Why Small Moments In Your Life Can Mean The Most

Read the original here:

When I’m thinking about what to write, I often find myself thinking of the small moments in life that tend to make me smile and reflect on the most. I tend to get my best musings when I least expect it, such as during my daily coffee run or while maneuvering down a busy walkway on my way to work. To put the reader in my shoes, you might be waiting in line at your local coffee shop and suddenly feel the hustle and bustle of the morning seemingly slow down as the cashier makes a mistake with the register. That moment of the day might make you stop for a second and begin to realize that the urgency of your surroundings could be internalized stress rather than the actual reality. On a completely different topic, perhaps you’re checking your phone and find yourself smiling from ear to ear due to an unexpected text message. While you feel your day brighten, the other person might not even realize that what they said left you beaming. It’s usually these situations that tend to have the most impact on every day life, despite the fact that they might be quite small in the scheme of events. It truly is the meaning you add to these events that gives them their authenticity and reverence. 5 Ways To Find Inspiration From Within Observing the people around you and enjoying life moment by moment is definitely the better way to be, as you gain perspective from positioning yourself as a moment-maker in the scheme of a big world. Time isn’t infinite and shouldn’t be wasted by letting larger events obscure your view of the smaller, more intimate moments in life. Even just initiating lunch with someone new at work or calling up an old friend can be small gestures that add happiness and fulfillment to your life. If you think of each moment as a movie trailer, the big picture is the product you are generating through the choices you make. By making sure each snippet of your life counts, you have to be present and willing to put yourself out there. This means being aware of the good points of every day and keeping your glass half full, even when you feel like it is empty! Don’t let opportunities pass you by, as taking risks, within reason, is an important part of living your life to its fullest potential. Take pride in each moment, as every second has the ability to change your life! Optimism is a bit part of this, so keep your head facing the future and your eyes open to the details! Selena Gomez ‘Stoked’ To Nab Britney Spears Song

‘It’s awesome,’ the die-hard Brit fan says of getting to record ‘Whiplash’ for her album. By Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News With her album When the Sun Goes Down set to be released on June 28, and her first big-screen movie “Monte Carlo” hitting theaters on July 1, Selena Gomez has been on a whirlwind promotional tour (her recent hospitalization doesn’t seem to have slowed the young starlet one bit). Last week, in the midst of all that, a couple of tracks from her LP hit the Internet, including one co-written by none other than the pop princess herself, Britney Spears. MTV News caught up with the Disney star on Friday and we asked her about “Whiplash,” the uptempo Spears dance tune. Gomez, who is a die-hard Britney fan , said she was excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with one of her idols. “It’s awesome,” Gomez said of the leaked track. “It was an honor and I’m completely stoked.” But when she was initially given “Whiplash,” a track that reportedly failed to make Spears’ Circus album, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress was unaware that Spears had helped to write the song. “I just heard the song; I fell in love with it,” Gomez said. “They gave it to me, the producers who worked on it, and I came and sang and saw that she had co-written it, so I was very excited.” Yet the ties to Spears don’t end there for Gomez. Next month, she hits the road for her first headlining summer tour, and she’ll pay homage to the Femme Fatale. “We are working on a few cover songs. We are working on a Britney tribute ,” Gomez told MTV News earlier this year. “I wanna do a mash-up of all her songs and just go for it ‘ … Baby One More Time,’ and then I think we’re going to try to incorporate ‘Toxic’ and that phase. And then we might do some of her recent, new stuff.” Related Artists Selena Gomez Britney Spears

