‘Twilight’ heartthrob tells MTV News that working with pros like Bill Condon and John Singleton has helped him grow as an actor. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News Taylor Lautner has had quite an impressive career for a 19-year-old. Since “Twilight” came out in 2008, he’s worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and hottest directors and is primed to become the film industry’s next big action star when “Abduction” hits theaters in September. MTV News caught up with the “Breaking Dawn” actor at San Diego Comic-Con , and he talked about getting the opportunity to work with and becoming more comfortable around so much A-list talent. “All the directors in the ‘Twilight’ franchise have been amazing, [and] ending with Bill Condon, who’s just a dream,” Lautner said, “and then John Singleton [on ‘Abduction’]. And then all the actors and actresses I’ve been surrounded by, really, I couldn’t have done it without them, but they have definitely helped me throughout the past few years.” With “Abduction” and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” both wrapped and set for release this fall, Lautner will be busy with press for those films but he also has some free time on his hands. And while the actor doesn’t have any projects lined up right now, he told us he’s looking at some possibilities. “We’re reading a lot [of scripts] right now and we will probably make that decision while I’m promoting,” he explained. “I’m gearing up because in two weeks, I’m off to the races. I start off in Australia and then I’m around the entire world for ‘Abduction,’ and then once again for ‘Breaking Dawn.’ ” Lautner added that he would love to do a comedy after the good feedback he got for his Funny or Die sketch “Field of Dreams 2.” He also teased that something could come of his recent meeting with director Gus Van Sant and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black . But Lautner is really looking forward to spending time with fans, many of whom would visit his “Abduction” set in Pittsburgh. The actor said he was always thankful rather than distracted by their presence. “There’s moments where it could impede the job, but I’m able to stay focused and be in character when I need to and snap right out of it and go over and talk to the fans and be with them for a while and go right back into it, which is great, because I have a lot of fun with them and I love them coming out and hanging with us,” he said. Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz laugh to MTV News about spending way too much time at Whole Foods during ‘Twilight’ downtime. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Photo: MTV News Although the “Twilight” cast has wrapped filming on the franchise’s two-part final chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” their work together is far from over, considering the very last film won’t open in theaters until November 2012 and the young actors have plenty of promotional commitments to fulfill until then. But having spent so much time together, we wondered whether the castmembers ever get sick of one another. When MTV News caught up with Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, we put that question to them. We also asked the two stars if they had thought about how they’ll feel when it’s time to say goodbye to the series. “We’re never sick of each other,” Lutz said. “You do a project for seven months of your life, and you’re really just anxious to get home. I was really excited to see my dogs, [sleep] in my own bed. And then … we’re here at Comic-Con; we’re going to be here next year. We have a lot of press and a lot of opportunities to hang out with the fans, and that’s what I really look forward to,” he admitted. “Playing my role of Emmett — I love doing these movies — but by no way are we saying goodbye. We have a good couple years ahead of us and, you know, it’s just great to work with best friends for so many movies,” Lutz continued. “We see a lot of each other and we’re all blessed to be working outside of ‘Twilight,’ but it’s nice to all come together again.” Discussing how the best friends spend their downtime during filming, Lutz and Greene revealed that they geek out with board games and grocery shopping. ” ‘DanceDance Revolution,’ Lutz said. “Hasbro sent a lot of games to Ashley and I, so we have a lot of game nights, which is fun; cook, [watch] movies.” “Grocery shopping at Whole Foods,” Greene added of another production activity. “Which is terrible because I spend hundreds of dollars there by the time [we finish],” Lutz admitted. “You don’t understand,” Greene laughed, “They knew us by name there and it was the fun thing [to do], like, ‘Wanna go grocery shopping?’ Because then we could cook,” she explained. “Super, super cool.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . At Comic-Con, ‘Twilight’ actor says he and John Singleton studied film. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News SAN DIEGO — Taylor Lautner is ready to abduct the title of Hollywood’s resident action star when “Abduction” hits theaters September 23, but he didn’t get there without a little inspiration from some of the genre’s greatest actors. When MTV caught up with the “Twilight Saga” star at Comic-Con 2011 this week, he revealed that he did more than admire the top action actors: He studied them. Considering “Abduction” is being described along the lines of the “Bourne” movies and “Minority Report,” it makes sense that Tom Cruise and Matt Damon are among Lautner’s biggest role models. “I studied film with John Singleton while preparing for the movie, and I chose Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford; we just went down the list,” Lautner explained. “It would be an honor to have a tenth the career that those guys have.” Having spent so much time watching the movies, Lautner said he sometimes found himself copying their moves during his takes. It took him time to take a step back and figure out how to tailor — or “Taylor” — their concepts to his own acting style. He got a chance to meet Cruise while filming a promo for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, and though their work together wasn’t action-oriented, Lautner said working with the “Mission: Impossible” actor was “surreal.” But was he able to hold it together around his idol? “I definitely played it cool,” Lautner said with a laugh. “It was hard.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Abduction.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Singer tweets that ‘it’s a huge bummer waiting’ but fans can expect new music soon. By Gil Kaufman Kelly Clarkson Photo: Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images By now, Kelly Clarkson fans have gotten used to the hurry-up-and-wait status of her new album. Release dates for singles have come and gone, her frustration about the long release process has flared at times and a slow trickle of never-before-heard songs has leaked online over the past month. But Clarkson gave fans reason to hope on Thursday when she posted a series of tweets that made it sound as if her eagerly anticipated fifth album is getting closer to seeing the light of day. Still, as has frequently been the case with Clarkson lately, it was a mix of good and bad news. “Also, just found out my single is hitting radio in August!” she tweeted Thursday afternoon. “Woohoo! It’s sounds great as well! Can’t wait for y’all to hear it!” Fans were understandably excited about the imminent release of the unnamed tune but an hour later, Clarkson said she may have misspoken a bit. “Okay please do not get angry but it might be September for my single,” she wrote . “My calendar was messed up! I’m so sorry! BUT it might be late August! It’s a huge bummer waiting but I promise it’ll be worth it! Stupid technology!!” Though disappointed, fans told Clarkson it was no biggie, saying it was worth the wait. “If people can wait till Nov. for ‘Breaking Dawn,’ I bet they can wait a few months for your new single,” one fan wrote. The original “American Idol,” who at one point described the new songs as “Garbage-meets-pop-meets-Muse,” has long expressed her desire to go in a more rock direction and she appeared headed that way on the follow-up to 2009’s All I Ever Wanted. ” In October, Clarkson told fans on Twitter that she expected a single out by early 2011, teased a pair of duets with unnamed co-singers and said it might include two songs by her musical director and “Never Again” co-writer Jason Halbert. The album obviously missed its initial late-2010 release date, and by February Clarkson was talking up other influences, such as Prince, Tina Turner, Radiohead, Sheryl Crow and Aretha Franklin , and hitting the studio with producer Rodney Jerkins . In early February she announced, with a bit of consternation, that the ywet-untitled album was finished, but had been pushed back until September . Then, earlier this month, three songs that are reportedly slated for the album leaked, just a week after another new tune, the rocking, “Let Me Down,” surfaced online. The new songs, which were quickly scrubbed from the Internet, included the angsty “Let Me Down,” the ballad “Forgive You” and the pop rocker “Dumb + Dumb = You.” Are you looking forward to Kelly’s next album?
