Ryan Leslie Says ‘You Be Killin’ ‘Em 2’ Is An ‘Event’

R. Les tells MTV News ‘supergroup’ partners Fabolous, Ne-Yo bless remix, ‘Look at Her,’ with peek at what’s to come. By Rebecca Thomas Ryan Leslie Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — For any girl who takes her style seriously — like, blow the rent on a striped concoction from Prada’s spring/summer 2011 collection serious — 2010 was a good year for primpin’-ain’t-easy rap. Big, tag-flaunting singles like Drake’s “Fancy” and Rick Ross’ “Super High” expressed shock, awe and appreciation for girls and their fashion. And, for coining the word “shoe-icide” alone, the Ryan Leslie-produced Fabolous single “You Be Killin’ ‘Em” earned monster status on that playlist. Now, Leslie is aiming to follow up the radio smash with another heater. We ventured downtown last week and caught up with R.Les just before he headed out for his Coachella festival debut. He gave us a preview of Les Is More, his first post-Universal, indie release due July 4, teased his much-discussed supergroup and let us in on “You Be Killin’ ‘Em” — the sequel. “We just did a ‘You Be Killin’ ‘Em,’ part 2 called

‘Hunger Games’ Eyeing Elizabeth Banks For Effie Trinket

The ’30 Rock’ actress reportedly is in talks to play the escort who helps Katniss and Peeta on their dangerous journey. By Eric Ditzian Elizabeth Banks Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The “Hunger Games” gang is multiplying every day, so it seems. Following the news that Hollywood newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg have been cast as District 11 tributes Thresh and Rue , Variety brings word that a more familiar face is close to joining the production. Elizabeth Banks is in talks to star as Effie Trinket in the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling young-adult novel, the trade magazine reports. A pink-haired escort to District 12’s Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, Effie accompanies the kids on their fight-to-the-death journey. A rep for Lionsgate declined to confirm the report, but said the studio hoped to have official news soon. A representative for Banks could not be reached as of press time. The 37-year-old Banks last appeared onscreen opposite Russell Crowe in the blink-and-you-missed-it thriller “The Next Three Days,” and has a recurring role on NBC’s “30 Rock.” She’ll next be seen alongside Paul Rudd in the comedy “Our Idiot Brother.” While we await official word of the Banks casting, we already know that much of the cast is in place. Katniss and Peeta have already been nailed down, with Jennifer Lawrence stepping in to play lead female Katniss and Josh Hutcherson portraying her Hunger Games partner, respectively. Liam Hemsworth is set to become Gale Hawthorne, Peeta’s best friend. Directed by Gary Ross and scripted by Billy Ray, “The Hunger Games,” the first movie in a planned trilogy based on Collins’ books, is expected to shift into production later this year. The film is slated to be released on March 23, 2012. Those who give up essential liberties for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. — Benjamin Franklin The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home. – James Madison The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders…tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. – Herman Goering I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually. – James Baldwin Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities has the power to make you commit injustices. – Voltaire The cry has been that when war is declared, all opposition should be hushed. A sentiment more unworthy of a free country could hardly be propagated. – William Ellery Channing “if there be one principle more deeply written than any other in the mind of every American, it is that we should have nothing to do with conquest.” — Thomas Jefferson Criticism in a time of war is essential to the maintenance of any kind of democratic government. – Sen. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage In less than 24 hours, Lloyd Banks is going to spill the beans. The Southside, Queens, native is the next guest on “Rap Fix Live” , and he’ll reveal to our own Sway what company he and 50 Cent have decided will distribute his next album, The Hunger For More 2. The live stream airs Friday at 1 p.m. ET on MTV.com. A couple of weeks back, we spoke to Banks on the New Jersey set of his video for “Any Girl” , where he said he was in no rush to sign a contract. “I’m patient. I know the right situation is definitely gonna [present] itself,” he explained. ‘When that happens, it’s gonna be on and running. 50 is 100 percent behind me, behind my project. Whatever I say I wanna do, he’s gonna push that button. That’s all you need is somebody to be in your corner like that.” “Any Girl” is the next single from Banks’ HFM2, and the video has been selected for a turn as MTV Jams’ highly coveted Jam of the Week; it enters the rotation on Sunday. “I’m running through my day-to-day going to see a few of my girls,” Banks explained of the concept when we visited the video set. I got a white girl, I got [a] Spanish girl, a black girl, and I’m going to basically lie to them and tell them how much I love them and how much I want to see them,” he said. “He flew into New York [and] knocked out the record in like 15, 20 minutes,” Banks said about the song’s guest star, R&B singer Lloyd. “His work ethic is incredible. He was actually independent at the time so … it was no restraints. It was like, ‘Let’s go!’ ” Catch Lloyd Banks on “RapFix Live” on Friday at 1 p.m. ET!
