Lady Gaga Premieres New Track In ‘GagaVille’

MTV News gets the lowdown on the partnership between the star and ‘FarmVille’ makers Zynga. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage For her Little Monster gamers, Lady Gaga has hooked up with the makers of “FarmVille” to create “GagaVille,” a campy, cotton-candy-colored, Gaga-fied version of the popular online game. Fans can make their way through “GagaVille” starting on Tuesday (May 17), where they can unlock and stream a new unreleased Born This Way track every day through Thursday. Then, beginning this Friday through the album release day (May 23), players can start to unlock portions of tracks and remixes of songs off the album. “Everything we’ve created has been in collaboration,” Gaga said in a statement about the game. “From giving players a listen to unreleased songs as a reward for game play within ‘FarmVille’ to creating daily experiences in ‘Words With Friends’ that embody the album’s messages and songs. We’ve had a lot of fun developing this program as a unique celebration of the album.” The first new song Gaga is sharing in “GagaVille” is “Marry the Night,” a dance track about the revelry that happens when the sun goes down. ” ‘FarmVille’ players visiting ‘GagaVille’ will see a farm like none other,” Raquel DiSabatino, director of entertainment and media at Zynga, told MTV News. “From planting crystals, to sheep riding motorcycles and special Lady Gaga unicorns, this farm has definitely been ‘Gagafied.’

Ever since Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ announced they would be joining forces to drop a Bad Meets Evil EP on Shady Records this June, hip-hop fans have been buzzing with excitement. This Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, Em and Royce will join MTV News’ Sway Calloway to give us the lowdown on their reunited duo and upcoming EP, Hell: The Sequel . For starters, the rappers reveal which of them is “Bad” and which is “Evil.” “I’m not Royce today: I’m ‘Bad’; [Eminem] is ‘Evil,’ ” Nickel Nine explained on the set of the duo’s upcoming “Fast Lane” video. Eminem added, “For the most part, I like my name, and I think I wanna be ‘Evil.’ We’ve had a debate about this before.” The Detroit MCs formed the duo in 1999 when they appeared together on the track “Bad Meets Evil” on Eminem’s major-label debut, The Slim Shady LP, and released an independent single (with “Nuthin’ to Do,” “Scary Movies” and “I’m King”) on Game Recordings. A feud halted any collaboration for years, but Marshall and Royce have since made peace, and in January it was announced that Royce’s group, Slaughterhouse, was signed to Em’s Shady Records . Hell: The Sequel — featuring production from Mobb Deep’s Havoc, DJ Khalil, Bangladesh and D12 member Denaun Porter — will be released June 14. A sweeping, romantic look at the demise of a relationship is perfectly encapsulated in the Anthony Mandler-directed clip. Rihanna and Mandler are certainly not strangers when it comes to collaborating, having made more than a dozen clips together, ranging from the fun “Only Girl (In the World)” to the dark “Russian Roulette.” When MTV News recently spoke to Mandler, he noted that he and Ri brought out a whole new side to the always-changing singer. “I think it’s something that is so unique about Rihanna whatever she’s doing, whatever character she’s playing, whatever side of herself she’s showing, she’s in it 1,000 percent,” he explained. “They’re all twists and variations on herself, and in each of them, the way she pushes the visual and the way she pushes the styling and the look of it, she really kind of gives them another twist on Rihanna. “And I think the song and the theme of this song, she wanted to obviously show a softer side, a lighter side, one that’s caught in maybe a tumultuous relationship,” he continued. “But not let the tumultuous relationship dominate the visual, really counterbalance it with tension-filled chaotic beauty.” Instead of finding a scenic location on which to shoot the video, they built their own set in order to have control over the elements of the video. Rihanna gave Mandler a “basic foundation,” and from there, he put his magic on what he describes as a “really pure beauty video with a story line underneath.” Having shot both a softer-edge Rihanna and a harder-edged one, Mandler weighed in on which he prefers. “There’s so much variety with her and it’s been such a journey with her,” he said. “It’s hard to say which one I enjoy more than the other. Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill married Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge early Thursday evening at an intimate ceremony held at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. According to People magazine, the couple exchanged vows before an audience of only family members at 5:30 p.m. but have plans to celebrate their nuptials by way of a “big party” at a later date. “It was a perfect day,” Followill said of the event. Followill, 29, met Aldridge, 25, when she appeared in the band’s video for “Use Somebody.” The couple had been together for more than two years when Followill popped the question last September. Nas Talks Making Peace With Mobb Deep’s Prodigy

