Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’ Video — Watch A Sneak Peek Here!

Full clip premieres Saturday at midnight on MTV. By Shaheem Reid Eminem in “Not Afraid” music video Photo: Interscope The rollout for Recovery is in full swing. Eminem’s new video for “Not Afraid” premieres Saturday at midnight on MTV, and a 15-second clip from the video has hit the Web. In the preview, Marshall Mathers seems to have trouble on his mind. We see him standing on the ledge of a roof, in a basement throwing a chair against the wall and walking the streets of Newark, New Jersey. Em, of course, is no stranger to the Brick City. He used to run heavy with NJ rap collective the Outsidaz, which included Young Zee, Pace Won and Rah Digga. “Not Afraid” debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 a few weeks ago and has been well-received by fans . Em has been overseas promoting Recovery, which drops June 22. On Friday morning (June 4), while speaking to BBC’s Radio 1 , he briefly delved into why he wanted “Not Afraid” to be the lead single from his new project. “It was one of them records that, as soon as it was finished, I felt like it should be the one,” he said on the show. He also revealed why he wanted Rihanna on a track called “Love the Way You Lie.” It was one of them songs I felt like it would be more special with her on it. Rihanna is super talented too.” While in France a few days ago, he opened up about the upcoming album’s next single, “Won’t Back Down,” revealing that Pink was added to the track after it was completed. “When I did the song that I did with Pink, I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record and felt that she would smash this record,” Em said. The RZA Talks Sway & King Tech’s ‘2010 Wake Up Show Anthem’ Video

Bobby Digital says innovative new clip was shot by sending flip cams to guest MCs around the country. By MTV News staff RZA Photo: MTV News It seems only fitting that a rapper named Bobby Digital would be involved in such a technologically resourceful video. Wu-Tang Clan’ s the RZA, a.k.a. Boggy Digital, is one of the MCs featured on the “2010 Wake Up Show Anthem,” the follow-up to MTV News correspondent Sway and his “World Famous Wake Up Show” radio partner King Tech’s groundbreaking “The Anthem.” (The original Eminem-assisted track was released on the radio jocks’ 1999 album This or That. ) The brand-new clip debuts Sunday on MTV Jams. The Wu founder spoke with Sway about the project, saying how amazed he was that the visual was completed via portable, flip-style video cameras. “Technology definitely helped this video,” the RZA acknowledged. “It was a case of artists being in different locations around the country, in different cities. They got these small, pocket cameras now that you can just go and film,” he explained. “There’s a lot of brands out there, but they got ’em. A lot of the video was shot with those types of cameras and then put together. “I remember Tech coming up to my West Coast studio and he came up like, ‘Yo, you’re busting a verse for the video.’ I was like, ‘Huh?’ He just pulled out this small camera and went for it. When I saw the result, I was like, ‘Yo, I gotta get me one of those cameras!’ ” In addition to the RZA, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, Ras Kass, Tech N9ne, Crooked I, Kam Moye and Bay Area rappers Locksmith and Tajai round out the lineup for “2010 Wake Up Show Anthem.” An Internet-only edition is slated to include contributions from DJ Revolution, DJ Qbert and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The RZA participated in both the original and its sequel. Sway said he and Tech followed a tradition of selecting unique contributors to the culture — from Eminem to the RZA — to be a part of the project. “For the ‘Wake Up Show Anthem,’ it’s just usually people or artists that we respect, who are known spitters that innovated their own styles,” Sway said. “Someone like the RZA a.k.a. Bobby Digital, there’s something really distinct about when he came out early in his career as Prince Raheem and then into the Wu-Tang Clan. He’s always had a distinct voice and distinct way that he spit his lyrics. “We try to put together MCs that we feel will have a great synergy and represent something that’s important to hip-hop,” Sway added. Rick Ross Talks ‘Window Seat’ Remix Video With Erykah Badu

