Justin Bieber Retakes Top Spot On Billboard Albums Chart

Plus, the National hit #3 with High Violet. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 Photo: Island You might slow him down, but you just can’t stop Justin Bieber . The pint-size pop dynamo will be back on top of the Billboard albums charts next week when his second effort, My World 2.0 , makes the leap from #5 back up to the pole position on modest sales of 60,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though the total is one of the lowest for a #1 album this year, it is still enough to push 2.0 over the 1 million mark. Hanging tight just behind Bieber is Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which is down 44 percent to 54,000, just enough to stave off a strong bid from moody indie darlings the National, whose High Violet notches a career-high #3 debut (51,000). Also debuting in the top 10 is the second effort from White Stripes/Raconteurs leader Jack White’s other side project, the Dead Weather, whose Sea of Cowards hits #5 on sales of 45,000. Filipina pop star Charice lands at #8 with her self-titled debut (43,000), edging out metal act As I Lay Dying’s Powerless Rise, which sneaks in at #10 on sales of 38,000. Rounding out the top 10 are: AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 (48,000), the Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour collabo, which slips a bit to 43,000, Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond, which ticks up a bit to 43,000, and Godsmack’s The Oracle, which drops eight slots from last week’s #1 debut to #9, as sales fell 63 percent to 43,000. Just outside the top tier, the Deftones take a major tumble in week two as Diamond Eyes sheds 68 percent of its first week sales to fall 12 spots to #18 (20,000). Toni Braxton’s comeback attempt, Pulse, also falls 13 to #22 (18,000), and righteous rockers MercyMe drop 20 spots to #23 with The Generous Mr. Lovewell (18,000). English piano popsters Keane hit #25 with their latest, Night Train (17,000), while classic rock juggernaut Meat Loaf could only muster a #27 debut with Hang Cool Teddy Bear (15,000). And it’s a modest debut for We Are the Fallen’s Tear the World Down at #33 (13,000), as the first effort from former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody and “American Idol” finalist Carly Smithson fails to impress. Buzzed-about New York noise duo Sleigh Bells make an impressive chart debut at #39 with Treats (12,000), while cameo king Bruno Mars comes in at a modest #99 with his debut EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand (5,000). Next week, look for the much-hyped reissue of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. to chart, as well as the fourth “Glee” album and the major label debut from Band of Horses. Maroon 5 Get Violent In ‘Misery’ Video

‘We decided to focus on violence instead of sex this time around,’ bassist Mickey Madden tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Maroon 5’s Adam Levine Photo: MTV News Maroon 5’s new, Joseph Kahn-directed “Misery” video is many things — almost all of which are violent. “The cool thing is, when Joseph wrote the treatment … after reading a few sentences, I thought it was really amazing,” M5 frontman Adam Levine told MTV on the set of the video. “Because it kind of turns the whole idea of the sexual energy between two people — a guy and a girl, a music video, you’ve seen that a million times — that exists in this video, but it’s turning it on its ass and having the girl be the more domineering one who’s trying to kill me.” “We decided to focus on violence instead of sex this time around,” bassist Mickey Madden added. “We like to switch it up,” Levine joked. “The next one will be about drugs.” We’ll just have to wait and see about that. In the meantime, we have “Misery” to look forward to. The band shot the clip with Kahn last week in Los Angeles, and from the sound of things, it’s going to be very different from anything M5 have done in the past. “I think it’s going to be fun. I just had my first harness experience. That was very interesting. I got lowered onto the street, in the middle of traffic, because I fall off a building,” Levine laughed. “I’m curious to see how it turns out. A lot of falling and violence [so far]. I’ve already been beaten up and thrown off a building today. We’ll have to see what comes next.” And while the “Misery” video is a new look for the band, the song itself — the first single from their upcoming Hands All Over album, which hits stores September 21 — mines familiar territory. Set over a decidedly funky beat, it’s Levine documenting the decay of yet another relationship, something that even he will admit has become his bread and butter in recent years. ” ‘Misery’ is about … the desperation of wanting someone really badly in your life but having it be very difficult. Kind of what all the songs I write are about,” he smiled. “I’m not treading on new ground, but I think a lot of people — including myself — deal with that all the time. Relationships are difficult, and it’s good therapy to write about them.” Are you looking forward to the “Misery” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Maroon 5

