‘Twilight’ Spoiler Talk: 9 Things ‘Breaking Dawn’ Gets Right

With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part II finally in theaters, it’s time to get to spoiler-talkin’ — did Bill Condon & Co. blow minds with the Big Crazy Twist in their big-screen adaptation? How much sexy time do newborn vampires have? Is imprinting totally not creepy when the power of Taylor Lautner ’s abs is compelling you? Spoilers, obviously! Five films and a few billion dollars into Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight franchise, the Breaking Dawn crew have put together arguably the best film in the series. Whether you’re a Twi-hard or staunchly unconverted to the sparkly cause, sound off below on all the over-the-top vampire theatrics of the franchise finale, starting with these nine key moments, scenes, and changes from the book: The Battle Sequence Let’s shove the elephant in the room out of the way first: How about that battle scene? The X-Men -style mutant power stand-off that closes Meyer’s novel series was always going to be the film’s biggest technical challenge, with invisible vampire powers surging across the battlefield left and right. Harder still, in the books the battle was anti-climactic, a non-starter that never actually takes place on the page. I repeat: Nobody dies. No heads roll. Literally nothing happens. Enter screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and Meyer’s big cinematic fix. We now see what Alice sees, the future possibility of a Cullen-Volturi massacre that ends with Aro’s death, not to mention the certain doom of many beloved Twilight characters. The fake-out ending allows for the best action of the franchise, not to mention a key element seldom seen throughout the faithful films to date — surprise. Bella’s Fierceness Critics, feminists, and non-fans of the books have long complained about Bella’s passivity, with good reason; for the majority of the series she’s fragile, self-doubting, and almost always in need of protection by the men in her life. Where Breaking Dawn is most satisfying, then, is in Bella’s emotional and physical transformation. She’s strong. She can arm-wrestle and eat mountain lions. She has a temper. She has an appetite for blood, and for sex. After four years of watching Bella mope around Forks, she finally grows a pair — and while that is a reversal of the average-girl fantasy that made Twilight popular to begin with, and despite the fact that her superpower is a maternal and protective “shielding” talent instead of something more, y’know, awesome, it’s so much better to see Bella Swan strong than not. Jacob’s Abs They’re real, and they’re fabulous. They’re also, hilariously enough, integral to the scene at hand: Jacob strips down in front of Charlie to morph into wolfy form in order to keep the Cullens from leaving town. The exchange between Taylor Lautner and Billy Burke also injects a much-needed dose of levity to the franchise, which brings me to… The Humor Finally, the Twilight franchise has a sense of humor. That sidelong glance between Edward and Jacob before Bella learns her bestie has eyes for her new baby; the way newborn Bella hungrily grabs her man, ready to do it for forever now that she no longer has to worry about getting pregnant and being crushed to death/being eaten in the heat of the moment. And while we’re on the subject…

Kristen Stewart Begins The Long Good Bye To Twilight In Japan

Kristen Stewart gave her first farewell comments to Twilight and her character Bella in Tokyo ahead of the super-popular franchise’s final installment, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 , which opens in November. She said parting with Twilight is hard, but Bella, Robert Pattinson ‘s Edward and Taylor Lautner ‘s Jacob have been able to get “everything.” “I’m definitely not excited for it to be over,” Stewart said at a recent press conference in Japan as quoted by Access Hollywood. “But, now that the whole story is told and everything is done and we don’t have those big moments weighing on us [and now] that Bella can finally have everything that she wants, I can’t wait for everyone to feel that as well.” Stewart said the love triangle between Bella, Robert Pattinson’s Edward and Lautner’s Jacob carried the story in the earlier installments of Twilight carried the story, but her marriage and subsequent conversion to vampirism ushered in a new relationship. “The whole love triangle thing — she needs Jacob in her life, he needs her in the same way, it’s not like [an] unbalanced thing,” noted Stewart. “I think that they really offer each other so much and if you can get past conventions and what everyone else is thinking, and have what you want, then you’re gonna be a much happier person…. They really do get to a point where they get to have everything and it’s nice.” Down in Australia promoting the film, Pattinson said recently that Stewart’s entree as a vampire had been quite an experience for the actress, and unlike others who had been playing parts of the undead in other installments. “Yeah, she was really excited about being a vampire. Everybody else who’d been pretty consistently in the movies, they’d obviously been playing a vampire like every day for ages. And so it’s funny seeing someone suddenly come into it and try and figure out their own version of the physicality and the mentality of it. But her character has a different thing, because she’s supposed to find it really easy. It’s supposed to be a natural progression for her to become a vampire, it’s supposed to be simple. So I guess it was kind of different.” “I think it represents a stage of life that is so full and it’s so full of feeling and I think that it really attracts people that have faith in those feelings and it doesn’t discredit them,” added Stewart. “I think it’s fairly rare to have a story that really gives a lot of credit to young girls that haven’t figured it all out yet, but are incredibly trusting of themselves. I think that a really good, hard-hitting, fundamentally charged love story is always gonna — I don’t know – it’s always going to fuel something inside of us.” The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opens November 16th. WATCH: Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Final Trailer Saves The Crazy Stuff For Last