‘We continuing where the first ‘Window Seat’ ended,’ Ross tells MTV News. By Shaheem Reid Erykah Badu bled the words “group think” in her critically acclaimed (but nonetheless controversial) “Window Seat” video , but that wasn’t the end of her journey. Badu recently shot a video for the “Window Seat” remix with Rick Ross . “I had to come get the queen,” Ross said about the video. “They had her boxed up.” The clip starts with Ross coming to get the Grammy-winning songstress from jail. “It was only right. I was swerving through Dallas in that Porsche Panorama turbo. I had to slide up on her, scoop her up. We got back to business. We went on another caper. “It’s basically, we continuing where the first ‘Window Seat’ ended,” he added. “Where she was assassinated and ultimately scooped up and arrested. We continuing from there. She’s got a dope cut on her album called ‘Get Money.’ Y’all need to download and check it out. It’s the next single. And it’s the bridge between the assassination, going into the ‘Window Seat’ remix, me doing my sh–. Then we ultimately going into ‘Get Money,’ which I feel is my favorite record off of [New Amerykah Part Two: Return of] the Ankh. ” Like she did in the original video, Badu came up with the concept and directed it with Creative Control as the cinematographers. “She most definitely is a super talented individual,” Ross said. “Of course she’s extremely beautiful. It’s hard to look into her eyes for too long. She’s so sweet. Just to see her creativity. She also directed the video along with her team. To see her vision, just to see her work ethic. She’s like me. We filming to the wee hours. It’s real big. She’s the definition of a strong woman. I’m proud for her to be a strong black woman, just to see her so hands-on with her career. From the producing of her music to the writing of her music. The entire process of her writing her entire album all the way down to directing her videos and editing. For me to be sitting here while she’s [filming the video], doing what she’s doing, the singing. And she’s also checking the angles. It was like, ‘Wow.’ I never knew that. I knew she was super talented and so hands-on and in charge of her entire project. She gets the ultimate boss look.” What do you think of the “Window Seat” remix with Ross? Erykah Badu Strips Again For Vibe Cover

Singer says ‘Window Seat’ video was controversial because ‘sexuality that’s not for male consumption’ makes people uncomfortable. By Jayson Rodriguez Erykah Badu on the July cover of Vibe Magazine Photo: Vibe Magazine Erykah Badu appears to be topless on the cover of the new issue of Vibe, and in her interview with the magazine, she continues to discuss nudity in her “Window Seat” video . In the clip, which Badu debuted on her own website back in March, the singer strips her clothes off as she nears Dallas’ Dealey Plaza as a symbolic gesture of freedom. The move, however, drew criticism for a number of reasons, including the fact that the shoot occurred near the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The singer also received backlash simply for disrobing in a video; online commentators suggested she was using sex to sell her music. Badu scoffed at that notion, though. “I look at some other videos. I’m not naming names, because I don’t want that to be mentioned. There is the thing with sexuality,” Badu told Vibe. “I’m naked for 13 seconds, and these people are naked the whole time and gyrating and saying come ‘lick on my lollipop’ and ‘suck on my cinnamon roll’ and, you know, suggesting sex. People are uncomfortable with sexuality that’s not for male consumption. Could be ’cause I did it in public too. Do you think people would have been complaining if I had on high-heel shoes?” Badu was charged with disorderly conduct over the video and later pleaded not guilty . Badu splits the June/July cover of Vibe with Nicki Minaj, whose cover shot portrays her as a sexy anime-style girl in a maid’s uniform. The pair follows Young Jeezy and Trey Songz, and Chris Brown and Drake as split-cover subjects in the magazine since it re-launched late last year. Justin Bieber Fever Takes Over ‘Today’ Show

Al Roker even gets a policeman to admit he’s got the fever. By Eileen Reslen Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images If a lot of young girls were absent from school on Friday morning (June 4), the cause could well be an outbreak of Bieber fever. Justin Bieber visited the “Today” on Friday morning for a free concert outside NBC studios in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, where the teen sensation played a mini-concert featuring five of his most popular songs. The epidemic wasn’t confined to kids: As the show’s Al Roker pointed out, it wasn’t even above the law. “One question,” Roker asked a policeman. “Sergeant, do you have Bieber fever?” “Yes,” the officer answered with a smirk. “It’s official: The NYPD has Bieber fever,” Roker said. An army of Bieber fans from all over the country filled up the plaza with high-pitched voices and brightly-colored posters. “This may be the biggest crowd we’ve had for days, the show’s Matt Lauer said, to which Meredith Vierra replied, “It reminds me of Paul — Paul McCartney. So, I get it.” The broadcast was taken over by Bieber fever, with almost every segment, from the weather to interviews with celebrities, being “Bieberized.” Roker’s forecast could barely be heard above the fans’ screams, and his signature sign-off was tweaked to say, “Here’s what’s happening in your neck of the Bieberwoods!” “Get Him to the Greek” star Jonah Hill was there to promote the film, and his interview was also obscured by the teen screams. “I have Bieber fever all over my body right now,” Hill joked. Bieber rushed down from his pre-performance rehearsal and interrupted the interview to give Hill a fist-pound for his comments. Before his performance, Bieber told Lauer how much his life has changed since becoming famous. “It’s pretty crazy that now I go out and, you know, I’m always asked for autographs and stuff, but that’s kind of what I signed up for,” Bieber said. He added that his career goal is longevity. “I want to, you know, be an artist that doesn’t just come out with one song and you know, then they’re done,” Bieber said. As he performed in the humid morning air, Bieber bounced around with his background dancers through “Baby” and “One Time” and others without missing a beat, with some of his dance moves seemingly inspired by mentor Usher — he chest pumped and moon-walked across the stage. After the performance, Bieber stuck around to sign some autographs, but not before talking about his upcoming tour. “It starts in like a couple of weeks, so I’m really excited,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of lights and a lot of, like, magic stuff, which is going to be cool.” What did you think of Justin Bieber’s appearance on the “Today” show? Eminem Reveals He’s ‘Rebuilding’ Shady Records

