Lloyd Banks Reveals Fate Of ‘Blue Fridays’ Series

Hunger for More 2 MC tells MTV News he’s going to ‘keep supplying the street,’ but tracks ‘might not drop on Friday.’ Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News Lloyd Banks just dropped his The Hunger for More 2 album on Monday, but the Queens MC says he has no plans to quit releasing free music. MTV News spoke to G-Unit’s Boy Wonder about the fate of his weekly Blue Fridays series, and he told us he has to keep feeding the streets. “As far as the Blue Fridays go, I’m gonna keep going up until the last Friday,” Banks said. “So maybe Black Friday, I’ll stop there, but that’s just that phase. I’ll go into a whole new series — I don’t want to name anything yet — I’m definitely going to keep putting out content, it just might not drop on Friday.” Banks kicked off Blue Fridays in October to help build anticipation for HFM2, the rapper’s first album since signing with G-Unit/EMI after a brief stint as an independent artist. Hunger for More 2 finds the Punch Line King backed by a heavyweight guest list of beatmakers (Ryan Leslie, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League) and features (Raekwon, Pusha T, Styles P). But while the album is now on sale, Banks is primed to ramp up his freebie deliveries. “I think I’ve spoiled people to the point that they expect more than just one song,” Banks said. “Maybe I’ll start dropping two songs a day; I’m definitely not gonna go back to the point where I stop supplying the street. I think that was part of the reason for the resistance, is that people know you’re capable of doing it. It’s like showing your trainer you can do 100 push-ups and then try to do 50 tomorrow.” (No pun intended, of course.) Are you excited for Banks to start up another series? Black Eyed Peas Plan Stadium-Heavy 2011 Tour

Group may hit the road ‘after February,’ will.i.am tells Billboard. By Mawuse Ziegbe Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am Photo: David Livingston/Getty Images The Black Eyed Peas are planning to rock as many bodies as possible when they hit the road next year, so they’re hoping to pack their trek into massive venues around the world. Peas frontman will.i.am told Billboard that the foursome’s recent South American gigs will be the blueprint for filling the seats in stadiums across the globe. “South America was a test,” he said. “We did all our homework … to try to figure out how we can do stadiums in other countries, in America, in Europe. If Black Eyed Peas can do five O2 arenas, why don’t we just do it in one shot? If we can do three Staples Centers, we should do one Dodgers Stadium. So that’s how we’ll probably tour this time around.” “The Time (Dirty Bit)” MC said rocking to the collective’s pop smashes with thousands of other revelers is the best way to experience the Peas live. “It’s like you’re there with all your friends. You’re there in front of 50,000 people and they’re there to watch you and your friends,” he said. “Nothing gets any better than that. It’s the best feeling, the best one yet.” The band is expected to get in some practice hitting the stage for a major crowd at the top of next year. Sources have revealed that the Peas will helm halftime-show festivities at the Super Bowl , which often draws over 100 million viewers. Will’s comment that the hitmaking quartet won’t launch their global stadium takeover until “after February,” the same month the Super Bowl airs, is perhaps a hint that the Peas will be throwing down at the football-fest. The Peas’ sixth record, The Beginning, is slated to be released November 30. Are you looking forward to checking out the Black Eyes Peas on tour? Let us know in the comments! Nicki Minaj Calls ‘Roman’s Revenge’ With Eminem Her ‘Coming-Out Record’

MC plays coy when asked by Power 105’s DJ Clue who the blistering Pink Friday track is aimed at. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images When Nicki Minaj was wrapping up Pink Friday, there was one last song she needed to finish: a track Swizz Beatz had sent her way that she was having trouble finishing. But after securing Eminem for what would become “Roman’s Revenge,” she was able to breathe easy. “That was my coming-out record,” she told Power 105 radio host DJ Clue in an interview airing later Tuesday night (November 23). All the pressure of putting together her album was in the past by the time she recorded “Roman’s Revenge,” Minaj said, so she was free. She secured Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna and more A-listers for the project, but the Queens lyricist more than held her own. On the blistering track, she delivers jaw-dropping lines that many have translated as an attack against Lil’ Kim . But the femcee has downplayed the tension between the two, letting the track speak for itself. When Clue pressed her about the reason for the rift during the interview, Minaj said she has moved beyond any lingering issues the two may have had. “I don’t even want to discuss it anymore,” she said. “That’s water under the bridge. I don’t think about it, only when people bring it up.” Nicki was a little more aggressive when asked about Kim in an interview Monday with New York’s Hot 97. “When you see Gaga, you see Madonna — but Madonna never hated on Gaga,” Nicki said. “Why in the black community we gotta hate on each other instead of saying, ‘Thank you for showing me love, thank you for keeping my name alive’? The same way she opened doors for me, I’m opening doors for her. Nobody was playin’ your music and you damn sure couldn’t get an interview to save your life. You getting interviews, and every time you do interviews they’re asking you about Nicki Minaj. So it’s like we help each other. That’s the point, we’re helping each other. But if you are bitter, get a life.” Don’t miss the documentary “Nicki Minaj: My Time Now,” premiering Sunday, November 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! Dr. Dre Is ‘Constantly Working,’ Producer Alex Da Kid Says

