Los Looking For Diddy To ‘Amplify’ His Career

‘Now it’s officially time to move forward,’ Baltimore MC tells MTV News of getting to work with Bad Boy Records. By Rob Markman Los Photo: MTV News Los had no idea that Diddy would be announcing his signing to Bad Boy with MTV News at the top of the month, but now that the cat is out of the bag, the Baltimore, Maryland, rap stand-out is excited to get to work. “He didn’t tell me that he was gonna say it. I think that he was just in the moment and he was just goin’ and it just kinda came out,” Los told MTV News on Tuesday. “I got the news at the same time other people got the news.” The The Crown Ain’t Safe MC officially signed his deal with Diddy’s storied label at the end of last year, but they had decided to save the announcement. The news broke a little earlier than Los expected, but he is hyped up nonetheless. “I was just excited about it. I was like, ‘Now it’s officially time to move forward, let’s get everything goin’,’ because we had been keeping low for a minute,” he said. This isn’t Los’ first go-round with Bad Boy, however. He auditioned for Puff’s “Making the Band 2” in 2002 and made it to the end of the competition, but wasn’t a part of the manufactured Da Band because he wouldn’t sign the necessary waivers. The truth is, Los wasn’t interested in being a part of a group, but he would go on to sign a solo deal with Diddy around 2005. The original Bad Boy deal went through a local independent label that Los was signed to, but after the owners of the label went through some legal trouble, Los was released from Bad Boy in 2008. Still, he and Combs maintained a connection. “He called me every day, every night; he called me,” Los said. “Man this guy don’t sleep; he would call me 2 in the morning, then text me 3 in the morning, text me 4, 5. I’m like, ‘Yo when is he getting rest?’ ” Diddy’s texts would pretty much mirror the motivational tweets he’s known to send. In the middle of the night, Los we get random messages like “Let’s make history” and “Let’s go!” It was that type of energy that the young MC craved. Eventually he decided that he would once again sign with Bad Boy. “It just reminded me of his brand and what it represents: no sleep, hard work, history, success,” Los said of the work ethic that has become synonymous with all things Diddy. “I decided to bring back to Puff, and I felt like no one could amplify my situation as much as he could anyway.” What do you think of Los’ decision to re-sign with Bad Boy? The Wanted Get ‘Glee’ Love

British boy band’s Battleground single, ‘Glad You Came,’ will be featured on this season of the hit Fox show. By Jocelyn Vena The Wanted Photo: MTV News The Wanted are currently taking their fist-pumping boy band antics across America, and it seems that whatever they are doing is working. The guys just confirmed that their Battleground single, “Glad You Came,” will appear on “Glee” this season. The guys made the announcement on Twitter on Monday (February 6). The song originally appeared on their 2011 album and is now getting some love Stateside. It’s already hit back in their native U.K., having topped the charts there for several weeks last year. And, all the U.S. attention is certainly a coup for the band. “The American fans are so optimistic, very intense,” bandmate Max George told MTV News about all the U.S. attention. “They’re just really enthusiastic. I get a massive buzz off American people. I think it’s really refreshing.” While their fans back home have already scooped up Battleground, fellow Wanted singer Jay McGuiness explained that they hope their music comes before their image — though they may have plenty of tween girls screaming their names. “I think when we first started we were just trying to create the best pop album we could because we knew that’s what everyone wanted to hear,” he said of their 2010 album debut. “And then the second time around you find you want to be a lot more creative, you want to put on personal things and the writing on the first album was fun and the writing on the second album was really personal. “And that means every time we do a live gig and people are singing it back [and] it makes everything electric,” he continued. “And I think nowadays boy bands can be part of that, where the music is as key as people find them attractive and we know that boy bands often had shelf lives because the image came before the music. And we’re trying to be the other way around. So far it’s working because we like singing and people like listening to us.” The band — which also includes Tom Parker, Siva Kaneswaran and Nathan Sykes — is here promoting Battleground. Their U.S. tour will wrap up on Wednesday in Los Angeles before they kick off an arena tour on February 15 in their native England. Are you excited for the “Glee” cast to perform “Glad You Came”? ‘Before Watchmen’ Confirmed: Will More Movies Follow?

