Michael Jackson Surveillance Tape Called Into Question

Dr. Conrad Murray’s lawyers question why LAPD surveillance expert only submitted a portion of tape into evidence. By Kara Warner Orlando Martinez Photo: Pool/ Getty Images Day 16 in the involuntary manslaughter trial against Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray marked the end of the prosecution’s case and the first day the defense had an opportunity to call witnesses to the stand. Testimony kicked off with a cross-examination of propofol expert Steven Shafer, during which Murray’s attorney Ed Chernoff challenged Shafer’s theory that there is no way Jackson could have killed himself with self-administered doses of Lorazepam and propofol. Chernoff and his team then moved through several witnesses Monday (October 24). The Witnesses

Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera Join 2011 AMA Performers

Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Maroon 5 also will perform, joining the likes of Katy Perry and Pitbull, at the American Music Awards. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Jack Guez/ AFP Justin Bieber , Christina Aguilera , Kelly Clarkson , Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5 have been added to the ever-expanding list of performers for the 2011 American Music Awards , joining a roster of talent that already includes Katy Perry and Pitbull. While most of this year’s performances are being kept under wraps, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions announced Monday (October 24) that Aguilera and Maroon 5 will team up on their current smash “Moves Like Jagger” at this year’s AMAs, which will air live on ABC on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Earlier this month, in a nomination special hosted by Pitbull and Nicki Minaj , it was revealed that Perry would head into the show as one of the night’s most-nominated acts (along with fellow females Adele, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift), up for Artist of the Year, Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Female Artist and Adult Contemporary Music: Favorite Artist. It’s somewhat fitting, given not only the rather huge year she’s had, but that she also delivered a full-throttle version of her hit “Firework” at last year’s AMAs . For the fifth year, American Music Award winners will be determined by online voting. Fans can support their favorites in all categories by heading over to AMAVote.com . The 2011 American Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. 2 Chainz Gets Real On New Mixtape

‘A lot of people don’t know what it’s like to be real,’ 2 Chainz tells Mixtape Daily about his T.R.U. REALigion . By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum 2 Chainz Photo: SDOTB Main Pick Headliners : 2 Chainz and DJ Drama Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : T.R.U. REALigion Real Spit : It’s hard to find a hotter rapper out of Atlanta than 2 Chainz right now. His current single “Spend It” remains one of the hottest songs in rap and even got a T.I. makeover when the King of the South hopped on the remix after he was released from prison in September. Still, that isn’t enough for the MC formerly known as Tity Boi. On November 1, 2 Chainz will be releasing his T.R.U. REALigion mixtape, while most fans are still clamoring over his last one, Codeine Cowboy 2 . 2 Chainz utilized some pretty clever wordplay for the title. “I spell it R-E-A-L because I feel like most people understand and know what religion is — it’s the study and belief — [but] a lot of people don’t know what it’s like to be real,” he explained to Mixtape Daily. And I’m here to kinda lead that campaign on why I feel like being real is a minority.” On the Jadakiss-assisted “One Day at a Time,” 2 Chainz slows his roll and raps about his everyday problems. After Chainz spills his feelings onto the track, Kiss jumps in with a scene-stealing verse. It is no secret that 2 Chainz’s star is on the rise. The DJ Drama-helmed T.R.U. REALigion will only cement what real hip-hop fans have known for some time now — 2 Chainz got next! Joints to Check For

John Mayer Undergoes Throat Surgery

Grammy winner announces granuloma diagnosis following series of concert cancellations By Gil Kaufman John Mayer Photo: Getty Images Singer/guitarist John Mayer has enjoyed a long, Grammy-filled career thanks to his bluesy rasp. But after canceling a series of recent performances to rest his voice, Mayer announced that he had gone under the knife to correct a throat problem that had laid him low. Mayer was diagnosed with granuloma (throat inflammation) just above his vocal cord last month and has been ordered to take complete vocal rest for at least a month following the surgery. “I wanted to give you an update on the granuloma just above my vocal cord,” Mayer wrote on his Tumblr . “I had surgery this afternoon to remove it and am now on complete vocal rest for a month or more. It’s been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but even given two weeks’ voice rest (along with many other approaches), there was no change for the better.” Mayer canceled some performances last month, including an appearance at the first-ever iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas as well as a show with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles. In addition, his upcoming fifth album, Born and Raised, which was originally slated for release this fall, has been pushed back to next year. “I should be frustrated but I can’t seem to stop thinking about beautiful things,” Mayer continued. “I never thought I’d be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage. The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it.” Related Artists John Mayer