N.O.R.E. Explains Unreleased Nas Cameo On The War Report 2

‘It was something in the vault, but we made it brand-new,’ Nore says of ‘With Me.’ By Shaheem Reid N.O.R.E. Photo: Gregg Delman Nas is with it, Capone-N-Noreaga are obviously with it, so all that’s left is for the public to hear it. Nas appears on C-N-N’s new LP, The War Report 2, via the song “With Me,” and, as Nore told us, he didn’t have to go to far for the guest spot. All he had to do was look in the vault. “I can’t remember [how long ago] we finished the song, because me and Nas have recorded so much material in the past,” Nore said. “We came across this [particular song and] made a new beat to it, switched a lot of things around. But it’s a wonderful thing. It’s not a recent verse from Nas. It was something in the vault, but we made it brand-new. If you don’t know it’s old, you won’t know. It’s the way a lot of people want to hear Nas.” Nore and Nas had a falling-out some years ago and really haven’t spoken much since then. N.O., however, said time has healed the wounds, and as you can hear on their album, he doesn’t have any problems with his fellow Queens native. “Me and [Nas’ brother] Jungle speak all the time,” Nore said. “Me and God’s Son haven’t spoke direct, but I been speakin’ to Jungle, so it’s looking like everything is gonna be everything in a minute. You never know when you might see brothers together. At the end of the day, Nas is pro-Queens like I’m pro-Queens, like Akinyele is pro-Queens, like Capone is pro-Queens. Everybody from Queens is pro-Queens. I feel great about [Nas] being a part of this project. That’s always gonna be our O.G., our older brother.” Besides Nas, Raekwon the Chef, the LOX and Busta Rhymes are among the guests on the July 13 album. The duo just shot a video for “Hood Pride” last week in New Jersey. It features guest appearances from Jim Jones and Joell Ortiz. “We’re redoing the movie ‘Life,’ ” Nore explained. “I’m Ray Gibson, which is [played by] Eddie Murphy in the movie, and ‘Pone is Claude Banks who is [played by] Martin Lawrence in the movie. We’re basically going in. Somebody is gonna try to take ‘Pone’s cornbread, and I’m gonna tell him not to let anyone take his cornbread. So we gonna go in. We got Rick Cordero directing, and we’re going to make a funny and great, entertaining video.” Are you hoping for a Noreaga and Nas truce? Let us know in the comments! Ozzy Osbourne Calls Ronnie James Dio One Of Metal’s ‘Greatest Voices’

Ozzy mourns the passing of fellow Black Sabbath frontman, who died on Sunday. By James Montgomery Ronnie James Dio in 1988 Photo: Paul Natkin/WireImage On Monday, Ozzy Osbourne released a statement praising the talents of the late Ronnie James Dio, who died on Sunday of stomach cancer at the age of 67. “I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie James Dio,” Osbourne said in the statement. “Metal has truly lost one of its greatest voices. My heart goes out to his family and to his many fans. … Love and respect.” Dio, who possessed one of the most formidable voices in hard rock, replaced Osbourne in Black Sabbath at the end of the 1970s (after rising to fame with acts like Elf and Rainbow) and led the band through a career resurgence, thanks to albums like Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules. Dio would leave Sabbath to start his own band in late 1982, briefly rejoined in 1990, left again, then joined a final time in 2006, when he fronted the band under the moniker of Heaven and Hell. Osbourne’s statement is just the latest in a series of tributes to Dio’s talent, generosity and kindness that have been pouring in since he passed away. Slayer’s Kerry King said he was lucky to have known him, and called Dio “one of the nicest guys in the business, without a doubt.” Anthrax’s Scott Ian echoed those sentiments, saying, “Every day on tour, he’d have a kind word, a smile and a clap on the back. I feel honored and privileged to even have shaken hands with Ronnie, let alone be able to say we were friends.” A whole new generation of hard rock acts also remembered Dio , with the likes of Killswitch Engage (who covered his classic “Holy Diver”) and Mastodon releasing statements about his passing. Mariah Carey Puts Out Fire Before Show In Egypt

