Justin Bieber To Perform ‘Pray’ At American Music Awards

‘It’s very uplifting, very motivational,’ he tells Ryan Seacrest of his new song. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Gary Miller/ WireImage Justin Bieber is set to perform at the American Music Awards on Sunday, and the teen superstar has revealed he’ll be playing his new song, “Pray.” “I don’t know if it’s out there … I’m performing ‘Pray,’ ” he told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Wednesday (November 17). “It’s a very uplifting song, very motivational. It definitely comes from the heart. It’s very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson’s] ‘Man in the Mirror’ when I was writing it.” Bieber also talked about his new album, My Worlds Acoustic, out next week. On the show he teased a small portion of the acoustic version of “Favorite Girl.” “I think that there’s always going to be people that try to bring you down and you just got to prove them wrong,” he said of the album. “I’m just blessed to have devoted fans. My fans just kind of spoil me.” The singer talked about his 2011 3-D flick, “Never Say Never,” saying that “it really shows me.” And he dished about a recent dinner outing with Rihanna . “I don’t know. We all went out for dinner, the label and everybody, and Rihanna was there,” he recalled. “Me and her sat together. I said a couple lines to her. I was just being funny. I don’t remember how it came up, but she was like, ‘You have abs? Show ’em!’ So I did, and she tweeted [about it].” Bieber also talked to Seacrest about wanting to work again with Kanye West , who remixed his “Runaway Love” track. “For sure! He’s a great guy,” he explained. “He’s really cool to work with and his music just speaks for itself. I heard his new album. It’s incredible.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Bieber Related Photos 2010 American Music Awards Presenter, Nominee And Performer Highlights Related Artists Justin Bieber

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday Leaks Online

Rapper’s debut LP hits Web less than a week early. By Jayson Rodriguez Nicki Minaj Photo: Jeffrey Ufberg/ WireImage Pink Friday came even earlier than expected. Nicki Minaj’s debut album leaked online on Wednesday (November 17), less than a week before its scheduled release date. The project was originally slated to arrive on Friday (November 19) before shifting to November 23 and then finally settling on November 22. The Pink Friday tracks floating on the Web include collaborations between Nicki Minaj and A-list artist like Kanye West, Rihanna and Drake . On “Fly,” featuring Rihanna and produced by J.R. Rotem (Sean Kingston, Nicole Scherzinger), Nicki Minaj rhymes about chasing dreams over the slow, tickling number. “Such a heavy burden placed upon me,” Nicki raps. “But when you go hard, you name becomes yays, Yankee stadium with Jays and Kanyes.” “This song is a female empowerment song,” the female lyricist wrote earlier this week in her Pink Friday Diaries Facebook journal. “But then again, it’s not specific to just women. It speaks about flying, soaring high in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way. I speak about how the media has attempted to box me in and how that has made me feel suffocated.” The Harajuku Barbie and new GQ Man of the Year Drake trade rhymes on “Moment 4 Life,” where the Toronto lyricist continues to stoke the flames of the two Lil Wayne prot

‘Green Lantern’: The Movie That Could Have Been

Superhero flick could have been a Quentin Tarantino movie starring Jack Black or T.I. By Eric Ditzian Photo: DC Comics “The ring, it chose you,” Ryan Reynolds is told in the new “Green Lantern” trailer . That is true. People ‘s Sexiest Man Reynolds did finally land the role of Hal Jordan in the DC Comics adaptation. But the path that led to his casting was a circuitous one. Did you know Jack Black was once considered for the part? That the flick was once set to shoot in Australia? That Quentin Tarantino was actually offered the director’s job? Oh, what could have been … Kevin Smith, for example, was once approached to helm a Green Lantern movie. Clearly, that would have been a more comedic take on the property. As would the installment that Black was eyeing. “It would have been a comedy, and I don’t know, maybe they didn’t want to go that way with the character,” Black told MTV News back in 2007. “You don’t see a lot of the superheroes as comedies. Batman, Superman, Spider-man — they’re all pretty straight-up. I was going to be capturing bad guys with green, giant prophylactics. Some funny stuff.” As part of a potential Justice League film, the character was rumored to have been offered to everyone from Common to T.I. to Tyrese Gibson. And for a solo flick, “Everwood” creator Greg Berlanti was once tapped to direct, while “Watchmen” helmer Zack Snyder and Tarantino were approached for the gig. “I was offered the ‘Green Lantern,’ ” Tarantino revealed to MTV News. “Not since it’s been a script, but just like, ‘Hey we own the “Green Lantern.” Would you like it?’ ” By early ’09, Warner Bros. had announced that “Green Lantern” would hit theaters on December 17, 2010. Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”) would direct and the film would shoot in Australia with a reported budget of $150 million. But who would be Jordan? Early rumors touched on names like Ryan Gosling, Brian Austin Green , “Gossip Girl” star Matthew Settle and “Star Trek” stars Chris Pine and Anton Yelchin . The three front-runners eventually became Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Reynolds . “I did get a chance to try out for it, which was amazing to even get a chance,” Cooper said later. “Ryan Reynolds got it — who, by the way, if I was directing the movie, I would cast him. He’s perfect. He actually looks like a superhero.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Kanye West’s Dark Twisted Fantasy: Move On, Or Get Out Of The Way