With the announcement of ‘Watchmen’ prequel comics, the MTV Movies Team considers the future of ‘Watchmen’ as a film franchise. By Josh Wigler The Dr. Manhattan cover of “Before Watchmen” Photo: DC Comics Who watches the “Watchmen,” you ask? Right now the answer appears to be everyone. DC Entertainment announced Wednesday (February 1) that a new “Watchmen” prequel series is officially in development. Titled “Before Watchmen,” the project spans seven different miniseries starring popular characters from Rorschach to Doctor Manhattan. The continuation of “Watchmen” had been rumored for quite some time, but today’s announcement turns rumors into facts — and the reaction to those facts is divided, to say the least. Some fans believe that more “Watchmen” is a great idea , especially considering the involvement of top-tier comic book talents including Darwyn Cooke and Brian Azzarello. For others, even excellent creative teams won’t wash away the panic some are feeling at the prospect of revisiting the most successful, self-contained graphic novel of all time. Indeed, “Watchmen” writer Alan Moore has already spoken out against the existence of “Before Watchmen,” telling the New York Times that it’s “completely shameless.” Artist Dave Gibbons’ stance, meanwhile, is considerably warmer: “I appreciate DC’s reasons for this initiative and the wish of the artists and writers involved to pay tribute to our work. May these new additions have the success they desire.” From fans to creators and all the onlookers in between, arguments about whether or not “Before Watchmen” should even exist are sure to rage on in the coming days, weeks and months. But the MTV Movies Team is focused on a different question: Will “Before Watchmen” lead to more “Watchmen” movies? Up front, it should be noted that the film adaptation of Moore and Gibbons’ graphic novel wasn’t a smash success at the box office, only yielding $185 million worldwide against a $130 million budget. But the film’s high-profile release drew renewed attention to the “Watchmen” brand , propelling its ranking as the top-selling graphic novel for 11 straight months. “Watchmen” also pulled in strong initial DVD sales and rental figures. An unconventional success, perhaps, but success all the same. Even with all those factors considered, would the “Watchmen” movie’s creative team be on-board for sequels? Actors Patrick Wilson and Malin Akerman , who played Nite Owl and Silk Spectre respectively, spoke with MTV News about the topic in 2009, and both expressed skepticism. “I just don’t know where you would go,” Wilson said. “You would need one good idea.” “I don’t really know how [a sequel] would ever be possible,” Akerman added . “Because ‘Watchmen’ is ‘Watchmen,’ and we covered pretty much the whole novel.” Clearly, there is now more ground to cover than Akerman once realized, so future “Watchmen” movies based on original comics material are certainly possible. But if “Watchmen” does have a future on the big screen, director Zack Snyder will not be involved — if comments he made three years ago still hold weight, that is. “I know that I wouldn’t have anything to do with it,” Snyder said in February 2009. “It would be like me going to [‘No Country for Old Men’ author] Cormac McCarthy and going, ‘I have an idea for a [sequel]: You write a book, and I’ll write a movie, and you can release it. You’ll win a Pulitzer; I’ll win an Oscar. It’ll be awesome.’ “The attitude toward comic books, they show their hand a little bit,” he added. “They would never say that about a real novelist, but they would about a comic book.” So will we see more “Watchmen” on film? At this point, it’s simply too early to say. But where one would have thought the prospect impossible just three years ago, the possibilities are virtually endless today. Rick Perry Drops Out Of Race, Endorses Newt Gingrich

‘I know when it’s time to make a strategic retreat,’ former GOP presidential hopeful says. By Dan Montalto Rick Perry Photo: Getty Images Rick Perry announced Thursday (January 19) that he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination and throwing his support behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Perry made the announcement at a news conference in Charleston, South Carolina, saying, “I have come to the conclusion that there is no viable path forward for me in the 2012 campaign. I know when it’s time to make a strategic retreat.” The Texas governor’s announcement came just hours before the final debate leading up to Saturday’s South Carolina primary, in which he had been polling in the low single digits. Perry finished fifth in both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary . Upon entering the race, Perry initially surged in the polls, but his support quickly dwindled following several gaffes during the Republican debates. In explaining his support for Gingrich, Perry stated, “I believe Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform this country,” adding that Gingrich has the “heart of a conservative reformer.” With recent polls showing Gingrich closing in on Romney’s lead in South Carolina, Perry’s timing and endorsement could have an impact on Saturday’s primary. Perry’s endorsement of Gingrich also comes on the same day that a recount of the Iowa caucus results erased Romney’s razor-thin victory, putting former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum at the top of the vote count. DeKalb County Schools has lifted a ban on marching band activities that it instituted in December in the wake of the hazing death of Florida A&M drum major Robert Champion, a Southwest DeKalb High School graduate. In making the announcement, DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson said the school district will continue to look into reports of inappropriate behavior in marching bands. The investigation is focused on activities of adults in charge of marching band programs. DeKalb County’s investigation began after two alleged hazing incidents at FAMU involving marching band students who had attended DeKalb Schools, including Champion. Parents and students were alarmed when the suspension was announced and worried that the action could lead to fewer scholarship opportunities. Read the full story at the AJC.com.
