Miami don tweets Wale, Meek Mill and Pill set to appear on compilation album due May 24. By Alvin Blanco Rick Ross Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images Rick Ross is wasting no time in getting his Maybach Music Group rolling. The Miami rap don announced that he’s releasing a compilation album called Self Made that will be in stores May 24. The Bawse delivered the news about the new album via Twitter , including his latest signees — DC rapper Wale, Philadelphia’s Meek Mill and Atlanta MC Pill — in the tweet. After a bidding war that included Bryan “Baby” Williams’ Cash Money Records and Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records, the Def Jam artist decided to pass on aligning with another hip-hop mogul, choosing instead to partner with the Warner Music Group to distribute his Maybach Music Group imprint. “We are thrilled to be in business with Rick Ross,” said Todd Moscowitz, co-president and CEO of Warner Bros. Records, in a statement last month. “We were drawn to his hustle. Ross is an entrepreneur who built his company from the ground up. He’s a music magnate, a lightning rod, and an empire builder. Our partnership with him is about building a brand that endures. We back his vision all the way and are ready to give him the resources he needs to pursue that vision.” Of the aforementioned artists, Wale was the first to sign with the Bawse’s label, followed by Meek Mill and Pill, who was already a Warner artist. Other acts on MMG include Gunplay, Torch and Young Breed of rap group Triple Cs as well as R&B singer Masspike Miles. Last July, Rick Ross released his fourth solo album, Teflon Don, which featured the hits “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)” and “Aston Martin Music” as well as the street anthem “MC Hammer.” Beginning March 18, Ross will be heading out on the road with Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Travis Barker for the I Am Music II Tour . ‘It’s not always a bad thing to be the first person’ voted off, 25-year-old diva says. By Gil Kaufman Ashthon Jones performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Ashthon Jones is what you might call a glass-half-full kind of gal. Whereas some might consider being a wild-card pick and then the first finalist eliminated on season 10 of “American Idol” a bummer, the 25-year-old Nashville native said Friday (March 11) that she’s choosing to see this as an opportunity to get her career started in earnest. After winning the judges over early with her diva style and voluminous hair, Jones stumbled on Wednesday night with a weak version of the somewhat obscure Diana Ross song “When You Tell Me That You Love Me,” which she sang only marginally better on Thursday’s show in her last-ditch effort to stay in the running. But what’s done is done, and now the former teenage runaway said she’s eager to leave her hardscrabble life (and retail job) behind and get on to the next thing. Q : Are you going back to your store job in Nashville? A : No, I’m not! I left it there, and I left it there to stay. I’ve worked and worked all my life, and now it’s time for me to be the artist and the performer that God put in me a long time ago … and hopefully opportunities are there for me. Q : What do you think America was missing about you during that top 24 round? A : I don’t know! I was thinking the same thing. I just wanted people to see my personality, and I don’t think the show showed my personality as much as I wanted it to. … I’m kind of glad that the judges saw that personality of a diva, but I didn’t want the world to see me as diva-like, like I’m all that. … I have faith and confidence in myself. I’ve never been timid onstage. Q : A lot was made of your song choice, but it was not as obscure as some of the other songs the contestants chose. If you could go back now, would you have chosen a different Diana Ross song? A : As I look back at it now … I chose that song for a reason. I listened to all the Diana Ross songs, and that one, for some reason, spoke to me. … I related it to my life and my experiences and my faith and the love that I have around me. As I was singing that song, the lyrics is what spoke to me. Q : What was the best piece of advice you received from one of the judges? A : Steven and Randy told me some great things, but Jennifer always had something real to say that came straight from her spirit. … She always told me, “You’re amazing, you’re gonna go far … I see it, I see it, I see it.” And last night she told me, “It’s all about the songs in the music business.” Even when you get that first record, make sure it’s a hit before you put it out, because that’s what America will remember, those great songs, and they’re never gonna go away. Q : If you could describe Steven Tyler in one word, what would it be? A : Fabulous. He was fabulous. From his clothes to his shoes [to] what he said. He didn’t care what people thought and said exactly what he felt. And behind the scenes, he was the most humble and sweet person. Q : You looked like you were in such pain when you found out that you were going home. What was going on with you at that moment? A : It really was not pain. It was more so leaving the stage and my friends that I had made. I just had to let it out. I always hold stuff in, I’m a very, very strong person … [but] sometimes you have to let it out, you have to show your emotion. Q : What about the fact that you were the first person voted off? Is