Michael Cera Recalls Hanging With ‘Jersey Shore’ Cast

‘We got drunk … and danced and got in a hot tub and ate pizza,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena Michael Cera in the hot tub after his “Jersey Shore” makeover Photo: MTV News While he’s made a splash in a string of lovable, if nerdy, roles, Michael Cera took on a new part of sorts earlier this year when he allowed the cast of the “Jersey Shore” to give him a very special, personalized makeover. Now, in a new interview with Playboy, the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” star recounts the time he spent with Snooki, the Situation and rest of the crew. “Actually, it was one of the most pleasant days I’ve had in a long time,” Cera says in the magazine’s August issue . “We got drunk and laughed and danced and got in a hot tub and ate pizza. It was sort of like my 8th birthday party.” While he has no plans to resurrect his “guido” look anytime soon, next up, Cera will star in August 13’s “Scott Pilgrim,” and he addresses critics who say his onscreen work tends to appeal, a bit too much maybe, those living in nerd-land. “I would say this movie is both a nerd and a non-nerd’s dream come true. For the nerds, there are lots of Nintendo references and sound effects, and the non-nerds will enjoy making fun of all the nerds in the theater exploding with joy, and afterward, will possibly beat them all up.” When talk turned to his “Scott Pilgrim” co-star Anna Kendrick, Cera readily responds to the question of how he stacks up against Kendrick’s “Up in the Air” leading man, George Clooney. ” ‘Natural transition’ is not the phrase I would use. ‘Handsome transition’ seems to be a better phrase to encapsulate what that lucky girl has experienced,” Cera joked. “Unfortunately, Anna and I got to work together for only one day,” he continued. “Though she plays my sister in the movie, one of our biggest scenes together takes place over the phone, and we shot our respective sides of the conversation at completely different times on the shooting schedule. She regrets that we weren’t able to spend more time together,” he added. “We got close enough for me to feel comfortable in assuming that.” Do you think Michael Cera should revive his “Jersey Shore” look? Pink Says She Will Perform Friday After Onstage Injury In Germany

‘I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl,’ singer tweets after falling into stage barrier Thursday night. By Jocelyn Vena Pink (file) Photo: Andy Sheppard/Redferns Pink had a bit of a scare during one of her high-flying stunts at a show in Nuremberg, Germany, on Thursday, when she fell into a stage barrier and was immediately rushed to the hospital. According to her Twitter updates from the hospital, however, she didn’t break anything and was “just seriously sore.” “Okay. Full steam ahead, people,” she tweeted on Friday morning (July 16), apparently determined to perform the same day in Salem, Germany. “No pain, no gain. Or is it no brain, no pain? Either way, I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl:)” During the opening bars of her hit “So What,” a video posted online shows dancers helping Pink into her harness. “Shall we do it?” she asks the crowd. “I can’t hear y’all! Are y’all ready?” Then, she shouts “No! No!” as the wires pull her off the stage and she falls into the crowd. The music stops, as Pink says from beyond the camera’s view, “Oh, f—, that hurt like a mother—-er. Sorry.” Although the crowd’s cheers die down considerably, some fans can still be heard screaming for the pop star while her crew and dancers work to figure out what is wrong with the singer. Eventually, after some moments pass, Pink is able to get up and make her way back on the stage where she still seems visibly in pain. At press time, a rep for the singer had not returned MTV News’ request for comment regarding her current condition or the status of Friday’s show. But Pink’s husband, Carey Hart, wrote on Twitter that she has already been released from the hospital and seemed confident that she would be ready for the concert. “She [will] better feel better soon, she has a show tomorrow!” he tweeted . “No, sriously, she is good. Just super banged up. One tough girl.” As for Pink, she is keeping in good spirits about the injury. After Hart wrote about her encounter with the barrier, she made light of the situation, writing, “Nooo! I WON!! RT @hartluck: Fyi@pink out of the hospital+ all good. Just got the shit kicked out of her by the barrier. Steel barrier-1 Pink-0.” Leave your well-wishes for Pink in the comments! Related Artists P!nk

Weezer Say New LP Will Have ‘More Raw Rock Energy’

