well it was just a dream, just a moment ago/ I was up so high, lookin’ down at the sky, don’t let me fall/ I was shooting for stars on a Saturday night/ They say, ‘What goes up must come down’/ But don’t let me fall.” The video opens with B.o.B sitting upright on a bench, which seems to be lying on the floor. The world is moving around him, as if he’s fallen. Throughout the video, the aforementioned early clips play on an old tube television sitting next to the rapper. B.o.B recites his lines in performance shots set against the rocky terrain of Red Rocks Park and in the open space of the amphitheater. Later, he’s shown hanging sideways from a parking meter on the sidewalk. People walking by fall around him, but he’s unable to get up on his own. In the final verse, a band joins him, and they’re all lying horizontally on the sidewalk, playing the song with B.o.B strumming a guitar. At the end of the video, he stands upright of his own accord and walks away. Last month, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust voted B.o.B. the #9 Hottest MC in the Game . Kanye West Debuts New Song At VMAs

MC toasts ‘scumbags’ and ‘douche bags’ in new song from forthcoming album. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kanye West performs during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage As MTV Video Music Awards host Chelsea Handler put it, Kanye West was the “big, black elephant in the room” at this year’s show. Following a long and well-documented history of awards-show rants, Kanye’s return to the VMAs was a much-buzzed-about event. And West knew it. Instead of completely avoiding the controversy of last year’s VMAs, Yeezy turned the event into fodder for his new track, which he debuted at the close of the show. Funnyman Aziz Ansari sent up the “I’mma let you finish” debacle by yukking it up on a phone call from “Jersey Shore” castmember Ronnie but tossing to West’s performance. The MC walked to the middle of the stage alone, sporting a fire-engine-red suit and gold chains, to a white MPC on a pedestal. West then punched out a few notes from his new song , the companion film for which viewers got a peek at during the pre-show, in the center of the black-and-white stage. A trio of dancers dashed onstage carrying beige scarves before West picked up the mic and began to spit. “I always find something wrong/ You been putting up with my sh– way too long,” the MC rhymed, presumably referring to his various headline-hogging outbursts. “I’m so gifted at finding what I don’t like the most.” Then ‘Ye, who has weathered an outsize amount of criticism, dedicated the performance to his mother and let loose. “Let’s have a toast for the douchebags/ Let’s have a toast for the a–holes/ Let’s have a toast for scumbags,” West sang. The MC then dished out advice to listeners who may be dealing with the aforementioned “bags.” “I got a plan/ Run away as fast as you can.” West collaborator and Clipse MC Pusha T then hit the stage, channeling “Miami Vice”-cool in a mauve blazer as the trio of dancers posed on the side. “I’m just young, rich and tasteless,” Push spit. For many, the performance can be seen as major turning point in ‘Ye’s career. The producer and lyricist has spent the past year grappling with the downward turn of his public persona and retreated from the spotlight. Yeezy returned with the epic track “Power,” got back into the awards-show game at the link BET Awards and previewed new music for tech tastemakers in intimate workplace performances. And of course, he joined Twitter, typing out an entertaining and candid stream of missives, including an apology to Taylor Swift ( Swift, for her part, also referenced the mic-grabbing business in her own VMA performance). After rhyming the chorus once again, switching up his vocals with a reverb effect, West closed the performance on a triumphant note. The crowd chanted “Kanye!” as a curtain of pyro rained down onto the stage. What did you think of Kanye West’s VMA performance? Sound off in the comments below! Newt Gingrich Makes An Islamic Extremist Recruitment Video

