Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic: A Cheat Sheet

Get the scoop on the singer’s latest album, out Black Friday. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images On Black Friday, the year’s busiest shopping day by far, Justin Bieber will release his album, My Worlds Acoustic. It will feature one new track, “Pray,” as well as acoustic reinterpretations of some of Bieber’s biggest songs from his first two LPs, My World and My World 2.0. While fans have gotten the chance to hear “Pray” as well as acoustic teases of “Favorite Girl” (when he stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show this month) and “Never Say Never,” his musical director, Dan Kanter, tweeted what the rest of the album will sound like, saying , “Loving the percussion… Cajones and congas! Definitely an influence from our travels around the world!” As for “Pray,” Bieber has said he was inspired by a track from the King of Pop himself. “It’s a very uplifting song, very motivational,” he said. “It definitely comes from the heart. It’s very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson’s] ‘Man in the Mirror’ when I was writing it.” The album, which also features “One Time,” “Baby,” “One Less Lonely Girl, “Down to Earth,” “U Smile,” “Stuck in the Moment” and “That Should Be Me,” was recorded because Bieber wanted to silence his critics . “I really think that I did an acoustic album because there’s a lot of haters out there that say, ‘Justin Bieber can’t sing. His voice is all Auto-Tuned,’ ” he said. “And there’s a lot with production, it kind of drowns out your voice, and it takes away from the singer, over the synths and everything. “I think kind of stripping it down,” he added, “and having it kind of really mellow and being able to hear my voice is why I wanted to do it.” Will you be picking up Bieber’s latest on Black Friday? Like most high-profile awards shows, there were showstopping performances, off-the-runway fashion and emotional moments. Unlike most trophy fests, the AMA winners aren’t determined by the inner circle of music-industry professionals, but rather the fans who plunk down cash for hit records. This year, fans handed over pyramids to the artists who also cranked out many of the biggest hits. Justin Bieber made off with the most AMA booty, nabbing four trophies. Taylor Swift, Rihanna, the Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and Bieber’s mentor Usher also snagged AMA loot. Pusha T Promises Next Clipse LP Is ‘Gonna Be Mean’

On ‘RapFix Live,’ G.O.O.D. Music signee says duo are making street music: ‘We’re doing the album that we wanna do.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pusha T Photo: Sohyung Kang/MTV News Now that the Clipse’s Pusha T is a part of the G.O.O.D. Music family as a solo artist, the pressure to deliver as a group appears to have subsided. The Virginia Beach MC and his brother Malice have long railed against record labels for freedom when it comes to their Clipse projects, blaming execs for stalling on release dates and handcuffing them creatively. But for the next Brothers Thornton LP, Pusha said the duo’s music will be as dark and uncompromising as ever. “I can say that it’s gonna strictly be for the Clipse purist,” Push told Sway during an appearance on “RapFix Live” on Thursday (November 18). We’re throwing around a title. But it’s gonna be mean, for sure. We’re doing the album that we wanna do.” Their last album, Til the Casket Drops, was released last year to much critical acclaim in the same vein as their past efforts. The Neptunes prot

Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Is Nearly Finished, ‘Almost Perfect’

‘It won’t be much longer, it’s almost perfect. But I (we) don’t want almost,’ Gaga tweets about forthcoming album. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images By now, you are probably aware that Lady Gaga’s upcoming Born This Way album is “incredible,” “shocking,” “bold and beautiful,” “utter liberation,” and, of course, “crazy amazing.” But what you might not have known is that it is finally, totally, completely finished. Almost. That’s according to Gaga herself, who took to her Twitter account on Wednesday to announce that she’s nearly wrapped production on Born, and that her little monsters’ long wait is just about over. Unless she’s not satisfied with every last detail, of course. “Endless melodies, hooks [and] poetry sledge-hammering my skull,” she tweeted . “It won’t be much longer, it’s almost perfect. But I (we) don’t want almost.” Of course, there’s still no release date (tentative or otherwise) for Born This Way, though Gaga has been playing songs from the album — like “You And I” and “Living on the Radio” — since the summer, and has discussed the project at length during her Monster Ball performances. In September, at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , she announced the title of the album after winning Video of the Year. Those who have heard Born This Way can’t seem to stop gushing over it. On Tuesday, MTV News caught up with Gaga’s label boss, Akon, who said the album “is definitely … a notch up” from her previous work, and that she’s “taking things to the next level.” Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter, said that he’s just starting to play music from Born for Interscope Records, and that the songs on the album are “incredible.” He also hinted that the album would be “coming soon.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Jay-Z Says Watch The Throne With Kanye West Is On ‘Another Level’

