Black Eyed Peas Debut Futuristic ‘Imma Be/Rock That Body’ Video Online

‘This is what’s gonna take the Peas into 3008,’ Will.I.Am tells his bandmates in the 10-minute piece. By Jayson Rodriguez Black Eyed Peas (file) Photo: Gregg Delman The Black Eyed Peas ‘ Will.I.Am has been promising bigger things lately from his four-person collective, and it’s safe to say the eccentric producer has been delivering every time. From their standout Grammy performance, which the BEP frontman predicted would be a spectacle , to their world tour , which is set to include “things flying and the stage transforming,” it doesn’t look like the group will be slowing down anytime soon. On Wednesday, the record-breaking hip-hop act premiered their latest video, an epic clip for their new singles “Imma Be” and “Rock That Body,” online. The 10-minute video was directed by Rich Lee and features the Peas on a mission to jumpstart the party in the year 3008. The visuals open with Will.I.Am showing his bandmates the product inside a steel briefcase that he has next to him. The contents of the case comprise a technology that can capture his vocals and reproduce them singing or rapping at the touch of a button. “This right here is the future,” he tells Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo. “This is what’s gonna take the Peas into 3008.” Fergie, though, is happy with where the group is in 2010. After scoring their first two #1 hits last year, who can blame her? So she storms off in a huff leaving the fellas in Will’s studio. What follows next is an X-Men meets The Matrix -like adventure. Fergie mysteriously wakes up after pulling away from the guys on her motorcycle only to find herself transported into the future. She later reconnects with Will, and the two of them flee in a hover-car from a gigantic robot who, presumably, wants to stop the party. A big no-no for the Peas. Halfway through the clip, “Imma Be” transitions into the even more upbeat “Rock That Body” and the tables turn. Fergie is kidnapped and the rest of the Peas are now in hot pursuit of their First Lady. The guys ultimately get their girl, blasting away at bystanders along the way who start breakin’ after being struck by the rays. In the end, however, the evil robot can’t compete with the Peas’ partying. It loses a dance-off and tumbles to the ground. So the groove wins. And Fergie, who was previously resistant to Will’s forward thinking (“You can’t call yourself futuristic and be afraid of the future,” he said earlier in the clip), then awakens only to discover she crashed just blocks away from the studio. With the group surrounding her, a smile crosses her face as she responds to their assistance. “I got the greatest idea for a video …,” Fergie tells her confused band mates. Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ Video A Love Letter To Her Fans

Clip gives fans an inside view of singer’s life on the road. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty Images Taylor Swift loves her fans, and she isn’t shy about giving props to those who have helped make her the award-winning superstar she is today. So it seems fitting that when she put together the video for her song “Fearless” she made sure to give her fans an inside view of what it’s like to go on tour with the pop star. “You guys, this tour has been the best experience of my entire life,” Swift tells her band before they step onstage. The video features behind-the-scenes footage of Swift and her band as they take her sold-out Fearless tour across the country. The video also features footage from the tour itself with fans excitedly showing off signs to the pop star. Although the song is a love letter to the perfect first date, the video is really Swift’s love letter to her fans. It ends with the singer waving goodbye to them as she makes her way off the stage. “I really thought about what that word [‘fearless’] means to me, and I guess, to me, fearless doesn’t mean you’re completely unafraid and it doesn’t mean that you’re bulletproof,” she told MTV News when the Fearless album dropped in late 2008. “It means that you have a lot of fears, but you jump anyway.” On the Web site for her record label, Big Machine Records , she explains what the song means to her. “This is a song about the fearlessness of falling in love. When I wrote ‘Fearless,’ I wasn’t dating anyone. I wasn’t even in the beginning stages of dating anybody. I really was all by myself out on tour and I got this idea for a song about the best first date,” she explained. “I think sometimes when you’re writing love songs, you don’t write them about what you’re going through at the moment, you write about what you wish you had. So this song is about the best first date I haven’t had yet.” Related Photos Star Gazing: Taylor Swift Related Artists Taylor Swift

