Awards screeners have yet to really start coming in (a few have already been sent out, including Sony Pictures Classics’ Take Shelter , The Guard , and Higher Ground , and Summit’s A Better Life ), but this week’s arrival of Attack the Block DVD screeners is a surprise entry to the season. The Sony/Screen Gems-released sci-fi pic was sent out to members of the L.A. Film Critics Association this week, although it’s unclear how much of a campaign the studio plans, if any. Does the British kid-oriented genre film have a shot at awards season, anyway?

Attention since ‘Drop a Body’ video ‘is crazy,’ Joe tells MTV News. By Steven Roberts Fat Joe Photo: MTV News Fat Joe ‘s video for “Drop a Body” was filled with volcanic eruptions, lightning and a mountain of dead bodies, but when the video dropped in June, Joe’s appearance overshadowed all of that. A considerably slimmer Joe stood atop said mountain, raising eyebrows and the clip’s number YouTube views. Joe said he was just as shocked by people’s reactions to his weight loss, because he was just trying to save his life. “I’m not trying to impress nobody or nothing like that,” Joe told MTV News. “I’m just trying to get healthy so I can be here for my family and take care of my kids and live the life that was intended for me to live, so it was crazy when I started getting all this attention. Two weeks from now, CNN is coming to my house, Sanjay Gupta, a big special, and all this attention is crazy.” Joe said he was 360 pounds when he started losing weight, and after finding himself at much-more-manageable 260 pounds a year later, he still wasn’t satisfied. Initially, he wanted to lose weight because in the past year, several of his friends have lost their lives due to their weight. Joe recalled attending one of his friends’ funerals and seeing himself in that position. He knew then it was time to make a change. “I went to my friend’s funeral in the Bronx, and he was just the funniest, coolest dude on earth,” Joe recalled. “He’s got a daughter, she’s the same age as my daughter, and it just felt like I was there, and I could just see my family in the funeral and I was like, ‘Damn, he left his daughter, and she’s only 5,’ ” he explained. “That was the wake-up call. Then I just jumped on that treadmill and started eating right. It’s not rocket science: It’s the same thing they keep telling you to do, you actually just have to do it.” Joe said he always asked God why he continued to bless him, despite his past and him not being a perfect person. And then he realized his weight-loss battle might be his calling. He hopes that he can inspire others to do the same. “One of my boys lives in Detroit, he said he came out his building, he got two dudes that been the fattest dudes on the block forever, they have weights outside and was running around the block, and he was like, ‘Yo, what’s up?’ and they were like, ‘We on that Fat Joe wave!’ ” Related Artists Fat Joe
Edgar Wright says he’s just completed a third draft of the script for the Marvel movie. By Aubrey Sitterson, with reporting by Josh Horowitz “Ant-Man” director Edgar Wright Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images With “Captain America: The First Avenger” grossing over $65 million on its opening weekend and fans already buzzing about next year’s “Avengers,” Marvel’s quickly expanding cinematic universe is as popular as ever. Now, from San Diego Comic-Con 2011 comes news that Marvel Studios might finally be moving ahead on a long-awaited release: Edgar Wright’s “Ant-Man.” The “Shaun of the Dead” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” director has been talking about taking on Marvel’s smallest superhero since at least 2007, promising a live-action film that would blend humor with action and would include two different Ant-Men: Henry Pym and Scott Lang. In the Marvel Comics source material, both characters make use of a special formula and suit that allows them to shrink, as well as a high-tech helmet that facilitates communication with ants and other insects. “Ant-Man” is said to feature flashbacks of the original hero, Pym, as well as scenes of his successor, Lang, in the present day. Now, after years of infrequent updates and stalled production, things are finally looking up for “Ant-Man.” “Since February, we’ve done two drafts of the script, and we just handed in a third draft on Monday,” Wright told MTV News. The director is co-writing the film with Joe