Styles P Says The LOX Are In The Studio For Group Album, Solo LPs

‘Now that we all there at the same time, it brings better energy and better thoughts,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid The LOX Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Styles P says the LOX are cooking up a slew of products individually and collectively. All three members, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and, of course, SP the Ghost, are recording together. “We working on the LOX right now and all the solos at once — Sheek solo, my solo, ‘Kiss solo, mixtapes. That’s our plan for the summer right now,” he said. “Since we all in the lab, we going in. Now that we all there at the same time, it brings better energy and better thoughts. Even while I’m working on my solo, I like that input: ‘All right, P, go here with it’ or ‘go there with it.’ ‘You should do that kinda song.’ I was in a Louch session the other day, and somebody was there for beats for him; he got two beats for me. It wasn’t nothing there for him in the beat session, but he heard two beats he knew I would like and go in on. It makes for a better energy and better fit. We just working and making our legacy grow. LOX forever.” Styles said there isn’t a distinct method of choosing which songs go for the LOX album or each MC’s solo project. “Follow your instincts,” he said. “The first thought that pops in your head. It depends on how it go. If I hear something, I might be like, ‘This is for the group, this sounds crazy.’ I’ll call them up, three-way: ‘Listen. You like?’ If one of them don’t like it, then I use it for myself. If they like, we use it for the group.” Although the squad is still making music, Styles said they will likely not go with the title they had revealed previously: Live, Suffer, Celebrate. “We’ll probably change it, ’cause we got a lot of ideas and thoughts in our brains. “We don’t let down when it comes to these bars,” SP added. “We really just trying to handle our business first. Business-wise, it looks like it’s being handled pretty well. We’re trying to keep our heads on our shoulders and make solid music. It’s well-known producers that’s definitely going to be out there. But we also giving a shot to anybody with mean beats that got that LOX sound that we can appreciate and the world can appreciate.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Did Katy Perry Dis Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Video?

‘Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke,’ singer tweeted. By Kelley L. Carter Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images She liked kissing a girl, but one thing Katy Perry doesn’t take kindly to? Blasphemy. Katy Perry posted a message on her Twitter page Tuesday that appears to be a direct stab at Lady Gaga’s just-debuted “Alejandro” video and its Madonna-like use of religious imagery . “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke,” Perry tweeted . Gaga’s music video — which seems to reference a number of Madonna videos, including “Vogue” and “Like a Prayer” — shows the singer dressed in a red-latex nun’s habit and sucking on rosary beads, and a crucifix appears during a same-sex orgy. There are also clips of flames in the background during one of the dance scenes, reminiscent of when Madonna sang among a field of flaming crosses in her “Like a Prayer” video, which sparked controversy when it was first released. While Perry has had her own controversial moments — including breakout single “I Kissed a Girl” and a sneak peek of her “California Gurls” video that features a cupcake bra that sprays frosting — she got her start in the Christian-music world and both her parents are pastors. “I was raised in a very pseudo-strict religious household where the only thing on the menu was [gospel standards like] ‘Oh Happy Day,’ ‘His Eye Is on the Sparrow’ and ‘Amazing Grace’ … all eight verses of it,” Perry told MTV News back in 2008. “So the New Kids on the Block are new to me now; they’re not a comeback. I’m like, ‘Oh, this is a cool song!’ I missed out on a couple other things, but I’m catching up.” What do you think of Katy’s tweet? Share your thoughts in the comments. Lindsay Lohan Posts Bail After SCRAM Violation

