Backstreet Boy jokes to MTV News that he’ll be ready ‘if she does, by chance, pick me to do that’ on Femme Fatale Tour. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Howie D is set to hit the road with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour this weekend, but there’s one thing he may not be ready for: getting one of her famous onstage lap dances . “I just heard about it, and it just means that I have to go into major workout mode now,” the Backstreet Boy joked to MTV News. “I have to do more pushups and crunches than I ever did, because I want to make sure that I represent myself and my group properly.” If Brit does decide to give him a lap dance, he already sees a potential perk. “If she does, by chance, pick me to do that, which I’m not opposed to, it’s a good get-out-of-jail-free card for me,” he laughed, pointing to his wedding band. “So I’m down with it. It’s all in the name of music.” The string of South American tour dates happens to be timed perfectly to the release of Howie D’s first-ever solo album, Back to Me, and he’s got some fun stuff in store for lucky fans who come to check him out. “Well, I’m actually taking a lot from what I’ve learned from the Backstreet Boys and implementing it into my show,” he revealed. “Actually, on the show with me I have a DJ that’s behind me and we’re kind of working on some stuff together. [There’s] even some Backstreet Boys songs. I’m definitely not shying away and presenting what the fans want to hear, but at the same time premiering some of my new songs off the record and it’s just gonna be a fun, energy-packed, ‘get your mind away for 20 minutes’ on my set [show].” Related Artists Howie D. Now, Brit is taking the Backstreet Boy on tour with her in South America. By Jocelyn Vena Howie D Photo: MTV News Britney Spears may be the leading lady on the Femme Fatale Tour, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to bring some guys along for the ride. Next up, Backstreet Boy Howie D is slated to hit the road with Spears, following in the footsteps of DJ Pauly D and Joe Jonas . The South American tour dates — which kick off November 20, days after Howie releases his solo album Back to Me — were an enticing offer to the pop singer. “I embraced it with open arms,” he told MTV News of the trek, which ends November 28. “She’s such a great, talented person. We’ve known each other for many, many years.” He isn’t lying: Howie and Britney grew up together in the industry, with the Backstreet Boys and Spears two of the figureheads of the late-’90s pop revival. Howie said they’re rooted in the same place, which will lend itself nicely to touring together. “We kind of came out of the same camp, out of the Orlando pop scene with us and ‘NSYNC and Britney,” he recalled. “I feel like we’ve all grown together and have very similar, parallel lives with us and our music, [with] certain moments being very, very hot, certain moments not, and just riding the wave up and down as it’s going. Even [with our] personal lives, having families, having kids. I have a huge respect for her, not only as an artist, but as a person. It’s good to be around people you’ve known and people you’ve grown up with.” So what keeps people coming back for more from the likes of Howie and Britney? He has a theory: “It’s a test of good music being out there,” he said. “We really take pride in making good records, timeless records, and being true to our craft and trying to give our fans what they want … trying to constantly take each record to the next level, push the envelope.” Do you want Howie to tour with Britney in the States? ‘There seems to be a rush of pop stars who are just stumbling over themselves to be on ‘Glee,’ ‘ Donnie Wahlberg tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena NKOTBSB’s Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell Photo: MTV News After a full show dedicated to their pop contemporary Britney Spears, NKOTBSB’s music (or their individual songs as New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) seems like a perfect fit for “Glee.” And considering that “Glee” star Matthew Morrison will be joining the boy-band supergroup on tour later this summer, perhaps now is the right time to get some of their classic pop tunes on the hit Fox show. “I think it would be probably flattering to be on ‘Glee,’ but there seems to be like a rush of pop stars who are just stumbling over themselves to be on ‘Glee,’ ” New Kids’ Donnie Wahlberg told MTV News backstage at the Izod Center before they took the stage later that night. He added that it would have to be the perfect scenario to make it all work out for the guys. “I think if we found a way, collectively, it would be wonderful. It would be a treat, an honor,” he said. “It would be wonderful for a lot of our fans. I think we’re so focused on the tour … it would be a wonderful treat, but we’re doing this.” While the fate of their music on the show is open to debate, Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell seemed pretty open to putting his acting chops to work instead. He even had a character in mind should a cameo scenario work itself out. “I’m a character. I’ll play anybody,” he said. “I’ll play the shady-looking youth minister. Coming from the Bible Belt, it’s creepy.” Which New Kids or Backstreet song would you want to hear on “Glee”? Share your ideas in the comments! Related Artists NKOTBSB