Cornish, whose “Attack the Block” (a British alien-invasion movie starring frequent Wright collaborator Nick Frost and in theaters on July 29) was making waves of its own at Comic-Con. Apparently, some of the hold-up on “Ant-Man” was related to “Attack the Block,” as the duo did not complete a second draft until Cornish was finished with his directorial debut. “The way we wrote the script is for it to be a standalone genre film,” Wright said, perhaps indicating that “Ant-Man” would be less explicitly tied to the “Avengers” family of titles like “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Thor” and “Iron Man.” Wright continued by explaining his desire to “create an ‘in’ for people so you don’t have to know 50 years of ‘Avengers’ history to enjoy the movie.” While most recent superhero adaptations have focused on Marvel and DC’s “big guns,” characters like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman and others, the protagonist of “Ant-Man” will be entirely new to all but the most fervent comic book fans. For Wright and Cornish, however, the freedom that comes with a lesser-known character is a large part of the upcoming project’s appeal. Wright was close-lipped on who he wanted to play the part of the movie’s eponymous hero (or heroes), but he did hint that he had someone in mind. Who would you like to see play Ant-Man? If Rachel doesn’t get her way, she will cry in some shrubbery. Morons locked in a house for weeks at a time will ultimately turn on each other. An unexpected victory in a veto competition can potentially lead to a major game-changer. Each of these Big Brother tenets was proven last night. Who ended up on the block when all was said and done, and which of the two is likely toast? THG breaks down Sunday’s episode in its +/- recap below … For whatever reason, Rachel is livid that this week’s nominees don’t include Cassi. Jordan guesses Rachel is jealous because Cassi is hot. Sounds right. Plus 4 . Jordan doesn’t want to be “two-face” and go after her, though. Minus 1 . Daniele is awesome. By agreeing with Rachel and subtly playing into her nut job crusade, she subtly helps create a huge rift – to her own advantage. Plus 9 . The Golden Key concept is killing the veto competitions. Some people don’t even compete, and those that do often try to tank it strategically. Minus 7 . Dominic lucks out big time when this veto battle becomes an individual effort. Unencumbered by Adam trying to lose, he pulls off a huge upset! Plus 10 . Plus 9 more for his diary room celebration after sticking it to the man. The highlight wasn’t Dominic’s win, however. It was Rachel trying to show up Jordan by taking the slop punishment. Minus 6 for the girl’s sheer idiocy. Finally, some legitimate drama in-fighting! Unable to take it anymore, Jeff just unloads on Rachel his Chicago accent and the veteran alliance is shaken up for the first time. RACHEL THEN HIDES IN A BUSH and weeps. Plus 31 . Despite Brendon’s (relative) level-headedness, Rachel can’t bring herself to apologize with any sincerity, nearly talking her way onto the block! Minus 8 . “No wonder America hates me. *sniff*” – Rachel. Mmm hmm. Plus 5 . Plus 3 more for Jeff likening her to a pesky gnat. So accurate. Even Kalia can’t help but call out her lameness. Hilarious. Plus 2 . Plus 4 for Brendon’s off-hand diss of Lawon while trying to smooth things over with Jordan and Jeff. Lawon has already achieved VINTAGE floater status. Jeff and Jordan seriously contemplate back-dooring Brendon and Rachel (at which point Rachel would be voted out unanimously) … but ultimately decide not to splinter their alliance. Minus 29 for not going through with it. Think about it. The newcomers’ alliance is fragmented, so it’s not as if Jeff and Jordan become immediate targets. The only collateral damage would be pissed-off Brendon … which is considerable. Okay, Plus 7 for playing it safe. Jordan assures Cassi that she would be “the last person” put up for eviction. By last, she means “definitely the person I’m going to put up,” to the disappointment of many (if not all) houseguests and viewers alike. Minus 18 . Unlike last week, which was totally up for grabs, tonight’s eviction looks like a foregone conclusion. Minus 3 . Will ANYONE try to vote off Shelley? EPISODE TOTAL: +9. SEASON TOTAL: +21. Did Jeff and Jordan make the right call on Big Brother? Who should they have put up once Dominic took himself and Adam off the chopping block?
