Lil Wayne’s Verse On Drake’s – Light Up – From Jail? Watch Now!

Weezy and Mack Maine come up with the idea during a phone call, in new footage from DJ Scoob Doo. By Jayson Rodriguez Scoob Doo, Baby and Mack Maine Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne unleashed a lyrical tirade on Drake’s “Light Up,” with the incarcerated rapper contributing a remix verse to the Jay-Z-featured track from behind bars. But how exactly did the collaboration come about? According to footage provided to MTV News by DJ Scoob Doo, Young Money cohort Mack Maine challenged his boss to drop some rhymes to the Tone Mason and Noah “40” Shebib banger. The scene will be featured on Scoob Doo’s forthcoming DVD project featuring Lil Wayne, “The Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3.” “You was supposed to have that third [verse],” Mack tells Wayne after the rapper called him. “Write something to that.” Wayne and Mack were talking about Jay-Z’s opening lines to the second verse, which Weezy admired. “Yeah, man, ain’t nobody talking about what your boy talking about,” he said of Jay. “That n—a is stupid [with his rhymes]. I said, ‘Oooh, look at that.’ ” Mack and Wayne go back and forth, bantering about what the Cash Money Records superstar would sound like on the song. Then, Wayne finally responds. “Come up with a [verse]? Don’t play with me, man,” Weezy tells Mack over the phone. “Just drop that beat to a breakdown to where you can really hear what I’m saying. I’ll write 100 bars to that. Don’t play with me. Let me know when it’s set up, and I’ll do it. “It’s over,” he adds. “I got it already.” The two then coordinate a time for Wayne to call an engineer to help clean up the rapper’s vocals, which were slightly distorted, since he had to rap over the phone. The result was classic Wayne, chock-full of punch lines and illuminating lyrics. “I’m feeling like Elvis, ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ ” Wayne raps via telephone. “I’m not Tupac, I’m the new ‘Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don’t stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won’t drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be Pop.” As of press time, it’s unknown if the “Light Up” remix will be included on the official Thank Me Later release or possibly a later deluxe version. 50 Cent, Floyd Mayweather Talk Eminem, Weight Loss

‘I was pissy,’ rapper says, describing being on a liquid diet to lose weight for role in ‘Things Fall Apart.’ By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Tim Kash 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Photo: MTV News During the run of his Invitation Tour, 50 Cent has been bringing out guests from E-40 to Carmelo Anthony. One guy who almost became a surprise for the fans was his good friend Eminem. Slim Shady, however, had to spend time with his family. “He wanted to come to my performance in Detroit. He was on baby watch,” 50 said last weekend in Los Angeles, when he was backstage at the House of Blues with another one of his onstage guests, boxer Floyd “Money” Mayweather. “He was like, ‘Yo, I wanna come out there, but I gotta stay. Hailie and them looking at me now.’ He had to get off the phone, they was like, ‘We have to go.’ We talked for a little bit — he was trying to figure when he could expect [my] next record. He was like, ‘Do like I make my records, like Dre makes his records. [Put it out] when you feel happy with it 100 percent.’ Like Floyd said, having the financial security we have, we don’t have to just jump out there at any point.” “You could take your time,” Mayweather added. “You could take your time and make the record special.” 50’s Black Magic LP is still a ways off, but the rap giant has been filming a slew of movies in the past year, including the drama “Things Fall Apart.” He plays a football star stricken with cancer. 50 lost 54 pounds in less than three months for the role. “I’m glad you got your weight back,” Mayweather said to Fif. “I was getting worried. Everybody was telling me [about the picture posted on his website]. I’m not an Internet freak.” “I went from 214 to 160,” The G-Unit General said. “I was on a liquid diet for nine weeks. “I was in Baku, [Azerbaijan,] and I ran from the airport to the hotel,” he added, referring to one instance in his training. “I was doing a lot of treadmill running, but it’s mental. When you get on the street, you could run. On the treadmill, you start thinking about the time. If you got the same music playing it gets difficult after a while. You gotta have something to distract you.” “When you running on the street, you in control. When you’re on a treadmill, you’re not in control,” Money May added. “I didn’t see this [picture] yet, I gotta go check it out.” Fif says not having anything to eat made him angry. “I was real hungry,” he explained. “I was pissy. Any little thing, it was like, ‘Get the f— from around me.’ ” Related Photos The Evolution Of: 50 Cent Related Artists 50 Cent Eminem Floyd Mayweather

Eminem Keeping June 22 Recovery Release Date, Despite Leak

MC has often moved up release dates after album leaks in the past. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem’s Recovery album Photo: Interscope Eminem changed the rules regarding album’s traditional Tuesday releases in the past, when the MC would push up the date by weeks after his projects were bootlegged or leaked online. Now, with his forthcoming Recovery set having hit the Web two weeks early , the rapper has reportedly decided to keep the same June 22 release date. According to XXLmag.com , a representative for Em confirmed the date would stay the same despite the album being available illegally. An Interscope Records spokesperson was unavailable at press time when contacted by MTV News. Recovery arrived online and via blogs earlier this week, following the lead single “Not Afraid” and the Pink-assisted “Won’t Back Down” . The first video from the project, “Not Afraid,” premiered Sunday and departs from the rapper’s usual satirical efforts. Last month, Eminem revealed the tracklisting for Recovery, and the rapper chose to work with Lil Wayne, Pink, and Rihanna for the project. In the past, he’s kept his circle of collaborators short, mostly limited to the Shady/Aftermath camp, including Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. For this collection, however, Eminem chose to work with a bevy of new contributors, such as producers Just Blaze, Jim Johnson, and DJ Khalil. “A lot of good music is being made [by Eminem],” Just Blaze told MTV News in April. “He’s really back spitting. The wordplay is crazy, the metaphors are crazy. He’s really back on his game. He had his ups, he had his downs, he’s back way, way, way up. This is definitely going to be up there with the best of his albums, for sure, for sure. The fact that he’s branched out working with a lot of different people now, collaborating in a lot of different ways that he never has before, I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people.” Are you excited to hear Eminem’s new album? Rihanna Says Boyfriend Matt Kemp Keeps Her ‘Sane’