L.A. judge issued a bench warrant for Lohan’s arrest, which was recalled after bail was posted. By Kelley L. Carter Lindsay Lohan at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards June 6 Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images On Tuesday (June 8), a Beverly Hills judge issued an arrest warrant for Lindsay Lohan and ordered her to post $200,000 bail after she violated a court order to not consume alcohol while wearing a SCRAM alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet . According to TMZ , the warrant was recalled after bail was posted, so Lohan remains a free woman. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel had a session in chambers with the prosecutor and Lohan’s attorney on Tuesday afternoon and made the announcement shortly thereafter. Revel called the hearing after learning that the alcohol-detection device on Lohan’s ankle sent a report saying that there was a presence of alcohol late Sunday, after the actress attended the MTV Movie Awards. In court, the judge didn’t talk specifics about how the actress violated the court order, which was issued May 24 . Revel did double Lohan’s bail from the initial $100,000 to $200,000, which is pending a July 6 hearing that will deal with whether Lohan violated the terms of her probation, stemming from a 2007 driving-under-the-influence arrest. The actress is expected to surrender to authorities as early as Wednesday and will be released on bail. TMZ reported that Lohan’s bail bondsman pulled up to the Beverly Hills courthouse to post the $200,000 bail for the actress and said she forfeited the $100,000 previously posted. Lohan tweeted Tuesday that she “did not violate anything at all.” MTV News caught up with Lohan on the red carpet at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards to talk about her role in an upcoming biopic of porn star Linda Lovelace and whether she was frustrated with the quality of roles being offered to her these days. Lady Gaga Fans Call ‘Alejandro’ Video ‘Brilliant,’ ‘Scary’

‘Words can’t describe how awesome and revolutionary this video is!!’ one fan gushed. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga in “Alejandro” Photo: Interscope Records Lady Gaga’s latest video opus, “Alejandro,” is a dizzying array of provocative imagery, roping in everything from Weimar Germany to S&M to (of course) Madonna. And as expected, Gaga’s dedicated army of “little monsters” hit the web to take it all in. While the clip’s moody, brooding visuals are a departure from the gleefully demented camp of hits like “Telephone” or the futuristic disco of “Bad Romance,” Gaga’s fans are largely into “Alejandro” ‘s sleek, retro vibe . The clip “had my blood boiling the whole time,” reader Andrew commented, adding that the video, whose sullen imagery nods to German films of the ’20s and ’30s, is “cinematic genius, pure brilliance.” “The video is effin’ brilliant!!” reader Journey wrote, echoing fellow Gaga fan Andrew. “Gaga does it yet again — it’s sleek, sexy and a bit scary. I knew she would slay.” With her machine-gun bra, simulated orgies and Catholic iconography, Gaga goes for shock value in “Alejandro.” Ralfy posted, “WHAT???? She makes SUCH a big statement with this video! Criticizing religion, homophobia, political repression, sexism!!! Words can’t describe how awesome and revolutionary this video is!!” “Oh my gosh lady gaga wears a pair of pants for the first time,” Faith observed, pointing out that the conservative wardrobe choices might prove shocking to fans accustomed to Gaga’s high drama. “As crazy as she is i loveeeee lady gaga!” she added. Still, with all of the sinister, shadowy imagery, some fans were left in the dark. “I don’t think the video was boring, ’cause I was like omg what is she going to do next in this video, BUT IT WAS A LITLE TOO CREEPY FOR ME! O.K. ALOTTTT!” ashcuptink13 commented. And although the 80s pop-culture references are numerous and hard to miss, Jennifer defended Gaga’s penchant for paying homage. “You can say she is copying Ace of Base, Madonna, [Michael] Jackson, etc., but in my opinion she is referencing them in her own unique works of art, a wonderfully grounded and respectful gesture to those who paved the way before her.” With “Alejandro” Gaga gave her fans the unexpected, which is exactly what her little monsters crave. As Samuel posted, “U do ur thang gurl GAGA> > LIVE ON MOTHER MONSTER.” What did you think of Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” video? Let us know in the comments! Rock The Bells Lineup Adds Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Premier