there any stigma to that? A : I think it’s not always a bad thing to be the first person. It can be a good thing. Everything that I went through on the show, now I’m going to take it and put it to work in my career. Q : Where do you yourself in two to five years? A : I really see myself performing. I see myself going overseas performing. I see myself helping my mom out with her businesses that she wants to do. I see myself continuing to be a songwriter and a motivator. Q : Do you see yourself winning a Grammy, being a big, big artist? A : It’s possible. You can’t really say, “I’m going to do that.” But I’m a firm believer in speaking everything into existence. … Yes, I believe that I’m going to have a Grammy, I believe that something great is going to come out of this experience. Rapper says he and Mobb Deep vet ‘gonna get something done.’ By D.L. Chandler, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News G-Unit foot solider Lloyd Banks is enjoying quite the resurgence in his nearly decade-long career. The “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” rapper sat down with MTV News in Las Vegas to talk about the public reception of his H.F.M. 2 (Hunger for More 2) album, longevity in the rap game and collaborating with recently freed rap veteran Prodigy, of Mobb Deep fame. Regarding his latest album, Banks said, “I feel like the reception matches the first one. For me, it’s gonna have a little more extra meaning to it,” he continued, “because I remember you come in as a brand-new artist, you feel like it’s gonna be that way forever.” “I was just watching Snoop perform,” he added. “In my mind, I’m like, ‘Damn, it’s going two decades into the game,’ and I’ve been in the game approaching a decade now with putting out music. It’s kind of expected for you to do good, then 10 years later when you do good, it’s a whole ‘nother feeling.” The self-proclaimed Punch Line King announced a special track he has in mind for his former G-Unit teammate Prodigy. “I haven’t spoken to him yet,” Banks said. “We gonna get something done.” Banks added that he has, however, been in contact with the gruff-voiced rapper’s longtime producer and comrade the Alchemist and promised that the pair will work together. He mentioned that he already has a record in mind for the collaboration, which would include another artist. “I had the crazy record, [but] I’m not gonna say the other feature, but hopefully I get a good one,” he teased. Lil’ Kim nixes any possibility of reuniting with her old crew. When MTV’s Sway Calloway asked if there was a chance of a reunion, Kim simply replied, “No. Next question.” In particular, Kim and fellow group member Lil Cease had a falling-out, culminating in a $6 million suit in 2005 over a Junior M.A.F.I.A. DVD, with Kim suing Cease. But what about reuniting simply on a personal level? “At this point I would say never,” stated Kim. “Only God directs my life so I can’t say if I would ever speak to him in the future. But at this point, no. I have not seen a single change and then I’ve seen a bunch of talk and a bunch of contradictions, so no.” Watch footage of the interview below:

Weezy’s ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ video premieres Thursday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne and Sway Photo: MTV News Five years ago, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne were trading lyrical jabs like Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj do these days. Their war of words, however, seemed to subside when the iconic Brooklyn rapper invited the Cash Money superstar to join him on “Hello Brooklyn 2.0,” from 2007’s American Gangster. But things seemed to become chilly again when Birdman compared Hov and Weezy, saying his artist is a better rapper and has more money. In January, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “H.A.M.” arrived via Facebook, and fans wondered whether Jay was taking shots at Wayne on the track. “N—as fantasize about the sh– that I do daily/ Like these rappers rap about all the sh– that I do daily,” Jay spits on the number. “I’m like really, half a billi, n—a, really you got Baby money/ Keep it real with n—as, n—as ain’t got my lady money.” According to Weezy, who heard the track personally through West, he isn’t looking to start another competition with Jay. Wayne told MTV News that he didn’t ask ‘Ye about the alleged dig: “I wouldn’t ask him about a Jay-Z line because he’s not Jay-Z.” That doesn’t mean Wayne wouldn’t respond to the line, even if he hasn’t returned fire just yet. “Me and my wit, given my wit, I would probably play off of it,” Wayne explained. “But I wouldn’t make it a competition, because actually, the subject that he’s talking about in that line, I can’t box with the card. I’d be the first one to tell you that, given my wit, and the type of person that I am, I’d capitalize and I’d play off of it. Yeah, I definitely would.” The New Orleans rapper is putting the final touches on his next studio album — and his first project since his release from prison — Tha Carter IV. But first, Wayne is set to premiere his video for “6 Foot 7 Foot” on MTV this Thursday at 7:54 p.m. Related Videos Lil Wayne Ready To Drop ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ Related Artists Lil Wayne Jay-Z
