Chris Brown returned to the Grammy Awards for the first time in three years Sunday night, notching a win for Best R&B album and putting on a spirited live performance. Three years after assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the eve of the Grammys, Brown (who was convicted of felony assault) took that Staples Center stage. The 22-year-old won over the crowd with a glow-in-the-dark rendition of “Turn Up the Music” and “Beautiful People.” Take a look at the singer’s effort below … Chris Brown Grammy Awards Performance There were no innuendos or screen cuts to ex-flame Rihanna. Chris Brown simply finished his songs, stood triumphantly and saluted the crowd before taking a bow. Breezy – as Brown is nicknamed – made the night an even bigger success when he went on to win his first ever Grammy Award, for Best R&B Album for F.A.M.E . “People who make mistakes and learn from them are ROLE MODELS too. Im just happy to inspire growth and positivity, #TEAMBREEZYdidit” Brown tweeted. The haters and the skeptics remain in large quantities, but if his actions continue to match such words, he’ll be on his way to a great career comeback.
Two of the slickest superstars on the planet are pitted against each other in this Fashion Face-Off. First, we have LL Cool J, the host of the 2012 Grammy Awards, who had the unenviable task last night of MCing an event over which a pall had been cast, due to Whitney Houston’s tragic death. But the actor/rapper kicked off the ceremony with a prayer and handled his duties as well as could be expected. His competition? Bruno Mars, producer/performer extraordinaire, and possibly the most talented man in the music business today. Compare. Contrast. And vote between these icons below:
TMZ says Coroner’s officials have told icon’s family she likely died from drugs and alcohol; daughter Bobbi Kristina released from hospital. By Jocelyn Vena Whitney Houston Photo: Epsilon/ Getty Images On Sunday night, the life and impressive career of Whitney Houston was celebrated at the 2012 Grammy Awards , with everyone from Bruno Mars to host LL Cool J and Jennifer Hudson recalling the immense talent of the late icon. Since her passing on Saturday, more reports have surfaced about what might have contributed to her death . After initial speculation that she might have drowned in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room, a new TMZ report suggests that prescription drugs and alcohol might have played a bigger part in her death than originally believed. Sources tell the site that L.A. County Coroner’s officials have told Houston’s family that despite earlier drowning reports, it’s likely she died of a combination of Xanax, other prescription drugs and alcohol. There wasn’t enough water in her lungs to suggest that drowning played a part, the report says, and she might have died before her head was submerged in water. Her body was reportedly found by her aunt, Mary Jones, who entered the bathroom to check on the singer. Houston’s body will be flown to Atlanta once it is released from the coroner’s office, sources said. Meanwhile, Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina , has been released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being treated for a stressed-induced panic attack shortly after her mother’s death. Since Houston’s passing, Bobbi Kristina’s father, Bobby Brown, has flown to L.A. to be with his daughter, E! News reports. According to a People.com eyewitness, when he landed in L.A., “Bobby had a blank stare and looked exhausted … His friends seemed concerned about him and they surrounded him as they walked through the airport.” He had been on tour with New Edition when he left the trek to join Bobbi Kristina. Sunday’s hospitalization allegedly wasn’t the only health scare for the 18-year-old over Grammy weekend. TMZ reports that she had fallen asleep in the bathtub Friday at the same hotel where her mother was found dead the next day. Bobbi Kristina’s friends reportedly called security to unlock the door and help them remove her from the tub. Share your condolences with Whitney’s family and friends on our Facebook page. Twitter followers debate about the performance, while one hip-hop expert tells MTV News it signals Minaj’s ‘push for pop.’ By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj’s Grammy performance Sunday night (February 12) was spirited, to say the least. Beginning her set with the “Exorcism of Roman” mini-movie, Minaj unleashed her alter ego onstage in a horror-themed backdrop and debuted her “Roman Holiday” single. It was the most elaborate of the night’s Grammy performances and has everyone talking. AllHipHop.com founder Chuck Creekmur thinks the performance will be among the most-talked-about tomorrow. “I definitely felt like she was reaching out to the mainstream with this performance, trying to make that full leap into the pop world,” he told MTV News. “She’ll definitely have people talking. Obviously, we’ve seen this before with Madonna and Lady Gaga — especially Gaga.” Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Nicki’s fanatic following on Twitter was in full support of Minaj’s display. “@NICKIMINAJ that is a monumental M4L for you and us. I’m in love with your performance,” @SlickerGuy tweeted. Others weren’t as turned on by the Harajuku Barbie’s set. “Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, I’m all about expression, but it has gone overboard. Love Adele cause her focus is on music, not controversy,” @thekatiestevens wrote. “I liked Nicki Minaj’s performance. Too many people be sipping on that hater aid! Hahaha,” @_lookslikeali wrote, responding to all the negative comments. While he did praise her for pushing the envelope, Creekmur thought Minaj was slowly shifting out of the hip-hop universe for poppier pastures. “One part theater and one part music — it just felt very much like she almost abandoning her hip-hop roots and really making a push for pop,” he said. “Not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely a concerted effort; when you’re making the leap and you know you’re not coming back.” Stick with MTV News for all the news on Whitney Houston’s tribute, the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and more until the hangover wears off! Sincere prayer on a Hollywood stage? You don’t see that every day, but Sunday was not an average day. At the beginning of the 2012 Grammy Awards, host LL Cool J paid tribute to Whitney Houston, who died the previous day at 48 . “There’s no way around this,” he said, addressing a silent crowd. “We’ve had a death in our family, and so at least for me, the only thing that feels right is to begin with… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : The Hollywood Gossip Discovery Date : 13/02/2012 02:32 Number of articles : 2
‘It’s amazing for our scene to finally get the respect that I think it deserves,’ Guetta tells MTV News. By Zachary Swickey deadmau5 performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images While grandparents around the world celebrated the reunion of the Beach Boys at the 54th annual Grammy Awards , fans of electronic dance music held their glow sticks high after the dubstep movement’s leader, Skrillex (24-year-old Sonny Moore), took home three Grammys out of his impressive five nominations — not to mention the live performances from David Guetta and deadmau5 during the telecast. Skrillex — who went from fronting a screamo punk band to being a digital DJ in a few short years — managed to snag awards for Best Dance Album, Best Dance Recording (for “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”) and Best Remix (for his “Cinema” collaboration with Benny Benassi). He lost out on his other two noms, for Best New Artist (folk crooner Bon Iver took that one ) and Best Short Form Music Video (a sweeping Adele nabbed that). Check out our top 10 EDM artists of 2011! EDM’s road to the mainstream hit a high also thanks in part to the particularly awesome pairing of Lil Wayne and Chris Brown for “I Can Only Imagine” with the turntables helmed by French super-producer David Guetta, who at 44 is finally getting some Stateside love (let’s not forget his other ridiculously catchy single “Memories” with Kid Cudi and current chart-dweller “Turn Me On” with Nicki Minaj). “It’s like having a rave outside the Grammys, and I love it!” Guetta told MTV News when asked about his performance before the show. Guetta was happy the EDM community is finally getting some Grammy love, saying, “It’s really exciting, because they wanted to acknowledge electronic dance music, and I think it’s amazing for our scene to finally get the respect that I think it deserves.” An even more surprising performance came from the Foo Fighters and their electronic-music breakdown courtesy of scene icon deadmau5 (many female fans in the crowd could even be seen donning neon “mau5-hats”) for the latter half of their hit tune “Rope.” “deadmau5 is maybe the only EDM artist I know, because we did a bunch of festivals over the summer, and for whatever reason, he would be headlining over there while we were headlining over here,” Grohl told MTV News. “I guess people thought that our audiences would split, but our audiences are compatible in a way, because what he does … rocks.” deadmau5 returned the gratitude to the Foo Fighters, telling us about their performance: “It was actually really well thought out over a month or so. Dave [and the Foo Fighters] were a natural choice for me, because I love their music.” Stick with MTV News for all the news on Whitney Houston’s tribute, the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and more until the hangover wears off! Singer makes victorious return to the spotlight after throat surgery, earning a standing ovation and six Grammys. By John