By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Nas Photo: MTV News The relationship between Queens rappers Prodigy and Nas has had its fair share of ups and downs. There have been collaborations and dis records over the years, and in the new book “My Infamous Life,” Mobb Deep’s Prodigy touched on his relationship with God’s Son, starting with the first time they met during a battle in New York’s Queensbridge housing project. In a recent interview, Prodigy told MTV News how he called Nas to make peace after he was released from his three-year prison bid this past March. During an exclusive sit-down with Sway, the Illmatic rapper spoke about P’s call. “He called me as soon as he got out of jail; he got in touch with me. We talked about some things,” Nas said. “I didn’t know he had a book. He didn’t tell me that. I guess he just wanted to clear the air on some past things that don’t mean anything today.” After patching things up, Nas agreed to collaborate with Prodigy on the Mobb Deep record “Dog Sh–,” which was leaked onto the Internet in April. “I just jumped on the record; put that to the past or whatever ill feelings he had towards me,” Nas told Sway. “I think he was misinformed about things, like I was a negative guy or like I was trying to harm him in any kind of way. I think maybe he just grew up a little bit.” Prodigy was proud to continue the Nas/ Mobb Deep legacy. “When we make songs together, man, it’s another level, it’s incredible music. It just gives you that feeling, like nostalgia almost,” Prodigy said of the Mobb and Nas’ past collaborations. “The music is just real powerful when Mobb Deep and Nas work together. So I said, ‘We gotta keep that feeling going, man. We would be fools to stop doing that because of whatever petty bullsh– that was going on.’ ” With “Dog Sh–” in the can, Nas wasn’t sure if and when any more Mobb Deep collaborations would surface. “At the moment, I just got back into the studio, and my focus right now has been just starting to work on the album, so who knows?” he said. As far as Prodigy’s book, Esco didn’t even know it existed, though he is mentioned in it quite a bit. While Prodigy insists that all of his accounts of Nas were in a positive light, the QB MC doesn’t seemed bothered either way and gave general advice for any would-be authors. “Tell the truth if you’re gonna write a book. Tell the truth to the best of your ability, that’s all I would say to anybody. Lady Gaga’s ‘Edge Of Glory’ Is A ‘Bold Move,’ Co-Producer Says

The Born This Way single dropped earlier this week, and the song’s co-producer, Fernando Garibay, says he’s still “very surprised,” “floored,” even, by the song’s release. “You know what’s crazy, as we were making the record … ‘Born This Way’ is a statement song, but here with ‘Edge of Glory, it’s very personal to her,” he explained. “It is very personal and very real; it’s a real moment. This record is all heart.” Garibay worked on “Edge of Glory” with Gaga and DJ White Shadow , who also revealed some details about the song to MTV News before its release, calling Gaga’s vocal delivery on the track particularly moving. “This song’s had room for her too … this is her natural tone. The vocal was one take,” White Shadow said. “The whole thing from top to bottom was her, just backstage singing it all the way through.” At the pop star’s request, Garibay threw in a heartbeat and made sure during production that it was clear Gaga’s “finding acceptance in the bridge.” He added, “It’s a bold move on her part to put this out there the way it is, where the full version is intact [on the radio]. When was the last time you heard a musical solo sax break in the middle of a song on the radio? It was innovative as a song and it was totally guided by the emotions and the heart. That’s what we did here. She wanted to put sax on it … Her references were E Street Band and Bruce Springsteen, so the isolation of what the sax represents in the music dichotomy, what it represents in the whole spectrum of music,” he said of the saxophone section, which is actually played by E Street’s Clarence Clemmons. “And that’s how we captured that feeling. It’s like that moment of acceptance and letting go. … She said, ‘Dude, there’s no boundary, go all the way.’ Her soft side is just as intense and as emotional as her intense, hands-in-the-air side you see onstage,” he added. Garibay couldn’t even imagine what a video for the song might look like. “We’re all excited,” he said. Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’ Video: The Final Scene Explained