Still-untitled album due in September. By Kyle Anderson Weezer Photo: Geffen Weezer once let five years lapse between albums (1996’s Pinkterton and 2001’s Weezer, a.k.a. The Green Album ), but lately the group has become one of the more prolific outfits in rock. Less than a year removed from 2009’s Raditude, Weezer will put out their still-untitled eighth studio LP on September 13. According to frontman Rivers Cuomo, it won’t be business as usual for the veteran band. “There’s definitely going to be more raw rock energy on this one,” he told The News-Times, a paper based out of Danbury, Connecticut, not far from where Cuomo grew up. “I’ve spent the entire morning trying to come up with a name for the record. How does Heavy Mental sound?” The new album will mark the band’s first release away from Geffen Records, which originally signed Weezer and has put out all of their previous releases. “We don’t know what format these recordings are going to come out on,” Cuomo told MTV2’s “Subterranean” last year. “Is it going to be an old-fashioned CD put out by a record label? Is it going to be something that is only online? Is it going to be a shorter album — eight songs — or is it going to be a longer album — 20 songs? We don’t know. When the time comes, we’ll see what’s behind the next door.” Weezer’s eighth album also promises to have the same collaborative spirit as Raditude, which featured contributions from Lil Wayne, Dr. Luke and the All-American Rejects. Cuomo already said he was working with Ryan Adams , and other potential contributors include Katy Perry (with whom Rivers worked on her album Teenage Dream ) and Paramore singer Hayley Williams (who joined Weezer onstage at a Florida show in January for a rendition of the classic “Say It Ain’t So”). No matter what the album ends up sounding like or how it gets out into the world, Cuomo will have plenty to write about. In the past year, he has turned 40 years old, survived a harrowing tour bus accident and ventured into the world of sleeved blankets with the “Wuggie.” Related Artists Weezer

Lindsay Lohan Lawyer Robert Shapiro Quit On Eve Of Jail Sentence

Actress may have been considering last-minute appeal before reporting to jail on Tuesday. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: David McNew/ Getty Images Once again, Lindsay Lohan is without a lawyer. On Monday, just one day before Lohan was scheduled to report for a 90-day jail sentence , former O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro stepped down from representing the troubled actress, four days after agreeing to take the case. According to KTLA , Shapiro and Lohan, 24, had an emergency meeting with Judge Marsha Revel late Monday afternoon in which Shapiro announced his resignation. The prosecutor in the case was not present for the meeting, and Shapiro did not say why he was quitting. Before stepping down, Shapiro had publicly stated that he would only represent Lohan if she agreed to go to jail instead of trying to appeal her sentence — and if she followed his instructions. Prior to Shapiro taking the case, Chicago attorney Stuart V. Goldberg met with Lohan and her family to discuss representing the “Mean Girls” star but declined, saying the actress was a “fragile, lost child” who didn’t seem aware of the gravity of her situation. Lohan’s original attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley , resigned her position shortly after the former child star’s sentencing. But KTLA reported on Monday that court records indicate that while Shapiro has been representing Lohan for the past few days, Holley never officially signed the substitution of attorney form, which means she is still the attorney of record for Lohan. Holley could not be reached for comment at press time, but KTLA reported that the attorney resigned after she learned that Lohan was “shopping” for a different lawyer. RadarOnline , citing unnamed sources close to the star, said that Holley will indeed be beside Lohan on Tuesday morning (July 20) when she submits to begin serving her sentence. Lohan has been staying at the Pickford Lofts sober-living facility for the past five days and reportedly checked out on Monday. The Lofts were founded by Shapiro after his son, Brent, died of a drug overdose. Radar speculated that Shapiro’s abrupt resignation, which coincided with Lohan checking out of the Lofts, might have signaled that the actress was going to try a last-ditch appeal to her jail term. Radar also reported that the district attorney in the case issued a stern warning to Lohan’s legal team about a possible appeal. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers reportedly told the site that she would object to any move to send Lohan to rehab instead of jail. “I have two things to say about that, first, she had done an in-patient rehab program before — and it didn’t work,” Meyers said. “Secondly, Judge Revel has already sentenced her. She needs to do the time. Jail is the only thing that is going to get her attention.” Though sentenced to 90 days, Lohan is likely to only serve around 25 percent of her time, or 23 days, due to overcrowding. Following jail, she has been ordered to spend 90 days in in-patient rehab. Related Photos Lindsay Lohan Goes To Court The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

Rick Ross Tells The Story Behind Drake’s Extended ‘Aston Martin Music’

