So You Think You Can Dance Elimination: Tapped Out

Well, that was a world of suspense. SYTYCD ‘s judges booted tapper Melinda Sullivan last night, not a day after Mia Michaels snarked, “We made a mistake last week and should’ve eliminated you.” Nigel Lythgoe at least pretended the technically imperfect Melinda had a chance at survival and refrained from saying, “At this point we just need to shoot the rabid greyhound in the face, Melinda, if you will. Sorry, dear.” Oh, Melinda. You weren’t going to outshine Billy Bell or Robert Roldan in the dance-off, not with a tap or a hoof or a prayer. But you were a phenomenal dancer, just like your ancient, awesome mentor said — and according to the video we’ve posted after the jump, you apparently had a lot of you could’ve taught us.

Elena Kagan Grilled on Critical Judicial Matter of Edward vs. Jacob

In her confirmation hearings this week, Supreme Court hopeful Elena Kagan has presented herself as an even-handed and experienced arbiter of our nation’s Constitution. And while we may know slightly more about her judicial point of view on such delicate social issues as abortion and gay marriage, only today did Kagan face the most important, polarizing question to date: Team Jacob or Team Edward? Video after the jump.

Regis Philbin Accidentally Outs David Copperfield as an Illusionist Hack at the Daytime Emmys

Let’s be honest about one thing: You did not watch yesterday’s 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Ceremony. You might have tuned in if James Franco had been nominated for his scene-stealing arc on General Hospital and you would have at least TiVo’d the Las Vegas event had you known that host Regis Philbin would accidentally disprove David Copperfield’s entire career during the first 10 minutes of the telecast. But you did not, so relive the night’s most exciting and incriminating moment after the jump — and congratulate the newest Daytime Emmy winners while you’re at it.

Have You Ever Seen A Grown Man Naked?: Celebrating 30 Years of Airplane!

It seems unfathomable that we once lived in a world where we were deprived of Ethel Merman playing a doped-up PTSD -afflicted soldier who thinks he’s Ethel Merman, or the mom from Leave it to Beaver sliding some smooth jive-talking on the brothers, or watching Lloyd Bridges pick the wrong day to stop sniffing glue. But fortunately, Airplane! came along some 30 years ago and comedy has never been the same. Like the rapid-fire gags you see on The Simpsons and American Dad ? Enjoy the so-dumb-it’s-hilarious jokes of the Farrelly Brothers? Appreciate the fact that Leslie Nielsen is best known now for his screwball comedies rather than his stodgy black and white dramas? Thank Airplane! for all of the above. After the jump, enjoy my favorite scene and the original trailer from one of the funniest movies ever made.

Farting Man-Boy, Elaborate Serial Killer and Bono Among New Oscar Voters

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — a group so white, old and out-of-touch you’d think you’re at a Republican convention — has decided perhaps more people would watch their dog and pony show if their choices were a little more hip. In an effort to pump fresh plasma into their dusty veins, the AMPAS has inducted a whole slew of new Academy members. Among the rarefied few are Adam Sandler, Christoph Waltz, Tobin Bell of Saw infamy, along with some much needed non-white, non-male voices like Mo’Nique, Zoe Saldana and Gabourey Sidibe. On the other side of the camera, noted-Miley Cyrus despoiler Adam Shankman is on the list, as are Bono and The Edge, and Christian Bale’s favorite cinematographer , Shane “f*cking distracting!” Hurlbut. Check out the full 135-person list after the jump.