Avril Lavigne Falls Through The Rabbit Hole For ‘Alice’ Video

Clip features scenes from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ along with newly shot scenes of Canadian pop star. By Jocelyn Vena Avril Lavigne in “Alice” Photo: Disney It’s a tale as old as time: Distraught girl sees bunny, follows him, falls down rabbit hole and finds herself in a mad, mad world. It also happens to be the plot for Avril Lavigne’s new music video, “Alice,” off the “Alice in Wonderland” soundtrack , which premiered on Vevo . The video opens with Lavigne decked out in modern-day pop-punk street clothes. She sees a rabbit and follows him into a world that features Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, a piano and lots and lots of mushrooms. In this world, it seems, she must wear an old-timey dress. Scenes from the film are edited with newly shot scenes of Lavigne. The Canadian pop star stares and runs around aimlessly as she sings, “When the world’s crashing down/ When I fall and hit the ground/ I will turn myself around/ Don’t you try to stop me.” In one scene, she sits down at the Mad Hatter’s tea party before running off to try to find her way back home. Eventually all works out for Lavigne. She’s back in the real world with her memories of Wonderland safely intact as she fondly looks back. Lavigne recently blogged about the video’s premiere , writing, “I had so much fun doing this video. We shot it in the Los Angeles Arboretum. … It was beautiful. We wanted the visuals to capture the spirit of the movie.” Although the video gives fans a taste of what they can expect from the Tim Burton-directed flick, Lavigne says that writing the song for the film has amped up her desire to see the finished product. “I feel very lucky to be a part of Tim Burton’s new film ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ” she blogged about the project . “Working on this project was such a treat! It was such a great experience and Tim Burton was an absolute pleasure. He is very smart. I am so grateful for this opportunity … and can’t wait to see the whole film!!!!” Related Photos Freeze Frames: “Alice In Wonderland” “Alice In Wonderland” Related Artists Avril Lavigne

Lady Gaga Discusses Her ‘Very Forward’ Brit Awards Performance

Singer planned to do ‘something that I felt was a true representation of the future.’ By James Dinh Lady Gaga performs at the Brit Awards Tuesday Photo: Jon Furniss/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s awards-show performances have been a big part of her story over the past year, but her set at the Brit Awards on Tuesday night took on a more serious meaning, as she dedicated it to her friend, designer Alexander McQueen , who died earlier this month. After the ceremony, the singer spoke to reporters about her emotional tribute and her success at the show. “I wanted to do a very, very forward performance, something that I felt was a true representation of the future,” she said of her McQueen tribute. “I re-inspired my song ‘Telephone’ into an acoustic, sort of jazz version, and then I went into a song called ‘Dance in the Dark,’ and I used a brand-new instrument that the Haus of Gaga has built named Emma.” Along with her memorable performance, Gaga also won awards in all three of her nominated categories, including Best International Album, Best International Female Solo Artist and International Breakthrough Act. “I really did not expect to win all three tonight, or really any at all, so I’m just so excited,” she told the BBC Radio 1 . “Honestly, I’m never the one who wins all the awards, and I have never been the one to feel like the winner my whole life. I’ve always been an outsider, so I really felt so accepted tonight and like people really understand my music and my message and what I do.” And how did she plan to celebrate? “I am going to get miserably drunk with all of my friends and celebrate and get ready,” she said, presumably referring to her British tour , which begins February 18 in Manchester and wraps in March, then heads to New Zealand, Australia and Japan. Jermaine Dupri Remakes ‘Secret Garden’ With Usher, Trey Songz, Robin Thicke

