People protesting the gun industry gathered for a rally outside Glock’s North American headquarters in Smyrna Thursday evening (February 7). The purpose of the protest…
Uhmmm… WTF?? Now they’re comparing gun ‘ discrimination ‘ to our struggle? Via The Raw Story : The former president of the National Rifle Association invoked both conspiracy theories and racial discrimination to decry a potential ban on assault weapons on an NRA radio show Friday. “Banning people and things because of the way they look went out a long time ago,” Marion Hammer told host Ginny Simone. “But here they are again. The color of a gun. The way it looks. It’s just bad politics.” According to Media Matters, Hammer’s interview was in response to Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) proposed ban, which is based on a firearm’s capacity, rather than its appearance. However, Simone encouraged Hammer’s inaccurate claim. “They even admit this is about banning the ugliest guns, it’s about cosmetics and it has nothing to do about how a firearm works,” the host said. As Feinstein explained in a press release last month, her proposed ban — a revival of legislation she authored that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 — names specific types of “military-style” weapons, while exempting both legally-bought weapons and weapons specifically used for hunting. Hammer said the previous law “paled in comparison” to Feinstein’s new proposal, a response to last month’s mass school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in which the gunman used an AR-15 assault rifle, among other weapons. “We’ve tried to tell people that in order to control the masses they have to take your guns,” she insisted. “We saw it in Cuba. I mean we have so many Cuban-Americans who understand. But there are just too many people who don’t believe it can happen here. And I hope they are right, but in order to keep it from happening here it’s going to be a massive, expensive and long fight.” Seriously though?!?! You and your gun(s) need to take a seat. Which would you rather have, less guns or more funds? New York State Says Assault Weapon Confiscation Could Cost $1 Billion Via NYPost New York state can’t afford to confiscate all the assault rifles out there. The number of such military-style weapons in the state — including the New York-made Bushmaster used in the Sandy Hook massacre — is at least 1 million, far higher than even some local criminal-justice experts realize, gun-industry experts say. And given that the weapons are worth $1,000 or more apiece, a buyback would cost the state at least $1 billion, since even Cuomo administration officials concede that their owners would have to be compensated financially. “The cost of confiscation would make it impracticable, if there’s anything approaching a million of them, putting aside the other issues that would be involved,’’ said one Cuomo administration source. Joke’s on the Gov. Last week, Gov. Cuomo suggested during a radio interview that “confiscation could be an option’’ when developing a newly restrictive policy on assault-style rifles. While a Cuomo aide estimated their number at just 30,000, industry experts who have firsthand knowledge of gun sales in New York over many years say there are “at least’’ a million semiautomatic rifles modeled on the military’s M16s legally in the hands of New Yorkers. We understand that people want to get these weapons off the streets ASAP, but it would be shame to spend ALL that money, which schools desperately need, on paying people for their weapons. Image via
Following a press conference in which the NRA lobbied for guns in school , organization president Wayne LaPierre appeared today on Meet the Press and defended his group’s position. “If it’s crazy to call for putting police in and securing our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” LaPierre told David Gregory, challenging the host by adding: “Most of the media, they’re protected by armed guards.” Wayne LaPierre on Meet the Press When asked if there was any gun legislation he would support, LaPierre refused to answer. Later on the show, Senator Chuck Schumer said LaPierre’s position is “so extreme and so tone-deaf, he actually helps the cause [of gun control]… He is so doctrinaire and so adamant, I think many gun owners don’t support him.” This issue, of course, is at the forefront of the country after Adam Lanza killed 26 people inside Sandy Hook Elementary School just over a week ago. Congress is allegedly working on an assault weapons ban , while President Obama and Vice President Biden appear dedicated to the passing some kind of major legislation. Would you be behind it? Do you support a change in the gun control laws? YES. Fewer guns, fewer tragedies! NO. It’s unconstitutional and won’t stop anything! View Poll »

Heidi Montag wants to star in Transformers 3. The events seen on this week’s Lost finale will come true before that happens, but her lobbying for the role resulted in an excuse to post these pics, so we’ll permit it. Speaking of permits, hopefully she and Spencer Pratt have the proper documentation for those guns. No, really, they are packing serious heat at the shooting range: EXHIBITS A & B : Of why our nation needs an assault weapons ban . In an effort to land the movie role vacated by Megan Fox, the 23-year-old Hills star posted a 30-second video clip of her shooting skills on her Facebook page. Heidi turns to the camera and says, “This is for you, Michael Bay,” before moving around a firing range hitting targets … from just a few feet away. Amazing. While you’d probably rather look at Megan Fox pictures than Heidi Montag pictures, the former hasn’t brought along the paparazzi to the firing range lately. That we know of, anyway. Anyway, click to enlarge these hilarious Speidi pics: [Photos: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com]