Katy Perry Satisfies New York Fans’ Sweet Tooth

Pop star matches theatrics with strong vocal performance for the Nassau Coliseum stop of her California Dreams Tour. By John Mitchell Katy Perry performs in Uniondale, New York on Friday Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage UNIONDALE, New York — Teenage girls and the parents who support them turned out in droves for Katy Perry ‘s California Dreams Tour at the Nassau Coliseum on Friday night. There were plenty of “sexy boys” there too (more on them in a minute). Indeed, the pop star proved just how well she knows her audience when she asked the packed arena if there were any graduates in the house. As she listed off the possibilities (high school, college, etc.) she marveled, “We have more junior high graduates than college graduates. That’s crazy!” Following a “Wizard of Oz”-meets-Candy Land video intro, which mirrored the set design of the stage, Perry got the party started with a surefire crowd-pleaser, “Teenage Dream,” while wearing a dress that came complete with spinning pinwheels. “Welcome to the California Dreams Tour, where everything is so sweet,” she cooed to the legions of screaming fans hanging on her every word. And there were plenty of words for them to latch onto: The singer stopped to talk to the audience at length many times during her near two-hour set. But that was just one of the many charms Perry had in store. From a running gag about the woozy effects of a strange brownie she nibbled on before launching into a robust take on “Peacock” to her admission that when she is feeling low she turns to YouTube for “mama cat hugging baby cat” videos, Perry was all charm and nonstop energy. The show stuck so impressively to its storyline about Perry’s travels through Candy Land in pursuit of “the baker’s boy” that it could almost be a jukebox Broadway musical in the vein of “Rock of Ages” or “Mama Mia.” A human slot machine, an Elvis impersonator and headdress-wearing showgirls joined her onstage for “Waking Up in Vegas.” She floated across the arena on a pink cotton-candy cloud while strumming a bedazzled guitar to “Thinking of You.” But despite the theatrics, Perry was still at her best when playing with the audience. At one point she sought out the “sexy boys” in the arena, and when she found a volunteer that struck her fancy, she called him to the stage — but not before making a diva demand: “If you come on stage, you leave that T-shirt right there.” He did as she asked, and after giving her audience a few minutes to ogle the strapping young man (and not just the screaming girls; more than once, Perry gave her gay male fans a shout-out too), she rewarded him with a kiss on the cheek. When he requested more, she joked, “My husband [Russell Brand] just told me in my ear he’s gonna come out here and kick your ass.” She then launched into a slowed-down, jazzy take on “I Kissed a Girl” that quickly shifted into the party jam we all know and love. Unlike many of her dance-pop contemporaries (think Lady Gaga or Britney Spears), Perry left most of the dancing to her talented backup troupe, who were introduced individually during solos to popular candy-related songs like “Tootsie Roll” and “How Many Licks,” while she prowled the stage. But her lack of heavy choreography might have been in the best interest of the show’s biggest surprise: her voice. She sounded fantastic from start to finish. Not even the green, pink and purple laser show that accompanied “E.T.” could obscure that fact that she sounds better than ever. Her vocals were again showcased when she stripped down the pop bombast for a fun medley of covers — “The playlist for my life right now.” So what is Perry listening to? “Only Girl in the World” by “My girl Ri-Ri”; “Big Pimpin’ ” by Jay-Z, during which she played a jewel-encrusted recorder; “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith and, since it was the final day of the work week, Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” The audience ate it up. Terrific show-opener Robyn , who had Perry’s fans mimicking her freestyle dance moves despite the thankless task of opening for one of pop’s biggest names, set the tone for the concert’s final act, a dance-heavy medley of Perry’s biggest hits (and one fantastic cover). The songstress put on her signature blue wig to rile up the audience with the one-two punch of “Hot n Cold” and a take on Whitney Houston’s classic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).” During “Dance,” Perry pulled no less than 20 fans onstage for an impromptu dance party. Before the final two fans would leave the stage, they asked for a picture and the pop star obliged, saying, “New Facebook picture!” She encored with “California Gurls,” but the show’s banner moment came at its official end with “Firework.” With every person in the arena on their feet, Perry said, “I wrote this song for anyone who ever needed a song. To help them, to lift them up.” And then she did exactly that. The Coliseum shook as the near-capacity crowd sang the ubiquitous hit along with her as pyro lit up the stage, raining down like a wall of sparklers. It was colorful, triumphant and the perfect way to end a near-perfect pop show. Have you been to a Katy Perry show recently? Share your experiences in the comments below. Britney Spears’ ‘I Wanna Go’ Premieres Next Wednesday