‘Decoded’ MC tells MTV News teaming up with ‘Ye for joint LP is ‘fantastic’ because he’s watched him grow. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Jay-Z has been on top of the MC heap for so long you’d think he’d be fine ruling his monarchy without outside contributions. But for his next set, Watch the Throne, Jay is making a collaborative effort with Kanye West, and the Brooklyn legend tells MTV News he’s excited about the project, especially given the “Runaway” star’s growing status as a hip-hop king. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov explained to us this week. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” The project was originally slated to be an EP, but West confirmed to MTV News in October that Watch the Throne would now be a full-length release. “We putting out a whole album now,” ‘Ye said. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay. But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” The pair ventured to France last month to record material as planned, and Jay-Z revealed he and West will head out to Australia soon to finish the rest of the album. The inspired duo recently completed seven songs in three days, according to Hov. Are you glad Jay and Kanye are teaming up for a joint album? Tell us in the comments! Rihanna Glad Avril Lavigne Appears On Loud’s ‘Cheers’

‘Cheers (Drink to That)’ ‘makes you feel like celebrating,’ Rihanna tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rihanna Photo: MTV News Rihanna isn’t afraid to share the limelight on her new album, Loud . She appears with everyone from Drake to Eminem to Nicki Minaj . But, one artist fans might be surprised to see make a cameo on the album is Avril Lavigne . Rih samples the singer’s yodel from her 2002 ballad “I’m With You” on her party anthem “Cheers (Drink to That).” “I love that song [‘Cheers’]. That is one of my favorite songs on the album. It makes you feel like celebrating,” she tells MTV News about the song. “It gives you a great feeling inside like you want to go out and have a drink. … People can’t wait for the weekend.” Sure, Rihanna has a busy schedule that doesn’t really warrant her having the weekend off, but she says she still loves them. “I work all weekend, but I still can’t wait. I still get excited about it being Friday, even though I’m not getting the weekend off,” she explains. “I got to be up at 5 a.m. on Saturday anyway. I just like the fact that it’s Friday. It’s just something that became a habit, so you get that feeling Friday night [and] it doesn’t matter what time you have to wake up on Saturday. You want to get excited about the weekend, you want to go out and have a drink with your girls, who have the weekend off.” On “Cheers,” Rih samples Lavigne, and she explains why they didn’t just have the Canadian pop singer come in and re-record the vocal for the song. “I asked the same thing, but when I heard the track, it was already embedded in the music, so the producers already had it that way,” she explains. “But it wouldn’t have made a difference. It would have sounded the same. But I’m just glad that we could use her sample, because it became such a huge part of the instrumental that if it were not to be in the song, it would change the whole vibe of the song.” What’s your favorite song on Loud ? Girl Talk Reveals His Favorite All Day Moments

Greg Gillis’ faves include his samples of Black Sabbath, Soulja Boy, Miley Cyrus and more. By James Montgomery Girl Talk Photo: Jason Merritt/ FilmMagic.com On Monday (November 15), Girl Talk brought the Internet to its knees with the out-of-nowhere release of All Day, his latest collection of whiplash-inducing, copyright-eschewing party jams. Clocking in at more than 70 minutes and featuring some 370 different samples, it’s both GT’s longest and most ambitious effort to date, which makes the fact that he gave it away for free all the more impressive. To most people, at least. “I don’t know, it doesn’t seem like all that big of a thing to me,” the producer (real name: Gregg Gillis) told MTV News on Monday, hours after All Day hit the ‘Net. “It’s always like, ‘How can I raise the bar a little bit?’ So I thought just making it free, straight-up, would do that, and would get it out there quicker. That was really the only thinking behind it.” Still, Gillis will be the first to admit that he labored longer and harder on All Day than all of the previous Girl Talk albums combined, which is why it’s understandable that he’d rather talk about some of his favorite individual moments on the album rather than the marketing strategy (or lack thereof) behind its release. “I definitely really like the opening bit, the ‘War Pigs’ thing,” he said. “I think the flow is just perfect and the energy is right, and like I said before … you always want to make a strong impact out of the gates, and that was the perfect moment. I really like the Soulja Boy/ Aphex Twin mix. I really like the ‘Where’s Your Head At?’/ Rick Ross ‘Blowin’ Money Fast’ mix. … Oh, and the M.O.P. over Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the USA’ mix is definitely one of the more magical moments to me.” All Day has only been out for 24 hours, but fans have already created an ever-growing list of all the samples Gillis mined to make the album. And they’ve been contacting him nonstop to discuss their favorite mixes, too. Though the response has been overwhelming, Gillis said he’s pretty used to it at this point. After all, when it comes to his music, playing “Spot the Sample” is half of the fun. “People are always juiced about the big ones … the Jackson 5 samples and things like that, but when people are really excited, they kinda cite the slightly more obscure ones,” Gillis laughed. “The Fugazi [‘Waiting Room’ sample] has been one people have been talking about a lot, and the Aphex Twin/Soulja Boy one. … People kind of expect the huge pop hits and the classics, but it’s the ones that are slightly less popular that really get the fans who have been listening to my stuff for years really excited about diving in.” Related Artists Girl Talk