Lauryn Hill will perform her classic debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, on three tour stops. By Jayson Rodriguez Snoop Dogg Photo: Daniel Boczarski/ Redferns Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Premier have been added to the 2010 Rock the Bells bill , joining a lineup that already includes such legendary acts as the Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, KRS-One, and Slick Rick. As part of a novel concept this year, all of the participants will perform one seminal album from their catalog in its entirety, with the exception of Premier, who will instead lead a tribute to his late Gangstarr music partner, Guru . (The MC died in April of cancer-related causes.) Also joining the festivities is Lauryn Hill. The former Fugees frontwoman was announced as a “special guest” last month, but Hill’s involvement in the show was clarified on Tuesday (June 8). Hill is slated to perform her now-classic debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The singer will be featured on the Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. legs of the four-city trek. The Rock the Bells Tour spans four U.S. cities, kicking off on August 21 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California, then making stops at the Shoreline Amphitheater outside San Francisco on August 22, Governors Island in New York on August 28 and closing at Merriweather Post Pavilion, in the D.C. area, on August 29. Among the albums set to be performed from start to finish are Snoop’s Doggystyle, ATCQ’s Midnight Marauders, the Wu’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and KRS-One and Boogie Down Production’s Criminal Minded. Slick Rick’s The Great Adventures of Slick Rick and Eric B. and Rakim’s Paid in Full will also get a full performance. “That’s gonna be interesting to see these cats do some of the records that really bust hip-hop’s cherry open,” Raekwon told MTV News about the concept earlier this month. “I can’t wait to see this because I never seen it like that before. The concept is great. It gives fans the opportunity to go back and rewrite their history, go back and check it out, see what made dudes who they are. … This [tour] is gonna allow races to come together and have fun for one night. This is gonna be the event of events. This is gonna be the Royal Rumble of hip-hop. I’m sure that everybody is gonna come out and represent this. It’s gonna be right. I can’t wait.” Also filling out the bill are Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello’s side project with the Coup’s Boots Riley, Street Sweeper Social Club, as well as Murs & 9th Wonder, Wiz Khalifa, the Clipse, Immortal Technique, Brother Ali, Jedi Mind Tricks, Supernatural, DJ Muggs with Ill Bill, Big Sean, Yelawolf and DJ Rocky Rock. If you could choose any hip-hop act to perform their album in its entirety, who would you pick and which album? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Snoop Dogg A Tribe Called Quest DJ Premier

Christina Aguilera Says Bionic Is About Fun And The Future

‘I haven’t made a record this fun in a pop sensibility since my very first record,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Christina Aguilera Photo: MTV News Christina Aguilera’s just-released Bionic album is a whirring, wooshing, forward-thinking thing that sees the prodigiously piped pop star moving even further away from her “Genie in a Bottle” past — but, really, that was the plan all along. Because, as Aguilera told MTV News, Bionic — which features collaborations with the likes of M.I.A., Tricky Stewart, Sia and Le Tigre, to name just a few — isn’t really as much of a departure as her fans might believe. It seems she’s been building toward this for a while now. “There was a taste of things to come on [2008 greatest-hits package] Keeps Gettin’ Better, but the futuristic idea actually came up for a few reasons,” Aguilera said. “One being the Back to Basics album, because I wanted it to be a tribute to those I was very much inspired by and what made me passionate about music, soul and jazz and blues and paying homage to those musicians and those artists and doing a modern-day interpretation of what that meant to me. So it was important for me to dive into that world and reflect elements of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. “And that was a huge departure from the Stripped album. And Stripped was a huge departure from the first album,” she continued. “I always make it a point to reinvent what I’m doing and take a minute, take a break in between records to really find out who I am and what I’m inspired by next.” And during the break between 2006’s Back to Basics and Bionic, Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman welcomed their first child, son Max. And, as Aguilera has said in the past , becoming a mother only served as more inspiration for the new album’s sonic adventures. “Since the last album, I’ve become a mother, which inspired me so much. When you have a child, you think of the future, you think of the next generation,” she said. “And I started getting heavily into electronic music and listening to that, and I loved all the atmospheric sounds and interesting elements that had to offer. And then I dove in and reached out to these people wanting to collaborate, which is magical, and walked away with all these new friends as well.” But no matter how futuristic Bionic may get — and no matter how much she’s grown in the decade since she first burst onto the pop landscape — Aguilera said that, at the end of the day, it’s not really all that dissimilar to her ’99 self-titled debut. After all, both share one rather unique characteristic: a focus on fun, first and foremost. “The whole record is fun. I actually feel like I haven’t made a record this fun in a pop sensibility since my very first record,” she said. “Because I feel there’s been growth and comfort within myself, and I don’t have to be scared of that side of myself anymore. But it’s in a much more sophisticated way that I was able to release it on this record. I’m just really proud of it, and it’s exactly how I’m feeling now.” What do you think of Christina’s new direction on Bionic ? Let us know in the comments! Busta Rhymes Calls DJ Khaled’s Summer Jam Set ‘A Special Moment’

