Daniel Radcliffe Talks ‘Harry Potter,’ Gay Rights In Out

Actor says he’s been ‘running around chasing girls’ but speaks out against homophobia. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Radcliffe on the cover of Out Photo: Here Media Inc. Earlier this year, MTV News witnessed firsthand Daniel Radcliffe’s commitment to gay rights, when we hung out while the “Harry Potter” star taped a public service announcement for the Trevor Project, an LGBT support group. That dedication to working for the issue was not a one-time thing, as Radcliffe makes clear in a cover story in the new issue Out magazine. The 21-year-old was interviewed by transgendered musician Our Lady J. — an artist whose friendship with the actor raised eyebrows in the tabloids last year — and their talk ranged from gay rights to Broadway to movies to Radcliffe’s dating life. “I was in a relationship with somebody for just about three years, and we broke up just shortly before we hit that mark,” he said. “But [the breakup] was very amicable. At the moment, I’m just being single and running around chasing girls. I’m not getting too many responses, but, yes, I’m having a go.” When it comes to other people’s love lives, Radcliffe is hoping the rest of the world soon adopts a more inclusive philosophy. He realizes, though, that acceptance of differing sexualities is going to take time. “I think that with every generation, people become more open to those ideas and more aware and more educated,” he said. “But it’s a really, really slow process. If you take any family with parents who are bringing their kids up in a narrow-minded way that includes homophobia, it will take a very profound moment of realization to change those deep-seated views.” Out conducted the interview shortly after the final “Harry Potter” film wrapped production, and Radcliffe confessed that he kept a few souvenirs from the set. “I’ve got two pairs [of glasses] from the seventh film and the pair I wore in the very, very first movie — which are really tiny on my head now!” he said. As he leaves Hogwarts behind, the actor is gearing up to head to New York, where he’ll perform on Broadway in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” “I love the city as a whole, absolutely, but I love Broadway,” he said. “[T]he community is amazing, and if you get involved with all those events, and you show how much you love and appreciate being there, you really get nothing but generosity and kindness back.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Drake ‘Good Morning America’ Concert Falls Through

Cast of Broadway’s ‘American Idiot’ will perform July 16 instead. By Mawuse Ziegbe Drake Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Another Drake show in New York has been nixed before the rapper even got a chance to take the stage. Drizzy was in talks to play a free outdoor show July 16 as part of ABC’s “Good Morning America” summer concert series. However, the Drake show has been squashed and the cast of Broadway’s “American Idiot” will fill the upcoming slot instead. A spokesperson for ABC confirmed that a potential Drake show was in the works. “We were interested in having Drake perform, but he was never officially booked,” an ABC rep told MTV News. In addition, a spokesperson for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation told MTV News that concert organizers had simply decided to go with another act. “There was an open date on the calendar for July 16, but they decided to feature the cast of the Broadway show ‘American Idiot,’ ” a rep said. A rep for Drizzy also told the New York Daily News that there was a “booking in place” but did not offer any additional details. Reports have surfaced indicating that safety might have been a factor in passing on Drizzy for a “GMA” appearance. According to the Daily News, the New York City Police Department pulled the plug on the planned show after the city’s parks department failed to provide the security that the NYPD deemed necessary for such an event. The parks department spokesperson did not confirm whether security issues were a factor in not moving forward with the Drake show. The news comes in the wake of a Drake concert in NYC that was canceled June 15 when thousands of fans unexpectedly showed up. Drizzy was expected to perform a free show at New York’s South Street Seaport (pop group Hanson were also on the bill ), but the NYPD put the kibosh on the concert after roughly 10,000 fans swarmed the event. Days later, Jay-Z also ran into issues mounting a concert on top of the marquee of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on the “Late Show With David Letterman.” City officials axed the surprise concert once fans got wind of the show beforehand. However, Jigga — joined by Eminem — ultimately finagled an outdoor appearance and performed on the building’s roof . The MCs didn’t need a permit to rock out on the roof since it is private property. Are you bummed that Drake won’t be on “Good Morning America”? Let us know in the comments.