Mitchell Adele wins Album of the Year at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images The five records vying for Album of the Year couldn’t have been more different, leaving Grammy voters with a tough decision to make. From the soulful heartbreak of Adele’s 21, the power rock of the Foo Fighters’ Wasting Away and the retro reggae-pop of Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans to the anthemic four-on-the-floor dance-stompers of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and the sexy R&B beats of Rihanna’s Loud, each and every record brought something new to the table. But in the end, there could only be one — and the winner wasn’t exactly a surprise. As expected Adele’s 21 took home the Album of the Year trophy, putting the cap on an excellent night that saw the British superstar earn a minutes-long standing ovation for her performance of “Rolling in the Deep” and sweep through many of the major categories, winning Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Someone Like You,” and Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Rolling in the Deep.” Music legend Diana Ross presented Adele with the award, and the pop powerhouse first thanked her mother, declaring, “Mum, girl did good.” Adele could not contain her excitement and became emotional during her acceptance speech. With an ear-to-ear smile and tears in her eyes, she thanked her record company, producers and band. “This record is inspired by something that is really normal and everyone’s been through it, [that’s] a rubbish relationship,” Adele told the audience. “And it’s gone on to do things … I can’t tell you how I feel about it. It’s been the most life-changing year.” The singer then earned a laugh from the audience when she had to stop mid-speech to wipe her running nose. Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Much of 21 was inspired by Adele’s failed relationship with a man 10 years her senior. Following the success of her moody, ballad-heavy debut, the singer hoped to make a more-upbeat and contemporary-sounding record, but the sessions went nowhere, resulting in just one completed track, “Take It All.” The song was written after a fight with her boyfriend, and when Adele played him the song, it instigated a heated argument that ended their relationship. Heartbroken but musically reinvigorated, Adele immediately hit the studio and began channeling her heartbreak into lyrics, working with veteran producers Ryan Tedder (Beyonc
Dave Grohl especially excited about Best Hard Rock/Metal win for ‘White Limo’: ‘That’s kind of the coolest song we’ve ever written.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Foo Fighters win Best Rock Performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images Music’s biggest night has come and gone , with Adele and the Foo Fighters walking away with the most Grammy loot. Although Adele bested the Foos with her six Grammy wins compared to their five, the rockers owned the night in their own way, including their part in a tribute to electronic music that also featured David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and deadmau5 . When MTV News caught up with the band on the Grammy red carpet — when they had already won four trophies, including Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “White Limo,” Best Rock Song for “Walk,” Best Rock Album for Wasting Light and Best Long Form Music Video for “Foo Fighters: Back and Forth” — we chatted them up about their pre-show wins, specifically the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance trophy, which frontman Dave Grohl had expressed earlier was the one he wanted most. “We got it!” Grohl said. “I feel so bad for the Dream Theater guy, because they actually had a metal performance, we didn’t, but it’s awesome. That’s kind of the coolest song we’ve ever written,” he said of the edgy “White Limo.” Producer Butch Vig fondly recalls his Wasting Light sessions with the Foos to MTV News. The bandmembers were very relaxed and unaffected by their wins. When we mentioned that their fourth win for Best Rock Album is now the most any rock band has won, they were completely surprised, but grateful nonetheless that they could sit back and focus more on their own performance and the EDM tribute versus the awards. “It’s kind of nice. Now we can just sit there and play and not worry about Grammys anymore,” Grohl said. “I think if we win them all, we look like di–s.” Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Grohl said the band was amped up for their EDM performance with deadmau5 not only because he made a really “clever” remix of their hit “Rope,” but because the onstage collaboration was so unexpected. “We’re going to begin with our [version of ‘Rope’] and kind of mash up and transition into his,” Grohl said. “It’s so un-us, though, when you hear it that it’s awesome,” drummer Taylor Hawkins chimed in.
