The beloved Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton gave birth to her and Prince William’s first son, Prince George of Cambridge, on July 22, 2013. “I don’t really even know where to start with this one,” Chris Soules, The Bachelor himself, writes in his weekly blog discussing last night’s episode. That sums it up perfectly right there. He doesn’t even have to go on. He does, of course, delve into the drama-filled installment, which was jam-packed with awkward moments not even The Bachelor spoilers saw coming … “I had no clue what was happening with Kelsey when she was having her ‘episode,'” Chris Soules writes of The Bachelor Season 19 Episode 6 . “It wasn’t until someone told me that Kelsey was asking for me that I had any inkling something was going on. When I saw her sitting on the floor, I was so worried.” “I felt terrible that something I said had made her panic. Dartmouth College Announces #BlackLivesMatter Courses On Racial Inequality In America Darmouth College is taking a step in the right direction by planning to offer courses centered around educating students in racial inequality and violence in America. via Fox News Dartmouth College will offer its students a spring semester course borne of the events surrounding the fatal shooting last year of an unarmed black man by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo. The course, titled, “10 Weeks, 10 Professors: #BlackLivesMatter” is “dedicated to considering race, structural inequality and violence in both a historical and modern context,” The Dartmouth student newspaper reported. The lessons in the Ivy League school’s pilot course will be divided into 15 sections and involve more than 10 academic departments, including anthropology, history, mathematics, English and women’s studies, according to the paper. About 15 Dartmouth professors are expected to teach the individual sections of the class. “We hope students will be able to understand that Ferguson is not just an event in 2014, but something that’s tethered in time to a long history and still-emerging ideas about race in the U.S. and how policing works in an age of social media and distributed surveillance,” said English professor Aimee Bahng, according to The Dartmouth paper. The Fifty Shades of Grey movie has generated controversy since the get-go, and with its premiere one week away, some activists are organizing a boycott. Based on what? The issue at hand is somewhat unexpected … Given that the film was inspired by a BDSM-filled erotic novel that was conceived as Twilight fan fiction, it’s not a shock that its content is provocative. What’s a little surprising is that one particular organization doesn’t seem to take much issue with the sexual atmosphere in the story, but something else. A new online campaign called #50dollarsnot50shades is seeking both a boycott of Fifty Shades of Grey as well as donations to support battered women. While the campaign and its supporters don’t necessarily seem to object to sexual content, they do claim that the film glamorizes violence against women. The executive director of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCSE), one of the campaign’s supporters, stated on the organization’s website: “Hollywood is advertising the Fifty Shades story as an erotic love affair, but it is really about sexual abuse and violence against women.” “As such, the #50dollarsnot50shades movement is calling for audiences to not see Fifty Shades of Grey when it debuts on Valentine’s Day weekend.” “Instead, donate the money they would have spent on a popcorn, drinks, movie ticket and babysitter to charities that support abused women.” The NCSE is not alone in its view of the movie. Groups promoting the campaign include London Abused Women’s Centre and Stop Porn Culture. As of this report, neither E.L. James, the author of the original book series, Universal Studios or the main stars have responded to the controversy. This is the latest uproar to make headlines for Fifty Shades of Grey , which received an “18” rating in the UK (basically like an NC-17 in the U.S.). If the goal of any commercial is to make an impression, then Nationwide should be popping champagne bottles inside its headquarters today. Perhaps more than any other ad that aired last night, folks are still talking about the Nationwide Super Bowl commercial . Only, instead of praising its humor or originality, critics are wondering: Did Nationwide really just run a commercial that centered on a dead child?!? Nationwide Super Bowl Commercial: Make Safe Happen The spot (titled “Make Safe Happen”) opened with a scene of a little kid riding a tricycle, playing with a dog and engaging in other childhood activities. “I’ll never learn to ride a bike,” the young boy says at the outset. “Or get cooties. I’ll never learn to fly… or travel the world with my best friend… and I won’t ever get married.” Why not? “I couldn’t grow up because I died from an accident.” Oh. We then cut to various grave scenes, as the ad reads: “The number one cause of childhood deaths is preventable accidents. At Nationwide, we believe in protecting what matters most: your kids. Together, we can make safe happen.” Many viewers were aghast that the company would air such a morbid commercial, with criticism growing so strong that Nationwide has actually released a statement in defense of the footage. “Preventable injuries around the home are the leading cause of childhood deaths in America,” it reads. “Most people don’t know that. Nationwide ran an ad during the Super Bowl that started a fierce conversation. The sole purpose of this message was to start a conversation, not sell insurance.” We somehow doubt that’s 100% true, but okay. Fair enough. Go on… 2015 Super Bowl Commercials 1.
