Defending champs Coheed and Cambria, upset-minded Sum 41 also survive … Elite 8 voting now open on the Newsroom blog. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams Photo: C Flanigan/ FilmMagic We’ve reached the Elite 8 of MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament, and it’s a fitting title, indeed. Because the eight bands left standing in the tournament are most certainly elite, each having survived increasingly tough challenges to stand on the precipice of championship glory. Check out our MMM Bracket right here! And nowhere was that more apparent than in the MMM’s Sweet 16, which saw not only a historic number of votes being cast by fans, but more nail-bitingly close contests than we can ever remember: Fifth-seeded Paramore came from way back to nip #1 Linkin Park; #5 Panic! at the Disco edged heavily-favored (and top-seeded) 30 Seconds to Mars; and, in perhaps the most remarkable matchup in MMM history, defending champs Coheed and Cambria snuck by #7 Avenged Sevenfold thanks to a last-second surge in votes … our first-ever buzzer beater! It was, to say the least, a remarkable round … and we expect nothing less in the Elite 8: One of these bands will hoist the MMM championship trophy next week, and you can help them do it. But you’ve got to hurry — Elite 8 voting is now open on the Newsroom blog, and will continue until Thursday at midnight ET. Elite 8 voting is now under way over on the Newsroom blog! We’ll reveal our Final Four on Friday … but before we get there, let’s take a look at our Elite 8 matchups! Midwest In one of the few drama-free Sweet 16 contests, #9 Disturbed handled #12 Patrick Stump with relative ease, moving David Draiman and Co. on to the Elite 8. The undercard — the now-legendary Coheed/A7X tussle — was anything but: Upset-minded Avenged took an early lead, stretched it to more than 4,000 votes, and then, with victory in sight, got complacent. That allowed Coheed (and their fans) to sneak back into things, slowly closing the gap and, finally, with less than 10 minutes to go in voting, overtaking A7X for good. In the end, in a contest that saw some 60,000 votes cast, Coheed won by less than 300 … a remarkable contest, and more proof that you should never underestimate the heart of a champion. And thanks to those last-second heroics, our Midwest final is now set: #9 Disturbed vs. #6 Coheed and Cambria East We knew heading into the Sweet 16 that the 30 Seconds to Mars/ Panic! at the Disco battle was going to be epic, but even we had no idea just how huge it would end up becoming. Top-seeded 30 STM cruised to an early lead, but then, thanks to some pretty heavy campaigning, #5 Panic! slowly started to chip away, and with less than two hours left in voting, they overtook Leto and his boys for good, winning by nearly 5,000 votes. In the undercard, what was expected to be a barnburner ended up being nothing more than a laugher, as #3 Green Day blasted #2 Blink-182 — despite Mark Hoppus’s efforts to rally the troops. And so, our East final is set: #5 Panic! at the Disco vs. #3 Green Day South A pair of hotly contested Sweet 16 matchups here, as #5 Paramore came roaring back against #1 Linkin Park (behold, the power of Facebook! ), erasing a 3,000-vote deficit in the round’s final hours and ultimately coasting to a 2,000-vote win — a pretty slight edge in a contest that saw more than 150,000 votes cast. In the region’s other battle, the unstoppable Tokio Hotel rolled on, besting a surprisingly game #2 Muse — TH’s 3,000-vote victory is by far their lowest margin to date. And so, we head to the South final, with a matchup that’s sure to deliver on every level: #5 Paramore vs. #14 Tokio Hotel East Sum 41 continue their VCU-like run through the tournament, as they pasted the fourth-seeded Strokes in the Sweet 16. But, like their NCAA counterparts, can Deryck Whibley and Co. advance to the Final Four? Standing in their way are last year’s MMM runners-up, #3 My Chemical Romance, who handled #2 Radiohead with ease. At this point, they could be the sneaky favorites to win the whole thing. But first, they’ve got to get past MMM’s Cinderellas, in what is perhaps the most unlikely East final of all time: #16 Sum 14 vs. #3 My Chemical Romance MTV’s Musical March Madness has reached the Elite 8! Voting is now open and will continue until Thursday at midnight, when we’ll roll on to the Final Four. All winners are determined by your votes, so, if your favorite act is still standing, it’s up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM — but get ready, things only get tougher from here on out! ‘These kids are stars to me,’ Ciara tells MTV News on the clip’s set. By Vaughn Schoonmaker, with reporting by Kara Warner Mindless Behavior Photo: MTV News Mindless Behavior might be made up of four boys in their early teens, but that hasn’t stopped them from grabbing the attention of established stars like Ciara, Lil Twist and Tyga, who are all featured on the remix of their hit debut single “My Girl.” The remix video debuted on BET’s “106 and Park” on Monday (March 28), and MTV was on the set with the young stars a few weeks ago, just days before they kicked off their tour as Janet Jackson’s opening act. ” ‘My Girl’ needs to just branch out,” said Ray Ray, surrounded by his bandmates. ” ‘My Girl’ is the best record ever!” As a follow-up to their video for the original version of the song, the ‘My Girl’ remix video delivers plenty of choreographed dancing, references to the art and etiquette of text messaging, and teenage girls dancing around the miniature heartthrobs. In the video, Ciara dances alongside Mindless Behavior in an industrial-like setting. Lil Twist and Tyga rap in a room full of excited fans while the boys dance along. “A year ago, we were fans of these artists,” Princeton noted. “And now we’re working with them. Just to know that is great.” Ciara jumped at the opportunity to work alongside the boys. “These kids are stars to me, and they asked me to be part of the remix,” she said. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna be a part of this!’ ” Once a teen prodigy herself, Ciara already shared something in common with Mindless Behavior. “I remember when I was young. It’s really just about being a part of something that’s young and fresh and something that I believe in. In this case, they’re young and I want to make sure I fit in that way. I give them the young ‘CiCi’ in me, I guess you could say.” What do you think of the new video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Mindless Behavior
Thousands of fans treated to sight and sound spectacular during trio’s Miami Music Week ‘One Night Stand.’ By Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart Swedish House Mafia Photo: 2010 Denise Truscello MIAMI — Swedish House Mafia attempted — and executed — a spectacle of mammoth proportions on Miami’s South Beach shore on Saturday. With close to 15,000 masked fans checked in and hundreds of others watching and dancing alongside a massive tent, the house music super-group treated their fans to the nine-hour mini-festival that was “Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand.” While the three Swedes were the headliners, their supporting lineup alone was worth marveling over: Junior Sanchez, A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, Max Vangeli, AN21, Dirty South, and Pete Tong (who also emceed the event) were among the big-name performers. But when it came time for Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso to take the stage, it was clear this show would be like no other Miami has seen. The curtain dropped to reveal a massive, 40-foot structure adorned with LED screens, lights, pyro and speakers. And with the trio standing at the center of it all, the crowd exploded. Swedish House Mafia opened with their late-summer 2010 anthem, “Miami 2 Ibiza,” which was followed by “Dynamite,” a new track by Alesso, who was recently signed to Ingrosso’s Refune Record Label. Then followed the stream of new music fans had been eagerly awaiting. SHM dropped a block of fresh tunes, a highlight of which was an off-center, Arabian-style techno monster that the crowd went berserk for, as the guys danced onstage in sync with their fans. Then there was a remix of deadmau5 ‘s “Strobe.” Next was Marco V’s “Reaver” and a mash-up of Angello’s “Show Me Love” and “KNAS,” which kicked the show into overdrive, accompanied by a stunning visual display. ‘I’m so honored, so happy that you gave me the opportunity, God, to know Nate Dogg,’ Snoop eulogized at funeral. By Rahman Dukes Nate Dogg funeral Photo: Rahman Dukes LONG BEACH, California — On a dark and damp Saturday morning (March 26), thousands of family, friends and fans turned out for one last show from their hero, rap legend Nate Dogg , who was laid to rest in his hometown of Long Beach. Inside the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, lights shined down on the wooden coffin adorned with red and white flowers. Two jumbo screens on opposite sides of his casket flashed six different photos of the singer from a childhood boy, when he was known to family as “Buddy,” to the platinum singer known to the world as Nate Dogg. West Coast rap artists including Dr. Dre, Game, DJ Quik, Mack-10 and WC, DJ Pooh, Battlecat and others were on hand to pay their respects to the singer with platinum vocal chords. “1986, Poly High School, that’s where we connected for the first time,” an emotionally distraught Snoop reflected on his friend. “We didn’t know each other, but the music connected us. We built a brotherhood, a friendship.” Snoop first met Nate along with his best friend Warren G at the school where they would go on to form the rap trio 213. Warren G spoke briefly, reminding mourners in attendance what a great man the music world has lost. “It hurts me so much to see this,” Warren G said somberly while looking down at the casket. “We been through a whole lot and that was my dog. He stayed down with me from the bottom to the top. I didn’t ever think I would have to sit at a funeral for one of my dogs. All I can say is that was my friend, me him and Snoop was 213 from the balls to the walls. The music industry lost an incredible artist.” Several of Nate’s closest friends, relatives and colleagues including Xzibit, Daz and Kurupt, Butch Cassidy, Los Angeles radio station personality Big Boy from Power 106, and producer FredWreck all shared memorable stories of their friend, who they said made an important impact on their lives. Xzibit recalled a time during the Up in Smoke Tour when Nate was arrested, but hours later somehow magically appeared at the show’s next date. A teary-eyed Kurupt said Nate was the father figure who raised him. Manager Rod McGrew acted as