Mother Shoots Carjacker When He Tried To Drive Off With Her Children

Read more from the original source:

Source: Brian Stablyk / Getty A Texas mother recently proved that she would do anything to protect her kids, even shoot someone if needed. According to FOX 4 News , on Wednesday Michelle Booker-Hicks went to get gas at a Dallas station when she saw a man get into her car with her 2-year-old and 4-year-old sons. She ran back to her car, hopped in and grabbed her gun out of the glove department as the driver sped down the street. Booker-Hicks then shot the carjacker right under his eye. “I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me,” she told FOX 4. “I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment.” After being shot, the carjacker crashed the car into a fence. Thankfully, Booker-Hicks and her children weren’t hurt. The man, later identified as Ricky Wright, was arrested and taken to the hospital. Booker-Hicks stressed that all she cared about in that moment was her children. “I’m not a killer or anything, but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” she said. “I hope that woke him up.” An attorney not involved with her case told FOX 4 he doesn’t think the mother will face any charges for her actions. When children are involved, obviously the authorities are going to be very understanding of that,” Toby Shook said. “The law says that if a reasonable person in her situation would have acted the same way, found it immediately necessary to protect herself or a third party, in this case her children, then that’s legitimate self-defense.” However, Booker-Hicks doesn’t have a  license to carry, but the state of Texas has laws that allow those to carry guns inside their car even without a license. 5 Powerful Moments From 2018 ESSENCE Fest In New Orleans

Read this article:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty I f social media’s reaction was any indication, the annual ESSENCE Festival was an overwhelming success this past weekend. The #EssenceFest  hashtag was trending for the past three days with tweets, Instagram and Facebook posts replete with status updates and photos of Black splendor live and direct from New Orleans. But amid the revelry were a handful of serious moments that spoke directly to the past, present and future of Black people in America. 1. Al Sharpton Rev. Al Sharpton ’s keynote address at ESSENCE Fest implored attendees to realize the dire consequences of both America’s immigration policies, the president choosing a new Supreme Court justice as the importance of voting. There should never be a question of NOT voting! You need to vote and get everyone around you to VOTE TOO! #EssenceFest2018 pic.twitter.com/cRhKArHenh — Reverend Al Sharpton (@TheRevAl) July 7, 2018 “People suffered to give us the right to vote,” Sharpton reminded the audience on Saturday. “And some of you are sitting there, no voting.” Immigration reform remains to be at the forefront of our fight for justice and equality. Let’s not be fooled, this administration is messing with a certain kind of people only. Wake up! Stand up! Vote for change! #essencefest2018 pic.twitter.com/ebMuUPaLf2 — Reverend Al Sharpton (@TheRevAl) July 7, 2018 2. The new Trayvon Martin documentary The parents of Trayvon Martin discussed the value of Black lives in America following a screening of an upcoming documentary about their son, “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.” We as a community are actively resisting #EssenceFest @OsopePatrisse @SybrinaFulton pic.twitter.com/TOho5v1rTl — ESSENCE (@Essence) July 7, 2018 “There’s not a blueprint on how to deal with adversity,” Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father, said, according to Bossip . “This film should be an educational film on how we can rectify the problem of justice in our community.” The strength that @SybrinaFulton exhibits is beyond words. #EssenceFest pic.twitter.com/N5dlSpE60L — Wendy J. Roundtree (@WendyJarel) July 7, 2018 3. Maxine Waters Political commentator Angela Rye made sure ESSENCE Fest attendees knew how important California Congresswoman Maxine Waters was, is and will continue to be for Black America, no matter how hard the president works to discredit her achievements. “WE stand with MAXINE!” @angela_rye honoring @MaxineWaters during #EssenceFest Day 2! pic.twitter.com/fuBKHHHnPu — ESSENCE Festival (@essencefest) July 8, 2018 Waters responded in kind by offering some words of wisdom for how to keep moving forward as the powers that be try to make us take steps backward. Prison reform discussion Rappers Meek Mill and Remy Ma had an intimate talk with NBC News’ Lester Holt about prison reform, one of the most important existential issues facing Black people. 5 Powerful Moments From 2018 ESSENCE Fest In New Orleans

Kylie Jenner: Stormi RUINED My Body!

OK, so it’s been five months now since Kylie Jenner gave birth to her daughter, Stormi. She’s been a mother for five months, and it’s still just too wild to believe, right? In 2028, we will still be talking about how wild it is? Probably, yeah, to be honest. Kylie Jenner gave birth to her first child at 20 years old, the father is some guy she’d been dating for a couple of weeks before getting knocked up, and it’s literally always going to be a crazy story. But this is just the way things are now, so at some point, we just have to get used to it and carry on. And judging by this new video Kylie shared on her YouTube channel, she’s carrying right on with her classic vain ways. The video is a Q&A with her best friend, Jordyn Woods — they asked for questions on Twitter, picked some out, then discussed them. First, they talked about how they met (through mutual friends in middle school, nothing too thrilling there). Kylie Jenner: My New Body is WEIRD! Then they answered a question about which one takes the longest to get ready (Kylie) and a question about Kylie Cosmetics. But then someone asked Jordyn about her weight loss, and that’s where things got interesting. Jordyn said that at first, she wasn’t intentionally trying to lose weight, but when she did start trying, being consistent was key, as was figuring out a way to enjoy working out. Kylie told her that she motivates her, then revealed that she’d “planned my first workout on Monday” — it sounds like she hasn’t worked out at all since giving birth. “I’m not even doing it to get in shape,” she explained, “even though after Stormi I feel like people think that I like bounced back super fast , which I guess I did.” She said that people “get the wrong idea on Instagram sometimes,” because everything is not totally back to normal with her body. “Especially at such a young age, to see your body go through such a change,” she said, “and it is physically, emotionally and mentally a challenge.” But she added that pregnancy is “also a beautiful thing, and it was such a great pregnancy and birth and I’m so happy and I would have done the same thing over again.” She’s not the greatest at maintaining one train of thought, huh? But she tries, bless her heart. Getting to her original point, she revealed that “my boobs are like three times the size, which bothers me. I have stretch marks on my boobs, my stomach isn’t the same, my waist isn’t the same, my butt’s bigger , my thighs are bigger.” “It’s just a change, and honestly I’m finding like I have to change my style a little because nothing in my closet fits my from before.” “I really want to gain my core back,” she added. “I feel like I have fake abs now, like it’s just genetics, but I want real abs.” “I know I can have a super fit body, but just for my health, I want to do this.” It’s not surprising to hear any of this — we’ve heard rumors for a long time about how insecure her pregnancy had made her . Which, to be fair, is totally normal, especially for someone like Kylie, a young woman who’s built much of her career on being hot. It’s very possible that her body will never go back to the way it was before, even with the help of plastic surgery or Snapchat filters or whatever else. But if working out is going to make her feel better, then more power to her, right? View Slideshow: Kylie Jenner: Her Sexiest Snapshots as the Hottest Mom Ever
