Such is the case for Holly Burt, who is gaining fame this week after being featured for turning her Amazon height into a modeling career. Via People.com reports : When Holly Burt was in middle school, she was bullied by classmates who called her “daddy long legs,” “tree” and “giraffe.” At 6-foot-5, Holly is now towering over all the body shamers who taunted her for her height. She’s moved from Florida to New York City, where her 49-½-inch legs are breaking records – and helping her launch a modeling career. “I’ve been tall all my life and sometimes I was picked on,” Burt, 20 told Barcroft TV. “So now it’s like I’m being recognized for something good.” “I was called daddy long legs, tree or giraffe,” she said. “Kind of, like, the ordinary tall things.” Things changed two years ago when she moved to New York, though. Burt says her legs have made her the center of attention. Makinde Adeagbo knows how isolating it can be to live and work in Silicon Valley as Black man . The techie says it’s even more isolating to be a software engineer in the sea of white faces… Via Good Black News : Adeagbo, who is an engineer at the San Francisco company Pinterest, says he can go weeks without spotting another black engineer in America’s tech hub. “It’s not only that you are the only black person in the room or in the company, often times you are the only black person you see in Palo Alto or Menlo Park,” says Adeagbo, 30. About 1% of engineers at Facebook and Google are African American. The population of Palo Alto, Calif. is 2% African American, Menlo Park, Calif., is under 5%. Adeagbo says he hit on the idea while volunteering as a mentor to a couple of computer science students. “These students knew they had someone who had their backs, whom they could look up to and reach out to when they needed help. I thought to myself: Every black software engineer could accomplish a lot if they had someone like this,” says Adeagbo. . The name /dev/color is a reference to a common directory on computer systems “as well as our efforts to strengthen the community of Black software engineers, engineers of color,” he says. Adeagbo’s /dev/color is joining Black Girls Code, Code 2040 and the Hidden Genius Project, a new and growing wave of enterprising organizations founded by African Americans aimed at addressing the scarcity of African Americans in the tech industry. “Other black software engineers need to provide this for the black engineers coming behind them,” says Adeagbo, who is splitting his time between /dev/color and Pinterest. “We all need to work together to pull ourselves up and make sure we are accomplishing all that we can.” #BlackSTEMLivesMatter

Yes, according to Kim Davis. Davis, of course, rose to national prominence a few weeks ago after she refused to issue marriage license to same-sex couples because she said it went against her Catholic beliefs. But Davis would likely say her struggle has been worth it because she claims to have had a private meeting with Pope Francis when he visited America last week. “The Holy See is aware of the reports of Kim Davis meeting with the Holy Father,” Father Benedettini said in a statement. “The Vatican does not confirm the meeting, nor does it deny the meeting. There will be no further information given.” It is true that Davis was in D.C. around the same time Francis addressed Congress, as she received a Cost of Discipleship award at the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit there. “I was crying, Davis tells ABC of the meeting. “I had tears coming out of my eyes. I put my hand out and he reached and he grabbed it, and I hugged him and he hugged me. “And he said, ‘thank you for your courage.’ Just knowing that the pope is on track with what we’re doing, it kind of validates everything to have someone of that stature.” The Liberty Counsel, an organization representing Davis during her legal battles, alleges that Pope Francis met both her and her husband and presented them with two rosaries, which she plans to give to her Catholic parents.