Drake And Lil Wayne’s ‘The Real Her’ Leaks Online

It is unclear if the track will appear on Drizzy’s upcoming Take Care. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Drake Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Drake ‘s Take Care is finally complete. After a short delay that moved his original release date from October 24 to November 15, Drizzy handed the final cut into the label Wednesday and is now gearing up to promote his sophomore album. Last week, Drake dropped “Make Me Proud,” his new single featuring Nicki Minaj, and on Thursday night, another possible Take Care track hit the Internet. Though it wasn’t posted on his October’s Very Own blog like previous album singles “Headlines” and “Marvins Room,” the brand-new “The Real Her,” featuring Lil Wayne , made waves online . As of now, it is unclear whether the slow and sultry track, on which Drake sings throughout, will appear on Take Care. It begins with a start-and-stop piano intro, then about eight bars in, Drizzy starts to sing, “People around you should really have nothing to say/ Me I’m just proud of the fact that you’ve done it your way.” The song’s bridge connects “The Real Her” to Drake’s classic “Houstatlantavegas” from his 2009 So Far Gone mixtape. He softly croons, “Houston girls love the way it goes down, Atlanta girls love the way it goes down, Vegas girls love the way it goes down,” drawing a distinct parallel to the song that Drake said inspired the story line on Take Care. “It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside and I used to be like, ‘Man that looks crazy,’ ” he told MTV News of the fictional city Houstatlantavegas. “All those strip clubs and all those nightclubs and the drinks and the girls and the fame.” In his quest to find something real in a superficial world of fast love and even faster heartbreak, Drake invites Lil Wayne to rap about his experiences with the fairer sex. ” ‘Cause to her I’m just a rapper and soon she’ll have met another/ And if tonight was just an accident, tomorrow we’ll recover,” Weezy spits in almost a spoken-word flow. The five-minute-plus song ends with no resolve, instead closing out with the hook, on which Drake charges, “You must’ve done this before, this can’t be your first time.” And the hunt for Ms. Right goes on. Justin Bieber Leaves Tyler, The Creator ‘Starstruck’

Odd Future MC dreams of crafting a ’90s-R&B-style beat for JB. By Rob Markman Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Justin Bieber fan. “I met Justin back in February. He’s a cool kid and sh–,” Tyler told MTV News. “When I got in there, he was talkin’ about the ‘Yonkers’ video and sh–. It was weird, because I was sitting here starstruck, like, ‘Oh, f—, it’s Bieber. He’s asking me questions.’ I’m like, ‘Shut the f— up so I can talk to you. ‘ ” The outspoken rapper/producer may not have been able to get a word in edgewise, but he isn’t deterred: He still has dreams of crafting a track for the Biebs. So is the OFWGKTA terror going pop? Not exactly. “I just want to make ’90s R&B, like break beats, hard drums with pretty chords and sh–,” Tyler said of the type of track he’d make for Justin. “I really want to do that. Like, I be listening to Brandy or the first three Mary J. [Blige] albums and sh– and Faith [Evans] and Zhan

