DVD: Actors Love David Fincher’s Penchant for Multiple Takes, Says the Social Network Making-Of

David Fincher’s let’s-try-it-again method of shooting, whereby each take is done dozens, if not hundreds, of times, has gotten some mixed reviews from veterans of his films, most notably Jake Gyllenhaal . But the young up-and-comers who starred in The Social Network just love, love, loved it, if the making-of documentary, “How Did They Ever Make a Movie of Facebook?” — featured on the new DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment — is to be believed.

DVD: Twelve Keeps the Our-Youth-Are-Doomed Genre Alive

You’ve probably heard this quote from eighth century BC philosopher Hesiod in some high school valedictorian’s speech: “I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words… When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint.” And so it goes, with each generation bemoaning the horrors of the new brats snapping at their heels.

Not to worry, though, the man who brought sexy back is arranging and attending press screenings and glad-handing to secure an Oscar nom of his own. He may have two Emmys and six Grammys, but it’s clear this kid is after the Tracy Jordan dream.