With one last action-packed trailer, Summit continues its final marketing push to bring the $2 billion Twilight Saga down the home stretch. What’s nice about this full two-minute trailer is it actually builds tension, at least, moreso than the abridged looks we’ve had this week . And while it lays down more of a foundation for the final epic throwdown between good vampires and not-so-good vampires that wraps up the series, we also get the tiniest explanation of the “immortal child” hullabaloo at the center of Breaking Dawn . The full trailer offers a bit more explanation for the uninitiated as to why evil Italian vampire Michael Sheen and his army of cloaked bloodsuckers are coming to Washington State to tangle with Bella Swan ( Kristen Stewart ), Edward Cullen ( Robert Pattinson ), and their extended brood namely, Renesmee. The Volturi have been waiting for a reason to punish these peaceful romance-loving Cullen vamps, and when stupid Irina (Maggie Grace, I cannot wait for you to not be annoying in a movie) tattles some misinformation they are convinced Bella and Edward have done the unthinkable: “Turned” a child. Also saved for the final marketing push is an emphasis on the special vampire powers that gave Stephenie Meyer’s Saga-ender such a left-field X-Men: The Last Stand -type feel, although the book differed drastically from the heated brawling we see here, so there’s at least one mystery left to uncover . Better to reel in fans with the homestead drama and Bella’s karate kicking skills and leave the really out-there stuff for audiences to discover in the theater (*cough imprinting cough*). ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ Trailer: Our Wish List

Let’s kill some time before Wednesday’s sneak peek by thinking up our dream trailer, in ‘Twilight’ Tuesday. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Is it Wednesday yet? We are anxiously awaiting the debut of yet another expectedly epic teaser trailer for “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” and although there was a brief moment of reprieve when we got a sneak peek at 13 seconds of the teaser on Tuesday (June 19), we’re now in full-on obsessive analytical mode, which means it’s time to think about the five things we’re hoping to see in this new trailer: Renesmee, Renesmee, Renesmee As much as we’d like to ooh and ahh over how cute Edward and Bella’s progeny is as a baby, now that we’ve seen a photo of Mackenzie Foy as Renesmee , we’re thirsty for scenes of the young lass in action. Baby? What baby? As we all know, her existence is a continued threat to the Volturi, so we’re hoping to see some of that intensity play out. New Vampires! It seems like I write about this every week, but I’m still dying to see more of those new additions to the cast , i.e. all the other vampires from the non-Cullen clan. Where and why are you hiding Garrett, Carmen, Irina, etc.? Vampire Bella’s Mind Tricks We very likely won’t be seeing Bella’s secret superpower until the end of the movie, but how about showing us a little sample of what she can do with her soon-to-be-superstrong mental force field? I’ll settle for a quick glimpse of her arm-wrestling battle royale with Emmett, but it would be great to see how Bill Condon and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg adapted Stephenie Meyer’s description of Bella’s mind tricks. The Next Great “Twilight” Song Biased as I am, it’s going to be hard for anyone to top the Edward/Bella love song from “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” “Turning Page” by Sleeping at Last , but in knowing the caliber of the “Twilight” soundtracks, I’m betting it will include several potential new favorite songs. So why not give us a little listen in this new trailer? Jacob Not Being Creepy With Renesmee I am all about my love for Jacob, but the whole imprinting on Renesmee thing still creeps me out. I know, I know, he only feels and thinks about his total devotion to the young lady, but I just can’t get past the oddness of it all. Something that would help me get over that is if I could see how Taylor Lautner’s Jacob interacts with Foy as Renesmee. What do you want to see in the trailer? Breaking Dawn Part 2 Trailer: Beware of Bella!

After 18 years of being utterly ordinary, I finally found that I can shine. So states Kristen Stewart, as Bella Swan, to open the first official trailer for Breaking Dawn: Part 2 , which hit the Internet this morning and which, we must say, is pretty darn awesome! It centers on Bella’s transformation and features the reaction of both Jacob and Edward to their now-immortal acquaintance. We see Bella with red eyes and pale skin, caressing Edward one moment and then stalking a deer in the woods the next moment. Check it out now and then sound off: Can the final installment of The Twilight Saga outearn the record-breaking numbers established this weekend by The Hunger Games ?
