Mr. Skin’s SXSW Report, Part 1

The South by Southwest film festival gets into full swing in Austin, Texas this week, and Mr. Skin’s got his Skin Skouts on the scene! We’re selflessly screening all the hottest new films for sex and nudity so you’ll know what to see and what to skip when these flicks come around to your local multiplex. The festival still has five more days, but our Skin Skouts have already spotted some quality nudity, mostly from nudecomers….

Today in Irrational Hollywood Horrors: Fear of Charlie Rose

“The first time he went on the show, promoting Step Brothers , he had a panic attack and started to shake visibly. ‘People are, like, “Oh, my God, are you all right? Do you have Parkinson’s?” You think no one will notice and then you read the comments online, and people are genuinely worried, or, worse, they’re making fun of you.'” Best wishes to Adam McKay in swiftly curing his Charlie Rose jitters; Hollywood’s best celebrity therapist seems to help. SXSW: All Hail Wiig! Bridesmaids Proves That Chick Flicks Don’t Have to Suck

SNL superstar Kristen Wiig breezed into Austin midnight Sunday for what director Paul Feig accurately termed “Kristen Wiig Appreciation Night” — a double header of this Friday’s Paul followed by a special work in progress screening of this summer’s Bridesmaids . The May 13 comedy marks Wiig’s first honest-to-goodness starring vehicle, an event in itself, but here’s even better news: Bridesmaids isn’t just the smart and grounded antidote to the shrill chick flicks we all hate; it’s the most raunchy, sweet and wonderfully vulgar R-rated comedy in recent memory. Bring it, Hangover 2 .

SXSW Buzz Report: Pee Paparazzi Goes Viral, Joe Swanberg Inspires Walkouts

SXSW is a fest that caters to alterna-sensibilities, so it’s no surprise genre fare has done well thus far. Insidious scored high marks with the horror crowd, but The Kill List notched all-out raves from even mainstream press — though the Conan O’B rien documentary Conan O’B rien Can’t Stop contains enough rage and demon-exorcising to give both a run for their money. Meanwhile, Bellflower — a Sundance entry in the Emerging Visions sidebar — screens on Monday night, as does the Dance Dance Revolution thriller The FP . Yes, you read that right: a gang warfare film about Dance Dance Revolution. Don’t you wish you were in Austin?

Kristen Wiig on Paul, Her Future at SNL and How Her Mom Doesn’t Like Gilly

Kristen Wiig realizes that not everyone is going to universally love every single character that she creates on Saturday Night Live . It’s not that she spends a lot of time (or any time, for that matter) thinking about what the overall consensus will be, but it’s kind of hard to ignore when her own mother calls to voice disapproval over a new character.

Best. Casts. Ever?

Two comedies are staffing up with some mighty impressive casts. First, we’ve got the Kristen Wiig vehicle known as Bridesmaids , which is adding Jon Hamm, Dianne Wiest and Matt Lucas to a cast that already includes Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, Ellie Kemper, and a raft of other female comics. Then there’s the Steve Martin-Jack Black-Owen Wilson bird-watching comedy The Big Year , which has brought on Rashida Jones, Jim Parsons, Rosamund Pike, Joel McHale, Dianne Wiest (again!) and many more. All this, and no room for Stephen Baldwin ? [ Twitter , Variety ]