‘I’ll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog,’ she told her fans. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian on the set of her video for “Turn It Up” Photo: Celebuzz/ Kim Kardashian On her blog, Kim Kardashian is teasing fans with a new look at her Hype Williams-directed music video for her single, “Turn It Up.” In a series of photos she posted on her blog , Kim shows the process it took for her to get the Bo Derek braids she’s rocking in the soon-to-be-released video. In a few photos, fans see the finished look: Kim rocking the braids, wearing white fur and gracing peachy lips. In another pair of photos, Kim sits in a hairdressing chair as a team works to give Kim those corn rows. Back in December, Kardashian tweeted a photo of herself in the braids, without indicating whether the look would appear in her video. “Hype Williams came up with this Bo Derek braids look for the music video and I loved it!” she wrote about the hairstyle on Tuesday. “It took about four hours to do, and believe it or not I fell asleep! I wish I could have worn it longer.” Kardashian said that she’s wearing more than just this one look in the clip and that as the video’s release approaches, she’ll have more and more to share with fans about it. “We tried out a number of different looks in the video, and I’ll be sharing the other looks with you guys here on my blog,” she said. “I’m excited (and a little nervous) for you all to hear the song and watch the video. I really hope you all like it!” On Monday, Kim posted an image of herself in the studio while she was recording the song, which premieres on “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” on Sunday. “I am so excited for you all to hear my song. It debuts this Sunday on [my show] and will be available on iTunes,” she explained. “I’m going to start sharing all my pics from the music video shoot.” Kardashian has always said the song is a one-off and that all proceeds from its sale will go to a good cause. “I’m proud of myself that I tried something. It’s all in fun,” she explained about the song, which was produced by The-Dream. “We just had a good time and the proceeds are going to a cancer organization [because we both] lost a parent to cancer. So it’s just fun.”
‘Far Away’ singer tells MTV News she’s ‘ready to unleash’ the real Marsha on solo debut. By Rebecca Thomas Marsha Ambrosius Photo: MTV News Marsha Ambrosius is like that gifted actor who dutifully plays understudy to the stage vet, patiently waiting for her turn under the house lights. Now, after years of putting in work behind the scenes, she’s ready to hit her mark. Consider the Brit singer’s debut, Late Nights & Early Mornings, released on Tuesday (March 1), a curtain-raiser for what’s likely to be a long solo career. When Marsha stopped by MTV News’ Times Square offices last month, her jubilation about her first solo offering was infectious. “I’m ready to unleash all things Marsha Ambrosius. Many people have expected many things from me, and all I can tell you is, you can expect me to be on my album.” An industry warhorse who spent the early part of her career as half of the neo-soul twosome Floetry , Ambrosius has written hits and blessed features for everyone from Michael Jackson (the flutter-inducing “Butterflies”) to Wale (last year’s empathetic “Diary”). And while the honorary Philadelphia girl doesn’t take her musical successes for granted, evolving meant venturing out on her own, she explained. “I think I’ve done my fair share of features, done my fair share of writing and producing for many others. It was time for me to hone in on what I wanted to say and who I want to be as an artist.” She soon discovered there was little difference between her songwriter and songstress personas (“I don’t put on a superhero suit and become Marsha Ambrosius the artist. I’m me, 24/7”). Indeed, except for those pipes, she’s every bit the girl next door, making midnight CVS runs, savoring a classic Philly hoagie and still trying to work up to four stars on the Nintendo Wii’s “Michael Jackson the Experience” “Billie Jean” routine (we can vouch that it is killer ). So following a label relocation to J Records and assists from production powerhouse Just Blaze, and longtime collaborators Dre & Vidal, Ambrosius banged out the blistering Canei Finch buzz single “Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player).” She let that song ride out through last fall, following it up with “Far Away,” a Blaze-produced single whose anti-bullying message might have gotten lost in Marsha’s super-sultry vocals if not for its provocative video. ” ‘Far Away,’ it’s still making noise, so I guess when people hear the record they’ll kinda decide,” the newly svelte singer said of choosing her next single. Before she headed out, racing to catch her train (yes, you might find yourself commuting with the soul star), we had to ask: What about that album title? Because it sounds awfully sensual. “It goes with the lifestyle, it’s the grind. It’s late nights in the studio, it’s early mornings of having to get on the Acela and get up to New York and do interviews. … Late night, early mornings: it’s the life of an artist, but I think everyone can relate to that.” But then she conceded with a laugh, “The sensual aspect came into it when I wrote the record ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings.’ [I was thinking], ‘Ooh, it’s gonna be a late night, early morning when I get you home.’ ” Tune in to Marsha’s live online performance on Tuesday, from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET; visit her site for more info.