‘When we did that ‘All I Do Is Win’ remix, fire and brimstone!’ he tells MTV News backstage. By Shaheem Reid Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — On Sunday night, after Busta Rhymes had ripped the stage with DJ Khaled and a host of others at Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert , the rap legend joked backstage with Trey Songz and gave his full play-by-play of what happened. ” ‘Stop the Party’ stopped the party this evening,” Busta said with an extra-raspy voice backstage at the New Meadowlands Stadium. “My voice is a little gone. They did warn the building that there was a tornado watch today. You know why they did that. The tornado came through! Busta came through and did what was necessary. With all due respect to everything else in the building, what was necessary had to get done. ‘Stop the Party’ flatlined the entire brand-new Giants Stadium. It’s only appropriate. Trey Songz, flatline! He came through and he bodied the building. Extremely appropriate.” Busta said the part of the show he was involved with was historic. “The Khaled set, I think a special moment we should acknowledge,” he said. “Despite the fact that the set in its entirety was incredible, I think we were very happy to see the homie Cam’ron. Flatline! Cam’ron, you bodied the building. The young homie Vado, great first look. You bodied the building. Mr. Ros

Christina Aguilera Brings New Songs, Classic Hits To ‘Today’ Show

‘I was completely inspired by a lot of electronica music when my son was born,’ she says of Bionic. By James Dinh Christina Aguilera performs on the “Today” show on June 8 Photo: James Dinh / MTV News Fresh off her Bionic medley at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , Christina Aguilera continued her promotional blitz for the new album Tuesday morning (June 8) by performing a mini-concert on the “Today” show. The pop star treated fans to a five-song set, including cuts from her new album and some older Xtina classics. With a slight breeze and summer sun in full effect, the always fashionable diva strutted a catwalk set up in Rockefeller Center during show rehearsals. Even though the crowd wasn’t as outrageous as those who trekked across states for Justin Bieber , Aguilera did have her share of devotees waiting in Rockefeller Plaza as early as midnight. The songstress made sure to recognize their devotion by happily signing autographs and taking pictures with fans in between her rehearsals. “I was completely inspired by a lot of electronica music when my son was born and we both were listening to it a lot together,” she told “Today” host Matt Lauer about her new album. “You know, having a child makes you think of the future and the next generation, and I got really inspired by electronica, which is so no-holds-barred with its sound and technology, and I wanted to really experiment with that. He definitely inspired a very playful side of me that I didn’t have prior to having him. He really inspired this album … and got me really in touch with my original pop roots of a decade ago, so it’s been really fun.” To start her mini-concert, the singer got the audience rowdy with the aggressive opening number “Fighter.” A flicker of camera flashes lit up the center of the catwalk, as Xtina led her dancers into a sea of fans. She continued with the M.I.A.-esque “Bionic,” while the singer’s eight backup dancers performed a slick and quirky routine. The momentum only continued with current single “Not Myself Tonight,” during which Aguilera joined in on a few dance moves. The songstress never fails to deliver ballads, so it was no surprise that her next number was her 2002 hit single “Beautiful.” But while she usually takes advantage of her high notes, she also showcased her vocal versatility on the final song: the Sia-penned ballad “You Lost Me.” The singer brought a subtle and gentle ambience to her set as she delicately delivered the tender ballad. Unfortunately for television viewers, the entire performance was not aired. In addition to the release of her album, the singer spoke about the completion of her first movie, “Burlesque,” which hits theaters in November. “It was an incredible experience,” she said. “I grew and learned so much. I had such great people to absorb from: Cher, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell was hilarious and funny and just made me feel so comfortable and supportive. It’s going to be a really, really fun movie come this November.” What do you think of Christina’s songs from her new album? Tell us in the comments below! Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Video Fashions From Eva Peron To Steampunk

