Eminem’s ‘Won’t Back Down,’ Featuring Pink, Hits The Web

On the Recovery track, Em fires off a slew of lyrical punch lines over DJ Khalil’s spiked organs. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem’s Recovery Photo: Interscope The second single from Eminem’s forthcoming Recovery album, “Won’t Back Down,” was released online Thursday (June 3) via RapRadar.com . The track, produced by DJ Khalil, features Pink and finds Eminem firing off a slew of lyrical punch lines. “Listen, garden tool/ Don’t make me introduce you to my power tool,” the Detroit native raps over Khalil’s spiked organs. “You know the f—ing drill/ How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” Eminem spoke about his Recovery collaborations while in France on a promotional tour. Pink, Rihanna and Lil Wayne are all featured, a departure from Em’s previous projects, where the guest lists were usually limited to Shady or Aftermath artists. For “Won’t Back Down,” he explained, Pink was added to the track after it was completed. “When I did the song that I did with Pink, I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record and felt that she would smash this record,” Em said. Pink certainly delivers a fiery warning on the chorus. “You can sound the alarm, you can call out your guards/ You can fence in your yard, you can pull all the cards/ But I won’t back down, I won’t back down,” she sings. The song follows “Not Afraid,” the first offering from Recovery, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. What do you think about Eminem and Pink’s collaboration? Drake, The Game Say Album Leaks Can Be A Good Thing

Chamillionaire, Paul Wall also agree that artists can’t blame poor sales on early bootlegs. By Shaheem Reid Chamillionaire and Paul Wall Photo: MTV News Drake has been anointed by many fans and journalists alike as hip-hop’s new golden master of ceremonies, but he is not exempt from the same problem plaguing most musicians these days. Bootleggers leaked his much-anticipated Thank Me Later LP earlier this week, but the Toronto MC took it stride, tweeting, “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here.” Drake told TheLifeFiles.com that the word of mouth won’t hurt him. “It’s a honor to make this dream come true for Wayne, and I’m excited to start my journey,” he said of the new album, which he previewed for the press on Wednesday. “I always say, if I would have put out an album that was poor quality, I think the leaks would have hurt me. Because a lot of the feedback has been great, it can only help.” The Game spoke about the inevitability of leaking when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Wednesday. “Every album is getting leaked from now until the duration of hip-hop,” he said. “It’s just once it hits the plant, or once a radio station gets their promo, somebody is gonna leak the album. You can look forward to it being leaked a week early or whatever. It’s gonna get leaked.” Chamillionaire and Paul Wall weighed in as well. And though they agreed that an MC’s ire is definitely raised when his album leaks early, for the most part, it doesn’t hurt too much. “You can’t not be bothered by that,” Cham told MTV News. “Because you wonder, is that a sale that I could have made? You hate to see all your hard work that you went to the studio doing. We done seen bootleggers riding 28s. We like, ‘Man, they eating good off of us.’ But we understand; you just gotta give them that music. If it’s dope, they gonna come buy it. I don’t think Drake or anybody else should worry if it’s dope. If people want it, it’s gonna create enough hype. 50 Cent, even Lil Wayne, everybody suffered from leaks and some people benefited from it.” Wall agreed that leaks can do as much good as they do harm. “If the album don’t sell good — that’s just not Drake, this is every artist — then [they say], ‘Oh, it got bootlegged.’ If it does great, then they’ll be like, ‘Oh, it does great ’cause the bootleg got out, and it let everybody know this was legit.’ It goes both ways.” Game suggested that any artists who complain that leaks hurt their sales should stop making excuses and make better music. “Lil Wayne showed me that,” Game said. “His album leaked four weeks before Tha Carter III was supposed to come out, and he sold a million the first week. That’s just an excuse. … It’s no longer acceptable because people are still selling.” Do you think leaks can help as much as they hurt? Talk about it in the comments. Casey James Calls ‘American Idol’ Duet With Bret Michaels ‘An Honor’

‘After the stuff I had been through with my motorcycle wreck, we immediately hit it off,’ James says of Poison frontman. By James Montgomery Casey James Photo: MTV News Casey James is still riding high since finishing third on “American Idol,” but his favorite moment on the show actually occurred after he’d been given the boot: his finale-night performance with Bret Michaels . Their surprise duet on the Poison classic “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” was a highlight of the show, especially given the myriad health scares Michaels had survived in recent months . But that’s only part of the reason James will always remember the moment. Turns out, he was unaware that he’d be performing with Michaels until 48 hours before the show aired. “Well, they give us the songs, and they say, ‘This is the song you’re going to be doing, you’re going to be doing a duet,’ and I see the song and I’m like, ‘Why are you having me do this song? I know Bret Michaels is ill, so who are they gonna have sing the song with me?’ I was just very confused,” James told MTV News. “Then, I think it was two days before the show — Bret Michaels, [producers] were calling him ‘rock star,’ that was, like, the code name for the guy I was playing with — and so they said, ‘Rock star wants to see you.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, so I’m gonna meet the dude, or the female, or whoever it is that I’m doing the song with,’ and I walked in and there he is, and I was like, ‘You gotta be kidding me.’ ” James said he was in awe of the Poison frontman at first, but the two quickly bonded … over their respective near-death experiences, oddly enough. “He’s an amazing dude, and I think it says a lot about him, what the music does for him … it’s just unbelievable. And after the stuff that I had been through with my motorcycle wreck [in 2004], we just kind of immediately hit it off,” James explained. “And for him to be coming back, and for me to be on the stage when that happened? I mean, what an honor. I’ll never forget it for the rest of my life.” And though their on-air performance was certainly one for the “Idol” history books, James said that the duo’s rehearsals were even more memorable, allowing him to fulfill a lifelong dream to jam with one of his musical idols. “We had a lot of fun in rehearsals, we were laughing and playing,” he said. “The coolest thing was when I first met him and we just immediately started jamming, and we were trying to figure out the arrangement for the song and the amount of time we had … it was great. He’s the nicest guy ever.” What did you think of Casey and Bret’s “Idol” finale performance? Tell us in the comments! Game Skipped A Pre-Jail Video With Lil Wayne To Record With Dr. Dre