JD keeps Barry White’s original verse on the Quincy Jones cover: ‘I had to leave him.’ By Shaheem Reid Jermaine Dupri Photo: MTV News DALLAS — It’s apparently the season to remake the classics. Mary J. Blige recently recorded a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and we all know about the remake of “We Are the World.” Now, Jermaine Dupri is spearheading a new version of a classic song, and just like “We Are the World,” it’s another Quincy Jones tune. JD has called on Usher, Robin Thicke, Tyrese and Trey Songz to cover Jones’ 1989 hit “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite).” The original version starred seductive vocalists James Ingram, Al B. Sure, El DeBarge and the incomparable Barry White. Right before the NBA All-Star Game, Dupri talked about his and his team’s rendition. “It took a minute for me to even think about touching it,” JD admitted. “It’s a couple of components in that record that you don’t wanna touch — Barry White being one of the main components. I had to leave him [on the song]. There’s nobody out there in the world that’s got a voice like his or even sounded the way he sounded. So I had to make sure I could leave that. It’s gonna be interesting for y’all to hear how these young guys sound mixed in with him.” In 1989, “Secret Garden” was one of the highlights of Quincy Jones’ Grammy-winning Back on the Block LP. Each vocalist had a verse and an opportunity to sing to the ladies. “Luckily, it’s a record that hip-hop really embraced as a ballad,” JD said. “It was a record I lived with so much. I kinda felt it was a record that was a part of my life. So it wasn’t that hard for me to get into it. But I just had to figure out all the ways and who to put on the song. I feel that at the time [Quincy] made the record, each one of the guys had a certain thing for the ladies.” Jermaine said his version will woo the females all over again. “I think Robin Thicke got something for the ladies,” Dupri said. “Usher, definitely. Trey, definitely. And Barry White. That was hard, because I wanted to put Anthony Hamilton on there, Maxwell on there. But it’s hard, because it’s only a four- or five-man [song]. That was the hardest part for me.” Jermaine said the “Secret Garden” remake will appear on a new Quincy Jones album; no release date has been announced. Sade’s Soldier Of Love Marches Into Billboard #1

Singer’s first album since 2000 leads next week’s albums chart, followed by Lady Antebellum and Jaheim. By Gil Kaufman Sade’s Soldier Of Love Photo: Epic Apparently, it doesn’t matter how long Sade stays away, because as soon as she slinks back into our lives, we can’t get enough of the enigmatic Helen Folasade Adu, whose last album came out in 2000. The smooth-as-silk singer will easily take the top spot on next week’s Billboard 200 charts with her sixth full-length album, Soldier of Love, capitalizing on the Valentine’s Day holiday and racking up impressive sales of 502,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That feat was enough to push the previous two-week champ, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now down to #2, as sales slipped a fraction to 208,000. Debuting at #3 is R&B crooner Jaheim , whose Another Round moved 112,000 units, followed by two more new faces in the top 10, country singer Josh Turner with Haywire (#5, 85,000) and Christian pop act tobyMac , with Tonight (#6, 79,000). The rest of the top 10 are Lil Wayne ‘s Rebirth (#4, 89,000, down 49 percent), Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame (#7, 76,000), the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (#8, 67,000), Susan Boyle ‘s I Dreamed a Dream (#9, 51,000) and Taylor Swift ‘s Fearless (#10, 50,000). Canadian crooner Michael Bubl

Russell Simmons, Jermaine Dupri Aren’t Mad At John Mayer For Playboy Interview

‘He didn’t mean anything by it,’ Simmons says of Mayer’s controversial comments. By Shaheem Reid Russell Simmons Photo: MTV News John Mayer has apologized for his multiple controversial comments in his recent Playboy interview — one of which involved a racial slur — and rappers like N.O.R.E. and Talib Kweli took Mayer to task for his statements last week. But Russell Simmons and Jermaine Dupri said during NBA All-Star weekend that they aren’t mad at him — in fact, Simmons even gave Mayer “a pass” (although he didn’t mean ‘hood pass). “He’s a nice guy. He don’t know,” Simmons said on the red carpet at Jay-Z and LeBron James’ “Two Kings Dinner and Afterparty” presented by Bing and Sprite. “If you live in Beverly Hills, you might think there’s a post-racial society and the pain is gone. A lot of black people use that word, all the time — myself included — kind of as a way to ease the pain from it. You sort of forget that it even existed. We can do that. But when you see people outside of the community do that, it’s more hurtful. He didn’t mean anything by it. I give him a pass. He’s hard on his girls [Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston], though, ain’t he? On the black community, it’s not so hard. That’s my opinion.” Jermaine Dupri had a different but related take on Mayer’s comments. “I thought it was a funny-ass interview,” Dupri said on Sunday at the NBA All-Star game. “I personally think he thought he was talking to Playboy and it wasn’t gonna get to the rest of the world. I guess he underestimated his power and how famous he is and people took it the wrong way. Not to say what he said was cool, but I thought it was a funny interview. It’s his private parts and whatever he wants to do with ’em, that’s what he wants to do with ’em. That’s not for us to judge. I think we in his business too much. I think he [went] the wrong way about saying it. I love the Jessica Simpson part though.” What do you think of the debate over John Mayer’s Playboy interview?