Chris Marrs Piliero-directed clip will meet deadline for 2011 VMA consideration. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images Britney Spears is ready to unleash her “I Wanna Go” music video. The Chris Marrs Piliero-directed clip will hit the Web on Wednesday at 6 a.m. ET. This is the third single off Spears’ Femme Fatale, following up “Hold It Against Me” and “Till the World Ends.” This date is particularly important as it means that Spears just makes the June 24 deadline for the video to qualify for a 2011 Video Music Award. The video was shot late last month in the Los Angeles area. Little else is known about the actual concept for the clip, but given the song’s lyrical content, it seems that dancing will be featured. Piliero recently worked with Ke$ha on her cheeky “Blow” video. He’s also worked with indie acts like the Black Keys and pop rockers like Yellowcard. On Thursday, he gave fans an update on the video via Twitter . “Hey Brit fans … whenever I get deep into a project, I tend to not do much tweeting, so let’s do a quick catch up … finished editing the ‘I Wanna Go’ music video … love it … met up with @britneyspears … we watched it together … she loved it …,” he wrote. “Stoked …” Produced by Max Martin and Shellback, “I Wanna Go” is a funky dance track about going out, letting loose and having a great time, regardless of the consequences. On the song, Spears coos, “Lately I’ve been stuck imaginin’/ What I wanna do and what I really think, time to blow out/ Be a little inappropriate ’cause I know that everybody’s/ Thinkin’ it when the lights out/ Shame on me/ To need release/ Un-uncontrollably.” Related Videos Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale Related Artists Britney Spears

Britney Spears’ Tour ‘A Real Buzz’ For Openers Nervo

‘The nerves are gone now, and I just want to own it more,’ Nervo’s Liv tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Jeremy Cowart/ WireImage The Femme Fatale Tour kicked off Thursday night to rave reviews, with critics giving Britney Spears props for her over-the-top stage show. The show is all about the ladies, thanks to opening slots from Nervo , Jessie and the Boy Toys, as well as Nicki Minaj, with Spears acting as the show’s head mistress. MTV News caught up with Liv from the DJ act Nervo on Friday (June 17), nearly 24 hours after their first warm-up gig for Ms. Spears. “I’ve got to say, it was a real buzz for us to open the show; that’s the selfish highlight,” she told MTV News. “We were honored to be there. I thought the crowd got our house music.” Liv had the pleasure of finally seeing Spears in concert for the first time and couldn’t help but rave about her. “I thought she was brilliant. It was my first time seeing Nicki, as well, and she was brilliant,” she said. “I love ‘Slave 4 U.’ I was really happy she was playing her oldies.” When fans first heard that Spears and Minaj would be touring together, no one knew how the two would mesh. But, as it turns out, Liv said they work just perfectly. “They’re both very strong women. Britney was the same old Britney we love,” she said. “They complemented each other.” In fact, there’s a real sense of camaraderie on the road. “The nerves are gone now, and I just want to own it more,” she said. “It really does [feel like girl power]. It’s very exciting. We’re all girls. This business is crazy, and it’s fun we can all be in it together. “It really is a machine. We’ve done RV tours before with club DJs, and this is so far and beyond from the RV tours,” she said. “The catering is insane; three-course meals, three times a day. I’ve never seen what it takes to be a part of one of these pop shows, and it takes so much work. It’s full on. It’s great. It’s amazing that she can take it all in stride all these years later.” Will you be checking out Britney’s latest tour? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Britney Spears

Britney Spears Kicks Off ‘Flashiest’ Tour Yet

The Femme Fatale launched her tour in Sacramento, California, and is getting raves from music critics. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Max Morse/Getty Images On Thursday night, Britney Spears declared herself a Femme Fatale, launching her tour in Sacramento, California. Having already garnered praise from critics who attended her dress rehearsal , Spears got more rave reviews from music journalists who attended the kick-off show. In addition to the glitzy costumes and high production value, Spears flaunted her stage chops, sashaying to songs like “Hold It Against Me” and “Big Fat Bass,” as well as old-school jams like “Toxic” and “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know.” Describing it as “her flashiest, fastest moving, and most entertaining production yet,” Rollingstone.com said that while tour-opener Nicki Minaj brought her signature sass, “The night belonged to Britney: She managed to prove that she’s still progressing as a showgirl. Not only that, she’s doing it better than even die-hard defenders would’ve predicted.” The Sacramento Bee explained that while “Spears performed like a pro throughout the show, hitting all her marks, she had shown hesitancy in her movements — natural for the first stop on a tour. But that hesitancy vanished when she put on the denim. She seemed at ease.” The best review of all may have come from Spears herself, who enthusiastically took to Twitter to thank her fans: “Can’t sleep. WAY too much Adrenaline right now. Sacramento was on fire tonight. You ready San Jose? Cause I am!!!!” Once she wraps her San Jos