‘When Dre is mixing, you don’t leave,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of failing to shoot an ‘Everything Red’ clip. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Game Photo: Black Wall Street Celebrity Favorites If he would have just gotten on a plane from L.A. to Miami, the Game could have added to Lil Wayne’s pre-prison video-shoot marathon . The Compton MC said one of the standout cuts from his Red Room mixtape , “Everything Red,” was supposed to be a single from The R.E.D. Album, but he didn’t shoot a visual. “I flaked on the video,” Game said of the track, which features Lil Wayne and Birdman. “Bird was like, ‘Listen, daddy, you can come down here. Junior is gonna turn himself in next Wednesday. You can come down here. We can shoot the video before Junior go in. You just have that in the safe.’ I blew it. I didn’t make it down. Once he went [to jail], I was like, ‘I can’t use this.’ I didn’t want to save it, so I gave it away. That was like, ‘Single!’ ” So what was so important that he couldn’t make it to Miami for his own video? He was finishing up tracks with the most successful hip-hop producer in the world. “I think I was in with Dr. Dre. I couldn’t move,” he thought back. “I think we was finishing up his records. When Dre is mixing, you don’t leave. You gotta stay posted. But I couldn’t move. So I gave it away. Fans appreciate it, though.” One of the Dre-produced records that will appear on his album is called “Dead People.” On the track, Game thinks of who he wants to murder and how he’s going to get away with it. The R.E.D. Album has been pushed back to later this summer, but the MC promised another mixtape before then. The Game Applauds 50 Cent’s Weight Loss, Dedication To Acting

‘I saw a dude that’s trying to win an award for playing a cancer patient,’ Game says of his longtime adversary. By Shaheem Reid, with reporting by Sway Calloway 50 Cent Photo: G-Unit The Game says there is absolutely no dissing on his upcoming LP, The R.E.D Album . He’s in such a peaceful place, even in private, that Game told his friends that he declined to throw jabs at 50 Cent’s much-publicized weight loss for his “Things Fall Apart” film, photos of which rocketed across the Internet last week. “All my boys was sending me pictures of 50 where he sucked up, looking like a smoker,” lost all the weight,” Game told MTV News on Wednesday (June 2). “They were looking for me to give them some type of funny feedback or clown with it. But all I saw was a dude that’s trying to win an award for playing a cancer patient and really look like a cancer patient. I do my own assessment of character judgment. Right here in my mind, I was like, ‘See? Progress!’ That’s what I’m on today, man. But I have the right to get in your ass if I need to.” Game and 50 have had a contentious relationship ever since Game’s acrimonious split from G-Unit some five years ago. The R.E.D. Album isn’t coming out next month as planned. Game is still working on the opus. “It was July 6,” he says. “But they done pushed it back three times. I feel they’re doing it for a reason. I feel as long as the music is classic and the music is there, a month or two won’t hurt. And it’ll only give more time to perfect my craft.” Game’s new single is called “Ain’t No Doubt About It” and features Justin Timberlake. The two recently shot a video for the song. Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Lets Fans Know ‘He’s Back,’ Dwele Says

‘All I did was my thing: I added harmonies and lent my instrument for the joint,’ singer tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Dwele Photo: Getty Images Dwele’s voice has graced two of Kanye West’s moodiest songs, “Flashing Lights” and his most recent number, “Power.” But the Detroit native insists his contributions to the superstar MC’s work are minimal at best, despite their chemistry. “I got there [to the studio], and ‘Ye had an idea for what he wanted for the song,” Dwele told MTV News about “Power.” “So that’s all his creation. Pretty much all I did was my thing: I added harmonies and lent my instrument for the joint.” The singer’s voice highlights the song’s epic bridge, where his melody mixes with the vocal sample from British rock band King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man.” “Now, this would be a beautiful death,” Kanye raps while Dwele sings: “I’m jumping out the window/ I’m letting everything go/ I’m letting everything go.” “I think it’s dope,” Dwele said. “I think [the record] is doing what it’s supposed to do, as far as letting people know he’s back to rapping. He got some bars on that joint. I enjoy it. It’s one of those joints. I roll down the windows and ride out to it. I usually don’t play stuff that I’m on, but that song bangs.” Dwele is prepping the release of his next album, Wants World Women, later this month, June 29. The project is broken up into three sections, the first focusing on his alter ego and the last on classic “baby-making music.” (He directed three different commercials to highlight all three sections.) The middle section ( World ) addresses current events, in the vein of projects by Donnie Hathaway and Marvin Gaye, Dwele said. “It’s an audio time capsule of things going on in the world right now or with the economy, across the world and in our country the past few years,” he explained. “I’ve had a few songs for a few years now that I wanted to get out, and I really didn’t have the platform to get those out. So I felt like making a specific section on this album. It kind of came as an outlet or gave me the role to finally do it.” What do you think about Dwele’s work? Let us know in the comments! Zach Galifianakis Breaks Down MTV Movie Awards’ Breakout-Star Rivals

‘Hangover’ funnyman selflessly chooses ‘Precious’ star Gabourey Sidibe to take it home: ‘This woman should win it.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zach Galifianakis Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Zach Galifianakis was everywhere in 2009.
