Justin comes to DC about once a year, so when my friends and I…

Justin comes to DC about once a year, so when my friends and I heard he was gonna be here to film the Christmas In Washington Special , we knew we HAD to try and meet him! Two of my friends and I knew which hotel he was staying at, so on December 9th we thought he was landing but he was still in Mexico with Selena, but my friend and I decided to go the hotel anyways. We were just in the lobby trying to blend in when my friend turns bright red and says, “OMG ISN’T THAT ALFREDO?!” I turned the corner to look and it was Alfredo! He was by himself checking into the hotel. When he was walking by us I asked him for a picture and he says yeah, he was so sweet! We told him about the buyout my friends and I were having that weekend and he said he’ll try and make it! The next day, we came back to DC because we knew Justin flew in the night before. My friends and I were waiting outside in the FREEZING cold for about 3-4 hours until we saw all the other celebrities like Victoria Justice, Conan O Brian, The Band Perry, and Jennifer Hudson leave the hotel to go to the Christmas In Washington  rehearsal. After they all left, we knew Justin had to be next come out. Then all of a sudden my friend realizes Justin just drove right by us, he didn’t go through the garage he went through the front. We were all heart broken. We decided to go to a restaurant next to the hotel to eat and get warmed up. At about 3pm we found out that Justin was at the Children’s Hospital visiting kids, so all 10 of my friends and I hopped into a cab and went to the hospital. We decided to wait by the exit and about 3:45 we see this black Escalade pulling out and I saw Alfredo’s head in one of the seats and we immediately knew it was Justin! We run after the car and luckily it was a red light so it had to stop! I was right in front of Alfredo’s window so I was motioning for him to roll the window down AND HE DID! Out of nowhere Justin creepily pops out from the back and starts smiling! We were all talking at once and he was trying to calm us down so he could talk to us and he managed to ask a few questions! I reached my hand into the car to Justin and we were holding hands for a good 10 seconds. Then all of a sudden Justin’s like “The light is green I have to go!”  Then the car speeds off. We were all freaking out and decided to go back to his hotel. At around 5pm we heard that Justin was at American Apparel, luckily that was like a block away from his hotel so we just sprint up there. There was a huge crowd of people near Justin’s car but my friends and I managed to get in the front right in front of his car window again! Justin rolled down his window and I reached out and gave him a note from one of my friends and told him to read it and he smiled! Then Kenny comes out of the store with all of their bags and put it in the trunk and hi 5’s me before he walked in the car. So the car pulls off and its a legit five second drive back to his hotel so my friends and I ran through traffic and almost got hit by like a million cars but we managed to get to the hotel to signal all of my friends he was coming! Justin’s car pulls into the garage and the gate closed. Selena jumped out of the car and walked into the hotel but Justin came towards us! White Kenny (That’s Justin’s white bodyguard idk his real name lol) wanted Justin to go into the hotel but Kenny was like “No let him be with the fans” . Justin walked over to my friend and took a picture with her and then when it was my turn, I realized I didnt have a camera so I grabbed my friends iPhone and gave it to Justin! We took a picture but then I realized it didn’t show up, I thought Justin was gonna walk away but he noticed too. I was like I have no idea how to work an iPhone and he fixed it and retook our picture! After everything we went through that day I couldn’t believe we finally met him! The next day was the DC Buyout and Scooter showed up! He was really sweet and thanked everyone for helping out and took pictures with all of us! So all in all this was a very successful Bieber weekend! – @BieberArmyMD Go here to see the original: Justin comes to DC about once a year, so when my friends and I…

