Protests have taken place across Spain calling for the release of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who is facing extradition from the UK to Sweden for alleged sexual offences. Hundreds of people gathered outside the British embassy in Madrid calling for him to be freed. Wikileaks is publishing insights from hundreds of thousands of sensitive US diplomatic and military documents. The demonstrators believe Mr Assange's detention is politically motivated. The whistle-blowing website has angered and embarrassed governments around the world through its publication in recent weeks of classified US diplomatic cables. Mr Assange was detained in London on Tuesday after Sweden secured an international warrant for his arrest. Prosecutors in Sweden say they want to question him in connection with the sexual offence allegations. He was refused bail by a British court and has said he will fight extradition. There have also been calls from some in the US for his arrest and prosecution on charges related directly to Wikileaks' activity. Sensitive issue While supporters online have mounted cyber-protests against Mr Assange's detention, Saturday's protests were some of the first street demonstrations in support of Wikileaks. Wearing face masks associated with the “Anonymous” group of hackers – which launched cyber attacks after Mr Assange's arrest in the UK – the crowd in Madrid shouted for his freedom, outside the vast glass tower that houses the British embassy Many of the demonstrators were angry at some of the revelations in the cables, says the BBC's Sarah Rainsford in Madrid. These include the suggestion Spain came under pressure to stop a criminal investigation into the killing of Jose Couso, a Spanish cameraman who died when American soldiers fired a tank round into his hotel in Baghdad. The Free Wikileaks website, which organised the demonstrations, said protests were also planned for other Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Valencia and Seville. It called for the full restoration of Wikileaks' website, which was denied hosting services by Amazon after the first of the leaked cables were published two weeks ago. The protest organisers also demanded that Visa and MasterCard restore credit card services because, it said, no one had proven Mr Assange's guilt. ‘We love each other a lot, and I think we’re sad this is coming to an end,’ she tells MTV News of her ‘Twilight’ castmates. By Kara Warner Nikki Reed Photo: MTV News With “Breaking Dawn” set to start filming sometime this fall, it’s only a matter of time until the “Twilight Saga” wraps up for good. So when Nikki Reed stopped by MTV News recently to talk about her upcoming indie film “Last Day of Summer,” we had to ask the actress what she’s looking forward to most when production begins on “Dawn,” the series’ two-part finale. “Just seeing everyone again,” she said. “We’ve been making these [movies] for a couple of years now, and this year seems to have gone by really fast.” Aside from the press campaigns surrounding “Eclipse,” Reed said she and her co-stars haven’t seen each other as frequently as in recent years, given their suddenly in-demand status. “We’ve all gone off and had other jobs,” she explained, adding that it is very different from a couple of years ago after the first film was released. “I found after the first ‘Twilight’ movie, we were all sitting around L.A., going ‘Hey, aren’t we supposed to work a lot? Isn’t this supposed to open doors?’ We’ve spent a lot of time together [in the past], and in this past year, I haven’t really seen anybody.” Reed said she’s most excited to be reunited with her “family” again. “Just going back to being with the family, because we love each other a lot, and I think we’re sad this is coming to an end,” she said. ‘It’s plotted out in my mind’s eye,’ Sly says of possible follow-up to bloodthirsty box-office champ. By Eric Ditzian Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone in “The Expendables” Photo: Millennium Films When MTV News caught up with Sylvester Stallone at Comic-Con in late July, he professed more than a little nervousness about the possible fate of “The Expendables” at the box office . While Sly had hopes to shoot a sequel to his bombs-and-brawn throwback to ’80s action blockbusters, he wasn’t sure how everything would shake out and what his next project would be. “It all depends on how this film does,” he told us in San Diego. “Next thing might be directing at a parking lot, or it might be a film.” Now, it seems Stallone just might get the chance to shoot an “Expendables” sequel, after the first one opened to $35 million in ticket sales over the weekend. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter following the movie’s big opening, Stallone said he knows exactly the direction a sequel would take. “It’s plotted out in my mind’s eye,” he said. “I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can’t become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges.” It was a challenge as well for Sly even to get “Expendables” made. He credited “Rambo” producer Avi Lerner for getting the flick a green light and called making “Expendables” one of his most satisfying Hollywood experiences. “My proudest moment ever was not ‘Rocky,’ it was the last Rocky picture, ‘Rocky Balboa,’ ” he said. “To be able to meet the challenge of completing that series after all these years, that was great. But this one here tops that — not in an emotional way but for excitement. This should have never happened. Avi Lerner really took a big gamble on me with this when nobody else would. I know because I heard about it every day!