‘Naturally, my emergency instincts kicked in,’ Carey tweets about her heroic moment. By Jocelyn Vena Mariah Carey Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images Mariah Carey saves the day! Just before she lit up the stage for a show in Egypt, the star put out a very literal fire. The singer tweeted about the incident as it was happening. “In Egypt getting ready to go on stage and suddenly there was a surge of power and an electrical fire started under my feet! Wtf?!” she tweeted on Monday. “Naturally, my emergency instincts kicked in and I put out the flames w/a towel. Lol (yet true),” she tweeted. Carey seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor about the incident. “The funny thing about this is an ol’skool radio station in the other room started playing ‘aww freak out!’ @ that exact moment!” She then tweeted her friend, Jasmine Dotiwala, saying, “@jasminedotiwala. Appalled U didn’t tweet to see if I’m ok after the fire incident in Egypt! (Said in my diva theatrical accent: )” Carey also posted a photo of the surge protector that caught fire. “These r the charred remains of my fire on the Nile,” she wrote. This actually isn’t the first time Carey has acted as her own personal firefighter. Hubby Nick Cannon revealed that on one Valentine’s Day , Carey saved the holiday from turning into a burning inferno. “So you walk into this room and all you see is red and lights and candles. We were opening gifts and I smell smoke … the whole room was on fire,” he recalled to MTV News. “And I screamed like a little bitch. Mariah, being a hero that she is, put the fire out. She’s my hero. She’s my Valentine hero, so hopefully this year we won’t set nothing on fire.” Related Artists Mariah Carey

Stone Sour’s Audio Secrecy Is ‘Loaded With Melody,’ Corey Taylor Says

‘It’s probably the best thing I’ve done in a long time,’ says the singer, who also fronts Slipknot. By James Montgomery Corey Taylor Photo: MTV News Corey Taylor isn’t mincing words when it comes to the new Stone Sour album — and yes, he realizes this might offend fans of his other band, Slipknot. “It’s so good, man. Every song has a catchy hook — even the heavy stuff — every song is loaded with melody. It’s still got the attitude, but it’s there. It’s probably the best thing I’ve done in a long time,” he told MTV News. “I mean [Slipknot’s 2008 effort] All Hope Is Gone was a great album, and I worked really hard on it, but on this album … coming in with the amount of material — we recorded 18 songs — and knowing that every tune not only has its own identity but is damn good, I’m very, very proud of that.” Yes, Taylor is willing to talk at great length about Audio Secrecy, the follow-up to Stone Sour’s breakthrough 2006 album, Come What(ever) May. Recorded at Nashville’s iconic Blackbird Studios — the first time he’s made an album outside of Los Angeles or his native Iowa — it’s a record positively brimming with ideas, one that, as he put it, represents “everything that we’ve been threatening to do,” even if that means exploring far quieter, more refined sonic territories. “I finished my last song two days ago, and it’s all killer; there’s no filler. It’s so good. I mean, there’s so many vibes and so many styles, but it’s all cohesive. The continuity is there,” he said. “It doesn’t sound like a comp album, it doesn’t sound like 12 bands coming in going, ‘We’re going to record a song!’ It sounds like a band exploring, which, to me, is [a] really old-school tradition. “You never used to go in and just kind of chop out a bunch of songs and throw it out there. The old guard would go in, and they would just record what they had. They would record the songs that they wrote, because they wrote them. It didn’t have to sound a certain way, didn’t have to be a certain way, it didn’t all have to sound the same,” he continued. “It had life, and that’s what we did with this. … We just said, ‘You know what? We wrote this. So what if this is heavier than that? So what if this is in a major key and these are in minor keys? … We feel this, so let’s go for it.’ ” The funny thing is, though he’ll seemingly never run out of good things to say about the album, there’s plenty he’s mum about. Perhaps in keeping with its title, there’s still no firm release date for Secrecy, and Taylor wouldn’t reveal if all 18 songs would make the final track list (“There’s a plan hatching … that’s all I’m gonna say”). And when asked about his favorite song on the album, he would only say, “They’re all killer,” before singling out a piano-laden track called “Miracles” as a standout. “I play piano on a bunch of songs. One of them is called ‘Miracles,’ which is really dark but kind of crescendos into this huge chorus at the end,” he said. “There’s so much more, though. We have an overabundance of writers in this band. We all write, so it’s not a case of one guy writing all the songs or no one writing the songs. It’s a complete thing.” While Taylor is playing things close to the vest with Stone Sour, things aren’t quite the same with Slipknot. After wrapping a world tour in support of All Hope Is Gone in late 2009, the band went on a rather informal break — and, from the sound of things, not much has changed since then. For the immediate future, Taylor is 100 percent focused on Stone Sour. “There’s nothing really happening [with Slipknot],” he said. “There’s a DVD coming out, apparently, that I will be informed of so I can promote it. Nobody talks to me about these things. I get a complimentary copy. I mean, I still don’t have a copy of [the band’s 2002 DVD] ‘Disasterpieces.’ What the f—?” Are you looking forward to new music from Stone Sour? Let us know in the comments. Ludacris Says ‘The Hangover’ Inspired ‘Sex Room’ Video