‘There’s a new group we’re looking to sign, Slaughterhouse,’ Em says of hip-hop group. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Universal With the release last year of his album Relapse, Eminem announced to the world that he was looking after himself and his music after a five-year hiatus. Now, as he puts the finishing touches on his follow-up, Recovery, the Detroit MC says he plans to focus on his record label, Shady Records. In an interview with BBC’s Radio 1 on Friday (June 4), Eminem was asked about mentoring up-and-coming rappers, and Em admitted he’d been eying a few acts. “We’re kinda trying to start the process of rebuilding our label, Shady Records,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll be looking for younger talent, coming up. There’s a new group we’re looking to sign, Slaughterhouse,” he said referring to the rap supergroup made up of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, and Royce da 5’9″. “But I don’t want to give anything away. We’re looking at a few [artists] now.” Slaughterhouse has been linked to Em for some time, beginning last year when the foursome appeared with Eminem in Drake’s “Forever” video. Their cameo led to speculation that the heralded underground lyricists would soon be connecting with the Slim Shady camp. Royce da 5’9″ spoke to MTV News in September and didn’t deny the rumors. “It’s very much what it looks like,” Royce said of Slaughterhouse joining the Shady roster. “That’s always a possibility. It’s conversations being had, very good conversations. I just did an interview recently and they asked me to address the rumors. I said, ‘Rumors are what they are, people see things and they jump to a conclusion.’ I never said it wasn’t going to happen — I left it right there in the middle. I think it would be a great thing if it could happen.” Earlier this year, Ortiz said negotiations were in the “ninth inning,” but more important, the Brooklyn wordsmith revealed Slaughterhouse and Emimem have already begun collaborating on music while they wait for the ink to dry on the paperwork. “We got in the studio with Em already,” he said. “We traded bars and stuff with all of us.” Which MCs would you like to see Eminem sign to Shady Records? Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State Of Mind’ To Replace ‘New York, New York’ At Belmont Stakes

NYRA official calls it ‘the quintessential 21st century theme song for New York City.’ By James Montgomery Jay-Z Photo: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa In his massive hit “Empire State of Mind,” Jay-Z raps that he’s “the new Sinatra.” And it turns out he wasn’t joking. During Saturday’s 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes, “Empire” will be played as the horses are brought out onto the race track, replacing Sinatra’s classic “New York, New York,” according to a spokesperson for the New York Racing Association. “[It’s] the quintessential 21st century theme song for New York City,” an NYRA official told The Associated Press. A spokesperson for the NYRA confirmed the change to MTV News. “New York, New York,” (or, as it’s actually called, “Theme From ‘New York, New York,’ “) is most closely associated with Sinatra, though it was actually written for — and first recorded by — Liza Minnelli for the 1977 Martin Scorsese film of the same name. Sinatra recorded it for his 1980 album Trilogy: Past, Present And Future, and it became the last of his many signature numbers. Sinatra’s version has been performed as the field for the Belmont Stakes makes its way to the starting gate since 1997. Before that, the vaudeville tune “Sidewalks of New York” was performed. At Saturday’s race — which is held at Belmont Park on Long Island — teen singer Jasmine Villegas will perform “Empire.” Of course, this isn’t the first time the song has been performed at a sporting event. “Empire” became the unofficial theme song of the New York Yankees’ World Series run last year, with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys doing a version of the tune during Game Two of the Series. Later, Jigga did another take of the song during the Yankees’ championship celebration in Manhattan. Related Artists Jay-Z