‘X Factor’ Judges’ Home Round Ends

Top 32 contestants vie for spots in the top 16. By Adam Graham Paula Abdul with guest judge Pharrell on the “X Factor” on Sunday Photo: FOX The second half of the final 32 “X Factor” acts performed in front of the judges at their respective homes on Sunday’s episode, vying for spots in the top 16. Those 16 will compete in the show’s live episodes and ultimately battle it out for a $5 million recording contract. The judges were joined by celebrity consultants for this round. Rihanna partnered with L.A. Reid at his home in the Hamptons to evaluate the boys; Pharrell Williams helped Paula Abdul critique the groups in Santa Barbara, California; and Enrique Iglesias assisted Nicole Scherzinger while she evaluated the over-30s at her home in Malibu, California. Over in France, Simon Cowell was joined by a team of industry professionals to assess the girls after his original co-judging choice, Mariah Carey, was detained due to a hurricane. First up for the girls was early favorite Jazzlyn Little, who, despite her imminent stage fright, made a lasting impression early on with her rendition of Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Goin’ Down.” Her nerves seemed to have gotten the better of her again prior to performing, though she pulled through on a stepped-up version of Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic “I Will Survive.” Impressed, Cowell said the 16-year-old “put herself back in the frame,” though vocal coach Savan Kotecha was rougher, dismissing the performance as “a little high school talent show.” Rachel Crow is too young to even enter a high school talent show, yet the 13-year-old sang a resonant version of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” on Cowell’s back patio. Cowell called it “unbelievable” and sent Crow off with a “well done, you,” which had the spiral-haired teenager beaming. Tiah Tolliver, the 20-year-old Washington singer for whom Cowell has fought hard in the competition, put a showy spin on Blackstreet’s “No Diggity,” which seemed to divide Cowell’s aides, though Cowell argued yet again, “I always thought she fits in this show.” But he didn’t have to do any convincing of the merit of 19-year-old Melanie Amaro, whose take on Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” caused Cowell to mock-faint on his patio couch. There was no mock-fainting going on with Rihanna, but she was clearly intrigued by Chris Rene, the garbage collector and recovering addict who performed “Everyday People” for her and L.A. Reid at Reid’s picturesque estate. “He has something very special. I want to know more about him,” Rihanna told Reid, helping confirm Rene’s status as one of the show’s early frontrunners. Ri-Ri was also intrigued by 20-year-old Marcus Canty, who sang K-Ci & JoJo’s “All My Life” directly to her, though she said she was unconvinced of his potential star power. Rihanna was less impressed with Brennin Hunt, the 26-year-old with the soap-star good looks, whom she called “corny” and said he gave off a ” ’90s boy band” vibe following his performance of Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Like a Star.” She liked 30-year-old country singer Tim Cifers, who performed a twangy version of Luther Vandross’ touching “Dance With My Father,” though L.A. Reid was disappointed by him. “I wanted so much more from him,” he said. In the over-30 group, Josh Krajcik — whom producers somewhat hilariously insist on referring to as a “burrito maker” — caused Iglesias and Scherzinger to debate his potential star power. The husky singer “is not your typical star,” Iglesias said, and Scherzinger agreed he’s “a little rough around the edges.” But both seemed pleased with his version of “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face,” and the “burrito maker” seems poised to live another day in the competition. Meanwhile, 42-year-old wedding DJ Tiger Budbill seemed to be making a direct plea to the judges with his version of Solomon Burke’s “Don’t Give Up on Me,” which hit home but also had Scherzinger questioning his marketability. (Didn’t she notice his name is Tiger Budbill ? What more do you need?) Christa Collins, meanwhile, a former child star who claimed to be the prototype for Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, sang an awkward version of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” that left Scherzinger wanting more “pain” and “emotion” from her. And from Scherzinger’s perspective, nerves got the best of 60-year-old LeRoy Bell during his rendition of “Make You Feel My Love,” which could hurt his chances going forward. In the groups category, the standouts were the Stereo Hoggz, the Houston group whom Pharrell praised as mixing Motown soul with Ginuwine swagger, and Intensity, the group of 10 outcast solo artists who were put together as a group by the judges. They performed an exciting mash-up of the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” and Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True.” On Tuesday’s “X Factor,” the top 16 acts will be chosen, leaving the other half to pack their bags and say goodbye. Who do you think should make the top 16? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: ‘X Factor’ Judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid

Watch the Throne Track-By-Track Breakdown

Def Jam VP of A&R Bu Thiam breaks down the tracks on Watch the Throne with MTV News By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Since Kanye West first announced Watch the Throne on Twitter in August 2010, the tag-team LP with Jay-Z had been shrouded in mystery. In the months leading up to the album’s August 8, 2011 release, details remained sketchy. There was no loaded press run, super radio push, music video or album leaks leading up to the drop. In fact, “H.A.M” and “Otis” were the only songs released to the general public; beyond that there was nothing. A few were in the know, like Def Jam VP of A&R Bu Thiam who, was there throughout the recording process and helped Hov and Yeezy achieve their sonic goal. “As an A&R it’s a process of trying to bring out the artist’s creative ideas and their visions,” Thiam told MTV News of his general job function in an exclusive interview. However, when dealing with such accomplished artists like Kanye and Jay, who both have classic works under their belts, Thiam’s role wasn’t that of a traditional A&R rep. “When it comes to big artists like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rihanna, a label can’t just assign you to a project like that,” he said. “You can’t just be like, ‘Yo Kanye we’re gonna have such and such be your A&R.’ He’s gonna be like, ‘Who the f— is that? Hell no.’ So they have to really rock with you off [general principle] and that’s how the whole process goes.” And rock they did. From start to finish, Bu Thiam was there, lending his professional opinions, helping to build tracks and carry them from concept to a fully mixed and mastered product. There aren’t too many people who can break down Watch the Throne Breakdown track-by-track, but then again there aren’t many people in the game like Bu Thiam. Watch the Throne Breakdown “No Church in the Wild” featuring Frank Ocean (Produced by 88 Keys, Kanye West and Mike Dean) “Collectively [working with Frank Ocean] was both of their ideas. It was like, ‘Yo this guy is incredible.’ They were a fan of him prior and it was like, ‘Yo we should fly him to New York to come out here.’ [Frank] went in and he just went to work. That kid is incredible, man. That particular record was one take. It just was like, [sings] ‘What’s a king to a God.’ We were actually in the room like, ‘Yo he f—ing nailed it.’ ” “Lift Off” featuring Beyonc&#233 (Produced by Kanye West, Jeff Bhasker and Mike Dean) ” ‘Lift Off’ was definitely one of the earlier records [recorded for the album]. [Putting the sound effects on the record] is a process because initially a record might just be a beat, a chorus and a hook and as [Kanye] hears things he adds and takes things out.” ” N—as in Paris ” (Produced by Hit-Boy, Kanye West and Mike Dean) “Them guys, everything they rap about is what they actually go through. So when you hear that album it’s real. When Jay says, ‘I ball so hard motherf—ers wanna fine me,’ they gave him a fine because he took a picture with the college players at the NCAA tournament. So he got a fine for that in real life. So when you hear it you think he’s braggin’, but no, it’s really true.” ” Otis ” featuring Otis Redding (Produced by Kanye West) “[Kanye] was late for his flight, we were in the studio working all day and he was late for his flight. As we were leaving he was like, ‘Yo hold on for a second.’ So he drops his bags and goes to the MPC [beat machine] and his assistant is rushing him and he’s just f—-ing with [the beat]. What’s so crazy is the whole time he’s doing that Jay is writing his verses in his head. But Jay is watching the [NBA] playoffs, I think it was the championship; Miami and Dallas. So Jay is watching the playoffs. I’m not even thinking Jay is paying attention to what ‘Ye is doing and by the time he is finished it’s like ‘I invented swag …’ And I’m like, ‘What the f— just happened?’ ” “Gotta Have It” (Produced by The Neptunes and Kanye West) “It’s like a beat battle. ‘Ye might play something and then Pharrell might play something. They go back and forth man and then they come to a point where they come with one beat.” “New Day” (Produced by Kanye West, RZA and Mike Dean) “The energy from that was just a situation when ‘Ye and Jay were talking about — because both of the guys don’t have kids yet. So, it was just a conversation that they were talking about just having kids and how they’re gonna raise their kids because of the success that they’re having now.” “That’s My Bitch” (Produced by Kanye West, Q-Tip and Jeff Bhasker) “The way Jay writes records you have to really go back and listen to ’em. The way he said ‘bitch’ and ‘dog’ and then ‘get ya own’ like how he used the Big Pun [flow]. So you have to really go back and listen to it three or four times to be able to say anything about a Jay-Z record. Really he’s bigging up his wife through the whole verse, but if you’re small minded, you won’t catch that.” “Welcome to the Jungle” featuring Swizz Beatz (Produced by Swizz Beatz) “We were at the Mercer [Hotel in New York] and Pharrell came by, Swizz came by, Rihanna came by it was like a room full of superstars. Swizz came through with [shoe designer] Christian Louboutin — the guy! It was really that guy.” ” Who Gon Stop Me ” (Produced by Sak Pase of the Jugganauts and Kanye West) “Verse Simmonds actually did the chorus for ‘Who Gon Stop Me.’ Initially if you hear the second half of that [finished] beat.” The [entire] song was [originally just] the second half. The dub step factor came later on in the process. I gotta give [Kanye] all credit for that, when he came back from Paris he was like, ‘Yo I added this piece to the beat.’ ” “Murder to Excellence” (Produced by Swizz Beatz and S1) “As much as people may think that Jay talks about money and cars, he’s really not that guy. Of course he has it, but his whole mission is to build. He wants to have others join him, he’s trying to build black excellence, like the black youth as the next [generation of] executives.” “Made in America” featuring Frank Ocean (Produced by Sak Pase of the Jugganauts) “That’s what Frank is about if you listen to his music you can tell that he’s a very smart guy. We were in the studio, Jay wasn’t there, ‘Ye wasn’t there, it was just me and Noah — one of the engineers. [Frank Ocean] was just thinking of different concepts, he was there for like eight hours, then probably like six in the morning he was like ‘Sweet baby Jesus.’ ” “Why I Love You” featuring Mr Hudson (Produced by Mike Dean and Kanye West) “There is only so much you can do for a person. Like Jay said [in the song], ‘I tried to teach n—as to be kings and all they wanted to be was soldiers.’ Like that’s a real line, that’s how he felt. [Kanye and Jay] do get a lot of criticism in their careers and how they move and I think they just wanted to express it.” Related Videos Welcome To Jay-Z And Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ Week Related Photos Jay-Z And Kanye West ‘Watch The Throne’ Listening Related Artists Kanye West Jay-Z

