Saturday night honored the best in non-prime time TV as the Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. “Daytime” is classified as 2 a.m. until 6 p.m., so there was a lot of ground to cover for Anderson Cooper and Oscar the Grouch, who served as co-hosts. Despite two soap operas biting the dust this year ( All My Children and One Life to Live ), the annual award gala was a positive one across the board. Notably, despite a ratings dip and rumors of Ann Curry’s firing , NBC’s Today Show nabbed the award for Outstanding Morning Show program just the same. It’s the third for Today , breaking a tie with Good Morning America. Game on. Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa won for best talk show hosts, Jeopardy won best game show for the 29th time (yes, 29th) and so much more. Summer movie season is here, and once again talk turns to Olivia Wilde . Olivia’s career started skinfully enough with her topless scene in Alpha Dog (2006), but (as you may recall) last summer she faked us out (twice!) with CGI flames covering her seat meat in Cowboys & Aliens (2011) and full-on faux CGI nudes in The Change-Up (2011). We haven’t heard much from Olivia since these crimes against BOOBmanity, but now it appears she’s attempting to make amends with a nude role in the indie art flick Deadfall (2012) . Olivia plays Liza, a thief and con woman on the run from the law with her brother Addison ( Eric Bana ), and according to early reviews she bares her moneymakers…for real this time. They don’t have the budget for CGI nudity in this flick: “Liza (Wilde)…in short order is showing her breasts because this is an “arty” movie and not “TRON Legacy, ” critic Drew Taylor writes in his review for Indiewire . Jerry Cavallaro of We Are Movie Geeks is less cynical in his review, saying her ” loved the hell out of ” the movie and that “the film has plenty of other great things going for it like some wonderful visuals, thrilling action set pieces, the beautiful Kate Mara, and unnecessary Olivia Wilde nudity.” We only have one small correction: when it’s Olivia Wilde we’re talking about, all nudity is completely necessary. Colbie Caillat, best known for her hit single “Bubbly,” was performing that very song in Pittsburgh this week when she asked the crowd to join in. They obliged. A crowd of insects took a strong interest in her, as well. Around the halfway point (2:00 below), bugs swarmed Caillat to the point where they interrupted the song, forcing the beautiful singer to run for cover. Gamely, she returned and had the crowd help her finish the tune: Colbie Caillat – Bubbly (Live, With Bug Attack) “My goodness. I am traumatized from the bazillion bugs that were literally raining on me from the sky while singing on stage,” she wrote afterward. To err is human, to forgive DIVINE!!! Martin Short gets major kudos for not being upset about Kathie Lee Gifford dragging him down a likely painful memory lane this week. Martin Short isn’t one to hold a grudge. The actor, 62, says he understands that Today show host Kathie Lee Gifford didn’t intend to offend during his Wednesday appearance on the show with her questions about his wife, Nancy Dolman–who passed away in 2010 from ovarian cancer. “You and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business,” Gifford said. “How many years for you guys now?” “We . . . married 36 years,” Short replied. “But you’re still in love!” the host exclaimed. “Madly in love,” he answered. “Madly in love.” During a commercial break, Gifford learned of her cringe-worthy gaffe and apologized on-air. “Martin just told me as he was leaving, he said, ‘Kathie, you probably didn’t know,’ but his beautiful, precious wife Nancy did pass away a year and a half ago . . . I feel so badly,” the remorseful Gifford told viewers. On Thursday, Short spoke to E! News about the awkward exchange–and made it clear he doesn’t hold it against Gifford. “I think that it’s live television and people make mistakes and there’s no ill will intended,” the Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted star shared. “And I think it’s nice to aspire to be that way.” At least he’s understanding about it.