‘Love the Way You Lie’ producer tells MTV News he met Dre through his sessions with Eminem. By James Dinh, with reporting by Tim Kash Alex Da Kid Photo: MTV News After years of working on his long-awaited album Detox, Dr. Dre is the epitome of a perfectionist. In addition to some rumored collaborations , the super-producer, who is set to drop the LP early next year, has been logging studio sessions with the industry’s newest hitmaker, Alex Da Kid. When MTV News caught up with the British producer at the American Music Awards on Sunday, he revealed that the duo were introduced through Eminem, who worked with Kid on the Rihanna-assisted “Love the Way You Lie.” When asked about Dre’s forthcoming project, the producer remained tight-lipped, joking, “I’m not allowed to say too much because I will get shot and killed. They have snipers on the rooftop as we speak.” Despite working with Em, Rihanna and other music staples, Kid admitted that the biggest challenge when working with the West Coast icon was overcoming his “fear of getting in the studio with such a perfectionist.” Once the duo met, Kid said his anxiety melted away. “He’s been working at this for 11 years, but once you get over that, he’s like the nicest guy ever. I can’t describe how nice he is,” he said, adding, “He just makes you feel comfortable and easy.” As a newcomer within the industry, the 27-year-old music mind said Dre’s secret to success boils down to his work ethic. “I think, basically, he works harder than everybody I know,” he said. “He’s constantly just working. I think that’s what it takes to be successful in anything, not just producing.” Detox may not be out until early next year, but fans have already gotten a taste of Dre’s Alex Da Kid-produced material, including “I Need a Doctor.” The track, which features Eminem, hit the Internet last Wednesday. The collabo coincidentally finds Slim Shady giving Dre a musical reality check about his perfectionist goals. Who else do you hope Dr. Dre will collaborate with on Detox ? Tell us in the comments! Kanye West, Justin Bieber Join Tradition Of Mega-Release Weeks

This isn’t the first time labels have loaded the shelves with new releases all at once. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker Kanye West Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images The sheer volume of mainstream albums dropping this week makes our head spin like that ancient artifact, the vinyl record. Monday saw the release of Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday, Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Ke$ha’s Cannibal, Jay-Z’s The Hits Collection Vol. 1, Lloyd Banks’ Hunger for More 2 and My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. And Friday is the big day for Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic. Many may wonder why the big wigs of the music industry would put out such a gargantuan selection all at once. But there’s a precedent for this kind of strategy. In fact, music lovers have been through this very same overload dilemma a handful of times over the last decade. Here’s a look back at some of them: September 11, 2001 became a national tragedy, it was supposed to be a huge day for the music business. Mariah Carey’s “Glitter” soundtrack, Jay-Z’s Blueprint, Bob Dylan’s Love and Theft, Ben Folds’ Rockin’ the Suburbs, Nickelback’s Silver Side Up and P.O.D.’s Satellite were among the many albums that were released at the beginning of the week. November 18, 2003 marked the start to one of the year’s biggest music release weeks. The range of albums seemed to hit every demographic imaginable. Releases included Britney Spears’ In the Zone, Blink-182’s self-titled fifth studio album, Timbaland & Magoo’s Under Construction, Part II, Christmas albums from Whitey Houston and Ashanti, compilations from Michael Jackson, Moby and Joe Satriani, and live albums/DVDs from Dave Matthews Band and Linkin Park. Following the pattern of Thanksgiving week album releases, November 22, 2004 began another big week. Two “American Idol” winners, Fantasia and Ruben Studdard went head-to-head with Free Yourself and I Need an Angel, respectively. The shelves were also packed with U2’s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, Gwen Stefani’s solo debut Love. Angel. Music. Baby., as well as other releases from Creed, Anthrax, Evanescence, Nirvana and Jessica Simpson. September 12, 2006 was the drop date of Justin Timberlake’s second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, which produced five smash hit singles. That week John Mayer’s Continuum and Bob Seger’s Face the Promise were released, and both eventually went platinum. Other albums and compilations came from the Mars Volta, Papa Roach, Lionel Richie, Veruca Salt, Everclear, and the Barenaked Ladies. On September 11, 2007 after threatening to retire from music if his album Curtis was outsold, 50 Cent came in second to Kanye West’s Graduation. And though he wasn’t included in the 50 Cent Challenge, Kenny Chesney’s Just Who I Am: Pirates and Poets was released the same day and sold very well. The date also marked the release of Animal Collective’s Strawberry Jam, which didn’t exactly pose a threat. One of the wildest weeks of 2009’s album drop calendar was easily that of November 16 . Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster, Justin Bieber’s My World, Leona Lewis’ Echo, OneRepublic’s Waking Up, Kris Allen’s self-titled debut, Norah Jones’ The Fall, and compilations from both Janet Jackson and Fall Out Boy were some of the new additions to the music scene. Justin Bieber Calls Lil Twist His ‘Homey’