The story may have begun on September 13, 2009, but it ends with West’s thrilling, chilling opus, in Bigger Than the Sound. By James Montgomery Kanye West Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage I was there the night Kanye West started writing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. It was September 13, 2009, at the MTV Video Music Awards. You probably remember what happened that night . Anyway, I was there, standing about 200 feet from West when he bolted onstage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. I heard the gasps from the celebs sitting around him and the boos from the folks up in the cheap seats. I saw him flip them the bird, stride defiantly back to his seat, throw his arm around Amber Rose. I saw Pink walk by the couple during a commercial break, say something pointed and shake her head in disgust, while her security guards tried in vain to shuffle her along. I watched as West was escorted out into the wings of Radio City Music Hall, up a flight of stairs, where huddled members of MTV’s brass (like my bosses’ bosses’ bosses) were waiting. I didn’t hear what was said after that, but I could tell it was tense, because I was specifically told to move on by a pair of security guards in black suits who clearly weren’t up for negotiation. So, yes, I was there the night Fantasy was conceived, even if West wasn’t actually scribbling down lyrics or punching drum patterns into an MPC at the time (how could he do all that and still hold his Hennessy Black?). It was the moment when ‘Ye became the most-hated man in America, a rapping amalgamation of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Alex Rodriguez and that terrible toddler you always see in the grocery store. The implications of his VMA tantrum were so far-reaching that our current president called him “a jackass” and our 39th president ripped his behavior as “completely uncalled for.” In retrospect, the whole thing seems pretty ridiculous, but at the time, it was the biggest scandal on the planet, and ‘Ye spent the next few months apologizing (and apologizing and apologizing ) for what he had done … even if, you know, what he said during his tirade was sort of right. It didn’t matter. He was vilified. He became a laughingstock, a cautionary tale. People whispered that he was headed for rehab. Instead, West decided to go into seclusion. The story refused to die. So one day, somewhere in Hawaii (or India ) or wherever he was holed up, Kanye made a decision: He was done apologizing. He was finished hiding. And he didn’t care what Donald Trump or Jimmy Carter had to say about him. Not anymore. And that’s when he decided to welcome us all into his Dark Twisted Fantasy. The story may have begun on September 13, 2009, but it ends right now. Because Fantasy is most definitely the last word, the final chapter. And, no, Kanye’s not saying he’s sorry, not even once. It is less an act of contrition than it is a declaration of independence, an unapologetic, unflinching ode to excess and depravity, a sweeping ride through thrilling highs and crushing lows, a blow-by-blow account of one man’s battle to find not only himself but a balance between the immediacy of sexuality and the long-term ledger of spirituality. It is a garish theatrical spectacle, a production filled with angels and demons, ghosts and Greek choruses, kings and pharaohs, judges, juries and executioners. In other words, it is a pretty apt summation of the past 14 months of Kanye West’s life: an over-the-top, too-ridiculous-to-be-real spectacle that never seemed to end. Which is why everything on Fantasy seems to be pushed to the breaking point — and then pushed even further beyond. The beats are badder, the boasts bigger. The women are looser and the cars faster. The stakes are higher and the temperature hotter. West can’t get higher or lower, angrier or hornier, steadier or more unhinged. It is a thrilling, chilling listen, not only the most jaw-dropping accomplishment of his already stellar career, but the most personal too. West has been surrounded and suffocated, tormented and judged, and he’s smart enough to know that he’s powerless to change the tide of public opinion. So instead, he’s just going to explain himself. “Take it or leave it, believe it or not,” he seems to be saying with Fantasy, “But here is who I am and this is why I do what I do.” That fearlessness, that honesty is what makes Fantasy such an incredible album. It is defiantly anti-reconciliatory. There are no olive branches extended, and if you hate Kanye for every tantrum he’s thrown and you’re past the point of forgiveness, then you are most definitely going to skip his new album. And it will be your loss. The bald-faced swagger of tracks like “Monster” or Power,” the complex fragility of “Runaway” or “Blame Game,” the lyrical scope of “Hell of a Life” or “Gorgeous,” it’s an embarrassment of riches and a dazzling array of accomplishments, though perhaps the most dazzling is this: With My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West has closed the book, he has moved past his detractors, and he’s done it by going deep, by being brave and bold and, yes, probably a little crazy too. Move on or get the hell out of the way because Kanye is done apologizing for what he did. Finally. Do you think Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy represents his best work to date? B.o.B’s ‘Don’t Let Me Fall’ Video Premieres