‘We got two different versions, one just for the adults and one for the kids,’ the MC says of upcoming clip with Trey Songz. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Ludacris at Wango Tango Photo: Angela Weiss/ Getty Images Ludacris has gone from radio personality to rapper. Most recently, he entered the spirits business, with a cognac called Conjure hitting the top shelf. And now, it seems his latest his latest endeavor is having quite an effect on his art. The Battle of the Sexes star told MTV News his next video, for “Sex Room,” would be inspired by 2010 MTV Movie Awards nominee “The Hangover.” “The ‘Sex Room’ video will be on your tube very soon and on the Internet,” Luda said on the red carpet for KIIS-FM’s annual Wango Tango festival in Los Angeles over the weekend. “We got two different versions, one just for the adults and one for the kids. We did it out in Las Vegas, what better way to do it, me and Trey Songz, it’s pretty self-explanatory. The concept is kind of like ‘The Hangover’ theme, just like the movie. You gotta check it out.” “Sex Room” features Trey Songz, and is the third single from Luda’s latest effort, Battle of the Sexes, which earlier this year debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. While the album is the Atlanta MC’s seventh, it’s his first concept-driven collection. In February he explained the idea behind it to MTV News, saying it was originally slated to be a duets album featuring ‘Cris and former Disturbing Tha Peace artist Shawnna before it morphed into a free-for-all for female MCs. “It’s such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice, so we wanted to hear more of what the hell they had to say,” Luda said. “With that being said, I went out and got women from the past, the present and the future — everyone from Lil Kim, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj . I got records where I’m talking about women … and where women are talking back to me.” What do you think about Ludacris basing his “Sex Room” video on “The Hangover”? Tell us in the comments! Justin Bieber Gets Tattoo — Check Out A Photo!