Pop star dishes about her current relationship and her past year in Elle magazine. By Mawuse Ziegbe Rihanna Photo: Michael Tran/ FilmMagic From the dramatic fashion statements to the sharp-edged radio hits Rihanna has evolved over the past year from pop princess to rock star. While last year her personal life was the source of much chronicled drama, the singer recently revealed that these days it’s her romance with boyfriend and L.A. Dodgers player Matt Kemp that keeps her grounded. “I have a boyfriend. I’m so happy. I feel really comfortable, and it’s so easy,” Rihanna gushes in the latest issue of Elle magazine. “I have such a chaotic life, but at the end of the day, that is just my peace. It keeps me sane, really, talking to him and talking to my family.” Rihanna has spent most of the past year reinventing herself as a boundary-pushing artist; abandoning her sunny pop jams and good-girl charm in favor of gritty hits and a highly stylized image. Earlier this week, “Love the Way You Lie,” her collaboration with Eminem that laments the torturous cycle of an abusive relationship, leaked to the Internet. And in the interview with Elle, the singer opened up about her emotional state over a year ago when she sustained the now infamously brutal attack at the hands of former boyfriend Chris Brown. “A year ago, I was very confused,” the star revealed to Elle. “Because he was my best friend. All of a sudden, one night changed our whole lives — not only our friendship, but our lives. I wanted to wake up one day and just not have that pain anymore. I wanted to be with him again or get over him — it was either-or. I just didn’t want to feel the pain, the confusion.” The superstar talked about the moody, black-and-white album art of Rated R, which she released in the wake of her “life-changing” experience with Brown. “I wanted pictures that represented strength and fearlessness but still femininity — a strong woman who can be vulnerable. Every woman is made up of vulnerability and strength; no matter what race you are, no matter what you’ve been through in your life.” After lighting up red carpets with her daring fashion choices, inspiring legions of girls to lop off their locks to match her evolving pixie cut, Rih Rih is known as much for her style as her sound. When it comes to designers, the star said she favors labels with an equally intrepid approach to fashion. “I respect designers who aren’t afraid to go outside of the box,” she said. “I went to a Jean Paul Gaultier show, and I saw girls who are thicker than me, beautiful and voluptuous and different ethnicities. That made me so excited. I thought, ‘OK, I can work that, for sure.’ ” What is your favorite of Rihanna’s recent looks? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Rihanna

Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Director Explains Video’s Painful Meaning

Steven Klein says the clip is about ‘the pain of living without your true love.’ By James Montgomery Lady Gaga in her “Alejandro” video Photo: Interscope Records Before working with Lady Gaga on the just-released “Alejandro,” famed fashion photographer Steven Klein had never directed a proper music video. But after seeing Gaga perform live, he knew it was time to take the plunge. “I went to see her show in NYC, and it felt like performance art in the ’90s. And I had not seen anything like that in a while,” Klein told MTV News in an e-mail. “Lady Gaga approached me about doing this particular song, and in the past, I have passed on such offers, but this time I felt [a] narrative drive you could make interesting, and we both aligned on the vision for the film.” Working closely with Gaga, the two created an eight-minute-plus, darkly surreal epic that draws equally from Madonna and Marlene Dietrich (to name just a few). Of course, given that Gaga and Klein are among the hottest names in their respective fields, getting together to plan “Alejandro” was difficult — and actually shooting it was nearly impossible. “I had a vision and story for the film, she reacted to it, then we both collaborated … We shot in Los Angeles on April 30, 2010,” Klein wrote. “My schedule and hers are both complicated, so it took a lot to get the days that we both could work together.” Now that the “Alejandro” video has been unleashed on the world, we figured we’d ask Klein to reveal what inspired the clip … or, at least explain what the heck it’s all about. “I was not thinking in terms [of influences.] I saw it more as a combination of cinema and theater,” Klein wrote.

Donald Trump Dreamed Of Playing In The Majors, On ‘When I Was 17’

‘I was captain of the baseball team,’ the ‘Apprentice’ boss says on Saturday’s episode. By MTV News staff Donald Trump On “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News So far this season on MTV’s “When I Was 17,” we’ve learned about Drake’s awful “neck afro,” and how Kevin Jonas attempted to tame his own unfortunate ‘fro with a flatiron. On this Saturday’s episode, Donald Trump — the real-estate mogul instantly recognizable by his signature ‘do — takes us back to his teenage years, though viewers will have to tune in to find out whether he opens up about that famous mane. We do discover, however, that the future “Apprentice” boss was a sports-obsessed teen growing up in the 1960s. “When I was 17, I loved sports,” Trump says on the new episode, airing at 11 a.m. on MTV. “I was always a good athlete. I played football, baseball, soccer. I wrestled. I think the thing I liked the best was baseball.” The New York City native attended an upstate military school, where he dreamed of going pro. Alas, Trump didn’t have the skills to make it in the big leagues, but things seem to have turned out well for the guy, no? “I was captain of the baseball team,” Trump explained. “I was supposed to be a professional baseball player. Fortunately, I decided to go into real estate instead. I played first base and I also played catcher. I was a good hitter. I just had a good time.” With his days on the baseball diamond behind him, Trump is happy to spend time on his country club links. “Now I play golf,” he said with a smile. “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Donald Trump, Nick Cannon and Aubrey O’Day — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
