Flo Rida Talks Sampling Tupac On Only One Flo

‘I’m a big fan of his,’ Flo says of flipping ‘Pac’s ‘Hail Mary’ for his ladies’ jam ‘Come With Me.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Flo Rida Photo: MTV News On the surface Flo Rida and Tupac may not appear to have much in common, but the chart-topping rappers both had an affinity for Las Vegas. The late ‘Pac spent considerable time there as part of Suge Knight’s entourage and Flo relocated to Sin City before making it as an artist. Now, the pair are bound by music as Flo sampled Shakur’s hit “Hail Mary” for his track “Come With Me.” “That’s a record that’s on the romantic side, for the ladies,” Flo Rida told MTV News of the track, which appears on his most recent release, Only One Flo, Part 1. “It’s crazy to look at the credits and everything and have Tupac as one of the writers [on the album]. I’m a big fan of his and I was trying to take it up to the next level with this album.” Shakur’s “Hail Mary” was a taunting, slow-burning effort from his first posthumous offering, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, which was released under the alias Makaveli. For “Come With Me,” Flo flips the haunting chorus into an upbeat chant about pursuing a young lady. “She wanna come with me,” the hook begins. “Lil mama wanna run quick, see/ What do we have here now/ Now do you wanna ride or die tonight, la da da da, la da da da.” “I never got to meet him or see him perform,” Flo said of the homage. “I just been a big fan of him doing his thing and me purchasing his albums or going online and watching the crazy shows.” What do you think of Flo sampling Tupac? Joe Jonas Makes a Cameo on Top Chef

Joe Jonas will guest star on tomorrow night’s episode of Top Chef . It’s unclear why. To the best of our knowledge, the singer may sizzle in magazine spreads, but he isn’t an expert with a frying pan. Still, the following tease of his appearance on the Bravo hit does offer the humorous reaction of contestant Dale Talde, who mistakes the middle Jonas Brother for a pastry chef: “I have no idea who Joe Jonas is,” he tells the camera. Diddy-Dirty Money ‘Sorry’ For Delaying The Last Train

‘To be honest, we weren’t ready,’ Diddy tells MTV News of December 14 LP. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Ricky Louis Diddy-Dirty Money Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images The train is almost here! After a series of delays, Diddy-Dirty Money are finally set to release their album Last Train to Paris on December 14. The Bad Boy Records CEO apologized for the number of setbacks, but said the project is finally ready. The album’s various release dates go as far back as September 2009, but the mogul says there was a reason for the changes. “The wait is over,” Diddy told MTV News. “We pushed our album back a bunch of times because we felt, to be honest, we weren’t ready. I think a lot of times artists make that mistake. They get locked into a date and they’re like, ‘Well, I told everybody my date was this.’ “And it’s not fair to change your date four times like we did,” he continued. “We’re sorry. But at the same time, we had to get to know each other better. We had more work to do to jell. We had to do different things on the album to make it more balanced and really finish the story the right way, not the selfish way. We feel comfortable now that we’re telling the story in the way it’s supposed to be told.” Currently, Diddy and company are enjoying success with two tracks, the Drake-assisted “Loving You No More” and “Coming Home,” which the group performed over the weekend on “Saturday Night Live.” Formerly of Danity Kane, Dirty Money singer Dawn Richard talked about the long-delayed project that includes a range of stars from Justin Timberlake and Lil Wayne to Chris Brown.

Justin Bieber Cancels German TV Appearance After Stunt Accident

Singer apologizes to fans for postponing after man was injured jumping over a car in stilts. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber (file) Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty Images A TV appearance in Germany by Justin Bieber was canceled on Saturday night after a stunt went drastically wrong during the live broadcast. Grammy nominee Bieber was slated to sing live on the popular German show “Wetten Dass..?” but had to pull the plug just before he took the stage because 23-year-old Samuel Koch was severely injured while attempting to jump over a moving vehicle. Bieber tweeted to his fans about the incident, writing, “Just want to let my people in Germany know I won’t be on ‘Wetten Dass..?’ tonight as an accident has taken place and we all don’t think it is right to continue. … Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety. I’m sorry we couldn’t perform tonight but some things are more important than putting on a show.” Koch, who was wearing spring-powered stilts known as “powerbocks,” failed in his attempt to jump over the car, which was being driven by his father, according to BBC News . The daredevil underwent surgery on Sunday after suffering multiple back injuries and fractures. While he was reported to be in an “extremely critical stage,” his condition was not believed to life-threatening after the surgery. “Wetten Dass..?” (which translates to “Wanna Bet?”) has been on the air for nearly 30 years and draws an audience of about 10 million viewers a week. U.K. superstar Robbie Williams and former Genesis drummer Phil Collins were also slated to be on Saturday night’s episode of the show. T.I. Shows ‘No Mercy’ In Video Premiere