‘We’re working on stuff for fun,’ singer say of upcoming mixtape with teen rapper. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ AMA2010/ FilmMagic Justin Bieber has been known to dabble in the world of rap. Not only does he perform the rap portion of “Baby” when he sings the song live — since Ludacris isn’t always available to hit the stage with the singer — he even dropped a rap song this fall under the rap pseudonym Shawty Mane in which he raps over Vado and Cam’ron’s “Speaking in Tungs.” Now fans are waiting for what Bieber and Young Money MC Lil Twist will share with the world on their mixtape, some of which Lil Twist teased might drop very soon. When MTV News caught up with Bieber on Sunday at the American Music Awards , he said he had no further details to share about the collaboration. “I don’t know man,” he said, with a smile on his face. “Lil Twist is my homey and we’re working on stuff for fun.” Of course, even if the mixtape never sees the light of day, Bieber has plenty of projects already under way, including the releases of My Worlds Acoustic this Friday and his 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” next year. “I think this is only the beginning,” he said. “There’s so much more to come and I just hope that I have the career that Usher, my mentor, has had.” It’s a sentiment that Usher shares. “There’s so much more in store for the future, or at least there’s a ton of things we can do and will,” he said. “And with the support of his fans, who will continue to just grow and grow and grow.” Related Photos Justin Bieber’s AMA Night Related Artists Justin Bieber

My Chemical Romance Celebrate Danger Days’ Release Live From L.A.

Album-release concert will stream live on MTV.com starting at 10 p.m. ET tonight! By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero and Gerard Way Photo: MTV News HOLLYWOOD — My Chemical Romance went to the brink and back to make their new album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. So, as you can probably imagine, on Monday (November 22) — the day Killjoys hit stores — they were in the mood to celebrate. And how did they go about doing that? By buying their album, of course. “Me and Mikey [Way] went and bought it earlier today,” guitarist Frank Iero laughed. “It’s kind of a tradition.” And with their very own copies of the album in hand, MCR headed over to the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard, where they’ll throw a rather raucous album-release party — they set up a carnival and everything — and play a sold-out show for their fanatical MCRmy. (You can watch it too: My Chemical Romance’s “Live From L.A.: Killjoys Make Some Noise” will stream live on MTV.com beginning at 10 p.m. ET.) Outside the building, the mood was already electric, as fans lined up around the block to rush the stage. And inside, the mood was about the same: Guitar techs mashed out chords, stage hands hoisted MCR’s massive “Killjoys” American flag to the rafters, and the guys in the band, well, they were practically buzzing with excitement. They’ve already tested Danger Days out on audiences in Europe and the U.K., but on Monday night, they’ll debut the songs for fans here in the States. And they couldn’t wait to get up on the stage and let it rip. “Usually, there’s an awkward period right before you release a new record … but on this record, or at least these tours, there’s been no awkwardness,” Iero said. “It feels like the material has a place, and there’s an innate feeling where it’s like, ‘Man, it feels like I’ve known this all along.’ ” It’s a feeling MCR haven’t had in a while. They’ve made it through the hard part, and now, rejuvenated by a brand-new album and a renewed sense of purpose, they’re ready to share that feeling with their fans. “It really feels like freedom. I feel like a totally different individual up there, I feel like I’m really myself,” frontman Gerard Way beamed. “I feel like I don’t have a giant sandbag on my back. I feel like, it’s like pulling a mask [off] and showing somebody who you really are. It’s like getting rid of your secret identity.” My Chemical Romance’s “Live From LA: Killjoys Make Some Noise” will stream live on MTV.com beginning at 10 p.m. ET. Open the floodgates! Usher Most Admires Justin Bieber’s ‘Excitement And Innocence’

Bieber’s mentor tells MTV News the teen sensation has ‘so much more in store for the future.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Usher and Justin Bieber at the 2010 AMAs Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images With so much accomplished in 2010, Justin Bieber has certainly set the bar high for 2011. But the teen singer is already gearing up for next year. Bieber will not only release his much-anticipated 3-D flick, “Never Say Never” , but he has also teased that he’d like to release an album of all-new material sometime later next year. His mentor, Usher , thinks that at this point, the sky’s the limit. “As far as music and entertainment, that’s the beginning,” Usher told MTV News at Sunday’s AMAs, where Bieber performed and took home four awards . “There’s so much more in store for the future, or at least there’s a ton of things we can do and will, and with the support of his fans who will continue to just grow and grow and grow.” At 16, Bieber has accomplished what few manage with many more years in the music business, but Usher said he wants to ensure that Bieber doesn’t stop enjoying it all as his popularity continues to grow and his schedule gets busier. Asked what he admires most about Justin, Usher said, “His excitement and innocence in it. And I don’t mean that in a light way because I think that he’s absolutely enjoying every moment of it, as any young man his age would, but in a different way because [of] the hard work that has gone in and led to the dream that has become a reality. And every time you have an opportunity do something incredible, I tell him to do his best and be conscious that what you’re doing today should last forever and eternity.” What did you think of Justin’s AMA performance on Sunday?