T.I. makes an appearance in trippy new clip. By Paul Cantor B.o.B in his music video for “Don’t Let Me Fall” Photo: Atlantic B.o.B’s new video for “Don’t Let Me Fall,” the fourth clip from the Atlanta rapper’s debut LP, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, premiered midnight Tuesday (November 16) on MTV.com. The video was directed by Ethan Lander, who also manned the lens for B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You,” and was shot in downtown Denver and at Red Rocks Park and Ampitheatre. The clip weaves in footage from B.o.B’s humble beginnings and follows him as he rises up the ranks in rap’s food chain. Supporters, from manager TJ Chapman to T.I., who executive-produced B.o.B’s debut LP and released it on his Grand Hustle imprint, are also included in the footage. It’s appropriate, considering the song is a “thank you” of sorts to those who’ve supported him. The lyrics find B.o.B singing, “Well it was just a dream, just a moment ago/ I was up so high, lookin’ down at the sky, don’t let me fall/ I was shooting for stars on a Saturday night/ They say, ‘What goes up must come down’/ But don’t let me fall.” The video opens with B.o.B sitting upright on a bench, which seems to be lying on the floor. The world is moving around him, as if he’s fallen. Throughout the video, the aforementioned early clips play on an old tube television sitting next to the rapper. B.o.B recites his lines in performance shots set against the rocky terrain of Red Rocks Park and in the open space of the amphitheater. Later, he’s shown hanging sideways from a parking meter on the sidewalk. People walking by fall around him, but he’s unable to get up on his own. In the final verse, a band joins him, and they’re all lying horizontally on the sidewalk, playing the song with B.o.B strumming a guitar. At the end of the video, he stands upright of his own accord and walks away. Last month, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust voted B.o.B. the #9 Hottest MC in the Game . Jay-Z Says ‘Kanye Spoke What Everyone Felt’ During Hurricane Katrina

Jay tells NPR he finds it ‘strange’ the lowest point of George W. Bush’s presidency was ‘somebody talking about him.’ By Kara Warner Jay-Z Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images Jay-Z continued to promote his new book, “Decoded,” on Tuesday (November 16) with an interview on NPR’s “Fresh Air,” where he addressed many topics, including former President George W. Bush’s recent comments about Jay’s good friend Kanye West. Bush’s admission that West’s Hurricane Katrina rant was the low point of his presidency struck Jay-Z as odd. “First, I find it strange, like everyone else should, that one of his lowest points was somebody talking about him,” Jay-Z said of Kanye’s infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” comment. “He’s the president. People should insult him a lot. That’s part of the job description.” He went on to reiterate an excerpt from “Decoded” in which he talks about how the mishandling of the rescue/relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina affected him. “It didn’t feel like a natural disaster; it felt like it was happening directly to blacks, and immediately those images of people in suits getting beaten, sprayed with hoses, beaten on the bridge at Selma, all these emotions were going on inside of us,” Jay said. “Kanye really spoke what everyone else felt.” The NPR interviewer also asked Jay for his evaluation of President Obama’s work thus far, and he said Bush’s legacy — “the worst eight years of our life” — was a big obstacle for Obama to overcome. “I think he’s had so many challenges,” he said. “I applaud his efforts and where he’s going. Of course, it’s not 100 percent, but you have to take into context what he inherited and what he’s working with. He’s in the negative, and if you think he can fix eight years of damage in two years, I don’t know if that’s realistic.” Do you agree with Jay-Z about President Bush’s comments? Bruno Mars Drags A Piano In ‘Grenade’ Video Sneak Peek