Pensive title track from upcoming album features The-Dream. By Gil Kaufman T.I. in his video for “No Mercy” T.I. won’t be around this week to celebrate the release of his new album, No Mercy due to his 11-month prison stint on a probation violation, but the King of the South left behind an emotionally gripping clip to tide fans over. The video for the album’s title track opens with a trenchcoat-and-sunglasses-wearing Tip solemnly getting out of his black Ferrari in front of a church while the song’s majestic piano intro plays behind him. As he removes his shades to enter the house of worship and put his hands together in prayer, the grinding guitar-infused track heats up, and we see images of the rapper and The-Dream standing against an ethereal, “magic hour” sunset. The theme of redemption and transgression is quickly slammed home as Dream croons “There’s no mercy for me/ No crying myself to sleep … good morning, reality,” in front of a stained-glass window with bright sunlight streaming through it. Cutting between scenes of him sitting in the pews, standing in the church aisle and reciting his lyrics on a hilltop, Tip looks alternately relaxed and humble over the course of the bare-bones performance clip. As will likely be the case with many of the lyrics on the album, T.I.’s verses take on an ironic twist in light of the fact that he is currently back in prison. Recorded after his release from a year-long sentence earlier this year, tied to his 2007 felony gun possession charge, No Mercy drops on Tuesday as the rapper sits in the same prison, serving an 11-month sentence for violating his probation. “Trapped in a vicious circle/ Jesus’ youngest disciple/ Tell the judge if he throwed the book at me/ Make it the bible,” he raps at the outset of the song. After later comparing himself to late rapper Tupac Shakur — who also released an album while incarcerated — and noting how much fans missed the star once he was gone, T.I. adds, “Hindsight 20/20/ Future not as clear/ But I’m a rider til I die.” The fade out comes as The-Dream croons the song’s angelic chorus again, and the pair take turns standing in front of the shimmering stained glass window while pensively looking out from behind dark shades. Slim Thug Balances H-Town And Mainstream In Tha Thug Show

‘I think I did a good job of mixing it up,’ the Houston rapper says of his latest album. By Jayson Rodriguez Slim Thug Photo: MTV News Slim Thug thinks he might have veered too far left on his debut album, 2005’s Already Platinum. And the follow up, last year’s Boss of All Bosses might have shot off to the right a bit too much. But for his latest salvo, Tha Thug Show, released this week, the Texas titan said he hit right on the mark. “My aim for this album was to give the fans the Already Platinum feel and my second album and even it out,” he told MTV News. “The response I’ve been getting has been good. But my first album was kind of mainstream with all the Pharrell stuff, but the people of Houston felt like they didn’t get enough of the old Slim Thug. And then on Boss of All Bosses, I gave them nothing but H-Town. [ Laughs. ] But on this one, I wanted to give them half and half, and I think I did a good job of mixing it up.” The project features collaborations with B.o.B (“So High”), Yo Gotti, Nipsey Hussle, Big K.R.I.T. and Rick Ross. Ross and Slim Thug were involved in a minor dispute over the summer via Twitter over their shared nickname, “Boss,” and a dated Ross record that leaked. But the pair patched things up and released “Paid the Coast” as a sign of solidarity between the rappers. “For a record to surface and me being a little slow on Twitter, I didn’t really peep it until two days later,” Ross told MTV News at the time. “When I found out about it and heard about it, they said I’m dissing Slim Thug. ” ‘What’s the name of the record? “King Boss”?’ ” he remembered asking. “I never had a record called ‘King Boss.’ I just left it alone. After the fact, [Slim] asked me about it. I told the homie, ‘Of course it ain’t nothing but love between me and you, big dawg.’ We got in the studio later that night. The night we spoke. I e-mailed him something; shot him something, did something for his album. It’s fire. Then I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters.” Related Artists Slim Thug

