T he National Trust for Historic Preservation has been at the forefront of trying to protect landmarks across the country that are embedded in the fabric of Black history and are integral parts of American history as a whole. In observance of Black History Month, the nonprofit organization has launched a powerful campaign with the help of actors to spread awareness about the influence and importance of Black landmarks. The campaign—dubbed #TellTheFullHistory—features actors Phylicia Rashad , Tia Mowry-Hardrict , Aldis Hodge , and Marcus Scribner . In a video created for the campaign, each celebrity shares a personal story about an impactful experience that they’ve had or a personal connection to a historic landmark in an effort to illustrate how these places shaped our country. Hodge talks about the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The hotel was later transformed into the National Civil Rights Museum. Rashad highlights the Brainerd Institute which was a South Carolina-based educational institution for freed Africans during the Reconstruction era. Mowry-Hardrict talks about her grandmother’s journey to America and Scribner discusses the influence of the West Angeles Church in California. “This month and every month, we at the National Trust for Historic Preservation seek to tell the full history. By saving African American places, we not only celebrate the tremendous impact that African Americans have made to the life of our nation, we transmit that impact to the present and into the future,” said Brent Leggs , Executive Director, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. “Having the voices of Phylicia Rashad, Tia Mowry-Hardrict and others join with us to advocate for preserving sites of Black history is powerful and a privilege. We all have places that tell our story and we hope by weaving together our narratives we can tell a fuller, truer, American story. We challenge you to tell us about a place that to matters to you.” The organization created a year-long campaign to preserve several places and has distributed $1.1 million in grants to different historic sites. Amongst the sites that received funding from the organization was Madam C.J. Walker ’s estate and the home where songstress Nina Simone grew up. Gucci learned the hard way after folks were up in arms about the luxury brand’s new sweater design that resembles Blackface. After folks like T.I. and Dapper Dan spoke out against the brand , Gucci has finally addressed the controversial moments and proposed ways that they plan to do better in the future. On Friday, president and CEO of Gucce, Marco Bizzarri, said in a statement: “Following the recent unintentional balaclava jumper incident, Gucci announces the first four initiatives in a long-term plan of actions designed to further embed cultural diversity and awareness in the company. “We accept full accountability for this incident, which has exposed shortfalls in our ongoing strategic approach to embedding diversity and inclusion in both our organization and in our activities. The promoter filed a police report and paperwork to get a felony warrant for theft by deception in October of 2016. After the warrant was issued it just sat there for more than 2 years and no legal action was taken until now. Oscar nominee Regina King learned that first hand Wednesday night when she attended the Philadelphia Sixers vs New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. King was enjoying the game during the 3rd quarter, when 76ers star Joel Embiid chased down a pass and leaped straight over King’s head. He narrowly missed her, but did land on the statistician behind her, who was reportedly unharmed. The tape was reportedly handed over to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago last weekend by the whistleblower and is now under review. Avenatti to CNN that, “My client knows the identity of the girl and R. Kelly. He identified the two of them on the videotape. He worked for and has known R. Kelly for decades and he met the girl on a number of occasions,” Avenatti also tweeted this statement and documentation from his personal Twitter account: In response to press inquiries, attached is a stmt regarding our work on the R. Kelly matter since April, including the discovery of new critical video evidence establishing his guilt. Kelly From Every Episode of Lifetime’s ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ So what’s on this alleged tape? From what CNN is saying it is almost a complete mimic of the original sex tape that got R. Kelly in legal trouble back in February of 2002. The new tape is 42 minutes and 45 seconds and clearly shows a man that appears to be R. Kelly in two different “scenes” with what appears to be an underage girl. The young girl refers to her genitalia six times in the video as, “”14-year-old p***y.” The man in the video also can be heard saying the same thing. At one point the young girl can be heard calling him daddy and he asks her to urinate. She does and he urinates on her. CNN also reports that the video depicts a man who appears to be R. Kelly performing multiple sex acts with the girl. If you remember in the last case R. Kelly was adamant that it wasn’t him in the video. But there could be a clue in this video that may refute if he tries to deny it this time. The man in the video has a mole on the back of his neck. No word on if R. Kelly himself has a matching mole.