Clip premieres Friday on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV.com and VH1.com. By James Montgomery Bruno Mars in the sneak peek of his “Grenade” video Photo: Elektra Records Bruno Mars’ new video for “Grenade” doesn’t premiere until Friday, but you can catch a sneak peek of the clip right now — and from the looks of things, it’s gonna be a pretty heavy affair. “The concept of the video is my struggle, to tell this girl I’d do anything for her,” Mars said in a behind-the-scenes video posted Monday, “So I’m going as far as dragging a piano to get to her just so I can sing my heart out.” He’s not kidding, either. In the video, Mars pulls an upright piano through the streets of Los Angeles, stopping traffic, drawing the ire of gangbangers and very nearly getting devoured by a pit bull. He does it all while ducking real-life paparazzi and wearing a suit too, just to impress the girl of his dreams (who is not, it should be noted, the titular grenade, because that would be a little too “Jersey Shore”). And, yes, it’s all hard work. “I shoulda been dragging a harmonica across town,” Mars laughed. The “Grenade” video premieres Friday on MTV, MTV2, mtvU and MTV Hits, and online at MTV.com and VH1.com. You should probably watch; after all, Mars basically killed himself making the thing. “A lot of people think this is a camera trick, but that is a heavy piano,” he laughed. “Luckily, I’ve been doing about, you know, 800 to 967 push-ups every day, so it’s not a big deal, I can handle it. Been workin’ on my bi’s, my tri’s, my clies and my thighs, that’s just what it is.” Are you looking forward to the “Grenade” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Bruno Mars

Paramore’s ‘Playing God’ Video: Coming Home, Coming Full Circle

New clip was shot at Hayley Williams’ house in Franklin, Tennessee. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams in “Playing God” Photo: Fueled By Ramen Paramore’s Brand New Eyes was released nearly 14 months ago, spawned something like five singles, sent the band around the world and went gold in the U.S. All that is the prologue to their new “Playing God” video, which — though it never expressly states as much — feels very much like the band coming full circle, tying up loose ends and probably putting Eyes to bed for good. Of course, I’m just speculating about all that. It’s entirely possible Paramore may still wring a single or two out of Eyes, but I sort of doubt it. Especially since everything involving the “Playing God” clip — which premiered Tuesday (November 16) on the band’s website — seems to suggest otherwise. It was shot entirely at frontwoman Hayley Williams’ house in Franklin, Tennessee, the same house she gave MTV News a tour of last year, in the week leading up to Eyes ‘ release. There are moments — particularly those that feature her bandmates tied up in her basement, a single light bulb dangling over their heads — that recall the video for “Ignorance,” which was the first single from the album (and was also shot, in part, at Williams’ house). In one scene, Williams can be seen examining old band photos, and in another, she performs in front of the mirrors that not only hang in her guest room, but adorn the back cover of Eyes (they were bought at the Franklin Goodwill , BTW). The message — at least to me — appears clear: Paramore are returning home, looking back, wrapping things up. “Playing God” is a bittersweet, sentimental thing, a scrapbook of the past year of their lives, and the final chapter in the Brand New Eyes saga. It’s a story that began with the band’s future severely in doubt and concludes with them stronger, happier and better than ever. So if “God” really is the end of the BNE line, well, then it’s a fitting farewell. It’s time for the band to turn the page, to move on. It was a heck of an album and a heck of a ride, and I can’t wait to see where they go from here. What did you think of the “Playing God” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Paramore

Kelly Rowland Responds To Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Lyric

‘To hear him say that, I was just kinda blown away,’ Rowland says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kelly Rowland Photo: Evan Agostini/ Getty Images As a founding member of one of the biggest girl groups ever, Destiny’s Child, one would think that Kelly Rowland is used to getting attention. However, a lyric in Kanye West’s single “Power” has brought the Grammy-winning star even more shine than she bargained for. “The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open/ We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, Motha—-er, we rollin’/ Huh? Motha—-er, we rollin’/ With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands,” ‘Ye spits on the track. In an interview with Complex.com , the R&B diva said the line from the popular song has even changed how her pals approach her. “My friends sometimes greet me like that now, which is really weird,” Rowland giggled, after reciting the lyric her homegirls apparently start spitting when they meet up with the singer. As far as West, Rowland said she was taken aback by the shout-out, which pegs her as a standard of beauty. “To hear him say that, I was just kinda blown away. Dang, no pressure, Kanye,” Rowland quipped. Of course, ‘Ye isn’t the first lyricist to look to Rowland to lend some sizzle to a project. The singer appeared in 50 Cent’s 2009 video “Baby by Me” as a devoted, yet still crazy glamorous, housewife raising a brood of mini 50s. Before the video dropped, Fif explained to MTV News that he coaxed Rowland into appearing in the clip at the last minute because he felt she brought the star power he needed for the Before I Self Destruct visual. “Kelly was getting ready to fly back to Miami. I was lucky enough to catch her. I kinda begged my way into her doing it,” 50 said. “I didn’t want to do the normal video situation, where you have the vixen or somebody no one knows from anywhere. I think it intensifies the whole song.” Do you have a favorite line from Kanye West’s “Power”? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Kelly Rowland Kanye West