Weezer Revisit Pinkerton At Second Of Two Shows In San Francisco

Band performed 1994’s Blue Album at previous night’s show. By Matt Elias Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo performs in San Francisco on Monday Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Halfway into Weezer ‘s set on Tuesday night, frontman Rivers Cuomo was sprawled out onstage, basking in the overwhelming sense of adoration in the room. It was night two of Weezer’s Memories Tour stop in San Francisco, at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, and the band started with a 10-song set followed by their 1996 sophomore effort Pinkerton in its entirety (night one saw Weezer play its entire Blue album ). As loose and energetic as the previous night, Weezer’s second engagement was a nod to die-hard Weezer fans. The set included some rarities like 1995’s “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” and “Susanne.” Band members shared vocal duties throughout the set — guitarist Brian Bell took over on “Pork and Beans” and bassist Scott Shriner on “Dope Nose.” And as he did the night before, drummer Pat Wilson donned a guitar during the first part of the set, with drummer Josh Freese taking over percussion duties. The fans also took part in the action. Rivers invited a trio of fans decked out in homemade Weezer Ts onstage for the rest of the audience to see. At another point, Rivers spotted a fan waving a homemade W flag and invited him onstage. They stretched it out for all to see, and Rivers then displayed it on the drum riser. When he wasn’t inviting fans onstage, Rivers Cuomo was running through the audience, high-fiving fans and climbing on theater seats. No one was left untouched — not even the venue staff. During “Hash Pipe,” Cuomo yanked a beanie off a petite female staffer, plopped it on his head for a bit, then stretched it out onto a beefy security guard’s dome. Intermission followed and Weezer’s unofficial fifth member, Karl Koch, helmed a slide show (just like on the first night), showing off gems from Weezer’s early days. The crowd swooned at the sight of one of Weezer’s first fliers from 1992, a photo of the band with Spike Jonze during the Pinkerton recordings, and also shared a collective laugh at a Rolling Stone magazine clipping that declared Pinkerton the second-worst album of 1996 (just behind Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase ). When it was time for the Pinkerton set, the album’s cover art hung in the background, Pat returned to his drum kit and Rivers returned sans glasses (and not looking much different than he did during his Pinkerton days). The band ripped through the album’s 10 songs, garnering even more sing-alongs than the previous night. Those in attendance were definitely a dedicated bunch. The feeling was mutual. On “El Scorcho,” Brian gestured to the crowd during the lyrics “I’m a lot like you,” summing up the sentiment of the night. As the rest of the band left the stage, Rivers closed out the show with his acoustic guitar on “Butterfly” (and Karl took a stab at drumming). As the song concluded, Rivers took one simple bow and exited the stage — capping off a splendid two-night engagement of the Memories Tour. Related Artists Weezer

Gaga broke the news to fan site Lady-Gaga.net that Born This Way ‘s first single will drop in February, and added that the album is like “bad kids going to church, having fun on a high level.” “I miss you guys so much,” Gaga said in a video posted on the website. “Thank you for all of your support and I cannot wait to play you Born This Way. It is killing me.” Gaga recently told a crowd in Poland , where she was on her Monster Ball Tour, that the album will be “the greatest album of this decade.” “I promise you, I’ll never let you down. And not for nothing: The album’s finished and it’s f—ing really good,” Gaga said from the stage. While no release date has been set for the album, there has been much discussion from her camp about what this album will sound like. Her manager has said it’s “incredible,” while her label boss, Akon, explained that Gaga is taking things to the “next level” with this album. “If I was going to compare it to her previous work, I would definitely say it’s a notch up,” he said. “It’s like she’s slowly taking you on to this journey down this road. If she were to just drastically do it, she probably would have lost everybody from the first album, but once the sound was created and established, now we can use that as a tool to grab all the monsters and walk them down this graveyard. It’s crazy. It’s amazing.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Will Be ‘Greatest Album Of This Decade’

Singer also says there may be up to 20 new songs on the new album. By James Dinh Lady Gaga Photo: Paul Morigi/ WireImage It has been months since Lady Gaga first started hyping her forthcoming album, Born This Way , and the pop visionary recently raised the stakes. During a Monster Ball tour performance in Poland on Friday, the always bold singer promised fans that she’d deliver “the greatest album of this decade,” with possibly up to 20 new tracks. She also revealed that Born This Way doesn’t follow current trends. “I promise you, I’ll never let you down. And not for nothing: The album’s finished and it’s f—ing really good,” Gaga tearfully told the audience , who simultaneous held up signs that read “Born This Way” backward. “So whatever this is, whatever you just did for all of us … I promise to give you the greatest album of this decade, just for you.” The singer, who is prepping a promotional campaign for the album, also touched base on what sounds like a possible dig at her pop competitors, saying, “The funny thing is that some people have reduced freedom to a brand. They think that it’s trendy now to be free. They think it’s trendy to be excited about your identity. When in truth, there is nothing trendy about Born This Way . ” Describing the new album as “a spirit” and “this connection that we all share,” the pop star confessed that her new music “is something so much deeper than a wig or lipstick or an outfit, or a f—ing meat dress. … Born This Way is about what keeps us up at night and what makes us afraid.” Gaga isn’t the only who has been talking up the new material, as everyone from the singer’s manager , Akon , Elton John and Monster Ball opening act Semi Precious Weapons have also gushed about the album. While the songstress told the crowd that the LP will consist of mostly “f—ing sledge-hammering dance,” she’s still unsure of the length of Born This Way, but plans to give fans as much music as possible. “I’m still deciding, the album could be longer than you would imagine … I’m not sure,” she said. “I can’t decide, really, because I think that times are different, you know. It used to be kind of a faux pas to put out too much music on your album, but I feel like you guys deserve all of the records I do, ’cause I work hard on them. So who knows, you might get, like, 20 new Gaga songs .” Do you think Gaga’s new album will live up to her promise? Share your thoughts in the comments.