MC Hammer ‘Honored’ That Rick Ross Named A Song After Him

‘I don’t know nobody that named their record after another hip-hop artist ever,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid and Jayson Rodriguez MC Hammer Photo: Getty Images The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Black Mafia Family’s Big Meech, Chicago street legend Larry Hoover and hip-hop’s supreme stage commander MC Hammer — Rick Ross salutes a few OGs on his new mixtape, The Albert Anastasia EP. “Bi—, I’m MC Hammer, I’m about cream,” Ross raps on “MC Hammer.” “I got 30 cars/ A whole lot of dancers, I take ’em everywhere/ I’m MC Hammer.” The stage great behind pop-culture explosions such as “Can’t Touch This” and “Pray” said he loves the tribute. “We’ve been back and forth on the tweets, but my thing is one thing only: face to face, man,” Hammer said. “I’m hollering at him face to face. I’m heading to Miami. You saw the tweets, and the bottom line is, it’s a very unique thing for a cat to use your name. I don’t know nobody that named their record after another hip-hop artist ever. The name of the record is ‘MC Hammer.’ That’s crazy. For an artist of Ross’ caliber, that’s a whole ‘nother thing. Arguably, right now, he’s the hottest dude in the game. He’s spitting fire. For a cat on that level, with his skill set, to have a record called ‘MC Hammer’ and do it the way he’s done it, because it pays a lot of respect and homage to what I laid down, you can’t help but be honored by that.” “MC Hammer,” as well as Anastasia ‘s “Blowin’ Money Fast (B.M.F.),” heated up the clubs in Miami over Memorial Day weekend and has had a steady presence in the streets since the tape came out last week. Hammer said he’s humbled by the Bawse’s show of respect. “I done got every award that a man can get in the music business — every one. I got ’em all. Diamond awards, Grammys, American Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards — you name it. Everything that you can do and every accolade you can receive. But that record that Ross did is on the level of all that. That’s how it feels to me.” Hammer, who also said he loved Ross’ “2 Legit 2 Quit” reference in “Mafia Music,” said he’s down to shoot a video for Ross’ theme song but is keeping quiet about any ideas he and Ross might have for the clip. Rick Ross, T.I., Drake Rep The Dirty South At ‘VH1 Hip Hop Honors’

Timbaland, Lil Jon, Paul Wall and others also performed at the event, which airs Monday on VH1. By Jayson Rodriguez Rick Ross Photo: Getty Images NEW YORK — “VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South” might have represented Atlanta, Texas, Miami, New Orleans and everywhere in between, but all points were a unified front for the event Thursday night (June 3) at the Hammerstein Ballroom. “I always say the East Coast is one piece of bread, and the West Coast is another piece of bread,” honoree J. Prince of Rap-a-Lot Records said during the tribute. “And the South is the meat. I describe it that way, ’cause everyone has roots in the South.” Drake, Bun B, the Game, Juvenile and the Geto Boys’ Willie D all performed as a part of the Rap-a-Lot set. Drake paid homage to the late Pimp C as he and Bun joined forces for “Get Throwed.” “Office” actor Craig Robinson replaced Tracy Morgan as host of the festivities, and with the help of Lil Jon and Paul Wall, he received a Southern makeover. “You got to put your money where your mouth is,” Jon told the host, as Paul Wall “DDS” presented Robinson with grillz. Jon and Wall scored plenty of laughs throughout the night via a series of sketches. In one, the pair attempted to dole out directions to a bystander, but the combination of slang (“slabs” and “shawty”) left him confused. Paul Wall also put in time onstage as he, Chamillionaire and Slim Thug were part of the Texas tribute. The Lone Star State, Miami and Atlanta were all recognized, in addition to official honorees Master P, Timbaland, Jermaine Dupri, J. Prince, Luther Campbell and 2 Live Crew, and Outkast producers Organized Noize. JD’s set rivaled the Rap-a-Lot tribute for the highlight of the evening. The producer brought out Dem Franchize Boyz, Diddy and Bow Wow, who brought fans to their feet when he rose from the audience with his clothes on backward, in honor of Kris Kross. ” ‘Cause inside-out is wiggity wiggity wack,” he rapped. Uncle Luke suffered through technical difficulties during the 2 Live Crew set. Mannie Fresh helped keep things moving throughout the delay, shouting out Tony Draper and his pioneering company Suave House Records. Master P’s tribute went through without a hitch. His son Romeo, brother Silkk the Shocker, Trina and Mystikal hit the stage to pay homage. Mystikal was a frenetic force of energy, as he and Romeo performed P’s breakout hit “Make ‘Em Say Ugh.” Gucci Mane, T.I., Bone Crusher, DJ Drama and the Ying Yang twins honored Atlanta, while Trick Daddy, Pitbull, Flo Rida, and Trina repped for Miami. Rick Ross and DJ Khaled proved to be showstoppers as the pair put on mink coats for the Boss’ latest single, “Super High.” Producer Timbaland and Organized Noize brought out a bevy of guest to celebrate their discography, from Fabolous and Keri Hilson to Nelly and Asher Roth. “VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South” airs Monday at 9 p.m. on VH1.