Taylor Swift Has 25 Songs For Speak Now Follow-Up

‘It’s looking really great,’ she tells The Hollywood Reporter of 2012 album. By James Montgomery Taylor Swift Photo: Big Machine Records Taylor Swift ‘s Speak Now was released just one year ago, but, from the sound of things, work on the follow-up is already well under way. Last week, Swift told MTV News that she’s “been writing so much for the new record,” adding that she’s “already excited about it,” even though the album won’t see the light of day until 2012. And, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed even more about the new disc and the songs she’s already penned. “I’ve written 25 songs so far, so it’s coming along really well,” Swift said in the interview. “I’ve been writing a lot, and I like to take two years to make a record. We’re at the end of year one, and I still have a year left to go write. “It’s looking really great,” she added. Whenever the new album is released, it’ll have some lofty company to keep: Swift’s Speak Now opened at #1 on the Billboard albums chart, breaking the 1 million mark in first-week sales. And her previous effort, 2008’s Fearless, also bowed at #1 and has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide. Of course, writing songs isn’t the only project on Swift’s plate at the moment. She just launched her first-ever fragrance, Wonderstruck , which, as she explained to us, she hopes will “help play a role in creating some … memories.” She also continues to chug along on her Speak Now Tour , which crisscrosses the continent before coming to a close at the end of November with a pair of sold-out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Selena Gomez Goes Gangster In MTV EMA Promo

‘People know who the eff I is,’ the show’s host raps in a video for next month’s MTV Europe Music Awards. By James Montgomery Selena Gomez When Selena Gomez served as MTV News’ special correspondent at the Video Music Awards Pre-Show in August, she was polite, professional and, as far as we can tell, did not utter a single profanity (she did get kissed by her boyfriend, Justin Bieber , though). But in preparation for her hosting duties at next month’s MTV EMA , she’s decided to change things up a bit, ditching that good-girl image and going hard. At least judging by a brand-new promo for the show, that is. Gomez ties on a bandana and throws on a flannel (only top button buttoned, of course) in the new spot, which spoofs her squeaky-clean image and features the demure actress/singer spitting some (sorta-profane) rhymes. It opens with her in full-blown princess regalia, sitting before a vanity and proclaiming to her reflection ” Finally, I get to host the EMAs … wow!” All of sudden, her thugged-out alter ego appears on the other side of the mirror, tells Selena to “shut her face,” and then launches into a few bars, rapping, “Who else better than me to be hosting the show/ People know who the eff I is/ I’m a pro/ The right time and place for me to be/ Yeah, I’ll say it/ Congratulations to me!” Gangster Gomez (or, as she puts it, “The S-E-L-E-N-A to the Gomez”), then gets all Kanye confessional on the mic, rapping that “Sh–‘s crazy growing up in this industry/ I was still a baby when I hustled up into the scene” and then drops what sounds very much like a solid F-bomb too. Like we said, she goes hard. Of course, the whole thing is a joke — according to a message at the beginning of the spot, “Some of the Selenas in this video are fictional. Any similarities to the actual Selena are purely coincidental” — but, as MTV’s Buzzworthy blog points out, her hip-hop makeover does present a rather unique opportunity for Gomez: Now, perhaps she can drop a mixtape with Shawty Mane, a.k.a. Bieber’s rapping alter ego . We’d totally cop that. The MTV EMA will premiere on Tr3s: MTV, M

Justin Bieber Hopes To Shoot A Movie By Summer

His team is already ‘working on the script,’ Bieber tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Although most of Justin Bieber ‘s time revolves around his music career (he has not one, but two albums in the works ), the young entrepreneur also seems to have designs on a career in Hollywood. Yes, he already hit the big screen with last year’s box-office success “Never Say Never,” but that film was unscripted and a biopic of sorts. When MTV News caught up with Bieber recently during the “MTV First” premiere of his “Mistletoe” video , he revealed that although he has a lot on his plate, he wants to make time to make a movie. “What’s happening is: get off this tour, and then my [holiday] album’s coming out, so I have to go back out and promote that album … and then after that … it’s almost time for my next album, so then everything starts over again,” Bieber told us. “Hopefully next summer I can start on a movie or something,” he snuck in. And although Bieber didn’t divulge exactly what kind of movie he wants to do, he did say that his team is “working on the script.” The 17-year-old teen heartthrob has expressed an interest in pursuing an acting career, particularly after he guest-starred on “CSI” last year, where he received praise from the show’s executive producer and managed to impress everyone in the cast with his work ethic. Bieber has also said he’d love to try out his comedic skills. “[I want] to do a comedy with Will Ferrell, like play his son or something like that,” Bieber said, adding, “What’s up, Will?” What kind of movie role would you like to see Justin in?