New video features S&M outfits, a latex nun’s habit and other controversial high fashion. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga in “Alejandro” Photo: Interscope Records In every performance she gives, Lady Gaga pays as much attention to her look as to her sound. She knows that her “little monsters” will examine each of her looks and try to re-create them. And in her new video for “Alejandro,” which debuted online on Tuesday (June 8), Gaga’s video style is very dark, very black-and-white and very German. And while the song’s Spanish, sun-soaked vibe could lend itself to cheery styles, instead Gaga took a turn for the dark. Most of the looks she wears in the clip, directed by fashion photographer Steven Klein, are more reminiscent of ones that may have been popular in Germany during the ’20s and ’30s. The looks of the video range from high fashion to high blasphemy, as Gaga takes on Catholic imagery. She not only sports a red latex nun’s habit, she also wears a hooded white-and-red tunic that feels like something that Joan of Arc would wear at the stake. Gaga does pay homage to the song’s Latin vibe in the opening funeral scene, when she wears a black lace veil reminiscent of an Eva Peron outfit — or something Madonna would have worn as Eva Peron in “Evita.” That is certainly not where the Madonna style references begin or end. At one point, when the video takes a turn for the “Vogue,” Gaga is seen alone dancing around in a black pant suit that could have easily been worn by Madge in 1990 (back when Madonna was channeling German movie icon Marlene Dietrich). Gaga even has her own take on Madonna’s infamous Gaultier cone bra, only Gaga has made it her own by replacing the cones with rifles. Then again, there are fashion references that are now becoming distinctly Gaga. She dances around in nude-colored underwear. She wears a black Victorian style dress, complete with steampunk goggles, a look that would have been at home in her “Paparazzi” video. Rocker Gaga, complete with black underwear, leather jacket, sunglasses and slicked-back hair, also makes a cameo. It feels like the woman we saw asking Beyonc

Katy Perry To Host Teen Choice Awards

‘California Gurls’ singer will also perform at the August 9 show. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Getty Images It seems only fitting that a singer whose upcoming album is titled Teenage Dream should host this year’s Teen Choice Awards. Just in time for the August 24 release of her sophomore LP, Katy Perry is set to MC the show on August 9, according to ETonline.com . Nominees, as well as Perry’s co-host, will be announced this week, according to the show’s Twitter . The announcement comes just days after Perry stormed the stage at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, performing her hit single “California Gurls” with Snoop Dogg , amid a backdrop of surfboards and roller-skating dancers. Perry’s Movie Awards performance on Sunday also gave fans a taste of what they can expect from the “California Gurls” video , a preview of which has her dancing in her own personal “Candy Land.” The singer, sporting a blue wig these days, is also slated to perform at the Teen Choice Awards, airing on Fox. In the days before MTV’s Movie Awards, Perry had vowed to perform in the nude — a promise she did not keep. So, maybe this means she’ll have some time to build up the courage for her appearance at the August show? Regardless, the California girl seems to be gearing up for a busy summer, with a number of projects in the works, including her role as the voice of Smurfette in the CG/live action movie adaptation of “The Smurfs” (due for a 2011 release). “I’ve never seen an episode [of ‘The Smurfs’], because my parents wouldn’t let me,” Perry confessed to MTV News on the Movie Awards red carpet. “My mom thought that Smurfette was a little bit slutty, being the only female in the village. And now I showed her. I called her up and was like, ‘Guess what, Mom: I’m Smurfette!’ “It’s just like another one of those days, where it’s like, ‘Guess what, Mom: I kissed a girl! Guess what, Mom: I’m going to be naked in a music video!’ ” Perry laughed. Who should be Katy’s co-host at the Teen Choice Awards? Tell us in the comments!