Young singer’s tattoo is apparently of a bird in flight. By Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Splash News Online When you think about musicians with tattoos, teen sensation Justin Bieber is probably not the first — nor the hundredth — to come to mind. Yet on Monday (May 17), photos emerged showing the young singer getting, and then sporting, a small tattoo on his torso. Two photos are making the rounds: one is a shot of Bieber sitting in a tattoo parlor, shirt pulled up, with the tattoo artist finishing up his work. The other finds him playing on a beach in Sydney, Australia, with the tattoo visible on his pelvis. According to the photographic evidence, the tattoo is of a small bird in flight. And while Bieber’s reps had not commented on the matter at press time, the agency that supplied the photo said the inking took place in March, the tattoo is part of a Bieber family tradition and that his dad, Jeremy Bieber, was alongside Justin when he got the ink at the Son of a Gun tattoo parlor in Toronto. The senior Bieber then “showed his approval by giving a thumbs-up when they posed for a photo with staff.” Bieber’s fans have already taken to Twitter to post their reactions to his ink. “OMG!! U cant believe what I just read!!” treasure_girl8 wrote. “Justin Bieber has a tattoo on the left hip?!?!?! WHAT?? Is that true??” “Whenever my dad tells me I’m a disappointment for having a tattoo, I will remind him that Justin Bieber, 16, has one,” glass_passenger wrote. StopJBFanWar said simply, “Justin Bieber has a tattoo? That’s hot.” Related Photos Justin Bieber Gets A Tattoo Related Artists Justin Bieber

Lloyd Banks Talks Up His ‘Beamer, Benz Or Bentley’ Remix Team

Jadakiss, Ludacris, Yo Gotti and The-Dream are all featured on the new version. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Lloyd Banks ‘ “Beamer, Benz or Bentley,” featuring Juelz Santana, came out of nowhere to be a smash. The song has been such a favorite that artists from Eminem to Joell Ortiz have freestyled on the beat. Banks is grateful for the love from his peers, and last week, he dropped the official remix with a slew of teammates. “Shout-out to everybody who did the record prior to the official remix coming out,” Banks said on Friday from Panama. The remix features Jadakiss, Ludacris, Yo Gotti and The-Dream. “The fans, I think they wanted to hear something new, something fresh,” Banks said. “While I was on tour, the international tour, I kept in communication with all those artists. Shout out to Jada, shout out to Luda, Yo Gotti, The-Dream. I had everybody’s verse except for Dream. That was the last thing that came in. Those were all people I respect and people I would like to work with outside the remix. It ain’t really hard to decide who’s gonna be on it.” Banks also switched up the much-rapped-on beat, making the “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” remix almost an entirely different song. “I had about six different beats,” Banks said. “Just sitting with 50 [Cent], he brought it to my attention to try and change the element a little bit. Being that already 40 or 50 artists already rapped on the [original] beat, it’s kinda hard to decipher what’s the real remix. If they all rapping to the same beat, you can just patch it with the other 40, 50 artists and make a mega-mix and not know what the official remix is. The beat change lets people know off the rip ‘This is the official remix.’ I’m pretty sure they’ll be blending the original beat in with it anyway.” Here, Banks breaks down how each artist came to appear on his remix: The-Dream : “I had spoke to couple of different R&B artists. That’s an element that I think helps. Everybody wants to be a part of that record. I don’t think it has to be kept to one lane. I’ve heard Spanish versions to [the original], Jamaican versions to it, Haitian versions to it. I got a feel of what the melodic feel would bring to the record. The-Dream, he was already doing [his own version]. Once I caught wind of it, I was like, ‘Yo, let me get that. Don’t put that out.’ ” Yo Gotti : “Yo Gotti, I had spoke to him directly. I spoke to him a couple times, told him I wanted to get something done with him. Before that opportunity presented itself, the [song] bubbled all down south in Memphis. I was like, ‘Let’s get Gotti on it.’ He has the street in a chokehold. We’ll probably have more records come in the future also. He definitely has a lane, man, and I wish him luck.” Ludacris : “Luda, that’s the homie, man. Just through that, [it] wasn’t really nothing [difficult]. Luda is out there bubbling, platinum plaques and all that, #1 records, where I’m trying to take it. Shout-out to Luda and shout-out to [Disturbing Tha Peace co-founder] Chaka [Zulu] for making that happen. Jadakiss : “That wasn’t nothing. That wasn’t nothing but a phone call. I spoke to him a few times about the record. I had his verse for a minute. I had his verse while I was overseas and everyone was leaking their versions. We built the beat around his verse. He adds that extra, that lyrical element, that New York City vibe to it. I didn’t want to stand alone on that joint.” What do you think about the “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” remix lineup?
