Brock Turner Rape Case Leads To Mandatory Rape Sentencing Bill In California The offensively light sentence that Stanford swimmer Brock Turner received for raping an unconscious woman sent the nation into an outrage. As a result, California is now tightening their belt in regards to the punishment that such crimes deserve according to the LATimes … State lawmakers passed a bill Monday to add mandatory prison sentences for certain sexual assaults – a measure inspired by a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge’s decision not to sentence a Stanford University student to prison in a high-profile case this year. The June decision by Judge Aaron Persky to sentence Stanford student Brock Turner to six months in jail after sexually assaulting an unconscious woman sparked significant criticism that the punishment was too lenient. Under current California law, those convicted of rape using additional physical force must serve time in prison. This measure would require the same punishment for sexual assaults of those unconscious or incapable of giving consent due to intoxication. “If we let a rapist off with probation and little jail time, we re-victimize the victim, we dissuade other victims from coming forward and we send a message that sexual assault of an incapacitated victim is just no big deal,” Assemblyman Bill Dodd (D-Napa), a coauthor of the measure, said during floor debate in the Assembly. Tour Bus Loaded With 300 Kilos Of Cocaine Busted In Paraguay According to BusinessInsider , there are some folks in Rio who are in LOVE with the coco… Officials in Paraguay intercepted a tour bus loaded with 296 kilos of cocaine on its way to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on August 14. The bus, empty except for two men and the cocaine, was stopped on the Paraguay side of the Friendship Bridge, which connects Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, with Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, according to a report from Paraguayan news site ABC and first spotted by InSight Crime. Paraguayan authorities were tipped off that something was amiss with the bus — which still had the logos of a transport company — when they noticed that it had no passengers. Authorities charged two men, a 52-year-old and 46-year-old, with drug trafficking and other crimes. The cocaine, in 274 packets, was hidden in a meter-long, 20-centimeter-wide false bottom underneath a mini fridge. The bus was sold by VIPS Tours SA in late July, with the buyer promising to remove the logos. Upon examining the seized cocaine, officials determined that its likely origin was Colombia, the world’s largest producer of the drug. They said that it would have had a value of $3 million on the Brazil market, according to ABC. Authorities also seized cellphones and cash. Freddie Gibbs Charged With Sexual Assault Rapper Freddie Gibbs has been formally charged with sexual assault. The Indiana emcee who says he’s innocent is facing rape charges stemming from a 2015 incident in Austria. Rolling Stone reports: Two-and-a-half months after Freddie Gibbs was arrested in France stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred in Vienna, Austria in July 2015, the rapper has formally been charged in the incident. A spokesperson for the Vienna criminal court confirmed the charges of “sexual abuse of a defenseless or psychologically impaired person” Wednesday. ” [Gibbs] is alleged to have administered knock-out drops to a woman and then have abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state,” the spokesperson said in a statement, accusing the rapper of spiking a woman’s drink, Metro US reports. Gibbs could face 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges. Gibbs’ Austrian-based lawyer Thomas Kralik denied that the rapper had any sexual contact with the alleged victim. “He strenuously denies [the accusations],” Kralik said. Gibbs’ U.S. lawyer Theodore Simon added in an email statement to Rolling Stone, “While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100 percent innocent…” What do YOU think about the latest update in the Freddie Gibbs case???
Tyga To Be Arrested At Customs After Island Getaway Tyga is already being chased by his creditors …and now, it looks like all those skipped payments have the law looking for him as well. While Chester Tyga has been sunning it up in Turks And Caicos with his barely legal bae Kylie Jenner and all her young friends for her 19th birthday for the last few days… the courts have been looking for him to answer to a former landlord that he owes roughly $500k. Since he didn’t bother to cut his days running around the Carribbean with teenage girls short to handle his responsibilities…now he’s got a warrant out for his arrest. Via TMZ : Tyga is about to get an unwelcome homecoming when he returns to the U.S. from Turks and Caicos … he’s probably gonna get arrested. Law enforcement sources tell us … LAPD, L.A. County Sheriffs Dept. and U.S. Customs have been notified … there’s an arrest warrant out for Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend. TMZ broke the story … Tyga was a no-show in court earlier this week in connection with a $480k judgment his former landlord is trying to enforce. The judge issued the warrant and it’s now in both the federal and L.A. systems. We’re told when Tyga returns home, U.S. Customs will detain him and notify L.A. authorities, who can then come and hook him up. If Tyga decides not to fly directly to L.A., it won’t solve his problem. If, for example, he lands in Miami, Customs will detain him and call L.A. authorities, who have the right to come and get him. We’re told L.A. law enforcement was specifically notified because Tyga is considered “high profile,” especially because of his connection to the Kardashian clan.