Ross tells Mixtape Daily we might see the unofficial track on a Teflon Don re-release. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Rick Ross’ Teflon Don LP came out Tuesday (July 20), and by now, if you’ve been listening to the radio and the mixtapes, you’ve already heard the extended version of “Aston Martin Music,” a highlight of the project. The track features Chrisette Michele and Drake sharing hook duties. On the extended version, which is not on the album, Drake adds a rap verse. Ross stopped by our 1515 headquarters on Monday to explain Drizzy’s extra vocals. “It boils down to me having the idea, the concept,” Ross said. “Shout-out to J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. I got the production from the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. I wanted to do something else, two-seater music. That’s what I like to call it when it’s personal music for you and that special female that’s riding shotgun in a two-seater. Chrisette Michele, she was on ‘Mafia Music 2.’ She came to Miami to film the video. I got her in the studio to do the first half of this idea I had, which is ‘Aston Martin Music.’ She was like, ‘What you mean just do half of the chorus?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, just do half. I’mma save the other half.’ ” Trusting Ross’ direction, the singer got in and laid the vocals we hear today: “Riding to the music, this is how we do it/ All night/ Racing down the freeway/ Just me and my baby/ In our ride.” “She loved the beat. She wrote her lyrics,” Ross continued of Michele’s session for “Aston Martin.” “It took her 10, 15 minutes to cut her vocals. I’m sitting there like, ‘Wow. All right, all right.’ At that point, I didn’t know who was gonna sing the second half.” The Bawse said listening to Drake’s new album, in his leisure time, inspired him to make that call to his friend from Toronto. “I sent it to the homie,” the Miami rap lord described. “He laced me. Right then, he was ready to jump on his verse. Right then, he was ready to cock and load. I was like, ‘I know you finishing your joint. Just give me that half a chorus, and I’mma make it do what it do. He loved the record. I got it back. He laced it at the point. When he heard [the finished version], it was magic. He was like, ‘I’m finnin’ to go in the studio, Ross. I’mma need to get on that.’ ” A version of the song with just an extended chorus and Drake’s verse called “Paris Morton Music” came out shortly after “Aston Martin Music” leaked to the Net almost two weeks ago. “I talk slicker than a pimp from Augusta,” Drake raps on the track. Then, one of Ross’ engineers mixed Drake’s verse and extended chorus with the album version of “AMM,” and that song has lived on the Net and mixtapes ever since. It’s also getting play on the radio. Ross said he has no problems with an unofficial extended version of “AMM” being out. He might even include it on a repackaging of Teflon Don in the future. “It’s only right,” Ross said. “I got on [Drake’s] first single [‘Find Your Love’]. He even put a twist on the title after some sexy ladies, I believe. It made it feel good. That’s what that music is about. On that re-release, that deluxe packaging, that’s what you may get. You never know.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Andy Hummel, Original Big Star Bassist, Dead At 59

Musician lost a two-year battle with cancer. By Kara Warner Big Star’s Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, Andy Hummel and Alex Chilton in 1972 Photo: Charlie Gillett/ Redferns More sad news for Big Star fans. Almost four months to the day since Alex Chilton’s sudden death comes the loss of original bassist Andy Hummel. According to Dallas website DFW.com , Hummel died Monday (July 19) after a two-year battle with cancer. Current bassist Ken Stringfellow broke the news, tweeting : “Another sad loss for Big Star fans as Andy Hummel passes away after long illness.” Jason Elzy, a representative with Big Star’s label, Rhino Records, confirmed the report to MTV News: “Sadly, I can confirm this is true. Andy has passed away.” The Memphis-born Hummel, along with singer/songwriter Chilton, guitarist Chris Bell and drummer Jody Stephens (who is the only living original member), formed the rock band in 1971, and their uniquely layered power-pop/rock influenced a generation of bands, including R.E.M., Wilco, the Replacements, Teenage Fanclub, Matthew Sweet, Primal Scream and the Posies, whose Jon Auer and Stringfellow helped re-form Big Star in 1993. R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck famously said, “We’ve sort of flirted with greatness, but we’ve yet to make a record as good as Revolver or Highway 61 Revisited or Exile on Main Street or Big Star’s Third. ” Big Star influenced other areas of pop culture as well. “In the Street,” one of the songs from their 1972 debut album #1 Record was the theme song to “That ’70s Show,” re-recorded by fellow power-pop legends Cheap Trick. Plus, the title of Katy Perry’s hit “California Gurls” is a nod to Big Star’s “September Gurls.” “My manager, Bradford, he’s from Mississippi, and he’s a huge Big Star fan,” Perry said. “And with the death of one of their members [Chilton], I had just written that song, and he’s like, ‘Katy, just for me, will you please title it ‘California Gurls,’ with a ‘u’? People won’t even know!’ ” Hummel was 59. Services will reportedly be held near his home in Weatherford, Texas, on Wednesday. Share your memories of Big Star and Hummel in the comments. Shyne Blames 1999 Shooting On ‘Survival Instincts’