Nicki Minaj Talks About Having A Fan Faint In Her Arms & Jay-Z Being Her Favorite Rapper

See the original post:

Britain’s # 5 Magazine dubbed Nicki Minaj “The Queen Of New York” in their Sport Personality Style issue. Nicki says, when asked if her little brother wants to be a rapper “No, I would never let anyone I know be a rapper, darling.” Nicki admits that a female fan fainted in her arms after waiting in line to see the “Head Barb” for hours. She continues to explain how in-tune she is with her fans through Twitter and how she refused to leave through a back exit one day. “People have been standing there for hours, me going out the back door is mean” Here’s an excerpt from the interview: How can a man get to your heart? If he can make me laugh…..he has to be smart. I love sarcasm in people; I love when you’re able to pick up on sarcasm and when you’re able to dish it out. I love quick comebacks. Your label mate Drake sounds like he fits the bill for that. But that’s why Drake and I are friends because he does fit that to a certain extent. He’s really easy to talk to. As a girl, you don’t meet a lot of guys you can have a conversation with about anything. It’s dope. Who is one of your favorite rappers of all-time? Jay-Z. It was like whatever Jay-Z says is the gossip because he was smart. I was raised attracted to intelligent rappers. Like if you can make me think…that’s why I’m so into metaphors. I love double meanings of things. Just having people look at things in a different way because all my favorite rappers [Lil’ Wayne] that’s what they do, that’s what intrigued me. Thrashers Leaving Atlanta For Canada

Read more from the original source:

It’s official. As expected, the Atlanta Thrashers are packing their bags and moving to Winnipeg, Canada. True North Sports and Entertainment, the Canadian group that has been negotiating to buy the NHL hockey team since mid-May, made the announcement at a news conference today in Winnipeg, reports the AJC.com . The Thrashers began play as an expansion team in 1999 in then-new Philips Arena. The team also had the most diverse lineup in the NHL, but the team also lost millions of dollars every year and struggled to fill seats in Phillips despite having a noticeable contingent of passionate fans. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters that he regretted seeing Atlanta lose its second NHL franchise. The Flames left Atlanta for Calgary in 1980. The agreement must now be approved by the NHL Board of Governors, which is scheduled to meet on June 21. A 75-percent vote is required to ratify a change of ownership and a 50-percent vote is required to approve a franchise relocation. Atlanta Spirit — which owns the Thrashers and Hawks — has been trying to sell the Thrashers for years. The company claims that they tried to keep the team in Atlanta but failed to find a buyer willing to keep the team in Atlanta. Read the full story at the AJC.com . Jay-Z Investigated By NBA For Wildcats Postgame Visit

Minority owner of the New Jersey Nets met winning Kentucky players. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Rob Loud/ Getty Images Photos of Jay-Z taken with the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team after their win over North Carolina in the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament on Sunday have drawn the wary eyes of the NBA. CBSSports.com reports that the NBA will be investigating Jay-Z’s postgame congratulatory visit to the Kentucky Wildcats locker room at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Such visits normally would be considered harmless, but Jay-Z is a minority owner of the New Jersey Nets, and contact between NBA personnel and potential NBA prospects is prohibited. Kentucky has at least two possible lottery picks in Brandon Knight and Terrence Jones, should they declare for the NBA draft. The photos and video began making the Internet rounds the day after the win, showing Jay-Z posing with players in the locker room. During a postgame interview, Kentucky player Darius Miller, who one of the photos is credited to, was asked about his reaction to seeing Jay-Z after the game. “It was crazy. I kind of had to do a double take,” Miller told Louisville’s Courier-Journal. “I didn’t expect that at all. I just had to get a picture with him.” Hova congratulating the Wildcats didn’t break any NCAA rules, however the hip-hop mogul might face a fine from the NBA, considering that Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge was fined $30,000 for sitting next to Kevin Durant’s mother while he was still playing for the University of Texas in 2007. While the New Jersey Nets declined to comment, a spokesperson for the NBA confirmed to MTV News that the league is indeed investigating the matter. A message to Jay-Z’s representatives was not returned by press time. Sound off on this story in the comments below! Related Artists Jay-Z