Nate’s manager throughout his professional music career and was with him up until his last days. “He fought a hard fight,” McGrew said. He also thanked Dr. Dre and Eminem, in addition to Snoop, Warren G and Xzibit, for assisting the family in getting through the past several days. “The last three years were unbelievable. He didn’t give up. He just had a talk with God and gave up. Two hours before that he was fine.” McGrew said that with Nate’s passing, the singer’s three wishes will now be granted. “He wanted to go to heaven and hang with his boys,” McGrew said. “He loved Tupac. He recorded with him. He wanted to hang with Biggie. But the most important thing is that he can walk around heaven with his favorite artist of all time, Michael Jackson.” With his deep, melodic voice and smooth soul rumble, Dogg was one of the key elements in the rise of the West Coast G-Funk sound pioneered by Death Row Records in the early 1990s. Along with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, Nate was a critical participant in a number of major left-coast gangsta hits, including G’s “Regulate” and Dre’s iconic solo debut, 1992’s The Chronic. The hip-hop singer passed away earlier this month after suffering multiple health setbacks in the past several years stemming from separate strokes. The choir that sang during Nate’s home-going was handpicked by the singer himself. One of its members, Jacob Lusk , is currently a contestant on “American Idol.” “He was a loving caring individual,” said Snoop. “If you listen to his music, he took church melodies and flipped it with hip-hop. I’m so honored, so happy that you gave me the opportunity, God, to know Nate Dogg. I want to stand here and cry, but I have to have the strength for you Nate Dogg. It’s 213, DPG for life.” Related Videos Remembering Nate Dogg Related Photos Nate Dogg: A Life In Photos Nate Dogg’s Hometown Wake Related Artists Nate Dogg
Dear Bossip, I’m in a bit of a pickle and I’m, not sure where to go with this situation at all. Me and my boyfriend have been together on and off since our early 20′s…….he’ll be 30 this year and I’ll be 28. Anyway in the last 2 years we’ve been together exclusively and officially and so far everything has been good. We know each other like a book and because we have such a lengthy history and we love each other on a deeper level….friends first. Lately him and his boys have been going out and for whatever reason they always end up at the strip club. At first I didn’t sweat it be cause I know full well that that is something that men do with their boys all the time but I feel like it’s getting out of hand! He goes out at least twice a week to the strip club and he comes home reeking of broads and liquor and at first I didn’t care because he would be highly sexual and please me when he got home but I don’t want strippers to be the source of his arousal with me. I don’t know if I’m being jealous or if I’m legitimate with my worries. Please shed some light! Thank you for your time. Happy Almost there Thursday, sis! Thank you for writing in and sharing your story! So your man is a frequent at the local strips joints, so much so, the strippers may know him by name, huh? Well, you are completely legitimate in your concerns because you don’t want another woman or women to be the reason why he comes home and gives you the good loving. It’s unsettling, to say the lease, that he smells of another woman when he returns home to you and may be so inebriated that he hardly remembers the intimacy you shared the night before! So, your concerns are valid. Here’s the deal about strip clubs, many men go to them on a regular basis to fill a void that they may be missing at home. So, the best thing to do would be to open very candid lines of communication and explore his thoughts and feelings. Find out if he feels like he’s lacking in certain areas of your relationship and what you could do remedy the situation. This would also create the platform for you to speak your mind also and if you’re lacking fulfillment, that would be the time to let him know so the both of you could work on growing your relationship. You should never underestimate the power of communication in your togetherness, without it, you have nothing! But before you open this door of communication though, Ma, wrap your brain around hearing things you may not want to hear and instead of being on the defense, be ready to maintain a solid, solution-driven frame of thought. From what you’ve written, you seem to be content and comfortable in your coupledom aside from your man’s frequent visits to the booty bars. And if you communicate openly, it shouldn’t be a deal breaker! If you don’t want him in the strip clubs more than a 2-3 times a month, let it be known. If you don’t want him there at all, let it be known! Be honest with yourself first and then extend it to your man. But remember to be ready for his honesty even though you may not like what he has to say. He may just like for you to kick up your adventurism in the bedroom a notch or two and didn’t know how to say it but whatever it is, remember, stay in the lane of finding the solution and come to an agreement! Best of luck to you, sis! Best of luck! What are your thoughts, Bossip fam? Please share them below! Please remember to e-mail all topic suggestions, questions and feedback to loveandrelationships@bossip.com !