Rapper shares his feelings about Diddy in September cover story of XXL. By Jayson Rodriguez Shyne on the cover of the September 2010 edition of XXL Photo: XXL Expatriated rapper Shyne graces the September cover of XXL, and in the issue, the formerly jailed star talks about his gun case, Diddy and the decision he made more than 10 years ago that changed his life forever. “In my life, when I make decisions to roll, I roll,” Shyne told the magazine about firing a gun while partying with Diddy and the mogul’s then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez at Club New York. “And I don’t give a f— what the consequences are. If I’ma defend myself, I’ma defend myself. If somebody tryna kill or hurt one of my partnas or my comrades, that’s with me, there is no, ‘Yo,’ or, ‘Damn, well, if I pull this sh– out, this is what’s gonna happen.’ No! I don’t wanna die. I don’t wanna be laid up in no f—ing hospital with a tube runnin’ through me, hurtin’ and sufferin’. Pain is real. So you know what? I’m not doin’ that. You gon’ do that, mother—-er. You gon’ roll and say hi to Satan, not me. And that’s that. “Your survival instincts tell you to protect and preserve, and you deal with whatever later,” he explained of his actions. Shyne and Diddy were both charged in the December 1999 incident, and the two later went to trial separately with different legal representation. Diddy was aquitted , but Shyne was found guilty of first-degree assault, among other charges, and sentenced to 10 years in prison. After the trial, his relationship with the Bad Boy Records CEO soured. Shyne lashed out in interviews against his former mentor, claiming Diddy turned his back on him. Though he’s still not in agreement with the way things were handled, Shyne appears more measured in his personal take on Diddy’s actions. “You can always say, ‘Man, that ain’t the way to handle the situation,’ ” he told XXL. “Sure, I know in my soul that the situation was supposed to be handled in a different way. But it ain’t really a matter of disappointment or letdown, ’cause I never really … I grew up never having sh–, never having anybody. So I never was that dude to depend on a mother—-er. Obviously, the actions is not something that you condone or that you’re happy with. Not at all.” After serving almost nine years of his prison sentence, the Brooklyn-bred rapper was deported to his native Belize. Since then, he has re-joined Def Jam’s roster. The rapper has only provided a small sampling of material in the months after inking with the label, including “Messiah,” in which he raps with a noticeably drawn-out flow, a variation from the tighter delivery he displayed during his Bad Boy days. The Shyne interview is the first in a three-part series on the rapper set to run in forthcoming issues of XXL. Young Jeezy also graces the split cover of the magazine’s 13th anniversary issue, is set hit newsstands on the first week of August. XXL ‘s September issue hits stands August 10. Check out video coverage from the issue on the “Sucker Free Countdown,” Sundays at noon on MTV2. Do you think Shyne will be able to put the past behind him and create new music? Vampire Weekend ‘Look Forward’ To Resolving Contra Lawsuit, Label Says

Frontman Ezra Koenig calls album-cover suit ‘a little frustrating.’ By James Montgomery Kirsten Kennis featured on the Vampire Weekend’s album “Contra” Photo: XL Recordings Last week, Ann Kirsten Kennis — the cover star of Vampire Weekend’s Contra album — filed suit against the band in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that her signature was forged on photographer Tod Brody’s photographic release. At the time, VW’s label, XL Recordings, told MTV News they had “no comment” on Kennis’ lawsuit, and the only comment from the band itself was a winking emoticon tweeted by frontman Ezra Koenig. Since then, things have changed. First, Entertainment Weekly spoke to Kennis’ attorney and Brody, who, somewhat understandably, had differing opinions about the suit. Alan Neigher, who is representing Kennis, said his client was unaware that a Polaroid of her was being used by the band until her daughter told her, adding that the picture was “taken by her family” in 1983 and Kennis “has no idea how that photograph got into the photographer’s hands.” Brody — the photographer — laughed when he heard Neigher’s claims, maintaining that not only did he take the photo, but that it “was in my possession the entire time, for 26 years, until it was delivered to Vampire Weekend.” And late Friday, reps for XL sent a statement about the lawsuit to MTV News, saying they did their due diligence when securing the rights to the photo and that they “look forward” to proving that claim in court. “As is standard practice, Vampire Weekend and XL Recordings licensed the rights to use the photo on the cover of Contra pursuant to a license agreement that contains representations and warranties authorizing this use of the photo,” the statement read. “Now that a lawsuit has been filed, we look forward to having the matter resolved in Court. We will be filing our response after we have had an opportunity to review the allegations. Consistent with our practice, we will not be commenting further about the pending litigation at this time.” And finally, during a talk with British mag NME at this past weekend’s Latitude festival, Koenig broke his silence, saying he and his bandmates found the entire experience — and the inability to speak openly about it — “a little frustrating” “I think I can speak for all of us and say this is the first time any of us have ever been sued, so we’re still learning how it works,” he said “There’s so many things we could say about it, but given we have no experience of it, we’re just keeping conversations to a journal for now, which is a little frustrating. “There’s nothing we can say about it,” he continued. “We’re not trying to be mysterious. I imagine in the next few months, there’ll be plenty to talk about. Given it’s our first time, we just want to do it properly.” What do you think about the suit against Vampire Weekend?