Mega-boy band doesn’t disappoint hyped-up crowd at the Izod Center. By Jocelyn Vena NKOTBSB perform on tour (file) Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — NKOTBSB took their act to the Izod Center on Monday night, and it’s safe to say that for former teenyboppers everywhere, the matchup of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys was the best show ever. It was a whirling, swirling boy-band bonanza complete with raging hormones, pop music and dancing in the aisles. The guys kept the audience on their feet from beginning to end, singing with a live backup band and accompanied by their sleek boy-band dancing. It all kicked off with a medley of the New Kids’ “Single” and Backstreet’s “The One.” Next up the guys went for newer jams like “Summertime,” “The Call,” “Dirty Dancing” and “Bye Bye Love.” The crowd went bananas when each NKOTBSB member came out on his own and kicked it old-school during tracks like “Right Stuff” and “Larger Than Life.” Then it all slowed down when New Kids performed smooth jams like “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)” and fan favorite “Please Don’t Go Girl,” bringing a touch of Motown flavor to the room. Backstreet kept things slow, making girls swoon with “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” and their hidden gem “10,000 Promises.” BSB-er Howie Dorough then played to the room, telling the crowd that some of the most beautiful women in the world are from the Garden State. “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” “Drowning” and “Incomplete” filled out the ballad set from Backstreet. The hits just kept on coming thanks to the New Kids, who got the room excited with a number of songs including “Step by Step” and really old-school jam “Cover Girl.” Joey McIntyre told the crowd that “this is the gift that keeps on giving,” before playing their ode to fans, “Tonight.” Other songs that filled out the set from both groups included “Shape of My Heart,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “I Want It That Way,” “All I Have to Give,” “Quit Playing Games” and “I’ll Be Loving You Forever.” The guys were also joined by Naughty by Nature for the group’s dance-floor classic “O.P.P.” before the show began to come to a close with NKOTBSB’s joint effort “Don’t Turn Out the Lights.” As if that wasn’t enough of a one-two punch of power pop, Backstreet hit the stage again with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” before the New Kids emerged, clad in bedazzled Boston Celtics jerseys, for “Hangin’ Tough.” How’d it all end? Both groups, BSB now in Magic jerseys, combined the two tracks for one final medley. Related Artists NKOTBSB

Gaga’s latest posted the 10th-biggest week in SoundScan history. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage By now, you’re probably aware that Lady Gaga’s Born This Way is the #1 album in the country, selling an impressive 1,108,000 copies in its first week of release. You’re probably also aware that her first-week tally is the highest in more than six years, since 50 Cent’s The Massacre moved more than 1,140,000 copies back in March 2005. But what you might not be aware of is just where Born This Way ‘s big debut ranks among the all-time greats. According to Billboard , since the debut of the SoundScan era in 1991, only 17 albums have sold more than 1 million copies in a week … and Born This Way ‘s bow lands on the very edge of the top 10. Ahead of BTW on the list are a myriad of albums from early-2000s teen-pop sensations, including two released from ‘NSYNC — No Strings Attached, which holds the record for the biggest one-week sales number in SoundScan history (it sold a whopping 2.4 million copies in 2000), and the follow-up, 2001’s Celebrity, which sold 1.89 million in a week — the Backstreet Boys’ Black & Blue and Millennium, and Britney Spears’ Oops! … I Did It Again. Eminem also placed a pair of albums in the all-time top 10 — 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP and 2002’s The Eminem Show — and 50 Cent and the Beatles are represented too. In fact, the top 10 is dominated by male artists: Only Spears (and now Gaga) have made the cut. And of the 17 albums to break the million mark in the SoundScan era, only five are by female artists, including Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard” Soundtrack, Norah Jones’ Feels Like Home and Taylor Swift’s Speak Now also accomplished the feat. So while Born This Way ‘s debut is certainly massive, it’s by no means the most massive … Here’s a look at the list of albums that have sold more than 1 million copies in a week, with sales data courtesy of Nielsen SoundScan. (And yes, Limp Bizkit is on the list.)