Mitchel Musso Gets Real On New Album, Brainstorm

‘Hannah Montana’ actor tells MTV News he shot videos for entire eight-song set ‘to make it different.’ By Jocelyn Vena Mitchel Musso Mitchel Musso made a name for himself as one of the stars of “Hannah Montana,” alongside another star you may have heard of, Miley Cyrus. But Musso wants his fans to know he’s much more than Cyrus’ small-screen sidekick . He also has a burgeoning music career and his sophomore album, Brainstorm, drops next Monday. For the album, Musso worked with brother and Metro Station frontman Mason Musso, whom he described as the perfect person to collaborate with because they mesh so well. “Mason could teach me all day. He could teach me all day on anything and everything, but I don’t care. I look up to him and he’s my older brother,” he said. “I love him to death. He’s my best friend and we’ll forever make music together and when we get into the studio we have the same mindset, which I think makes good music.” The album is Mitchel’s passion project: He made a music video for each of the eight songs on the album, which he said should help to convey a story line. “Honestly, I just wanted to make it different. And I figured trying to tell this fluid story and making a music video for every single song [would achieve that]; just so the message would be portrayed,” he told MTV News about Brainstorm, which follows the arc of a relationship. “Overall, I felt it told a pretty fluid story and that’s the way that we wrote it,” he continued. “I don’t think I could use [the word] ‘original’ enough. These music videos are very under-toned. I didn’t go in there with putting $3 million into each of these music videos. So what I did was got as real as I could. … It’s more about creating this baby and making it this big deal. So we shot eight music videos in three and a half days. It was wild. [The videos are] intimate and quiet.” Are you a fan of Mitchel’s music? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Mitchel Musso

Justin Bieber Gets ‘Kudos’ For His ‘CSI’ Cameo

Show’s exec producer sings the star’s praises over his appearance on the show, airing Thursday. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on “CSI” Photo: CBS Justin Bieber might be one of a handful of pop stars to make a cameo on “CSI,” but he has certainly left his mark on the cast and the crew of the hit CBS crime drama. When Bieber hits the small screen Thursday night (September 23) for his performance as Jason McCann, he will certainly leave fans stunned by his acting chops, one of the show’s producers told MTV News. “I thought that he did a really good job. We only had Justin for a day, for 10 and a half hours, and he had a lot of work crammed into those 10 and a half hours,” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said about the first of Bieber’s two appearances on the show. “And he had one super big scene, and the scene was an interrogation scene in the police department with [actor] George Eads, and George actually took Justin under his wing.” Why did the veteran “CSI” actor feel that Biebs was worthy of his mentorship? “George said that when he was just starting out, Tom Selleck took him under his wing, so I think he tried to return that kindness, and he really had some time to work the material,” she explained. “We built in some time, and I thought that scene was really good, and Justin had a couple of scenes where he didn’t have a lot of dialogue or no dialogue and then two pretty heavy scenes.” Noting that Bieber did a “really good job” with the heavier work, Mendelsohn added that Bieber has some acting chops. “It’s hard for any accomplished, mature actor to come on the set and fall right into character and do your work, so kudos to Justin,” she said.