In a straight-to-DVD movie that will premiere tomorrow night in D.C., Newt Gingrich and Citizens United warn Americans of the impending threat of radical Islam. As one of their talking heads says in the trailer, “This is the end of times. This is the final struggle.” The movie, called “America At Risk,” paints the world as a dangerous place filled with radicalized Muslims who want to — and, importantly, can — destroy America. “The war on terror, and the ideology behind it, have only just begun,” Gingrich's wife, Callista Gingrich, intones while she and Gingrich stand in front of a green-screened New York skyline. Here's the trailer: If it looks familiar, that's because it's extremely similar to movies by the Clarion Fund, the nonprofit which produced “The Third Jihad” and “Obsession.” The latter, sent to 30 million homes during the 2008 election( http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/08/_obsession_and_the_cordoba_hou… ), helped plant the seeds of the current spate of anti-mosque protests and anti-Muslim rhetoric. It has the same themes (immediate threat of death by Islam), the same shots of terrorist attacks and scary “death to America” rallies, and many of the same people, like M. Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim doctor from Arizona, and Bernard Lewis, a Princeton professor and sounce of the aforementioned “final struggle” line. “America At Risk” goes on the attack against the Obama administration much more than the Clarion movies, however, calling it “crazy” that the administration doesn't say “Islam” enough when discussing the war on terror. Former White House Chief of Staff and current presidential candidacy hinter-at John Bolton, notably, appears. “Washington refuses to tell the truth about the war we are fighting,” reads one press release. In the lead-up to his movie's release (now available for $19.95 on pre-order), Gingrich has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the Park51 Islamic center in downtown Manhattan. He has demanded the government step in and stop the “mosque” from being built. He has called its backers “radical Islamists” and likened them to Nazis. He suggested America be more like Saudi Arabia( http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/gingrich_on_ground_zero_mosque… ), which doesn't allow Christian churches. And so forth. Kanye West Bashes Bush While Apologizing To Taylor Swift On Twitter

Rap star Kanye West bashed former President George W. Bush on Saturday while apologizing to country singer Taylor Swift for his appalling behavior at last year’s MTV Video Awards. Our story begins with West making a fool of himself – again! – when he interrupted Swift last September during her acceptance speech for best female music video of 2009 (right). With the 2010 Awards quickly approaching, West must have felt it necessary to make amends. As People.com reported moments ago, West took to Twitter early Saturday morning issuing a bizarre stream of consciousness apology: “I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that’s so beautiful and I want her to have it,” he said on his Twitter Saturday morning. “If she won’t take it then I’ll perform it for her.” West’s actual Twitter account doesn’t show any of these tweets. However, the People links do indicate the activity being reported suggesting West has since taken them down: Nearly a year since he first apologized to Swift, the hip-hop artist is still offering up I’m sorries, calling her “justa lil girl with dreams like the rest of us” on his Twitter . “She deserves the apology more than anyone,” he Tweeted , before thanking the creators of Twitter for making a public platform for expression.   ” We’re both artist[s] and the media and managers are trying to get between us. Everyone wants to capitalize off this [in] some way.”  Maybe even more delicious, MTV.com reported some other tweets People missed: Expounding on the backlash he received, he wrote, “If you Google a–hole my face may very well pop up 2 pages into the search. … There are people who don’t dislike me … they absolutely hate me. People tweeted that they wish I was dead … No listen. They wanted me to die, people. I carry that.” I was indeed hoping his face would appear in such a Google search. Unfortunately, no. But I digress: Kanye went on to say that the media vilified him. He alluded to his claim during a 2005 NBC telethon for Hurricane Katrina that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” as a point for which the media was looking to pay him back. He noted that in the VMA aftermath, the media played the race card and turned it into an angry black man versus innocent white girl issue. “Even though the NBC telethon was widely praised y’all didn’t think they was just gone let me get away with that did y’all???!!!” he questioned, rhetorically. “The media has successfully diminished the ‘receptive’ audience of… KANYE WEST. …taking a 15 second blip the media have successfully painted the image of the ‘ANGRY BLACK MAN.’ The King Kong theory. With the help of strong will, a lack of empathy, a lil alcohol and extremely distasteful & bad timing … I became George Bush over night.” I was wondering when he’d take to bashing Bush. For those that have forgotten, this was West during the aforementioned Hurricane Katrina telethon in September 2005: I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they’re looting. See a white family, it says they’re looking for food. And you know that it’s been five days because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I’ve tried to turn away from the TV, because it’s too hard to watch. I’ve even been shopping before I’ve even given a donation. So now I’m calling my business manager right now to see what is the biggest amount I can give, and just to imagine if I was down there, and those are my people down there. So anybody out there that wants to do anything that we can help with the set up the way America is set up to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible. I mean, the Red Cross is doing everything they can. We already realize a lot of people that could help are at war right now, fighting another way, and they have given them permission to go down and shoot us…George Bush doesn’t care about black people. Makes one wonder how much alcohol and “extremely distasteful & bad timing” it took for West to again make an “a–hole” of himself. Actually, it should now be apparent that this isn’t that difficult for him.
