‘I am very honored to have been asked to play this role,’ Lohan says of the Lifetime movie ‘Liz and Dick.’ By Kara Warner Lindsay Lohan and Elizabeth Taylor Photo: Getty Images After a few months of will-she-or-won’t-she debate as to whether Lindsay Lohan would actually appear in a made-for-TV biopic about Elizabeth Taylor, we finally have confirmation that she will officially take on the role of the Hollywood icon in the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick.” According to the network’s official announcement obtained by Deadline , the story will revolve around the torrid and headline-grabbing romance between the blue-eyed beauty and Hollywood leading man Richard Burton. The two megastars were the original Brangelina, and their tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day. “I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in the statement. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.” This isn’t the first time Lohan has portrayed a legend. She’s done a few Hollywood pinup-inspired photo, including her Marilyn Monroe-esque photo shoot for Playboy, which garnered record sales when she graced the cover. “We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming for Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.” Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles. We slide down music’s next great slippery slope in Bigger Than The Sound. By James Montgomery Tupac’s hologram at the 2012 Coachella music festival Photo: Getty Images On Sunday, Tupac Shakur thrilled audiences at Coachella , which was rather notable, considering he’s been dead since 1996. Of course, it wasn’t actually Tupac who shared the stage with Dre and Snoop, but rather a hologram, one that cost nearly a half-million dollars to make and probably would’ve blown the collective minds of 100,000 stoned white kids (“BRO, I JUST SAW TUPAC’S GHOST”) had reports of its Coachella premiere not leaked early. And while it wasn’t the first time this level of trickery has been employed live — Madonna used the same technology at the 2005 Grammys when she performed the Gorillaz, as have well-moneyed folks like Celine Dion and the Black Eyed Peas (not surprisingly, a holographic pop star has also been selling out venues in Japan since 2010) — Holo-pac represents something else … something a tad more unsettling. Because, to the best of my knowledge, this was the first time anyone decided it would be a good idea to resurrect a long-dead music icon for the sole purpose of a performance. I’m willing to bet it won’t be the last. Whether or not that’s a good thing is largely up to you. Part s

The eternal also-rans knock off defending champs Green Day in Tuesday’s championship matchup to claim the title. By James Montgomery Tokio Hotel’s Bill Kaulitz Photo: Getty Images Tokio Hotel have finally made it to the mountaintop. The eternal Musical March Madness bridesmaids bested Green Day in Tuesday night’s championship matchup, claiming their first-ever title and putting to rest any questions about their tournament toughness. Now that the title is theirs, check back tomorrow for an exclusive message from Tokio Hotel, thanking their fans for carrying them to victory! After a back-and-forth battle that saw nearly 5 million votes cast, TH pulled away from defending champs Green Day late in the game, then withstood a final rally — Billie Joe Armstrong and co. weren’t about to go down without a fight — to take the championship. In doing so, they brought to close two years of tournament torment ; after all, Tokio Hotel have come tantalizingly close to the championship before, losing a Final Four heartbreaker to Coheed and Cambria in 2010 and getting edged out by Paramore in the Elite 8 last year. But from the tip-off of MMM 2012, they appeared determined to finally win it all, pasting lesser foes like Arcade Fire, Muse and F—ed Up, blasting longtime rivals Coheed and Cambria in the Elite 8 and outlasting #1 Evanescence in the Final Four. And now, much to the delight of their worldwide fanbase, they’re the first international band to wear the March Madness crown. Congratulations to them and all of their loyal Aliens — they took on all challengers and now reign supreme. The MMM trophy is being engraved as you read this, and we’ll even pay to ship it all the way to Germany. To wrap up a truly epic tournament, we’ve put together a traditional “One Shining Moment” montage, one that captures all the highs and lows of a wild three weeks. We had upsets, blowouts and more than a few accusations of cheating, but that’s what makes this tourney so great. Check out the results from this year’s tournament in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! Thanks to all the bands that made this year’s Musical March Madness such a rousing ride — from returning favorites like Green Day, My Chemical Romance and 30 Seconds to Mars to newcomers Evanescence, Mumford & Sons and F—ed Up — and a huge round of applause to all of you who voted. You shattered records and amazed us with your dedication. Enjoy the title, Tokio Hotel: It’s much deserved. And get ready, because the 2013 Musical March Madness tournament tips off in less than 12 months, and we’re all waiting to see if you’ll be the first band to repeat as champs. ‘They’re gonna snap Bon Iver’s neck, they would crush Metallica,’ Kyle Newacheck says of Sum. Voting in round two is already under way! By James Montgomery The Workaholics Photo: MTV News MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament has moved on to the second round, leaving plenty of heavily favored bands by the wayside, in a smoking pile, dreams shattered ( MMM is nothing if not dramatic ). And so, with voting in all round-two matchups currently under way — polls close Sunday at midnight ET — we figured now was a perfect time to gauge the temperature of the tourney with the guys from Comedy Central’s “Workaholics.” After all, they know a thing or two about smoking (we can’t vouch for their dreams, however). Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! We caught up with stars Adam Devine , Blake Anderson, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck at their rather epic South by Southwest party, and perhaps it was due to the free-flowing beverages — or the cornholing — but, boy, were their predictions off base. In fact, of all the bands they picked, only three still remain in MMM. So while their dreams may not be shattered, their brackets definitely are. But still, you’ve got to give them credit for their enthusiasm … and their ability to throw a killer party. So here’s who the “Workaholics” have winning it all in Musical March Madness. “Maroon 5 for the win. Adam Levine, I’m going to fight you over our name. I’m Adam Devine, I get so many tweets every day like, ‘I love you on “The Voice,” ‘ ” Devine said. “Truthfully, [I’m going] Black Keys versus Jack White in the finals, Black Keys take the win. Sorry, Jack, go tanning or something, you’re freaking us all out.” “I’m going Bruce Springsteen versus Best Coast [in the finals], and Bruce just barely nudges her out,” Anderson added. “That’d be a great show. I’d see that show.” OK, so just in case you haven’t been paying attention, Maroon 5, the Black Keys and Bruce all lost in the first round. Best Coast are still kicking, of course, but right now, they’re locked in a tight battle with “American Idol” fave James Durbin, who shocked the world by knocking off #1 seed the Foo Fighters in round one. So, Bethany, it’s time to rally the troops — a spot in the Sweet 16 is at stake. And while Devine and Anderson may have swung and missed in their picks, the same can’t be said about Newachek, who’s repping hard for dark-horse candidates Sum 41, who rolled all the way to the Elite Eight last year, and appear poised for another deep run this year. Having already taken down #2 Bon Iver, they currently lead #7 Metallica by a slight margin. “I’m going Sum 41 all the way. They’re gonna snap Bon Iver’s neck, they would crush Metallica,” Newachek said. “Sum 41, keep it rocking.” “I used to look like that kid, the bass player,” Holm added. “You know [as a] thinner young man.” MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness tournament has reached the second round. Voting runs until midnight ET on Sunday, March 25, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act is still alive, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it only gets more difficult from here on out. 30 Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park also headline the loaded South, but only one will win. Vote in all first-round matchups now! By James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: Getty Images We’re entering the homestretch of first-round voting in the 2012 MTV Musical March Madness tournament — polls close on Sunday at midnight ET — but there’s still time to help guide your favorite band to victory … or at least to round two. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! Because as history has shown us time and time again, there are no guarantees when it comes to MMM, as heavily favored bands fall by the wayside and unheralded underdogs make deep tourney runs. Of course, it’s all up to you — you can spread the word by downloading one of our custom MMM badges , or by using the hashtag #MMM on Twitter — but to help with any last-minute decisions, we’ve spent all week breaking down each of the March Madness regions. We started with the mighty Midwest and moved on to the wild West and the erudite East . Today, we’ll close with the down-and-dirty South, which has produced both the 2010 champion, Coheed and Cambria, and the 2011 runner-up, Paramore. And this year, well, it looks like that tradition could continue. Because the 2012 South region once again features not only Paramore but Evanescence (who might very well be the team to beat) and MMM powerhouses like 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park too. One of those four bands is going to advance to the Final Four … and stands a pretty good chance at winning it all. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Here’s a look at all the first-round matchups in a very loaded South. #1 Evanescence vs. #16 Alabama Shakes : Pity the ‘Bama Shakes, who were playing near home but drew the all-powerful Evanescence in round one. Not surprisingly, this one was over early, and given EV’s 17,000-vote cushion, we’re thinking they’ll advance to round two. In fact, they might not be challenged until the Sweet 16, with a potential matchup against Linkin Park looming. #2 Paramore vs. #15 Gotye : Sure, Gotye spent the weeks leading up to MMM practicing his pick-and-roll , but when the tourney began, he got appropriately rolled by Paramore, who clearly have bigger things on their minds. Much like Evanescence, they won’t face a tough opponent until the Sweet 16, where they’ll probably meet 30 Seconds to Mars. #3 Kings of Leon vs. #14 Phoenix : Will this be the year the Kings make a deep run in the tourney? Um, probably not. For the second time in three years, they appear headed for a first-round exit, this time at the hands of Phoenix, who hold a pretty hefty lead. Surprisingly, this would be the third-straight year they make it to round two … the trick now seems to be figuring out how to advance from there. #4 Jack White vs. #13 Shinedown : White goes it alone in MMM 2012, and so far, he’s finding it tough to shoulder the load. He owns a slim lead over upset-minded Shinedown, who look to continue the recent trend of heavy bands going deep in the tournament. Though they’re trailing, we like Shinedown’s spirit, and we’re picking them to knock off White and advance. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! #5 Linkin Park vs. #12 At the Drive-In : Last year, LP made it all the way to the Sweet 16 before getting bounced by Paramore. This year, we’re pretty confident they’ll make it past ATDI in round one (they’re up by some 12,000 votes), but the selection committee certainly didn’t do them any favors after that: They’ll have to get past Evanescence if they want to finally taste the Elite 8. #6 30 Seconds to Mars vs. #11 Sleigh Bells : Obviously, the selection committee has it out for the poor Sleigh Bells, who drew Linkin Park in the opening round last year and got 30 STM this year. As you’d probably expect, Jared Leto and company hold a sizable lead here and are locks to move on. Again though, Paramore await in the Sweet 16. #7 Cage the Elephant vs. #10 Ke$ha : A surprisingly competitive 7/10 battle unfolding here, as Cage crept to the early advantage, then watched as Ke$ha — and her Kegels — roared all the way back to take the lead. This one’s still too close to call, though perhaps this is finally the year Ke$ha advances to round two. #8 My Morning Jacket vs. #9 Dave Matthews Band : This potential Birkenstock-burner has basically been a snoozer (our lowest-voted opening-round matchup), which may have something to do with MMJ and DMB fans being too, uh, sleepy to vote. It’s the DMB by a bong rip so far, though given that the winner of this contest gets Evanescence next, well, does it really matter who wins? MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness Tournament is under way! Voting in the first round runs until midnight ET on Sunday, March 18, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. Bigger Than the Sound takes a look back at 21 ‘s rather remarkable ride on the one-year anniversary of its release in the U.S. By James Montgomery Adele in her “Someone Like You” video Photo: Columbia Back in olde tymes, if something was a hallmark of consistency and dependability, it was proclaimed to be “so reliable you could set your watch to it.” This was high praise, and not just because watches were, like, the iPhones of their day (minus “Angry Birds,” of course). No, there was a time when reliability was actually celebrated in this country, and everything unerring, unchanging or uninterrupted — from Studebakers to Johnny Unitas’ haircut — was thusly awarded watch-setting status. Not surprisingly, that’s not exactly how things work anymore. Although, one could make the argument that Adele is doing her best to bring reliability off the back burner (back burners were also fairly common back then, both as a heating source and a simmering surface). Exactly one year ago today , she released her blockbuster 21 album in the U.S., and in the 52 weeks since , it’s not only broken records, won an armload of Grammys and singlehandedly revitalized the record industry, it’s also become the most dependable thing since Johnny U’s flattop. To wit, 21 has spent a staggering 40 percent of the past year atop the Billboard albums chart, has never been lower than #7, and has held steady in the top three since December. It not only survived challenges from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Beyonc
It’s officially a wrap: Heidi Klum is ”moving forward” with her divorce from Seal. The German supermodel – who parted ways from the ‘Kiss From A Rose’ singer last month after almost seven years of marriage – reportedly thinks it’s ”best to be away” from her estranged husband as the former couple come to terms with their marital split. An insider explained: ”They have had very little contact and Heidi wants to keep it this way. She feels less stressed out now and feels it’s best to be away from Seal, so she doesn’t get confused about her feelings. ”She is moving forward with the divorce.” While the couple – who raise four children, Leni, seven, Henry, six, Johan, five, and two-year-old Lou, together – were previously both wearing their wedding rings, it is thought they have given up hope that they might be able to ”work it out” and both Seal and Heidi have been spotted without their bands. The source added to People.com: ”They had both been wearing their wedding rings and had mutually thought they might be able to work it out. But it doesn’t look like it’s going that way.” Following the split, Seal admitted he was keen to continue to wear his wedding ring as a ”token” of how he feels about Heidi and he had ”no intention” of removing the band anytime soon. He recently said: ”I think it’s just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years. Eight wonderful years together. Just because we have decided to separate doesn’t necessarily mean you take off your ring and you’re no longer connected to that person. ”Will we wear the ring for the rest of our lives? Who knows? But right now it feels really comfortable on my hand so I have intentions of taking it off anytime soon.” Source WENN
When did I become uncool? In college, I checked out all the bands — famous and not, big and small. Fell for my husband that way, in fact. And we saw Janis and the Doors and Jefferson Airplane and Vanilla Fudge and the Supremes and Aretha and the Who and Jimi and the Stones. Everybody, really, except the Beatles. And even after we left N.Y.C. and moved to Connecticut, I had those stories and others… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Ruth’s Report Discovery Date : 08/02/2012 11:15 Number of articles : 2