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images There are many memorable moments in Lady Gaga ‘s “Judas” video , but perhaps none is as unexpected as the final scene . Gaga, dressed in a very big wedding dress, is stoned to death. Gaga has done religion before; her “Alejandro” video was filled with religious iconography, causing quite a hubbub last year. Now, perhaps her most moving statement in this religious-themed video is her own death at the end. “The video is so good, it’s an individual interpretation, and as for me, personally, the dress, the wedding dress, you’re the bride, Christ is the bridegroom, and to marry hope, faith, inspiration is ultimately the idea that no matter what anybody says, your purity is in your heart,” co-director Laurieann Gibson told MTV News about the finale. “There’s always tomorrow. There’s always an opportunity to find peace, and it’s pure. She’s pure. You’re pure. I’m pure. And the stones, they’re just from people who judge, and if you’re gonna throw one, then make sure your closet is clean.” The video was shot last month in Los Angeles , and Gibson shared some of the inside details of the shoot with MTV News. “We actually shot the video on the Universal lot, which was amazing,” she recalled. ” … To be theater rats and dance kids from New York, for us to get to a [studio] lot was really magical. We art-directed it, so it was actually bare, and we were able to create ‘New Jerusalem’ and inspire the idea of the biblical inspiration but create it new. “Never stop moving the lens, never lock off, complimenting her with the way she moves,” Gibson added about directing the video. “Making it graceful when she’s strong in her movement, and I particularly loved the stoning scene.” Gibson revealed that there was a concert scene that didn’t make the final cut of the video and said they ended up with an overwhelming amount of material. “There’s so much in the video,” she said. “We got everything we wanted. We actually got more than we could edit. It was very difficult to decide the direction of the edit.” So how does the video fit in to Gaga’s evolution as an artist? “It’s the beginning of another journey,” Gibson offered. ” I think it’s the start of a more powerful and effortless execution and design of a girl with a huge destiny.” What did you think of the “Judas” video? J.Lo talks about the tunes Gaga helped write and produce on her new Love? album. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Jennifer Lopez Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images Jennifer Lopez came onto the scene as a dance princess, throwing millennium parties while “Waiting for Tonight” and frolicking on the beach declaring that “My Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” Well, it’s now 2011 and not that much has changed for J.Lo. She still wants her fans to shake their fannies while she sings about the ups and downs of love. This time around, however, she got some help from this millennium’s biggest pop princess, Lady Gaga — along with frequent Gaga collaborator/producer RedOne — for the just-released Love? album. “I think RedOne’s sound is very specific, but he also can be very individual for each artist that he works with, which I like, but there’s still kind of a commonality in it,” J.Lo said. “But it’s him. He makes a record sound so big and important … When he would play me different tracks and even the beginnings of ideas and when he told me, ‘Actually I worked with Gaga on this,’ and I was like, ‘Really? That’s awesome. Is it OK?’ and he [was] like, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ You know, they write and produce together a lot. So, it was exciting. I kind of just lucked out on that one.” But, there is a lot more to the album than the few tracks featuring Gaga’s golden touch. Love? also is a complete work of art that in a way, Lopez says, she’s been working on for most of her life. “I’ve been making this album maybe for a couple years now,” she said. “It’s been quite a process, but I’ve been saying lately that I’ve been actually making this record since I was 13 years old — the first time I fell in love — because it’s true, all the thoughts and all the things that went into this album were questions and things that I’ve had over the years … Love is a very complex topic and I’ve been singing about it since my first album, and this was kind of the culmination of that.” Sure, J.Lo is not the same girl she was back then, and she knows that. “I wanted to pose some questions and get the dialogue going about love,” she added. “I wanted to make a great dance, rhythmic album, as well … and we did that. Justin Bieber’s Manager Off The Hook For Mall-Stampede Charges

By MTV News staff Justin Bieber Photo: Prince Williams/FilmMagic Justin Bieber’s manager Scott “Scooter” Braun is off the hook for the charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance he received after the chaotic incident with Bieber fans at a Long Island mall in November 2009. According to E! News , the charges against Braun were dropped Friday (May 6) after Bieber agreed to make a public-service announcement for an anti-cyberbullying campaign and his record label, Island Def Jam, pleaded guilty to the ordinance violation and agreed to reimburse the county almost $8,000 to pay its share of the costs associated with the law enforcement and fire marshal response after the melee. All this stems from a Bieber mall appearance that turned into a stampede and injured one fan. Police alleged that Braun failed to properly control the situation at Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, New York, when they ordered him to send a message to Bieber’s fans via Twitter to notify his followers that the event was canceled. Fans of the rising teen superstar were waiting for Bieber to arrive at the mall, where he was set to perform selections from his EP, My World, which had been released earlier in the week. Braun refused to send the message, police said. Instead, authorities contend Braun eschewed safety in favor of publicity. As things got out of hand, police said, Bieber’s Twitter still read, “On my way to Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY to sign and meet fans! I’m pumped. See u there.” After a representative from the singer’s label was arrested, a message from Bieber’s Twitter was sent urging fans to go home. “The event at Roosevelt Mall is cancelled,” he tweeted. “Please go home.
